LightningLover that’s funny, going into those movies I had no idea who anyone was I later learned that was her after watching the movies a bunch 🙄 they did a bad job lol
Easily my favorite cartoon as a kid growing up. I had no idea how hard Margaret Loesch had to fight so hard to get it... And the fact that she did makes her awesome as hell to me!
Thanks to Margaret Loesche and the entire cast and crew of one of the greatest shows that was ever on television. Cathal Dodd will always be the voice of Wolverine to me.
Total die-hard fan. X-Men was the title that solidified my love for comics as a whole and was the first title I collected monthly. Loved the old cartoon. Hell. Even bought the VHS tapes of the first four episodes sold via Pizza Hut. Who remembers THAT?
reaverofsouls I did the same thing I got all of them and watch them while eating the Pizza Hut which my mother hated she despised Pizza Hut but I begged her just so I can get those X-Men VHS tapes ahh the memories of childhood such a simpler time no having to pay rent when you're only worried was finishing playing your Super Nintendo game or your Genesis game in time to get to school without being late and getting detention I must have played that X-Men Genesis game from Friday after school straight till Monday before school and don't even ask me about Final Fantasy 3 for the Super Nintendo I got a lot detention cuz of that game
reaverofsouls do you remember how the original Phoenix Saga episodes aired during the week at like 3 I had to set my VCR to record cuz I would ride my bike home from school at that time and it took me about 45 minutes and I didn't want to miss a single second of it those were the only X-Men episodes I taped with commercials the rest I taped on VHS and would pause during the commercials I still have all those tapes of every single episode
Still own my pizza hut copies baby! I always wondered why there were animation discrepancies between the pizza hut vids and the original cartoon, this vid seems to have answered that, (PH version is probably the non-fixed version)
Iona Morris, was the first actress two play Storm. She was Storms voice through season 1 and most of season two. She also did Storm on Spiderman. She was my favorite voice for Storm.
Both the actresses did incredible jobs. However, I think Sealy-Smith wasn't given as much to work with, as shortly after she was brought on board, Storm sort of faded into the background.
#NickCulton I agree!!! She’s more believable as the voice for Storm, especially when she yells at Wolverine and Gambit. Or in Spider Man: “Boys, boys! Can’t we settle this quietly?”
I loved it!!! Thanks for this! I'm a really big X-Men fan and this 90's series actually takes me back to my childhood all the time! So, to me, there is no cartoon like this one, not even Wolverine and the X-Men.
"Nightcrawler happened to be my all-time favourite episode of that series... because it had Nightcrawler in it. The show was great, but they should have had more Nightcrawler. 'Nuff said!
Batman-the animated series rightfully gets a lot of praise. But I think the people overlook this X-men series. I enjoyed it just a much and I think it's criminally underrated by many people.
Nightcrawler was always my favorite. I remember being so hype when I saw the preview for his episode when I was a kid. Think it was around when Venom was going to be in Spidey as well. Was an exciting Saturday morning for sure. Still one of my favorite episodes to this day.
Why? He made great X-Men movies and helped get the superhero wave rolling. If you didn't like X-Men: The Last Stand, he didn't direct it. The only X-Men movie that he made that's considered bad is Apocalypse, other than that, he has a great track record.
My FAVORITE show of All Time, I wish it would make a comeback. Every Saturday Morning I was in front of the Tv ,refused to miss an episode. This should be MANDATORY source material for Xmen movie writers and DIRECTORS.
I had a really dark childhood but this was one of the highlight of many Saturday mornings for me...thanks margaret Porsche and ofcourse Stan The Man Lee, I might not even know how to read if not for comic books, I spent countless hours escaping and building a moral compass from comics. much love and respect, always.
This show really pounded the idea of multi-part episodes into the dirt... Twelve 2-part episodes, two 4-part episodes, and one 5-part episode, making for 37 out of the show's 78 episodes, a staggering 47% of the total run! The words were so often repeated in the series due to it having so many multi-episode-spanning storylines, that even years later, many fans say they can merely just READ the words "Previously, on X-Men..." and hear them spoken in Cyclops' voice. ...you just heard it too, didn't you?
XMEN was one of my all time favorite cartoons. I went from he-man, to tmnt, to xmen.. I used to rent Pryde of the Xmen over and over agin wondering why there was no further episodes.. It even had an arcade game based off it. I too hated wolverines voice in it but that was an easy fix to what couldve been a great show.. I used to cut holes in my gloves and put knives in there to swipe at stuff like wolverine lol.
Correction on Fact 21... Stan Lee's artwork is credited as influencing the show but Stan's no artist, he's an idea man and writer. Jack Kirby created the art for the first X-Men comic.
Also find it kind of interesting that Catherine Disher who played Jean and Alyson Court who played Jubilee respectively played roles in back to back Resident Evil video games. Catherine as Jill Valentine in Resident Evil 3 (as noted) and Alyson playing Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2 and all other Resident Evil related games and movies involving Claire all the way up until Revelations 2, which for whatever ridiculous reason, they didn't include Alyson Court to reprise her role as Claire. I asked Alyson on her twitter and they said they didn't even contact her about it. What a dick move.
I always loved Jubilee.. I wish they had of used her storyline in the 2000 movie instead of Rogue.. and have Rogue as an established X men who comes back to help with the battle with magneto... and introduce Gambit somewhere in the movies as her love interest
It makes sense. Stan Lee always believed in letting his teams have creative freedom, only stepping in either to help world grow, or then step in if something was going horribly wrong.
Thanks for mentioning the theme song that's what I use as my ring tone to this day. most video's like this don't mention the theme. When I want to be kinderstruck I play it and the day just seem to brighten up. You made my day today thank you.
I can't really say I've decided who my favorite X MEN is but I do remember the cross over between this show and Spiderman. I also remember that Spiderman had a cross over with Fantastic Four and I actually thought it was a real interesting twist to actually see Victor Von Doom as a good guy rather than a bad guy.
To each their own. But my favorite from the Animated Series would be Storm. Love manipulation of weather and it's 10x better than the movies. Storm in the movies was more of a weakling. But if I had to choose one above Storm it'd be Rogue. From the accent and Miss Marvel's power, she was just great.
