Thank-you! Hearing the noise yours made on the video helped me correctly diagnose the problem we had, and seeing your clear how-to also made it straight forward for me to get ours sorted in short order :-) Although a different style of internal system than yours, the principal was the same - having taken mine apart to measure the washer before ordering I cleaned it up before reassembling and the noise has stopped for the time being! :-D Still ordered some new spares as doubt the clean-up will be a lasting solution, but at least I now know how to fix it all quick and easy :-)

Thank you for this video demonstration. I will give it a try. The cistern was only filling half way up and I managed to work out how to adjust it but it is also making this dreadful noise when filling up.
Update 🎉🎉🎉 It worked! I found it tricky though because I needed brut force to get access to the stopcock unscrewing over tight screws, shutting the water off and unscrewing the attachment in the cistern. Then I snapped a tiny bit of the plastic rim prising out the end side where the diaphragm is. I had to check your video a few times to ensure I had the replacement diaphragm the right way in. I really struggled putting it all back together because I could not see there were very small male/female groves to tighten it all back up. So all in all it took me about 90 minutes as opposed to your 5 min video but boy am I pleased with myself! 😊. Thank you it must have saved me paying around £120 to call out a Plumber and then some.

Hey, really glad I came across this video. Recently bought a house and when I flushed the downstairs toilet, it made such a terrible noise for almost 2 mins that EVERYONE in the house had to wait for it to end before they could do anything else (it was that bad). Initially thought I would spend a fortune getting a plumber out to check/fix because I thought I couldn't fix it myself. The UA-cam videos I can across didn't help; some of them even cut through the dry wall to change pipes! That's why I am so grateful it didn't cost me more than £5 pounds and about 10mins to fix. The Mrs. jokes I'm a proper plumber now :-). Oh yeah, I didn't "forget to "Like" this video, leave a "Comment" and "Subscribe" to our channel (IT'S FREE), hitting the bell to all to be notified of new uploads" lol.

Hi, please don’t get me wrong. This is a great, well explained, well recorded video and seems to have sorted the problem for a lot of people but I did notice something that puzzled me. When you took the original washer out the concave side of the washer was on the bottom. When you replaced it with the new washer you flipped it over so the ‘prominent’ sticky out ( apologies for the non technical language) side was on the bottom and the concave side uppermost. I don’t know if this was deliberate, or even if you were aware of what you did. I guess my question is, does it matter which way up you place the diaphragm washer ? Well done on a great video. Thanks

Alright, I've ordered some. This was by far the easiest tutorial on how to fix this problem, I've had it for months. Going to the toilet in the middle of the night for it to play "Let's act like a ship" was getting a bit old.

Thanks so much! Our utility cistern as been wonky for years. Easy fix for £2.25!

Thanks for this - our loo started making a godawful water hammer just as it was shutting off - in our case the washer was caked in grotty scale, cleaning it and the seating fixed the problem (for now until we refit the bathroom)! Thankyou 👍

Many thanks for this extremely helpful video! 👍👍
Our toilet sounded like an ocean liner, it could be heard all around the house, and it wouldn't surprise me if neighbors at the end of the road heard it too! 🙄😲
I thought it was going to be expensive to fix but only cost £3.01 for pack of 5 from Screwfix.... the best pennies I've ever spent! 😂 TANK YOU!!👍👍😃

A very useful demonstration of changing the rubber diaphragm. This is almost similar to mine

Unbelievable as you said yourself in the video! We put up with the foghorn every time we flushed as we thought it would cost £££ to fix, a family member even reckoned the noise was coming from pipes up in the loft! Noise now gone thanks to this video and a pack of rubber washers from toolstation 😊 have a ko-fi on me sir 👍🏻 cheers

Thanks - this was really helpful! Only issue now seems to be that there isn't enough upward pressure from the water to float the ballcock high enough to stop the water flow.... I'm sure I put the new washer in the right way (think it only fits one way) and changed no other settings...
Any ideas?? It definitely DID solve the "rattle problem" though, so I'm halfway there! 🙂
