The song from this film; 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life', was sung by the survivors of HMS Coventry while waiting to be rescued from their burning, sinking ship during the Falklands Business.
From what I heard, everything after the guard snickered and he turned on him was ad lib and it worked so much better than what was originally going to happen that they just threw out the original.
Graham Chapmen had THE best poker face when it came to delivering lines like this. And even here you can see him just faintly begin to crack under the moment but he reeled it all in again. Apparently the whole cast was told that if they cracked and laughed they wouldnt get paid. So thats why they are all keeping it in so tightly, naturally they knew no one would last but it would make the scene all the more better as they each found other methods to try not to laugh.
It took me years to watch this film as I was never a month python fanatic but one night this was on TV and thought nothing else on and give it a go and said to myself what took me so long . Absolutely classic . Pure geniuses the python team . the spam song creases me up
If you enjoy wordplay with British accents one that's often seen as an exemplar of the genre is definitely the Four Candles sketch by the Two Ronnies. Ronnie Barker was an unparalleled wordsmith and the things he does with them always bring a smile to my face. Mastermind is another great one from them as it's one you as the audience have to concentrate on as well (Specialist subject - answering the question previous to the one just asked.)
The guys portraying centurions had the easiest acting job of their lives when the director told them to act like they were unable to keep themselves from laughing. I've no idea how they got through filming that scene. At a couple of points in the scene you can see even Michael is having trouble not laughing at his own lines.
You know what other acting jobs Charles McKeown (first guard to laugh), Chris Langham (guard pulling the face), Andrew MacLachien (behind Brian on the right) and Bernard McKenna (behind Brian to the left) had do you?
Why do you think this job was the easiest, between them the four actors played 12 different roles in the film, and scene 13 is one of the best scenes in any film, thanks to brilliant writing and fantastic acting.
If you also want to watch several classic sketches by Monty Python you could watch their reunion show in 2014. They performed a lot of their legendary sketches live in the theater. The show is called: Monty Python live (mostly).
Classic? I mean it is a classic, but it's pure counter culture... Classical would be "the culture Monty Python is making fun of". Like Ben Hur or The Ten Commandments or Sparticus. Silver Screen movies and all that hauty culture.
The funny thing is where he says "That would be me", really does look like it could be him! (and they even cover their mouth to laugh in the same way at the same time)
It was the Bishop of Southwark, Mervyn Stockwood, who with Malcolm Muggeridge debated the movie with the Python team - having got to the movie showing late, they’d missed the opening scene which makes it plain that Brian is not Jesus. This led to the hilarious parody debate on Not the Nine O’Clock News about the movie “The General Synod’s Life of Christ” - “This Jesus Christ bloke is clearly a parody of the Comic Messiah himself, Our Lord John Cleese - he’s even got the same initials, for God’s sake!”.
Even if it wasn't for the Beatles, and a very distinguished solo career, just the fact that he financed this movie is enough for George Harrison to make his way into showbiz heaven.
When this was released the county I was raised in banned it. We had to travel almost a hundred miles to see it. Utterly brilliant British classic. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
This film, together with Blazing Saddles, should be made compulsory viewing for ALL pre college kids! All the prejudices and bigotries could be put into context, in a single showing of both!

Life of brian great monty python movie ...everytime I see anything to do with monty python that bloody song gets stuck in my head .. Always look on the bright side of life.
As the last year in our school to have to learn Latin, this & the 'write it out 100 times' scene, totally resonates, too much. Don't know if taking the piss out of speech impediments is allowed nowadays, but this cracked me up - so Monty Python.
This movie came out when I was in high school, and there was MAD controversy because people who HAD NOT SEEN IT got their knickers in a twist because they THOUGHT it was making fun of the Lord Jesus. I was one of the few kids whose parents let them watch it, and I became really popular for a time telling other kids about the film. Eventually, some of them snuck off to see it anyway, then enough people also watched it, and the fervor died down. It remains one of my favorite films.
Exactly. The movie is NOT making fun of Jesus - there's even a short scene paying respect to him. The movie is all about making fun of the stupidity of humanity.
This is the British class war in satire. Many of the in-bread aristocracy had speech impediments and the working class would mercilessly mock them, behind their backs of course otherwise the consequences were severe.
Not only is the whole film hilarious, it's very precient too - watch the bit where the wicked webels are discussing a man's 'right' to have babies - very funny, and very true to modern life.
My favorite part of the film is where Brian is chased up a tower under and falls off - into an alien spaceship that is being pursued by alien, but hostile, spaceship. The whole scene is just so random and quick.
