However, if you ask them about their view on Taiwan independence, the majority will fiercely argue against it. I met some of these people in Thailand after COVID. There was a small group of Chinese who kept to themselves at our hostel. One day I overheard them in Chinese repeatedly talking about my country Mexico which got me to talk with them. They were quite happy to learn I could speak Chinese but more excited to learn I was from Mexico. They started asking me a bunch of questions about crossing the border into the US to which I bluntly told them I had no idea about and discouraged it. I asked where they got these crazy ideas from and they said that people were posting videos and tutorials of how to cross into the US online. The Chinese government hard handed approach to COVID was what made them leave. They wanted to go both for the freedom and economic benefits but they had a very naive and overly optimistic view of the US. They saw the high wages US workers were making but had no idea as to the incredibly high living costs associated with living there. I tried explaining that there was a housing shortage and that their expectations for life in the US would set them for disappointment but they either didn't believe me or brushed off my criticism. I also tried encouraging them to go to German or Australia instead (places which I feel would be better and easier for them to enter) but they seemed dead set on just going to the US. Unfortunately I don't know where they are now as Wechat is blindly and constantly blocking and deleting accounts in SE Asia without reason🙄.
They are looking for employment, period. China is in straight up recession right now. Foreign capital leaving, factories shutting down, real estate prices nosedive, consumer demand is dead. Etc etc. these Chinese really think that 🇺🇸 is gravy like you said! Very accurate, but reality sucks!
These people are lack of education, thinking US is a dream heaven, lots of freedom and money falling from the sky. It's social media distributing wrong informations. Very unfortunate, small kids, old grandparents and teens are dragged along . Totally disgusting.
Many of those people escape China for economic reasons. They will realize that life in the USA is not like in Hollywood movies and that not everyone is rich. Most had a better life in China (they even had money for this expensive journey that many Americans don't have ) than they will have in the USA especially if they are not young or/ and can't speak English.
Well, on average, Americans of Chinese descent tend to move quickly into the upper middle class. By quickly I mean within a generation, not just in a few years. These people do it for their children's future.
Yes, it's not all perfect just like any country. They will struggle especially if they don't speak English and I'm sure they know that so the fact that they're willing to endure tells you how bad it is for them in China. I think they would have a better understanding than say you, especially when over 600 million still live on $138 dollars a month, high youth unemployment, FDI flowing out, stagnating economy, repressive government, lack of freedom. I think they've calculated their risks.
Many of those that entered US watched video on Chinese media known as "Xiao Hong Shu" that teaches ways to enter US illegally. It is very common that many borrowed money from friends and relatives, max out credit cards or take loans from banks with no intention to pay back the money.

These Chinese individuals were unable to obtain a visa from the US government. However, they were still free to leave China with their Chinese passport issued by the Chinese government. Another wave of misguided belief that America is the best. They will find out life is difficult there - language barrier, cultural barrier, racism and societal issue will bring tremendous challenges. I wish them all the best.
Just like that mother said, "We have gone through the forest, nothing is more horrible than that." Do you think the things you mentioned would really stop them? You weren't born in China, you haven't lived there, and you haven't experienced China's Zero Covid Policy. You don't understand how people like them felt during that time. People who wanted a better life couldn't speak out or criticize their government; they couldn't publicly complain about or oppose the policy without risking arrest. For some, freedom is paramount. In America, they might be able to overcome language barriers, cultural differences, and the other challenges you mentioned if they work hard. In China, they can't, because the system won't allow it.
Still better than life in China. There's more discrimination in China believe it or not. If you were born in a poor town or village you can even enter a first tier city without a government permission. And don't even get me started if you're a Uyghur, or Tibetan

I immigrated here legally. And I don't feel that it is "unfair" at all. It was 100% luck that I was born in Taiwan and not China. But it still took 4 years between when we applied for a visa and when it was granted. If my family was being persecuted by the government (my parents are Christian as well), waiting for 4 years not knowing if you're going to be thrown in prison is very scary. They started asking me a bunch of questions about crossing the border into the US to which I bluntly told them I had no idea about and discouraged it. The Chinese government hard handed approach to COVID was what made them leave. They wanted to go both for the freedom and economic benefits but they had a very naive and overly optimistic view of the US. They saw the high wages US workers were making but had no idea as to the incredibly high living costs associated with living there. The problem is that most Chinese arriving in the states have “American Dream” but not “American Values”. They left China seeking better life but continue to support CCP in the states.
Yes my mother -in-law (from mainland China) still think China is number 1. Brainwashed. We argue a lot (she is living with me in America) so I tell her if you are not happy living in my house, she should go back to China.

Soooo unfair. I’ve been waiting for two years to immigrate from Canada to USA. My husband is American and our sons are American/canadian dual citizens. Although I’ve been approved and paid thousand in fees to USA gov … I still have yet to receive my paperwork or green card. Years. But these people have special privileges I don’t understand. It’s like the process honours only the illegal immigrants but can’t be bothered with those of us who did things the right and legal way. Frustrating to see all that is going on over there while I’m still unable to join my family.
Well... their special privilege is probably costing a lot more money and is a LOT more dangerous. They're also not documented so even if you were given the chance, I highly doubt you would do the same.
They are an entitled bunch thanks to our evil administration. Hope your legal paperwork goes through soon. It’s insane.
Most of them are gonna regret it big time I reckon. If someone can't make it in their native country, it's unlikely they can make it in a country, where they do not speak much of the language, and worse still, for those who are past their prime.
if China were better why’re many despite living here for years not move back?
@@gametri-eq6lj 1. I said "most of them". Those you have seen might not be those I am referring to. 2. It also depends on whether moving back is an option for them or not. 3. I'm all for legal immigration. Not illegal immigrants. We have to keep track of everyone responsibly. I keep telling the government to use millions of law enforcement drones and robots, but I don't know if they're working on it or not. I've seen some sweet drones, but they need to be upgraded in the ways I've been bringing up.
My parents and forefathers were once have a chance to migrate to USA because our country was once their territory but they did Not. They chose to become Independent and rule their own land. I would say semi because USA really never left. The one odd about our generation we have to go through the same process like everyone else. While USA citizens are free visa to come to our islands, we are not. Many Chinese immigrants also came to us by boats but that was when they were persecuted during the early 1900's and the Mao time. Same with the Vietnam time. Whatever the reason, they are uncontrolled. These immigrants have no respect at all at your immigration laws. If you want to end up like us in South China Sea go ahead.

@Melinda_Ross no. You've had enough of Bidens ways of wrongly doing things. If we set up everything before allowing people to come in, we'd be able to handle it far better. But, Biden didn't. He shoved everyone in and said deal with it.
Lol…the “American Dream” who’s gonna tell them. 😂😂😂
Compared to China? Who wants the Chinese nightmare?
Under normal circumstances, various aspects of life in China are not restricted, it's just that censorship of speech and behavior is relatively strict, especially after the pandemic. As long as you don't speak out in government settings or joke among friends, it's fine. Most people here may have been subjected to political persecution or have a strong dislike for the Communist Party. It is also possible that they lack the ability to live in China and have an overly idealistic view of American utopian society.
