Babymetal is a good study case. They achieved what most thought it was impossible. Even today people are surprised with the longevity of the band and the size of their fanbase. Open your eyes people.
The Beastie Boys always said Japan was their favorite place on Earth to visit because "Japan gets everything cool 5 years before the rest of the world does."

That is why when you dive into Babymetal music it is called, ‘falling down the foxhole.’ Babymetal and their fans are called ‘the one’.. So when you fall down the foxhole you become part of the one.
And besides the Fox God, the sign of the fox or kitsune was adopted because the girls didn’t know the horn sign 🤘 and every time they were asked to do it they did the kitsune gesture instead. Of course they decided to use that as part of their identity as a band

BABYMETAL's tickets are very expensive, around 7,000 rubles, so if they attract 10,000 to 50,000 people to the arena, the office will use the ticket revenue to build a big stage as you can see. The producer of Babymetal is an unusual person anyway.
The "fox hole" refers to the protective deity and inspiration of the band: the Fox God Kitsune of ancient Japanese lore.

The compilations are still live 😄. They take audio from one show then add footage from other shows as well. They can definitely be confusing for new fans. I'm sure some fans here will provide links to live songs from one show.
Imagine this:
For the third episode of their "Metal Resistance" they did a series of 3 big concerts, named "Trilogy", at 3 locations that form a perfect triangle on the map of Japan. The names of the 3 locations start with the same letters as their names: Saitama - Suzuka; Makuhari - Moa; Yokohama - Yui. Tetrahedrons and triangles everywhere and at the end of the third concert they even fly out above the audience in a tetrahedron. (See the official music video of "The One".)
Production of unknown scale.
Many scenes in this compilation video were from those legendary 3 shows. Amongst other big productions they had of course.
In 2021 the main singer Suzuka was ranked #6 of the best female metal singers of all time by Guitar Lobby. And "of all time" means she is by far the youngest on this list. Witnessing her live leaves no doubt she belongs there.

Some of the footage was from Wembley Arena of 20k+ ppl sold out show. So yeah, they are more popular than some ppl think when they first introduced to Babymetal. Heck, they're even ranked 10th as the most influential metal band of all time by Metal Hammer magazine last year.
Great reaction. They are simply incredible. This is a compilation with the music from the Wembley arena show in 2016 (I was there). As for the Fox hole. Foxes play a huge part in this band’s “lore”. Their signature song “Megitsune” means female fox or vixen. Kitsune means fox. The gesture they make with their hands is a cute fox sign instead of the traditional “evil” devil horns associated with metal music. Also they will often refer to the “fox god”. It’s just their “thing” The red/black thing was when they were kids but gradually disappeared as they grew older.
A bit of extra information, Megitsune uses the music of Sakura Sakura a very well known traditional song in Japan.
...also Yui Metal has been gone for 4 long years and 0ne the Lead guitarist's died from a fall at an observatory . All at the end of 2017.... bummer/ Still can't figure out why people are just discovering them now. Took me till Feb 2021 to find them I. Blame in on UA-cam's Biased algorithm 😡

A producer who came up with Babymetal wouldn't have expected it to work this far. Also, although the girls and instrumentalists were talented, they might not have been seen by people without this project. They are very grateful to be enjoyed and appreciated by people not only in Japan but also abroad.

No Rain No Rainbow live is an amazing ballad I sure you’ll love it!
1. Before they formed BabyMetal, they had never heard or understood metal. The dream of the three girls was to become an idol or pop singer.
2. Their stage is one of the best in Japan. An idol singer who has been to the BabyMetal Tokyo Dome concert once said that she had goose bumps from the beginning to the end, and her jaw dropped in surprise.