If I remember correctly, that scene was inserted as the Python gang did not have any idea how else Brian would escape from the Roman palace or that tower. As Star Wars was rather popular at the time they decided to go for a scene in which Brian accidentally falls into a passing spaceship. It is really random, it comes out of nowhere and then quickly disappears again and no one even mentions it.
@@TheDutchGhost the zinger in that scene is so good. random dude is standing before the tower, sees the whole thing, watches Brian come out of it unharmed, and says something along the lines of, "dude, did you get hella lucky there". could never pick the exact line cos I was in a burst of laughter
Funniest movie made by The Monty Python Team. Giggling, tittering, choking, belly laughing, until ambulance needed! Part of my growing up was watching these films. Hilarious!!!!
Monty Python's had a program that was skits throughout, but this is from a full length movie, which is hilarious from start to finish, as is their movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Funny note, I am from Montreal, Canada, and used to watch this show from an American Public TV Station that used to play it very late Friday nights. And it was the last show to air, and then they would sign off for the night (something all tv stations did back then.) What was funny, was that I would watch an hour of the funniest, silliest television, and the closing song (also hilarious), which was immediately followed by the announcement : "This has been brought to you by Vermont Educational TV." which made me laugh as hard as the show had. Every week, without fail. Just imagine hearing that right after watching the Lumber Jack song/skit. Almost wet myself a few times.

And I found even more. Soldiers were not informed about the joke, but the script predicted a few ways it may end, so all soldiers had a real reaction to the joke; only Michael Palin knew the script fully.

Once the soldier laughed, it was all improvised. None of this was scripted- xD
The song from this film; 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life', was sung by the survivors of HMS Coventry while waiting to be rescued from their burning, sinking ship during the Falklands Business.
Really? I thought they sang the theme song of JAWS! 🤣
That is one of my favorite songs!
And on the Opening Ceremony at Olympic games in London, in 2012...
I love improv where everyone including the camera crew is trying not to crack up, that's the best
Laughing is healthy, do it as often as you can. This showcases comedy in its purest form. Just great!
From what I heard, everything after the guard snickered and he turned on him was ad lib and it worked so much better than what was originally going to happen that they just threw out the original.
'You've all got to think for yourselves.' 'Yes, we've all got to think for ourselves.' Then 'What should we think ? '

Even John Cleese had to look down and laugh. Couldn't hold it in any longer. Lol
"Found this spoon Sir!" "Good work Sergeant!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Graham Chapmen had THE best poker face when it came to delivering lines like this. And even here you can see him just faintly begin to crack under the moment but he reeled it all in again.
Apparently the whole cast was told that if they cracked and laughed they wouldnt get paid. So thats why they are all keeping it in so tightly, naturally they knew no one would last but it would make the scene all the more better as they each found other methods to try not to laugh.
It took me years to watch this film as I was never a month python fanatic but one night this was on TV and thought nothing else on and give it a go and said to myself what took me so long
I just love the line: "wait till biggus dickus hears of this". Got me rolling on the floor every time😂😂
The guys portraying centurions had the easiest acting job of their lives when the director told them to act like they were unable to keep themselves from laughing.
Dude, you really owe it to yourself to watch the whole movie.
And also watch Monty python and the holy grail , hilarious!
this scene in particular has been making me laugh my ass off since the first time i saw it at 13 yrs old. the entire movie is brilliant.
If you also want to watch several classic sketches by Monty Python you could watch their reunion show in 2014. They performed a lot of their legendary sketches live in the theater. The show is called: Monty Python live (mostly).
When you yelled NO! I almost fell off my chair. LMAO
Imagine how many out takes there are for those scenes. My mum is in her 80s and still loves this film.
Life of Brian and Blazing Saddles are my two favourite films! I've watched both many times (and The Holy Grail too).
This is the classical era's equivalent of "try not to laugh challenges"
Classic? I mean it is a classic, but it's pure counter culture... Classical would be "the culture Monty Python is making fun of". Like Ben Hur or The Ten Commandments or Sparticus. Silver Screen movies and all that hauty culture.
@@Krackonis😑 You might want to learn your history a bit better...
@@Songfugel I was alive during it.
The funny thing is where he says "That would be me", really does look like it could be him! (and they even cover their mouth to laugh in the same way at the same time)
Watch the whole movie. You won't regret it. This and The Holy Grail make a nice double feature.
Thanks for the shout out brother! Guiness Worls Record Coming soon!
