- I've spent the last few weeks putting the biggest tool brands in Australia Head to Head with each other, to find out which brand makes the best power tool.
In this video I am testing Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, AEG, Hikoki and Bosch to see which brand is the best value for money.
This video is a continuation on my unboxing video, in that first video we had a look at what tools we got, and the value of each kit.
In this video we put those tools to work.

Hikoki = Metabo HPT (Lowes & Amazon)
AEG = Rigid (Home Depot)
Don’t confuse the Americans mate…they don’t know where Hawai’i is let alone changing names on tools. Anyway the Yanks would be pissed because the handyman tool brand Milwaukee didn’t win !!!!
Weird we have Metabo as another battery tool system in Australia besides Hikoki (which was previously sold as hitatchi here)
@@danielp3345 I guess that Metabo and Metabo HPT are different brands which just owned by the same group. Metabo is German based company while Metabo HPT ( Hitachi Power Tools) is Hikoki.

@@danielp3345 they used to be called hitachi here as well! Prior to hitachi selling off their “Koki” tool division they purchased the German tool company Metabo. They actually rebanded to Metabo HPT (“Hitachi Power Tools”).
What’s great is an American company actually owns Hikoki, so they’re Japanese tools owned by an American company sold under a German name in the United States 🙃😂.
The actual German Metabo is sold here as well and the two system are not compatible so it’s quiet confusing.

I want to make a disclaimer that with a lot of these tests, there are multiple variables that could influence the results. If I was to repeat all these tests, there could be slightly difference results.
I also want to correct what I said at the begging of the video.
I didn’t buy the 10 piece AEG kit, that was gifted to me by AEG for a previous video I made.

my theory about the grinders on the threaded rod being easy after the first cut may be because the rod is hotter and therefore cuts easier, just food for thought.
Is it just me or Dewalt wasn't actually second to last in the grinder test? Bosch and AEG had worse times, somehow AEG getting 3 points and Dewalt 2. It doesn't change a lot, pretty much Dewalt is equal to the Milwaukee. Also those kits kinda represent what you can get from each brand but at the same time it's not really apples to apples comparasion, many brands throw mixed staff into those kits so in many instances you can get better in each brand. For example I belive that was 3rd or 4th milwaukee (doesn't matter both are great, 4th gen have slight edge) which are their top dogs and I'm not so sure with other brands.
You could retest them with the companies, best battery tech..
I feel like you should have done more research and searched for different sets of each brand because you lined up a compact dewalt against everyone elses regular sizes impact plus the m18 fuel. Then you compared 2 different reciprocal saws then the rest when both Milwaukee and dewalt make the normal versions as well.
Love my Hikoki tools hardly anyone has them so it’s always good at pack up time.

Hikoki is pretty underrated compared to the bigger brands. They lack in how many tools you can get outside of Japan. My cousin liked my hikoki tools but he preferred the range offerings of Milwaukee the best so went with them instead. I know hikoki are trying to bring more tool variety to country’s outside of Japan but they have to get past the huge monopoly the big 3 have (Milwaukee, makita & dewalt).

Agree. Hikoki is underrated. They are one one the big brand in Japan, just become it not popular out side Japan, doesn't mean they ain't good.