+amaris lott I never heard it because it was made way before I was part of existence, my brothers watched it though. So did my friends... I sometimes feel dum when I'm the only one who never heard heard of a video game/anime/cartoon.
This was amazing! I've been looking for more info and production facts about this series. It was clear there was so much care and passion put into this show that I thought there had to be some interesting tales behind it and this totally delivered that story. Thank you!
Swear this was the best X men show ever. I wish Beast was big like this in the movies. I can't watch to get my opportunity to work on something like this
When the animation team AKOM turned in the first episode, it contained hundreds of animation errors, which AKOM refused to fix. Because of time constraints, the episode was aired in an unfinished form. The second episode was turned in just before deadline, with 50 scenes missing and only a single day reserved for editing. Really good job Akom. exactly what i expected when i heard in this video that they outsourced the animation to a different country 8000 kms away and in the nineties no less, where i would imagine the finished tapes or digital medial would have to be physically transported across the nation.
In the 90s I was way more into X-Men than Batman TAS. I was even wearing a Wolverine shirt in elementary school. I'm so glad to hear that the first X-Men movie took so much inspiration from the show because it was great. And its great to see the X-Men still going strong to this day! To all the people who worked on this show in the past, thank you so much. You really helped shape my formative years and gave me some great animated television!
Additional factors I would like to add is that the X-Men animated series did add other non X-Men characters such as Dr. Strange during the Phoenix saga, Miss Marvel to explain how Rouge got her flight and strength, and Captain America during an episode when both he and wolverine teamed up during WW2.
Just finding this channel and enjoying it. Loved the X-Men Animated series when first aired; worked the night shift and would watch before work. One point in this 107 however re: Beast and his blind GF. DC did that with Ben Grimm (the Thing) and Alicia Masters (a blind sculptor) in Fantastic Four in the comics years before.
Honestly that one Cyclops episode that aired two years after the Phoenix ones really messed with me as a kid. I got so confused when I saw it the first time. Was it a new episode? Had my geeky little self somehow MISSED an episode of my favorite show? It was so perplexing. And it was before everyone had the internet so there was no way to figure out what was going on!
My favorite mutant from the show was omega red! He seemed so unstoppable. Until he was, ahem, stopped... Was awesome though. And the arch with rogue, nightcrawler and mystique was touching. And mystique and sabertooth and their mutant hating son... Mystique was busy!
Iona Morris was the first voice of Storm in season 1. Alison Seeley-Smith re-voiced the first season Storm later. You can still hear Morris' voice at different points throughout the series.
And X-Men '92 is super good. The first series is fairly self-contained (happens during a crossover event) but it drops part of (not all of) the camp for the proper run. Pick it up if you get the chance.
Batman:The Animated series got several mentions in the video, which is cool because it and XMEN were probably the greatest comic-to-cartoon adaptations of all time.
Gambit was my favorite character because he was so cool. My second favorite was Nightcrawler--even though he was not a main character in the series. I liked him because he was a kind but tragic figure.
though I was born the year this show ended, I love this show. I discovered it later and started binge watching it. It is one of my top 3 favourite shows, the others being 1. Avatar the Last Airbender, and other being Justice League.
for #22 you said "the art was heavily influenced by Stan Lee's artwork for Xmen Issue #1" and then showed the old team from the 60s, which was probably drawn by Jack Kirby and looks nothing like the show... but the art was inspired by artist Jim Lee's designs in the new 'Xmen' series from the 90s....
How can you be a FAN of X-MEN and not have seen this show, Every saturday morning I would watch it.... I rewatched it as a adult and wow it has deep plots, Only thing close was WB's Batman cartoon....
In reference to #43,. Chris Potter voiced Gambit. But he was also Peter Caine on the 1990s crime drama Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. He was also in a tv show called Silk Stalkings.
A correction to #44: In the video game X-Men: Children of the Atom and its "sequel," Marvel Super Heroes, Catherine Disher was actually the voice of Psylocke, who was a playable fighter in those games. While Jean Grey does appear in X-Men: COTA, she is not a playable character, nor does she have any voice samples. Disher was also an actress on the short-lived, prime-time, vampire-themed action/adventure/crime drama Forever Knight during the mid-to-late '90s.
This vid should also have noted the subsequent ' X-Men ' incarnations: " Evolution ', " Wolverine and... ", Etc., which had superior artwork, but not superior writing, so in that sense, there is another reason that ' XTAS ; was truly ahead of its time, as was ' Batman ', the only animated TV show surpassed it in quality...
I don't care how it was originally received, though it was my understanding it was pretty well liked and fit the animation of its time. I loved it and and after it went into syndication I would wake up at 5a to watch it Saturday mornings. The only show to make me do anything like that on purpose.
You guys need to do a 107 facts on the Thundercats reboot... and then find the Cartoon Network exec who thought it was a good idea to cancel it, and whip him with a wet towel covered in shards of glass for the next sixteen hours....
I really thought they were going to touch on the recasting of Storm after the first season aired, and how they went back and redubbed her lines for the DVD release.
Actually not to sound like that nit picker person saying you guys are wrong but more so a fun fact instead that the person who voices Wolverine actually came back for the EA fighting game in 2005. That was the last appearance of Catheral Dodd as Wolverine. Just the game is forgettable and I don't remember what it was called which is why I don't blame you guys for forgetting it. But when I played it it was quite nice to hear the best Wolverine back at it again.
I prefer the x-men animated series that looked way better, and was basically just the days of future past and Phoenix arcs. It also included kitty pride
When I watch this when it came out, I became a fan of Jubilee. She has moved to the number two position on favorites, since number one went to Penance/Hollow
Rogue was always my favorite. Her strength and vulnerability juxtaposed, a truly deep character. And I loved her little sassy personality.
And then she was boring in the movies 😕
@@Sirinaheart
Not gonna lie.
Until the hair color change in the end of the movie.
I never realised, that she was Rogue.
LightningLover that’s funny, going into those movies I had no idea who anyone was I later learned that was her after watching the movies a bunch 🙄 they did a bad job lol

