How can Sony make something like that mandatory? Eventually the console will seriously drop off in power as they can't be upgraded and software inevitably gets more demanding. If you're happy with eventually getting 60 fpd at 360p then knock yourself out.

Linear game with already established game, much longer development time being a launch title. I'm not surprised and hopefully more devs can follow suit better to get most of out the PS5
Because it's one of the few games developed strictly for the next/current ps5 gen. As we all know by now, most of the other games they initially said where PS5 exclusive, where in reality crossgen and Sony basically lied.
@@J.A.Z-TheMortalthat being part of the problem. We have a pro when the base model still feels underutilized. Every generation you could tell a launch game from a mid to late gen game. Here we are four years later and some of the best looking games are launch games or ps4 games.

Just my 2 cents on this. I think some of these games should not have been demoed. Most of those 11 titles already looked great on the base PS5 and is not going to get anyone to go out and buy new hardware. Titles I wish we saw are Final Fantasy 16, More on Dragons Dogma 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and any other title that struggles on the base PS5. If the target audience for the PS5 Pro is people who prefer to play at 60 FPS then the only way this console will be worth it will be if Sony made it so that all games or at least 95% of the existing titles available on PS4 and PS5 will get a boost to 60fps without requiring developers to update their game.
It should have been like on pc. You upgrade your hardware and the same game at same settings runs better. This thing had developers adding more modes to choose and more ray tracing on top. It’s a meas
Resident Evil 2,3,4 Remake PS5-versions would have been a good show off. They all can’t keep a locked 60fps so I had to play PS4-version of RE3 on PS5. Another obvious game to show would be PS5-version of Elden Ring. Probably PS4-version can drop too on PS5.
Those games only struggle on the base PS5 because the developers failed to properly optimise their games. The console is more than capable, in fact its potential has barely been tapped. The PS5 pro isn't something that needs to exist, it's just going to encourage more developers to be lazy and make games that aren't properly optimised for the base console.

I have been wondering the same thing. Before the pro was revealed I thought that Cyberpunk would be the game Sony chose to showcase the new hardware. Especially with how much better ray tracing is in the PC version versus the PS5 version.
@@evanlynch9221I doubt pros improved RT hardware will be enough to match PC ray tracing in cyberpunk. That game has really intense and all encompassing RT compared to other ones. This is precisely the problem. Some devs aren't properly optimising their games to run on the hardware, which they most definitely could. As you say, looking at the Sony developed games really demonstrates this. The pro model will just encourage more devs to be more lazy with optimising. The "level of detail" is barely perceptible, there's just no need for it at all.

Excellent work by Oliver to make sure we have some hands on impressions before pre-orders go live. Personally I remain quite unimpressed, the games they are showing off seem to have modest upgrades for the most part and these are games which already looked amazing
The PS5 Pro has made for a better stop gap between console and PC. In 2018 PC gamers not only were able to start experiencing ray tracing, but DLSS as well with Nvidia's 2000 series GPU's. Since then, it's only grown by leaps and bounds with each successive generation. PS5/XBSX did for console gamers, what the 2000 series Nvidia cards did for PC gamers, and the PS5 Pro is simply stepping up that technology. For me, having the image quality of fidelity mode, with the 60+FPS of performance mode, while still maintaining RT is amazing. The $700 price tag has turned some people away ( 40% increase over the disc version of PS5), but for the improvement it's justified to me , but I understand if it's not to you. Also, for those who don't come from the PC world, I promise you that $700 is peanuts, especially for what you're getting with the PS5 Pro. Just my $0.02

But for those like myself willing to spend hard earned money to get the best experience possible, then we have that option now. I also understand the specs and what’s under the hood is actually a decent price, compared to what a similar built pc would look like. To those not getting it, base ps5 is perfectly fine.

I bought a PS5 specifically because of Demon's Souls. I might honestly buy a PS5 PRO...again because of Demon's Souls. The game is still, in my opinion, best looking game ever made. It's just ridiculously consistent and clean. The effects, the textures...I really hope Bluepoint is going to remake other Sony classics...I mean giving Bloodborne that treatment would be awesome overkill, but thinking more about a crazy jump in fidelity...imagine the mess that is Dark Souls 2 (I know, don't kill me DS2 fanboys...but the devs themselves agree that it was a mess of a game) brought up to this standard while maintaining most of the gameplay as the same like Bluepoint did with DS.
Demon Souls look already amazing and runs flawlessly on base PS5 on my 85 inch. But to me PS5 Pro is not worth it for that sole reason, because i know what devs can do with the hardware, but most wont bother to optimize their games and fully squeeze its true potential.

By the end you saw things being done that you never thought possible and the quality was night and day different between the first game and last. Since the introduction of 'mid gen' consoles... you lose out on that and developers dont have to refine their own skills and get better at the hardware they are given because now they know something beefier is not far away.
Nah, I mean, yeah DF is talking lots of good stuff about it, with technical background to support it, but I don't really think the casual player is interested in a technical presentation talking about dynamic resolutions, how much an upscaler is better than the other, how much RT they're implementing, etc. So much so, even after all this talking and praising the PS5 Pro, I can NOT see it being worth the trade for the base model, considering it's huge price gap. If you simply play those games on the base model you 90% of the time won't notice a difference, just very small things here and there, TECHNICAL things, which again, doesn't matter for the casual preople.