I understand alot of people prefer Impactdrivers for screws cause you don't have to worry about kickback as much. However, since you mentioned previously you don't use the extra handles on the regular drills at all, those drills will ram in the screws you used for your impact driver test way faster. They will also be able to efficiently bash in screws that are much much longer. Unless you want to watch an episode of your favourite show waiting for your impact to fasten a 8x400 or similiar screw ;). But driving those in without an extra handle is not sth. your wrists enjoy, so that's why you have em on higher powered drills that are meant for that type of work.
I think Makita is the best brand today because the Japanese can be counted on not to cheapen their tools to save money like the other brands. However, they’re all pretty good. I have the green, red, and yellow tools. I also have some of the bright lime green tools.
Spot on, I will not buy any more Chinese landfill. DeWalt
are moving to assembly in US and Mexico. Let's hope that the others follow suit, especially Metabo bringing manufacture back to Germany
Aeg seems good value these days, I remember them being garbage. Awesome video mate was very excited for it!
I'm glad to see another hikoki fan on UA-cam. Especially another Aussie, I've been with the brand ever since they released the new 36v range, and honestly, they get the job done just as easily as anyone else, and for the price point of the tools, they are a solid option compared to the other big name brands. Good on ya mate, would love to see more videos in future
For anyone that doesnt know hikoki is the rebrand of Hitachi. They make fantastic tools, worth looking out for in pawn shops and the like. Have a 9 inch circular saw that survived a shed blaze and still runs a treat after 30+ years in service. Same goes for the old Japanese made makita tools.
Good test and people are missing the point. You purchased and tested the comparable package deals against one another. That’s how most of us get into a product line. I own every product line you tested and have favorite tools spread across all of the manufactures. You did a great job showing people what the quality you can get for a specific amount of money as well as the deals and incentives offered by tool manufactures when you purchase kits. Thanks for the effort. Now a subscriber.

As a Bosch man myself, I feel the need to comment that the kit seems dated, with a brushed a circ saw and recip saw, and an older type of batteries.
(not a critique of you, just saying Bosch is SLOW with rolling out kits and new tools). Keep up the good work, loving the content!
Told you lads Hikoki was weapon! Doesn’t stop at just these tools either they smash with all their gear bar the first gen multi tool it’s not the best and loud as heck but does still go alright, I haven’t tried out their second gen multi yet.

The battery test between all brand tools was the eye opener for me milwaukee 5amp being the most expensive 5amp of the rest was by far the worst and comparing it to AEG one which was so much better being owned by the same company and costs less was a shock
Hy awesome test! Fiy Bosch has new pro-core batteries, they last longer and have more output. It is made to perform well with the brushless tools. Would have changed the whole testing and they might outperformed some other tools. I don’t really know why Bosch tool are sold with the old batteries in Australia. In Germany they only come with the new pro core batteries. If you are up for it you could get one of them and try some of the tools again. I am sure that the saw will perform much better
all the tool brands have come out with new batteries utilising the tablets battery cell technology. for example Milwaukee's forge batteries and dewalt power stack
Love my Bosch gear with the pro core batteries. They honestly feel like they have double the torque
My makita and Bosch tools have been going for about 15 years with no issues. Only recently had to have my Bosch sds plus machine serviced which should give it another 5-10 years.

I got rid of a lot of my Milwaukee m18 tools for metabo HPT (Hikoki). I hated the ergnomics and feel of the Milwaukee stuff, and the Hikoki stuff is such a better value, and has much better ergonomics in general. Raw power isn't everything.
What impressed me the most was the display set up in the background just using a couple of ladders. 👍🤘🏻also you know what else impressed me … you had the sun come out in Victoria 😂 …… FM …
When you cut the metal rod, your first cut is harder than your second and subsequent cuts become the first cut the metal temperature is at is coldest state hence it is harder to cut, the subsequent cut the metal has been heated by the previous cut hence the metal is solfter compare to the first cut.

Triple hammer has always been the impact king for real work settings
Its worth noting that the Bosch Impactor in this test is not really intended to compete with the others. the GDX is more of multitool, the one that should have been used is the GDR. Also since the GDX does not have any speed or power adjustement it means its the lowest power version.

How can you compare the single hand skin recip saw to the 2 hand use saws. No wonder Milwaukee and Dewalt lost that

The comparison is based on a similar sized kit each brand has provided for around the same price point, not the exact same tools are in each kit
He's just using what came in the kits, I agree the larger size milwaukee recip saw dominates makita at least, having used both extensivley
I guess a take away is maybe don't buy a kit?
@@PilgrimStanding kits can be great value but it’s important to work out what you are after. Most of these brands have many different kits available.
The first cut takes more because of the disc that is new, when it consumes a bit, it cuts better and faster

I always wonder why the Beachmark of a tool Brand is how Quick it does something… there is never taken into context ( how long does the tool last, Service, and build durability) as a professionel i dont care if there is a few difrent seconds on how fast they screw a screw in… i would rather have a tool there last and is dependeble… Personaly i found that with the bosch Professionel line.. but awsome video serie mate.