Agreed.
Let’s go bub
"Inspired by Stan Lee's artwork"... Uh... No. Stan Lee was Never an artist. He was a writer and creator.
The original X-Men were designed by Jack Kirby. The Animated Series owed its design style more to John Byrne, And maybe a bit to Jim Lee.
Yes, exactly. This video said that "Stan Lee's artwork" inspired the cartoon.
Yeah they meant Jim Lee
Um, either way artist are creators so Stan Lee is an artist.
Hail to the KING.... KING KIRBY that is.
Total die-hard fan. X-Men was the title that solidified my love for comics as a whole and was the first title I collected monthly. Loved the old cartoon. Hell. Even bought the VHS tapes of the first four episodes sold via Pizza Hut. Who remembers THAT?
My mom had bought me those first 4 episodes at Sam Goody's back when they originally came out in 92
I still have them. They can't play but still, amazing. Also the interview with Stan Lee and, company is amazing .
reaverofsouls I did the same thing I got all of them and watch them while eating the Pizza Hut which my mother hated she despised Pizza Hut but I begged her just so I can get those X-Men VHS tapes ahh the memories of childhood such a simpler time no having to pay rent when you're only worried was finishing playing your Super Nintendo game or your Genesis game in time to get to school without being late and getting detention I must have played that X-Men Genesis game from Friday after school straight till Monday before school and don't even ask me about Final Fantasy 3 for the Super Nintendo I got a lot detention cuz of that game