First, about the song this song is about kakurenbo a japanese version of hide and seek and tag but the tagger is an oni (Japanese ogre) if you want hear more about how good is Sue voice (lead vocalist) i would recommend one of her solo like rondo of nightmare (this song is about a dark version of Alice in wonderland but instead of being a dream it's a nightmare), or Akatsuki
Oni isn't just an ogre. Oni is used to name several yōkai. An Oni is a demon, orc, ogre or troll in Japanese folklore.

About the band, originally those 3 girls were idols of a jpop group called sakura gakuin, a group that had formed the production company amuse to teach girls between 10 and 15 years old about the world of music and modeling, the group's theme was a school and There were sub groups in the style of clubs from a school, the 3 of them were selected for the metal club because one of the workers of amuse (and their current producer) was curious about what would happen if you mixed metal and jpop, then the girls became interested in metal and they released their first singles which were so popular that some years later (when they graduated from sakura gakuin) they separated from the jpop group and decided to form their own metal band so they had to have live musicians for their first concerts then the kami -band appears (divine band) that is the band in most of their concerts and became part of babymetal, the girls started in the metal club of the jpop group at 11 and 12 years old then they separated at 14 and 15 years old, the girls are Suemetal (lead vocalist), Yuimetal and Moametal (dancers and back vocals)
If you want to see how they begun i would recommend doki doki morning, the music video (in that video they was 11 and 12 years old) was them very first song (was a metal song oriented to 12-15 years old girls, in one word is a very UNIQUE song)

Hi, others have already weighed in on this, but what the heck I'll throw my own twenty cents in...
You'll see a lot of references to foxes in Babymetal lore. There is a mystical entity in Japanese culture called the Fox God. It apparently began as a sort of helper spirit (or angel to us westerners), but over the centuries got promoted as any good employee who's been with the company for so long.
In any case, Babymetal have adopted him as their own. If you watch interviews with the girls, if they are asked a question to which the don't know the answer, they will say "Only the Fox God knows". Fox symbols also permeate the Babymetal stage show sets at various concerts.
In addition, they have a song called Megitsune, or female fox (vixen) which is about how women are perceived by Japanese society as being vixens.
Fun fact: During World War II the Americans considered releasing foxes into the Japanese countryside dyed in strange colours in order to unsettle the superstitious populace prior to an invasion.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the little sign they make with their hands is actually intended to be fox-like.

