So glad I watched this. My windshield is cloudy and leaks. Now I know exactly how I'm gonna go about paying someone to do this instead of me.

Kevin Tetz gives the best advice I’ve ever heard in my life during this video: if you get frustrated, take a break.

In 1972 our dealer handed internal repair orders for installing bumpers, upgraded radios and rear sliders in pickups. It was very common as every vehicle had rubber gaskets. I am sure there is a lot of advice like the dish soap & water. Had two woven ropes way long but on oak dowels and narrowed center for comfort and the ropes tag end ties off. Other than starting on the bottom using the windows weight to assist the install, I did sliders while open but sprayed WD40 which evaporates after a few hours, but works great. Installing hoses, hose removal using hose tool from SnapOn (Standard and extra long) and installing glass. A hand on the wooden pull, work the rope and spray the WD40 thru straw and never had an issue on hundreds. 3M make a “Auto Bedding and Glazing Compound” P/N 8509 today is $10-$15 for a caulking gun cartridge that is non-hardening, black, remains pliable for 32 years, seals a leak using a dealer service manual air pressure procedure and soapy water for location. A length of brake line brazed onto an air blower I made in the 70’s, but dries the area very well. Tiny cut in the plastic tip allows a tech while pulling out on the rubber with a wiper-arm tool gave you enough to push in place with a paint stick and wipes off with a little acetone. Even with the “Alkaloyd Enamel” use during this time did no harm.
Nice effort, lots of extra work when doing this trim but worth it. The new trim won’t work with NOS rubber as it deeper. Regards, ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired.

quick tip: when you're working with the stainless trim and using a screw driver or needle nose pliers, wrap one layer of blue tape on the tips of the screw driver and the jaws of the pliers and it won't leave micro scratches in your molding.

I owned my 72 Cheyenne since Oct 71 and am still driving it every year. Living in the country and working in the oil patch I went through many windshields. The newer ones were leakers until I found a NOS with thicker glass. I am running the factory gasket now in 2024.

In my 68, I switched cabs because of rust about 20 years ago. The windshield Was good so we successfully put the windshield in the new cab, which was the original from the factory it is still in my truck today in good condition,, and the back glass too.

I just bought the standard rear window rubber seal, which is the one without the trim. Is that going to be more likely to fault than one with the trim? It seems to me, after watching this, the trim also holds the window in place better.

...haven't done the windshield, but I have replaced the rear window on my '70 with nothing but a flat screwdriver, worked fine. Re-used my old rubber(my old glass got broken out). Found a used glass, cut the rubber with a utility knife and out it came. WAY better to fix than this modern glue-in crap. Try getting out a used glue-in windshield or rear glass without breaking it....Never should have gotten away from the rubber seals...
