Thank you so much for this video! I am a 68 year old on a basic pension and really didn’t want to be calling out a plumber! So simple for anyone to do. Kind regards Kathleen
Finally, i now know why our toilet makes this dreaded noise. Only took 6+ months for me to finally get around to researching it. Thank you for the upload.
@@cherylalexes6540 - water level shouldn’t be anywhere near the toilet handle. You need to keep the water from filling so high by adjusting the ball cock.
I had the same problem, hence why I looked for it on youtube. after watching you video, I followed your simple instructions. Apart from replacing the rubber seal, i just gave it a good clean and would you believe it, it is now back to normal working order. Thank you.
Mate you’re a life saver, my partner has been complaining about the noise in the toilet since I turned the water off and on again to change some taps. This worked a treat!
Watched your video yesterday. Went out and bought Flomasta Ball Valve Repair kit for £2.98 from Screwfix and now I'm living in silence thank you very much. You saved me the hassle of not having the plumbing cost or having them in my house.
This literally solved my problem, other videos said I had to replace the whole unit like he says but that would have cost me £15+ instead this solution cost me £5 and took 2 minutes, thank you!
Great video, went months with this issue. When the toilet was used we had to turn on the cold tap at the sink which stopped the noise but took ages for the toilet to fill, used the link provided to get the washer and just installed it in less than £10 minutes. No no more noise and a happy household
Absolutely brilliant, this was exactly my problem and with an identical cistern..Excellent video..Went to B & Q bought a packet of Plumb sure ballvalve diaphragm washers, 2 for £1.49 .Fitting washer took literally 5 mins with a perfect result, thank you very much.
I followed this video today after months of suffering with a noisy toilet and it now works perfectly! 😊 Thank you so much for uploading such a helpful and useful video. I have now subscribed to your channel for future help on other issues too 😊
Just another comment saying THIS WORKS! Took about 5 minutes and now I admit I almost quite miss the foghorn greeting every flush. Excellent vid, thank you.
Thank you so much!! This fixed the noise in one of my toilets and slow filling in another. I never knew it was a problem this simple. We were seriously considering replacing the whole cistern because they were more than 20 years old... you saved us so much hassle and money. Hats off..
Great and very effective advice thank you. Fixed my noisy toilet flush problem without calling a plumber and without needing to replace the full flush mechanism.
Thank you so much mate, ive put up with this foghorn racket for a year now, and since seeing this clip and following your link for those stupid little inexpensive washer things, i cant believe how easy it was to fix myself...was a little different than your cistern setup but basiclly the same, it has also fixed dripping noise and slow refilling of cistern, you have saved me a fortune on plummer time and parts i would probably not require, thanks again, dan, 👍👍👍👍
Thank you for this incredible solution. I was quoted £95 but I thought I should check a fix first on UA-cam; I came across your channel and I bought the washer for £3. It took me less than 5 mins and the noise is gone. Thanks
THANK YOU SOOOÒO MUCH!!! Had a toilet that made a racket for years. Ordered a pack of 5 diaphragms for £2.50. Quick fix and I'm exceptionally happy! Thanx!
Thank-you! Hearing the noise yours made on the video helped me correctly diagnose the problem we had, and seeing your clear how-to also made it straight forward for me to get ours sorted in short order :-) Although a different style of internal system than yours, the principal was the same - having taken mine apart to measure the washer before ordering I cleaned it up before reassembling and the noise has stopped for the time being! :-D Still ordered some new spares as doubt the clean-up will be a lasting solution, but at least I now know how to fix it all quick and easy :-)
Brilliant! Thank you very much for your help. Your video turned what I thought was going to be a long complicated process into a satisfyingly straightforward job.
Thank you for this video demonstration. I will give it a try. The cistern was only filling half way up and I managed to work out how to adjust it but it is also making this dreadful noise when filling up. Update 🎉🎉🎉 It worked! I found it tricky though because I needed brut force to get access to the stopcock unscrewing over tight screws, shutting the water off and unscrewing the attachment in the cistern. Then I snapped a tiny bit of the plastic rim prising out the end side where the diaphragm is. I had to check your video a few times to ensure I had the replacement diaphragm the right way in. I really struggled putting it all back together because I could not see there were very small male/female groves to tighten it all back up. So all in all it took me about 90 minutes as opposed to your 5 min video but boy am I pleased with myself! 😊. Thank you it must have saved me paying around £120 to call out a Plumber and then some.
Flushed our toilet recently and the awful noise it made almost gave me a heart attack. Thankfully got the wee washer and changed just as you expertly showed. Thank you for the video, not only for instructions on how to fix, but my god did it calm me down after that first flush. Thought the toilet had got a job a NASA and was ready for blast off.

I just fixed my toilet because of your video I cleaned the washer and also found that someone put one of those hanging fragrance things in it which could of caused the problem maybe , I removed it . The washer looked fine and I learnt something new today thanks to your video I learnt about different sounds and what they relate to and I learnt about shutting the valve off and where it's located . Thanks very much . Our toilet sounded like a foghorn and was really loud . It's nice and quiet now and it's saved paying a plumber .

Can't understand why so many would dislike this with their thumbs down....beggars belief Thanks for sharing your tip & saving time and waste into the bargain 👍
Worked a treat. We have put up with banging pipes and terrible noise throughout the pandemic as we couldn't justify paying £75 for the plumber. Went to Travis Perkins who sell a 10 pack for £1.73 and took about 5 minutes to install Thanks so much sharing.
Superb! Thanks very much for this.At first it looked like you were putting new diaphragm in opposite way from the old one you took out...I put the new one in the same way you did and it worked! I think it just looked like that because the old diaphram was very stretched over time....thanks again.
This noise has annoyed me for the last 5 years. Finally decided to fix it and found your video. A pack of 5 diaphragms for £1.94 saved me a massive plumbers bill. Brilliant vid and thank you for that!

Hi, please don’t get me wrong. This is a great, well explained, well recorded video and seems to have sorted the problem for a lot of people but I did notice something that puzzled me. When you took the original washer out the concave side of the washer was on the bottom. When you replaced it with the new washer you flipped it over so the ‘prominent’ sticky out ( apologies for the non technical language) side was on the bottom and the concave side uppermost. I don’t know if this was deliberate, or even if you were aware of what you did. I guess my question is, does it matter which way up you place the diaphragm washer ? Well done on a great video. Thanks

Noise now gone thanks to this video and a pack of rubber washers from toolstation 😊 have a ko-fi on me sir 👍🏻 cheers
Thanks - this was really helpful! Only issue now seems to be that there isn't enough upward pressure from the water to float the ballcock high enough to stop the water flow.... I'm sure I put the new washer in the right way (think it only fits one way) and changed no other settings... Any ideas?? It definitely DID solve the "rattle problem" though, so I'm halfway there! 🙂

Thank you so much for this post, I had the same for months, today tackling the problem found your video, easy fix 👍
Excellent, thank you .
Very clear and simple guide. Appreciate you sharing.
Thanks this has helped me a lot I thought it was air in the pipes and kept on bleeding them😊