So, to answer a few questions (which may have already been answered but...)
Yes, this was definitely a compilation video of about 6 or more different shows (the 3 big Egyptian fox heads was Yokohama 2015, the big round center stage was Tokyo Dome 2016, the smaller round center stage was Budokan 2014, and there were at least 4 others...). When BABYMETAL were just getting started, they were actually a sub-unit of the J-pop Idol group Sakura Gakuin (there's a whole lot of history behind them with this included), and then they branched off to become their own entity around 2013. Around that time they were already making quite the name for themselves, but still they started playing for small capacity (like 200 tops) venues and the food stalls at festivals. They even had to borrow their costumes for their debut and proceeding MVs. Their parent company, Amuse, didn't begin to fully back them and provide funds until they had already shown that they could garner an audience.
As for the costumes themselves...they call them their Battle Dress (which is why quite a few of them had armor like decorations) and they project the image of cute but metal. Black and red (with silver) was the standard up until about 2016. Then they slowly started to bring in gold. 2018 saw the last of any red and they went full on with the black and gold with a complete Battle Dress image change, then 2019 saw the return of silver and another more mature Dress change. Their most recent Battle Dresses are a mix of black, gold metallic hues, and silver and sparkley gem work.
As for the Fox Hole thing...it's just the fans' special way to refer to the BABYMETAL rabbit hole. This comes from BABYMETAL'S lore of being chosen by the Fox God (Kitsune-Sama in Japanese, a metal deity for BABYMETAL specifically, but Japan has its own history and mythology that includes many references to foxes and Fox deities) to spread metal back into the world. If you noticed (or if you haven't yet) the symbol they make with their hands is not the Maloik sign (which is the traditional "devil horns usually associated with metal and rock in general) but a variation with the pads of the middle and ring fingers pressed against the pad of the thumb. This creates the sign of a fox in Japanese shadow play. It's said that when the producer showed the girls the maloik, they confused it for the fox sign. Some like to think that this is where the idea of the whole Fox God lore started but, as the girls would say "Only The Fox God Knows" (a catch phrase used frequently by the girls, mostly when they were much younger, during interviews when they didn't want to/couldn't answer certain questions).
The producer is a man by the name of Kei Kobayashi, or Koba-metal. He was a producer working for the Amuse band department, but was transfered to the Idol department when the demand for bands was falling. There he discovered Su-metal and thought that she had stage presence and powerful vocals that weren't typical to the pop and idol industry at the time. As a metalhead, he thought that with vocals like hers, she wouldn't be drowned out by heavy metal music, and he decided that she would be great as the front of a metal group. There's more to it, but soon after that she was signed into the Sakura Gakuin Idol group that was a newly created group under his management and the Heavy Music Club "BABYMETAL" was created.
Another thing, while in recent years, Su and Moa have had a much more active role in the song writing and choreography making, BABYMETAL has always had a dedicated team for songwriting and a highly regarded choreographer, Mikiko Mizuno (Mikiko-metal), for their routines. Even with this though, BABYMETAL'S songs have always been written in the way a typical band's songs have been written, and always with a mind for audience participation and the live aspect. Really it's like their studio tracks are appetizers for the full course main meal lives they give! Lol. Also, the guttural are usually uncredited (with the exception of one from their second album, Metal Resistance, that I can't remember atm), and are definitely not the girls.
Lastly, while the fans fully acknowledge and love BABYMETAL'S backing band, the Kamiband (kami meaning God or spirit, which is why they usually dressed in Japanese corpse paint and robes and are referred to as the Gods of their respective instruments), BABYMETAL is and always has been just the girls. Originally Su, Yui, and Moa. In 2018 Yui had to leave due to undisclosed health reasons, so now it's just Su and Moa. There is a lot of history to how BABYMETAL even started having a live band, but we'll leave that for later as this post is long enough as is. Lol

"Akatsuki"- Budokan Black Night(2014). Full on power ballad.
"Akatsuki Unfinished"-Legend 1997(2013). A piano acoustic version.
"Shine"-Legend M/Arises-Beyong The Moon(2019). A prog ballad that is the 2nd song in what's known as The Trilogy of Lights (the last 3 songs from the Metal Galaxy album that deal with loss and the feeling/stages of grief that comes with. Love the part "their studio tracks are appetizers for the full course main meal lives they give". I used to think that (and still do), but I've started appreciating their studio recordings more, maybe because now that all those live performances have been thoroughly baked into my memory, I can taste the essence of their music in the tracks without visuals.
@@tomosuganuma5808 I feel you on that! I appreciate them more and more recently as well...mainly because not all of the tracks are available live outside of YT or BR/DVD. I currently have a huge Playlist of every single track they have available on Spotify and frequently listen to it on shuffle and repeat lol! I will often skip over some of the studios if I know I have a live version, but am soo happy to have them outside of YT anyway. Every song but BBAB....T_T. I need it. Super badly lol!
It's also nice to be able to quickly go from the studio to the live and learn the subtle nuances and the real big differences between them lol!

About the "fox hole" thing: BabyMetal started with their own lore, and foxes are heavily part of it, the fox sign is their characteristc one and exclusively made by them, also you got songs like _Megitsune_ talking about kitsune (foxes), is an special and empowerment female song, you should watch that next. Also you will see many of their concerts with this fox theme, and they're big and no joke like you noticed, i guess having Amuse on your back got their goods. So the unlike the rabbit hole, we like to said that new fans fall into the "Fox Hole". But BabyMetal fandom got their own official name and that is *The One* we're waiting for you to join -NotACult-

The Fox is their spirit Animal so to speak. They are the hero's of the Fox God sent to earth to bring metal to the people. The Growls are on the backing track, they get like guest Growlers in the studio. Some of the footage was from the Tokyo Dome shows which was their biggest ones, they spend a lot of money on the stages cuz they put out DVD's, they probably even lose money on some of those super stage concerts but then release the DVD to make the real money.
The older they get the less red they have in their coustumes.

