Your shorts match the train seat fabric. :)
Haha, could fit right in! Shouldn't be wearing them in winter, but they are comfortable!
Glad some of the outer circle remained open. It's a great little stretch of track there and awesome for cycling too. Good job as always Train Man. Love your work!
Thanks very much! So many great bike tracks surrounding the line, I use many of them weekly, well before lock downs. Thanks again!
Oh you mean the Anniversary Trail. Who has biked the entirety of the trail?
Chadstone shopping centre would be happy if the line still went to Oakleigh. Melbourne’s transport system would be better if the inner & outer circles still existed. Thanks for the great videos.
Well done again young fella, great research on Hartwell being the old Walhalla Station
Thanks Mark, I forgot to put a photo of the building at Walhalla unfortunately, never the less great to hear you enjoyed!
It is a quiet and pretty line, isn't it? Loving your work, bloke!
Agreed! It is so peaceful, apart from the cheeky gardener on the mower!
Very Good Most Interesting You Know Your History Of The Stations And Of The Alamein Line Itself!😀🚇🛤️
Bro your videos are all unreal so much detail and enthusiasm. Love it
Love this video-I grew up in Ashburton so travelled from Alamein, Ashburton and also on the Glen Waverley lines-have travelled in red rattlers, the blue trains and fancy silver trains !
Yay! I've Been Waiting for This For Such A Long Time. And You didn't Dissapoint! Awesome Video!
Glad you're wait was worth it, happy to hear you enjoyed :)
Awesome video, can't wait to see the Belgrave and Lilydale line video!!!. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Tahlia, those videos will be coming in the next couple of weeks, hopefully you like them :)
Thank you for the effort you put into your presentations. Very interesting and you help bring history alive!
always enjoy your videos... i'm learning more and more about Melbourne trains :)
That's the goal with my videos, to teach people. It's awesome to see you are learning something from the videos Stephen, thanks for the support!
Great to see this one Max as the Alamein line is one that I've never been on! The sun always seems to shine on your video days, even in mid winter! Just proves how much better your weather is than here in the UK!
I seem to get very lucky when I film my videos, I have only been caught out in the rain once for filming, on the Lilydale Line.
The Alamein Line is certainly the quietest and least talked about, but it is very pretty because of this, I love it a lot :)
Hopefully I can get some more videos out for you to enjoy as you go through your Winter, and more Lockdowns :( Thanks Barney!
Short & Sweet. Great video! :)
Thank you Sam, glad you enjoyed :)
love your vids man! keep it up 🥰
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed 😊
Just to add more information on your presentation, which I enjoyed. The down side platform buildings at Burwood are not oroginal. When the line was being duplicated in the late 50's requiring that a new structure be provide4d for the Up side, the builders, using the former Down side building as a works storage building for tools and the likes, left something on one night that caused the buildings to catch fire which totally destroyed them. The VR in their habit of re-using things, replaced the buildings with dis-used structures from Baylea & Catani from the former Strezleki line. The current station building on the Down platform a Burwood is a combination of these 2 buldings, now joined by a verandah.
As for Hartwell, The safeworking arrangements there, was the first attemptnat automatic point operation bt the VR. It consisted of a set of CCW points operated weighted points and a rotary detector, with just a single home arrival signal in eaxh direction. Very simple but effective, and quite a brilliant design.
I have had many a run on the Alamein line as a Fireman & Driver on steam, diesel electric & suburban trains. If you find this of interest and want more information regarding anything, just drop me a line C/o the Yea, Post Office.
Good vid 👍 that jump transition was smooth btw
Glad you loving the cheeky transition😯
thanks buddy I lived on that line for over 40 years my street was Ambon street just up the hill about 100 meters from Alamein station i came ther in 1949 i do miss this line a lot great memories mate cheers
heres another memory for you passing through to Riversdale you had to cross the tram lines a pretty rough crossing at that the train had to go slow because the carrages used to bounce up and down you had to hang on . the same happened with those rattly old series 25 trams crossing the rail line i used to stand on Riversdale station and watch the fun..i got to know the guy who worked on the level crossing . sometimes he was asleep and you could hear the train whistle blareing outside the box . he would run out and move the gates thought you would like this cheers buddy
This line has a lot of great facts and secrets, thanks!
Just watched it again, got side tracked before, great video mate as usual.
Thanks again John, great to hear you watched it twice haha!
Love your work as well, as always. Concise and to the point. Another great production.Yes lot's of secrets, but nicer ones than Brighton Beach station I would suggest!! haha.
Ha, glad you enjoyed Brian, my aim is to make videos that all people can understand without getting too complicated.
such a great video about my home line!