After the film was released the archbishop of Canterbury had a go at Cleese and Palin on tv, they promptly ripped him a new one. Nuff said
No, the Archbishop of Canterbewwy wasn't very amused at all
It was the Bishop of Southwark, Mervyn Stockwood, who with Malcolm Muggeridge debated the movie with the Python team - having got to the movie showing late, they’d missed the opening scene which makes it plain that Brian is not Jesus.
i crack up everytime. best comedic scene ever.nothing can beat it
A touch of bwavado, darwing doooo
Oh about 11 sir
40 years later this still cracks me up
This film, together with Blazing Saddles, should be made compulsory viewing for ALL pre college kids! All the prejudices and bigotries could be put into context, in a single showing of both!
The very first time I saw that, that's going back over 40 years ago, I nearly stopped breathing from laughter. 😂😂
I saw this movie at least twice when it came out in theaters years ago. Still one of my favorite movies. Hope you get a chance to watch the whole movie. Great reaction, thank you.
Life of brian great monty python movie ...everytime I see anything to do with monty python that bloody song gets stuck in my head ..
Always look on the bright side of life.
Btw, in Germoney he was called "Longus Schwanzus" what means "longus diggus"
I was laughing hard I cannot stop watching it over and over😅
The best money python film of all time. I never get tired of it
I will NEVER get used to this. I laugh my arse off every time.
As the last year in our school to have to learn Latin, this & the 'write it out 100 times' scene, totally resonates, too much.
Don't know if taking the piss out of speech impediments is allowed nowadays, but this cracked me up - so Monty Python.
On my top 10 films, hard to choose a fave scene as it is just one big laugh from start to finish.
Welease Woderick!! 😂 Fantastic movie.
The best Python film ever.. laughed from start to finish, must have seen it 5 or 6 times. Great reaction
These guys are completely creative. Absolute.
" He commands a crack legion..
He ranks as high as any in Rome."
Yeah... I bet he does..
😅😅😅😅😅😅
This is the British class war in satire. Many of the in-bread aristocracy had speech impediments and the working class would mercilessly mock them, behind their backs of course otherwise the consequences were severe.
i have seen this so many times and i crack up every time. this is so due to the fact the actors face is genuine.
Best Biggus Dickus reaction on the internet IMO.
Not only is the whole film hilarious, it's very precient too - watch the bit where the wicked webels are discussing a man's 'right' to have babies - very funny, and very true to modern life.
I love that u said 'I'm screwed'
lmao...'i.ll be fighting a dang bear in the mornin'...
The funniest scene of the funniest film ever made. Genius.
@@Varmer he says "Oh you lucky bastard"
The life of Brian, excellent film and ahead of it’s time
The origin of the "deez nuts" jokes 🤣
Well - it IS educational - "Here's what humor CAN be if it doesn't give a crap."
Although he sees some of the more obvious humour, I’m not convinced Highly Combustible quite grasps the more nuanced side of this classic footage😊
139 crucifixions today. Special occasion….Passover. LMAO
In the Monty Python film Life of Brian, there is a scene where Michael Palin (as Pontius Pilate) talks about a friend with the name Biggus Dickus, which causes several extras to crack up. In character and in a long, drawn out fashion, he confronts the extras and dares them to laugh while repeating the name. Palin himself nearly corpses, most obviously when he asks the guard if he finds it 'wisible' when he says the name Biggus Dickus. The extras completely lose composure when he mentions Biggus Dickus' wife's name is Incontinentia Buttocks. Ad-libbing like this was intentional to create an authentic reaction from the extras.
And I found even more. Soldiers were not informed about the joke, but the script predicted a few ways it may end, so all soldiers had a real reaction to the joke; only Michael Palin knew the script fully.
Every scene fromLife of Brian is a fucking hoot.
This was absolutely my favorite scene of the movie, being a huge Python fan. If anyone of you haven't ever seen the "Secret Policeman's Ball", I highly recommend it as well as the sequel.
The sequel was, naturally," the Secret Policeman's Other Ball ".
@@brianrodney712 Yes, I remember that, seen it as well. But it's hard to get hold of those. I'd like to have both of those Balls....and never let go of them. Unfortunately they're very hard to come by and I want them so bad. I don't know why those Balls are etched forever in my memory but perhaps they were so wonderful to enjoy. Umm....yeah.....I meant the SHOW...not the actual.....uhh....never mind.
@@cosmo2852 I appreciate your wonderful sense of humour !
@@brianrodney712 Thanks, I have my moments.
