HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM CHINA!! 💥
This year is the year of the tiger! It is customary for all Chinese people to travel to their hometown to celebrate this festival with their family. Most workers get a week or more off work. It is the biggest festival of the year. This year, February 1st is the 1st day of the new lunar calendar year. There is usually a big meal on that day. The main drink for men is baijiu, it is a strong rice-based spirit (and it is no joke, trust me!) Elders often give red envelopes with money inside to the newlyweds or children. The adults often play mahjong during the days.
We are in Angela's hometown for the next week or so. We have two weeks off work. We shot this and the next several youtube and patreon videos before we left because we don't have much time for shooting videos during this time.

In music, syncopation is a placement of rhythmic stresses or accents where they wouldn't normally occur. This is done with anticipations (notes played ahead of the beat) or suspensions (notes held over and moving after the beat). This song has a lot of syncopation in the guitars, and even has it represented in the dancing in some places (the dance is ahead of or behind the beat).

"Syncopation" is a really good song (one of my favorites without any doubt). One of their best overall, in my opinion. And that ending is just perfect.

Welcome back & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。This song reminds me, an aged Japanese, of good old songs to which I listened many years ago at home sitting in front of a TV. BABYMETAL, however, gave a new power to this type of song. That is one of the magics they have. In 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN concerts that completed on April 15 last year, I witnessed this song beautifully performed on Feb. 16 & 17 at the venue. When the intro started, my heartbeat went faster.
Good one - as mentioned a couple of times in the comments already, this has so far been played live outside of Japan just one time ... those of us at Brixton to experience it count ourselves as very lucky and blessed by the Fox God.

I have to agree, I've yet to see any "BABYMETAL isn't Metal" argument that really holds up.
This song might have the best blend of electric guitar and Su's voice in their entire collection.
It's certainly right up there.
For years this one had only been performed in Japan.
Finally, at the O2 Academy Brixton concert (July 2nd, 2019) it was on the setlist.
That's still the only time it's been performed outside of Japan.
'Syncopation' was on the Japanese (domestic) only release of the 'Metal Resistance' album.
'From Dusk Till Dawn' was on the international release.
They did later add it to some of the international streaming services like Spotify.
in my opinion, their music can be most competently described as a multi-genre style based on metal sound.
I think that's what metal is all about, honestly.
Like, Jinjer is metal with jazz and raggae influences, Epica is metal with opera, Rage Against the Machine is metal with rap, Sepultura is metal with tribal music, Death is metal with jazz/blues, Ghost is metal with gospel/church music, Ne Obliviscaris is metal with baroque and so on, but they're all described as metal.
I don't disagree with you, but I think it's just as accurate and easier to just say Babymetal is metal.
Babymetal is the genre. Metal instrumentals with j-pop verse and chorus structure plus fusion and mix of all metal types and other music genre.

if you watch any of the guides to Baby Metal you will learn so much more about them, such as the name Baby Metal is a new form of Metal not because of the age of the girls, and as far as the haters who say they are not Metal I am pretty sure bands like Korn, Metallica, Dragon Force, Slip Knott and so on have a very different opinion on them and accept them in the metal genre not to mention some of these bands have worked with them on making some of their songs, so the haters can either get with the time and move forward or stay stuck in the dying past
When they were told in an interview that many do not consider your music to be metal, how do you feel about it. They replied that they have their own way and their own style. And it doesn't matter what you call it. So they never wanted to be metal.. or pop... or anything.
It's all just patterns they want to break
Yep, it's not pop, and it's not metal. It's Babymetal. It's easy to get hung up on those definitions. I used to do it myself and I'd defend them against the 'It's not metal' crowd. Eventually, I thought who cares?? Just enjoy the music.
One of my favorite songs from BabyMetal...can't wait to hear what they have coming after they return.

Ignore gate keepers. Baby metal is most definitely metal. They came here to America for a festival show and I was there. Everyone was moshing like crazy to them and most people had no idea who baby metal was at that time lol. This happened in North Carolina.