Hugh Jackman is not Australian doing a fake American accent. He's an Australian doing a fake canadian accent.
!!! Thank you !!! we aren't often on patriotism patrol, but when we are, it's comic book based, lol :)
Lumpy Hippo Canada is America
Patrick Lee Canada is near America but is a totally different country

Yes , thank you , I'm a canuck and I have Logan pride here ! 😆🖤
Kelsey Grammar playing Beast in the movies was brilliant.
Jean Grey. She will always be my favorite. With Storm as a close second. I must have watched the Dark Phoenix arc in the show a million times.

Man I remember being A teen comic nerd watching this show on UHF and being thrilled that even with all the static and snow that the X-Men were on TV.
"Nightcrawler happened to be my all-time favourite episode of that series... because it had Nightcrawler in it. The show was great, but they should have had more Nightcrawler.
'Nuff said!
I would like to thank Margaret Loesch for her amazing fight to make the X-Men the Animated Series so amazing.
I didn't know about this until this list. Thank you, Margaret Loesch. So much.
Batman-the animated series rightfully gets a lot of praise. But I think the people overlook this X-men series. I enjoyed it just a much and I think it's criminally underrated by many people.
Gambit and Rogue best comic couple!
They just got married this month in the comics.
They replaced it with iceman lol.
Nightcrawler was always my favorite. I remember being so hype when I saw the preview for his episode when I was a kid. Think it was around when Venom was going to be in Spidey as well. Was an exciting Saturday morning for sure. Still one of my favorite episodes to this day.

...you just heard it too, didn't you?
Stan Lee's artwork? Stan Lee never drew a single issue of Xmen. You might have meant 90s artist Jim Lee
I paused the video as soon as I heard that to see if anyone else caught that error.
+Leslie “Hap” Hapablap yeah me too... Should be Jim Lee's artwork (pertaining to the 90s X-Men look)
I thought about that too, they didnt give a single shoutout to Jim Lee
i was so upset when i heard that i paused and said to my girlfriend "i'm so mad right now"
It's just that Stan Lee is much more recognizable then Jim Lee. It's sad. But true.
XMEN was one of my all time favorite cartoons. I went from he-man, to tmnt, to xmen.. I used to rent Pryde of the Xmen over and over agin wondering why there was no further episodes.. Seeing the premiere of the 1992 X-Men as a little kid was like a comic book nerd's version of the Apollo 11 moon-landing.
The japanese opening and ending are really cool it makes me wish that the actual X-men anime had been produced in a similar style.
Yeah I wish that would have happened but I only would add a bit more of rogue in the intro
Who is the best character from X-Men?
Hard to choose

nightcrawler

I can't leave enough thumbs up! I loved this show as a kid. My favorite characters were Gambit, Rogue, and Wolverine. I was 8 when it came out.

" The Uncanny X-men"

Agreed!
I really thought they were going to touch on the recasting of Storm after the first season aired, and how they went back and redubbed her lines for the DVD release.
Who else would love to see a 107 facts about Swat Kats?

That theme song is still the most badass until this day.