I get that the test is supposed to be fair in that you use the same value from each brand but the bottom of the range makita gear isnt great. I have a TD173 from Japan, Makita's top tier stuff is fantastic.

he used what came in the combos. Milwaukees full size reciprocating saw was substituted for the cheaper single hand one as well and I believe bosch offers better drills
That is some SERIOUS work you done there, and love the detail on the handling on the tracksaws. Its kinda nice but same time annoying to see there is no 'one that rules em all', they each have their pro and cons, their ups and downs, specialy the tracksaw seems to be very focused on what type to actualy doing. Im still at the 18VAlliance Bosch tools, initialy i though of just upgrading into the Profession (aka blue), but seeing all those adapters now for several batteries, i serious love the black color of AEG.

Thanks for the video! As a Milwaukee man I have to say though the impacts have so much power they're useless at doing fine jobs like nipping in screws to gyprock and even villaboard. If you try to put a kitchen together its nearly impossible to use it. Plus it has so much power for normal screws if it hits a knot it'll break the tip without hesitation. For that reason still have a faithful old Makita that's great at the fine jobs 👍 great test though thanks
Agree entirely, I use a 12v bosch professional for light jobs, my 18v milwaukee fuel will tear a screw straight through a 4 by 2 which is great for stud work
with the grinder second cut is easier because you have rubbed off the logo sticker, the sticker slows it down
Should have used a screw tip auger bit for the drill test so tis up to the power of the drill to pull the bit through.

Great video mate. I got 18v hikoki when I started my apprenticeship two years ago and still going strong while workmates have had multiple Milwaukee tools fail and be replaced repeatedly. I was super keen on the AEG limited edition but you have given me something to think about now 😂 keep up the great work
The reason is the heat is annealing the metal slightly for the grinder test
For someone who seems to enjoy bashing on hikoki, you must've felt a little humbled seeing the final results!
I’ve found I can get amazing deals with Hikoki from Mitre 10 here in NZ. I scored a 36V 5” grinder for $100 with container, was the display model. Then a few months later I picked up a pack with the skillsaw, drill, impact driver (all 36v also), the same grinder I already had, 2x batteries and charger for $800, was $1000 off.
Can’t really be beaten. I’ve used the grinder every day at my stainless sheetie job for nearly 2 years now and it goes hard.

When you tighten your chucks, tighten it up and give it half a click back to lock it in place. Try it anyway.
It was proven many times as a myth. Even the manufacturers of those chucks said they have no such feature.
one thing we've noticed at home is that Miwakee is better brand new and not good for long but Makita stay good for ages
Think milwaukee really push the limits of there tools for more power and twork

Reminder to turn your Chuck adjuster back slightly on the drills to lock the bits in place sir. Excellent video by the way
When you use angle grinder on the metal it will heat the metal up. Hot metal is softer than cold, I'm not sure thats the actual reason but maybe something to consider.

They make new tools for both battery lines.
As far as I can tell Makita is still marketing LXT tools and handily outselling XGT and their eye watering prices

Great video! Just need to say my two cents. I get that it was all in combo kits, but they are a bit missleading, with the milwaukee and Dewalt recip saws, seeing as they only had the tigersaw, not the bayonett saw. Also the Dewalt dcf850 is in the atomic line, while most the other impacts were top line.
Also looked like dewalt had the atomic drill, and not the topline.

How do you think it’s fair that you tested the DeWalt and the Milwaukee mini saw saw I guess the regular 18 V
Makita feels the best to use for me personally, I'm not a builder though & I understand mill. Is definitely more power. Makita stuff Isnt about raw power, it's smooth , quality, & becomes a part o f you while some of the other brands just get it done. Makita also contains tech to keep motors from over working & burning out.. I thought my sub compact burnt out while hanging some drywall on some old growth wood in a home built in the 50's.. it turned out it just shut down because driving 3 " screws for shiming the joists ( joists warped) was too much for the motor. I appreciate this tech because I can run out & grab a cheaper model impact to do this raw power work & save my sub compact for more precision dialing in screws with high control
That's what I reckon and chose makita for more finesse work and likely reliability
Great video. Super effort testing all of those tools and quite fair testing really. Many of those tools would benefit from higher capacity batteries and there are better tools from each company but it was fair as you tested the kits as they came for the most.
I did notice you used the weenie dewalt drill with the spade bit

You used a longer impact bit then all the others for the hikoki test which gives it less torque than the others… mate seems like this video is heavily biased and you should be adding a disclaimer at the start of it saying you are sponsored by AEG
Since you never mention exact models of the tools, how do I know if you are not comparing top of the shelf tool from brand A vs entry level tool of brand B?