I remember the days when a platform was launched and throughout its life you saw the improvements with each new game released. By the end you saw things being done that you never thought possible and the quality was night and day different between the first game and last. Since the introduction of 'mid gen' consoles... you lose out on that and developers dont have to refine their own skills and get better at the hardware they are given because now they know something beefier is not far away.
Once again I have to say, Oliver has been a phenomenal addition to the DF crew. Glad he got to go on this trip and bring us this insight. 🔥

Now you need to fork out much more, but not just for the console, you also need a decent display to take advantage of the hardware. There's also the need for glasses 🤓 because the more we stare at our device screens the more our vision is impaired.
Gaming is fast becoming unaffordable for me. I have things that take precedence over the outrageous cost involved in being a console gamer. It's not just consoles, but the perpetual push to upgrade everything, constantly. Surely people will come to their senses, at least those with more common sense than money 🤔
Retro games are the tits! Just saying
People say PCs are expensive but you have people buying a $500 ps5 then want to get the $700 pro. That’s $1200 there…could have had that pc.
@@cmdrdredd then you have people like me who only have a base PS5 because a relative died who owned one. I cant afford the base one, let alone a pro or a pc. But it's more to do with the cost of living going up than games tbh.
This is a performance channel first. Pixel peeping is the name of the game here.
I enjoy it because they're so good at it, but it's not at all where my interest in gaming truly lies.
It does not surprise that they would positively cover a machine that can crank out slightly sharper pixels, more rays to trace, maps to bump (I don't know what I'm talking about!) I find it interesting as tech, but it doesn't do much for the art of gaming for me. No shade towards DF, they cover what they're good at.
@@Clogmonger I'm sorry for your loss. 🙏
Most of the games from Sony Studios look good on the PS5 and run stable at 60fps. Then it got interesting for me... Dragons Dogma 2. And I was disappointed that it didn't run stable on the Pro either. I'm not convinced by the Pro yet. It's not worth 920€
Do you have vrr?
Im confused - on 26:57 - PS5 on the left side?? Cause PS5 Pro look worser on right.
Nope. Look again at the PS5 Pro footage. The red tower in the background is less blurry, there's sharper looking foliage in the foreground and his metal backpack looks shinier. I'm not a huge fan of these mid-gen refreshes but it's a pretty clear winner to me.
@@Jalex0021 but there are triple less crowd on chairs
I’ve had each console day 1 since this PS3. This will be the first time I’m honestly not bothered about getting an Upgrade. I’ll need to see a lot more games being improved before I consider it.
The only difference I can see is a lighter sadder wallet.
120, even just 60fps is far more important than all this other nonsense.
We need a cyberpunk enhancement for the pro
Cdpr said it's finished already
@@0niXin0 they will defenetely release a patch
Just like they did for Witcher 3 and PS4 Pro
Not visible 'at a typical viewing distance' isn't a resonable excuse for issues when most of the advantages for this console are just as difficult to spot.
You could probably notice the framerate difference, just saying
@@HoonterKuron but most games don't get a framerate difference. The CPU is the same. You can get better graphics in the performance mode, but rarely is a performance mode available where otherwise unavailable.
@@existentialselkath1264 There’s only a a handful of games where the cpu is bottlenecking the system
@@HoonterKuron if a game doesn't have a 60fps performance mode on PS5, it wont be because the GPU can't do it but because the CPU can't. You can always lower settings and resolution to add a 60fps mode if there's no CPU bottleneck.
@@existentialselkath1264 Uhh yeah, that's the point, it's lowering internal res then upscaling it.
What is impressive here is all that quad transparency overdraw from a line of cars. 2:46
Yeah, no!
For 920€ (including drive) I will upgrade to 5070 or 5080 for proper DLSS Ultra RT 4K 80-90 fps.
Standard PS5 is good enough for playing with friends and when they come over.
Well yeah but if u don't want to deal with pc than this is great
As a fellow rtx4090 gamer here, I reckon you will not get 5080 nor 5070 card with 920€.
@@Jurmuli I'm guessing the 5080 will be $1k because the 4080 didnt sell at $1200. 5070 600-700 easily.
Thinking the same. I have a PS5 and now bought a PC, don’t want any compromises anymore and a console without disk drive is a deal breaker. For PC digital is fine as it is an open platform.
Does your 5070 have a disk drive?
Wanna know what's better at playing old games? A damn PC. Where all games are backward compatible and settings/resolutions/framerate can be changed as you upgrade your system - and don’t have some arbitrary 3rd party dictate what is compatible and what isn’t with predefined “modes” for a tiny selection of all the game available.
I don’t think this makes a good argument for the PS5 PRO at all. Especially when you look at the price.
$700 minimum for a similar visual experience to the base ps5 at the appropriate sitting distance is a horrendous deal. Even DF are x200 zooming to find some improved sharpness. No thanks, I'm saving my $600 for the PS6.
I think the ps5 pro is geared more towards enthusiasts and consumers that haven't bought a ps5 yet but have been thinking about buying one these upcoming holidays.
@@Helix_vpeople who don't have a PS5 yet can also just buy a ps5 instead of a pro haha. It's still a fair bit cheaper, especially if you want a disc drive.
all pretty interesting to see. im not sure its worthy of its price tag difference over the base but it is nice to see console catching up or rather trailing PC much closer than in the past.
I can't see much if any difference with quality on some of these games. UA-cam compression??
I'm having a hard time seeing a difference in most of these games. F1 definitely looks better.
Final fantasy difference is huge.

$700 for better grass. Congratulations
Better grass if you pause to notice it .
Yeah the rest of the visuals don’t receive any upgrade. Just the grass. Yeah.
But the grass blades can now reflect other glass blades nearby!
Remember "Horse armor"
We've been paying for better grass since GPUs became serialized let's be real
17:24 Not even the sony devs like 30fps they should not bother with graphics anymore. Only focus on performance and try to see how much they can get away and still get 60fps.