I travel this line almost every day and never knew about the crossing loop at Hartwell, brilliant work.
Another awesome video!
Thanks again Stephen 😊
Hi there mate I just come across your UA-cam channel I grew up in and around deepens Kew Camberwell and Baldwin I remember a disused railway line from east Camberwell that passed under Canterbury road then under several other roads I believe that old line is now called anniversary trail I don't know if you know of it or weather it's worth looking at but I thought I'd mention it to you I love your video's great work 👍
It's shocking that they never have linked up Alamein with the rest of the network.
Indeed, even just a connection to the Glen Waverley Line if that is more convenient would be great to see
Great video ! Also I was the one who saw you at Richmond station the other day and said hi 👋
Wow, that's awesome, I didn't realise it was you! Great to put a face to the name :)
Yeah , I would have liked to talk more but had to catch train lol
Cool....thanks
It's a great little line that one. Nice and peaceful. I visited Walhalla only a couple of months ago and discovered that little secret about Hartwell station while I was there. So I went to Hartwell to go check it out, and also discovered an excellent little milk bar converted to a cafe called Fordham's. Just an excellent little hidden gem!
I also rode the Anniversary trail from Clifton Hill across to Kew, and then all the way to Oakleigh. Great bike trail if you're into that.
If you check out my Outer Circle Line, I rode from Hughesdale to Fairfeild, along the trail, which I agree is fantastic
It is the queitest line in Melbourne, very peaceful and full of gems, great to hear you found some Hartwell gems! Thanks :)
@@thetrainman548 - That's excellent! The Gardiners Creek trail is another good one in that area as well.
You make very good videos. I learnt a lot.
Glad you learnt something from it, thank you for watching!
I've just found this page, pretty insightful. I wonder if you'll ever do Sydney, but i understand its a whole different beast out here. We have double decker trains if that makes any differents ( just thought i'll put it out there) Keep up the good work Champ.
Thanks very much Tomi, would love to look at Sydney in the future, such a great system I have travelled on twice. Love the double deckers, very smart for the city! Thanks
@@thetrainman548 Thank you, that'll be awesome.
Good video more mix if at school get good mack
Well done again.
Thanks again Steve!
I always get excited when you post a new video, and i CAN'T wait for the Belgrave and Lilydale lines because my favourite station in the network is Tecoma and Croydon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Coming very soon, I love both the stations aswell, glad you enjoyed another video!
@@thetrainman548 I always enjoy your vids
@@thetrainman548 When in my life will I ever hate your video...
NEVER!!!!!😁😁
Good job mate, love your videos a lot.
Thanks for the support over many videos, glad you enjoy them!
You’re welcome! And which train line will you do next?
Belgrave and Lilydale have been filmed!
But when will you do the Sunbury Railway line? Ok I will view that video when it’s uploaded
Filming Sunbury and Werribee after lock downs unfortunately, wasn't planned but I will film them as soon as we are allowed out :)
Well done. God video. Although I had wondered if you'd done half of it in your boxers?
Thanks John, none of it done in the boxers aha
Damn only just missed the premier, sorry. I hope some more vids from the east come soon 😃
Q&A next (hopefully), then Belgrave and Lilydale, not sure which one first because I have divided the line between them, most likely Belgrave.
Good work
Thank you Jake!
Great vid. Do you have any more info on the line that went to hughesdale? I did hear the line crossed princess hwy
in the same day you got 100 sub congrats
Thank you Eddy!
One of my favourite metro lines
Hope I did it justice with this video!
@@thetrainman548 you did a good job
I heard that the Willison station buildings on both sides came from Orbost. When I visited Orbost in the ‘80s riding in the guard’s van, it only had the goods shed, oddly decorated with Mildura posters. The buildings were probably relocated in the ‘50s
That is very interesting Daryl, I had no idea about it's relationship to Orbost, they are very nice though!
This is interesting
Glad you think so, thanks!
So Alamein is named after the sight from WW2. I always used to think of this Alamein when Ted Bullpitt mentioned it in Kingswood Country. Great video too.
Thanks Cameron, the name of Alamein is very, very unique indeed!
What's weird is that the street that this station is located at is named "Alamein Ave"
Yay 😃
😊
Thumbs up again. Such a pretty little line. Maybe get mum to cut up the shorts for a home made covid mask though 🙂
Aha, no more filming for now, but a nice mask may be a good idea. Thanks again!