The triple hammer is designed for speed not for high torque impact ..... It would have done slower in the test
He’s just using what the manufacturers put in their $1999 ish kits. His previous video shows this when he unboxes the tools (except the makita saw - which wasn’t supplied in the kit)
Well, Hikoki had the advantage of being the only 36V lineup and it shows as it came on top. Not sure what ypur complain is if this is what MFRs chose to put in their large tool kits. Bosch could've also offered a BiTurbo kit but there is none in his market (or not for the same price)
I found AEG BSB 18BL LI-602C , but it looks different than your AEG , is it just a new look?
Grease in the grinder head warming uo affects the first cut, I believe the battery warming up may also be a factor

Can't believe you didn't go in orbital mode on the hikoki. You switched to it on the Bosch. And also having the blade the normal way on saws with orbital mode. I know for a fact you would have shaved off a ton of time if you did that.
Yea i thought that was crazy too. that saw in particular is flippin impressive. every time i hand it to someone they're always in awe of how much power that thing has. will absolutely chew through stuff like it's butter.
I was so proud of using my whole set of Makita tools, but now I have some doubts about them.
They last forever and never break, best ergo. gen4 m18 impact should be recalled. You dont need all this new tech.

These kits don't always have the top of the line of each tool brand. I don't use makita, but that could be the case here.
I know everyone has their favorites on tool brands but in my opinion DeWalt and Milwaukee are the kings of tools. I personally prefer DeWalt that’s just because that’s the brand I’ve grown up with until recently granted I’m about to turn 15. You guys should let me know what brand you prefer and why I’m curious
Rarely use an impact driver to screw off bugles, find a drill on low speed gets a better bite, especially when doing new purlins to old pergola frames (especially oregon) I guess it would be to save your wrists, remember almost snapping mine off with the corded drills doing purlins back in the day.
Would be really interesting if you could redo the exact same test with the new pouch lithium batteries and see how they compare 🙏😉
I'm not a fan of any of them but you should learn how to make fair comparison from channels like "Project Farm", TTC and "Tools Tested"

How does one define "best"? Fastest? Strongest? Best value? Best support/availability? Longest lasting? I favor tools that i can use well and accurately.

Another person that doesnt know how to use a reciprocating saw looked like couple of those are orbital and cant city fast backwards.

Orbital ones are streets ahead of normal ones.

Circular saws will stall if you don't cut straight, and you were cutting boomerangs. You could have used a straight edge guide

Nice job mate. No premium tools hilti festool ? Have been long time user of hilti tools and love them but I have my eye on the new festool drill set looks pretty impressive
Hilti and Festool are a waste of money, rather like snap on. They charge a fortune for mediocre tools and use the money for clever marketing. Hilti have a very good warranty as do snap on but you pay for it!
I’ve had major issues with bosch chucks in drills
For your bosch impact driver, mind definitely came with a variable speed. Not faster than Milwaukee but on par with Dewalt.
Maybe try a bigger Bosch battery, because the drill and co only have the max power on 4.5 amp batterys
Excellent video! Obviously you know that all the brands have different models for each tool in different price and power categories, just wanted to point it out. A prime example is the dewalt drill being a compact cheap model, whereas the milwaukee is their top of the line that comes with a side handle.
When you tighten the chuck, take it back one click.. that’ll lock In the drill bit. Appreciate the time you’ve put in to make this video.
Big ol' myth, been around forever. Rohm and Jacobs both say this is NOT a feature of theirs or any chucks on the commercial power tool market. turning it back begins to disengage the ratchet.