BABYMETAL are simply awesome. I was at that Tokyo Dome concert (both nights) and it was totally EPIC!
BTW: The name BABYMETAL actually refers to the new genre they created - ie it’s new and a baby. It’s easy to assume that it referred to the girls, who were indeed babies when they started out! 💕

A singer from a band from Taiwan (Cthonic) gave the BABYMETAL girls red envelopes with money in them as a New Year present. It was cute how Moa kept looking in the envelope to see if there was any more in that she might have missed the first time.
So a big problem for a long time in the metal community is gate keepers. Babymetal gives lots of people a nice easy path into metal. It's genre bridging the same way nu metal was, and that brings out the haters. People feel like this is somehow "taking away" from the stuff they like, much the same way boomers think anything even one iota different than what they group up with is "the end of murica".
So true, if it wasn't for BABYMETAL I would have been introduced to Metallica, Bring me the Horizon, Judas Priest. All Metal bands that BM pays homage to and respect their style of metal.
So many other J-Metal bands with their own style of Metal, its so good.
But BABYMETAL is still my fav.
Babymetal kicked tired old metal up the arse, and a few closed brain halfwits couldn't cope with that.

There is something genius about the whole concept. The raw heaviness of the instruments, combined with the gentleness and vulnerability of the girls and the dance. It's one of the most innovative ideas, if not the best, of music in the last decade.

many other bands playing not "canonic" metal. Many ppl join metal with other genres. Babymetal doing pop+metal. Which is not bad. Because pop=easy for ears=more popular :) Its still metal, but with pop structure. And many ppl love it better than pure metal. And of course not everyone like pop-metal fusion. But it's impossible to please everyone. There will always be those who don't like it. Whatever you play.

listen, i'm an old school metal head who thinks mid~ 80's slayer, megadeath and Metallica were the peak of all metal that came before and since, i remember headbanging to metal in the mid 80's when people were rotting their brains on so-called hair metal. I've seen metal "genres" come and go, some i liked some i didn't like, but I never once heard these girls and thought "this isn't metal". Metal is rebellion from conformity, and if I, in my 40's ticking toward 50 can still say that, I want to know how old and out of touch and f-ing old and crotchety you have to hear to hear these girls and not think "metal"?
Found these girls a year or so ago, and i think they're something metal needs. Just like I thought those idiots screaming that metal-rap fusion wasn't metal were out of touch, metal exists as long as it touches the souls of people who want to NOT conform with the normal. Sure these girls are put together by a company, so what? Record companies have been doing that for decades, one of the great bands of the 90's was damned near a studio creation (Pearl Jam), that doesn't make Eddie Vedder's lyrics any less ponente.
These girls might have been originally destined for popstar or idol nonsense, but fate and someone who loves metal (and you can't tell me someone in that organization doesn't love metal, metal practically oozes out of every orifice of their performances) pulled this mess together and created something new. I don't' think "kawaii" metal will ever really be a mainstream thing, but if it opens metal up to girls, and young kids that's a great thing. And if it encourages metal acts to start to put some thought into their live performances that will be even better.
Having been to metal concerts since the late 80's I can assure you most of them make Spinal Tap look like a documentary. Serious metal bands with the worst stage acts you could ever see. The first serious tour for Disturbed could have been straight out of spinal tap it was so lame and corny. Disturbed is an outstanding metal band, but man was that live act awful (I haven't seen them in over a decade live so no comment on their current acts), like spinal tap awful. If baby metal gets these numb skulls to put some actual thought into their stage shows like those old 70's stadium rockers used to do, babymetal will have made an incredible impact on metal for that reason alone

Babymetal is metal. It's not organic or a "band". It's a highly produced product by an entertainment company in Japan. It's a show production at its core.
Yousei Teikoku is an example of a female j-metal band that predates Babymetal and is quite good, though they have not achieved as much recognition in the West.

You are correct about Babymetal's break through at Sonisphere in 2014. Band Maid MV "Thrill" in 2015 was possible because of Sonisphere. Miku Kaboto has even said they were the second Babymetal as a break through Japanese band.. Now Japanese Rock/Metal bands are touring in Europe and the US. Band Maid will be touring in the US this year.