Riversdale signal box is still operational. The normal route setting is for the trams. When the bell annunciator rings for an UP or DN train the signal controller reverses the tram signals and derails, reverses the lever control for the tilt boom barriers and reverses the signal control lever for an UP or DN train. The next operation is to supply the correct current to the overhead. The overhead is an isolated square and by means of a control lever rail voltage, 1500 DC is applied to the square or tramway voltage, 600 DC. I have simplified the operation but it is a very interesting procedure non the less. All rail and tram crossings operate on the same principle.
Thank you for the information on the crossing Graeme, I have passed the crossing quite a few times in the last couple of years, and have always wondered how they controlled the wiring for when trams and trains cross.
The lovely little Alamein line. So quite and peaceful hahaha. Another great video Train Man......and to everyone else, watch Train Man's video on the Outer Circle line!
Thanks for the OCL plug Adam haha. Glad you enjoyed another one, it is such a lovely line!
@@thetrainman548 when's the Q & A vid?
Next video, next sunday
@@thetrainman548 can't wait! haha
Thanks again Train Man. Another informative. May I ask, was there a ever a join up with the Glen Waverley line?
There was, when the line was apart of the Outer Circle Line, it ran over the present golf course and junctioned with the then Darling Line, and continued past 250 metres roughly to Waverley Road station. Check out my OCL video for more!
You can see aerial photos in the foyer of the octagonal East Malvern Golf Club. At lest when I last visited.
They are still electrically connected (see the structures).
If you are working on the Belgrave/Lilydale lines, one thing to consider. Belgrave station is the highest in the Melbourne train network, approximately 234 metres above sea level.
Thank you for that fact, I must put it in the video, thanks!
@@thetrainman548 I watched the Belgrave line video, forgot to put it in. I still liked the entire video regardless.
Great as always train man
I think you should do a video about the City Loop
There was something else I thought of suggesting but I have forgotten so I’ll let you know if i remember
Great suggestion! I would love to do a video on the loop once lock downs are released, glad you liked the video!
I’ll Never Dislike Your Vids Train Man
There Awsome 😃😃😃
Thanks for the kind words :)
Yay!
Shoot! I missed it again. Maybe when it’s uploading set the premiere time for the day after it’s uploading so people will know and it won’t be so sudden. But great video though!
I will try and put it up an hour beforehand, always Sunday, between 5 and 6. Just want to get the videos up haha. Sorry for the miss again
ok cool!
Any chance of doing the old wonthaggi line which is now a fantastic bike trail there is a great photo of the old kilcunda station before it fell into the ocean. It looks, in design, just like the old hartwell station.
I would love to do the line, as long as I can ride the whole thing ie. trail the whole way!
you are my favourtive youtuber out of the 300 peple I am subed to you are my favourtive and I want to see you out in the open and covid crisie is bad
Thank you Eddy, that's very kind
I like these vids keep it up
I'm also Bailey Phillips just changed the yt name
Nice to see you've had a name change Bailey, and even better to see you enjoyed another video! Thanks :)
Do a video on the Surburbian Rail Loop and Metro 2.
Great videos for the lock down, you might see them in a month or two
when your done with the suburb lines can you do some vlines and than you can do some trams and buses that'll be cool
For sure, V-Lines may take longer to film, but I would love to explore all over Victoria
Chadstone Shopping centre would love to have an underground station but the Alamein line would need to be extended with a tunnel from somewhere between Burwood and Ashburton stations so that there can be duplication between Ashburton and Alamein and those two stations going underground to protect the heritage listing of the corridor, but before such project should be allowed, I would want to see the level crossings at Riversdale and Prospect Hill Roads (the only two crossings remaining) removed first because there will be so much demand for any service that goes to Chadstone Shopping centre that services will need to increase frequency in order to prevent exceeding full capacity, and therefore the two level crossings will become traffic nightmares
I have an idea: make a video about Belgrave to the station after it and about the landslide
I shall look into it as apart of a Puffing Billy video, when it reopens. I think I briefly mention it in the upcoming Belgrave video
Hi, do you know when the stream will be tonight? Or has filming stopped?
5-6pm, Q and A video!
1:06 I didn’t know there was a station called ‘Our first station’
Walhalla i guess is officially closed- but it kind of isn't because its a tourist train line now with a new station building built
I must check it out! Such a bunch of great history, thanks!
What time will the Q & A come out so if it’s a premiere I’ll see it live
Not too sure, haven't filmed or editied, buy most likely Sunday around 5-6
Ok thanks will it premiere
I recommend you should premiere it since it’s a special
@@victoriantransportvideos most likely, depending on when I finish the editing!
Ok
Burwood station is my station
I’m not sure if you know about this max, but Riversdale Station has its own cafe
it is very interesting, used it once before!
@@thetrainman548 cheers when’s the next video coming?
where you inspired Geoff marshall? also please do the Werribee line there are so many abandoned stations like manor parsley and griffin.
This series is inspired by Geoff Marshall, although my videos tend to have more history, where his have more 'secrets'. Werribee would have come this week if lock downs had not come so quickly, unfortunately I didn't film Werribee in time, will have to wait a month or two for that, sorry :(
do u remember my question for ur Q&A? (if u don't know its how did u come up with train vids)
Yep, should answer it in the video
Hey Alex, just finished the Q and A and realised I haven't mentioned you in the video, I am really sorry, I will mention you in the descriotion
thanks keep covid safe hey..
I will, no more filming for now, luckily I have pre filmed some videos!
hi there i do like the videos you have put out but with the sound was a bit low next time a bit louder so keep them coming as i do have a UA-cam channel and i had the same .
Thanks for the feedback amander, I shall increase the volume!
Weird/sad fact: every time I go on the Alamein Line, someone dies...actually, it is every time someone dies on the Glen Waverley Line, I go on the Alamein Line. Btw, its a good cycle path beside this line, and some great street art on the Toorak Rd bridge between Burwood & Hartwell stations.
That is quite sad :(, that is a bad consequence for you. The bike path is indeed a very nice ride, hope you enjoyed the video!
@@thetrainman548 Just sad that people decide to take their own lives. No coincidence...I just take Alamein Line as an alternate route home when Glen Waverley Line is out. Your videos are fun and enjoyable to watch, thank you!
eeeeeyyyy u made another vid!
That's correct, hope you enjoyed :)
i will always enjoy ur vids
also when u said where i lived i was walking between syndal and mount waverly station and saw some tracks off the lane
That's interesting, I live close to there, I must check it out
it's in the Waverly rail-trail is where I saw a part of a track
How did you get so much subs you had 100 subs last time I checked
I have gained about a thousand in the past 3 months! Let's keep it going though!
The Train Man yeah I wonder why you gained so much, you post great content but you always have
Yay when is the Werribee Line done
It was supposed to be next, but I didn't film in time for lock downs, so that video will have to wait for a month, sorry, hope you enjoyed this video!
The Train Man ok
Wait, those boomgates at Riversdale look automatic...?
They do don't they, I am not too sure it is true, but a few sources I checked confirms it, I believe they are automatic but might need to do a bit of digging to figure out the true answer, good pickup!
@@thetrainman548 I don't see someone manually opening/shutting them, that's the thing
Manual gates look. or rather looked, as there's none left, like this 4:42 ua-cam.com/video/X3a5C-ejXTU/v-deo.html
Yes, they must be automatic, great link there btw!
Am I still able to enter a Q&A Question also when is it coming out?
Of course, email your questions to my email in the description, the more the merrier :)
Thanks when’s the video coming out?
Just so I know
Next video, next sunday hopefuly
Ok thanks Train man
So, I Just Re-Watched this Video for Fun and You Forgot to Mention that Alamein Station and the Surrounding Area is Named after the Battle of El Alamein. Just wanted to point that out.
Thanks mate, I think I tried to point it out, without actually saying the name of the battle haha, my apologies :)
Why do most trains on this line only have 3 cars? Well because on weekdays trains only run between Alamein to Camberwell
Yes, lots of 3 cars, mainly because the patronage of the line is not enough for 6 cars (I had my own carriage several times)
Me to lol
when does ur Q&A start?
I am doing the Q and A video next week, send your questions to the email in the description of you have any!
do u remember my question?
Yep
Just wondering why haven’t you uploaded for 7 months
My guess he is concentrating on Tertiary studies for his future security,
im so sorry to repeat my questions I'm just worried:(
whenever a train passes our house, I come to my backyard just to see if its the new high-capacity train.
Keep doing that, maybe one day haha
Yep
british train shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha, glad you noticed!
im tracking ur sub count
Sounds good!
Just thought I’d let you know I’ll be sending through an email to you soon for Q & A
Please let me know if it came through
I put Victorian Transport Videos at the start of it
All of those questions you have mentioned in your email will be included in the video! Although I haven't visited too many V-Line station's haha
Ok at least it went through
by 2025 it will only be 2 trams squares as the Glenhuntly tram square level crossing is removed
That's correct, hopefully I can track the progress of the crossing!
if the comments get to much will you still reple to the commets if so when will that be
I hope to reply to most comments for years to come! I don't see a reason to stop :)
👏Where's👏the👏werribee👏line👏
Haha, I'm afraid I didn't film it before lock downs began. Might be a month or before you see the video :( sorry