I recommend to react to BM's Rondo of Nightmare (live). It's about fighting depression and was published shortly after Yui left BM due to "unspecified health conditions". Maybe the most touching BM song with the best "light choreography" (the spotlights form the cage, the trap in which Su falls).
The foxhole is exactly what you are experiencing. Its this journey for first time listeners, as they keep digging deeper and deeper into Babymetal.

3 songs I would recommend you to hear ... One The One official version, then No Rain No Rainbow and lastly, Akatsuki, just to go into the Fox God lair .... In the case of Su Moa and Yui, they grew up as Idol in a school that this August closed forever ..... One of the best reaction to my loving Baby Metal! The lead singer Su-Metal is practicing her singing on a treadmill. Their music is produced following the Oracle from Fox god according to Koba-Metal, their producer. I recommend “Rondo of nightmare” at Budokan, “Road of Resistance” or “Awadama fever” ( This is killing and cute).
Great to see you back with more Babymetal, there is a lot to discover. Despite this being a compilation of different shows (the biggest one being the Tokyo Dome one with 55.000 fans on two consecutive days, yes, that’s right, 110.000 people came to see and enjoy BM there) I liked your reaction. There are not many ballads but the ones I can recommend is Akatsuki (unfinished) from the Legend 1997 show, No Rain No Rainbow (the best version being the Legend S show), Shine from the Legend M show. If you want to see more of the musicians check out Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of God intro from the Budokan show (it is a Su solo, so you got to see her full vocal capabilities as well). The fox hole is just a term we, the fans aka “The One”, created since it fits with the Babymetal lore that is all about the fox god :). Black Baby metal is when its just Moa and Yui onstage, singing their own songs, without Su. Check out Sis Anger and GJ.
It is no doubt that Kami Band is one of the attractions of Team BABYMETAL, but BABYMETAL only refers to the front three girls (now are Su- & Moa). And the relationship between the band members and BABYMETAL is a great.
As for this song, I think it is one of the most representative of the concept of BM, but if you know the lyrics, you will understand it deeper. The fans in the world understand it well too. At first I didn't like this song so much, because I thought it was too much, I could notice what it was trying to do, and it didn't surprise me as much as "Onedari Daisakusen". But now it's one of my favorite songs. After all, their whole live performance is great with sound, lyrics, and choreography.. etc, totally in one. It is not just cute, but they are brutal expressions in the breakdown. Thank you from Japan.

Su was a member of Karen's Girls when she was 8 and singing then. She was 13 when BabyMetal was formed after Karen's Girls ended.
The face of the 狐 kitsune (fox) represents the fox god. Other more specific names are e.g. 九喇嘛, Kurama or 九尾, Kyūbi : nine tailed fox. For more detailed/in depth information, checkout some of the interviews with the singers, tales/stories and documents. Though not 100% sure, I think fox hole is just derived from rabbit hole because of the fox masks/fox god, but they just mean the same thing. A few other Japanese metal bands (these are all female or have a female singer): Mary's blood, Aldious, Fate Gear, Yousei teikoku and Unlucky Morpheus. There is also a sub-unit of UM called Quadratum with violinist Jill as 'center' as opposed to Fuki for UM. Band-Maid is officially a hard-rock band, but they have songs that are close to metal.
How long it takes them to learn a song? Not as long as you think. All three have been conditioned and trained since they were very young and they learn dance moves very quickly. Don't get me wrong, they do practice alot, but not in the sense of learning from scratch. I had watched a video of them when they were still in Sakura Gakuin where they learned the choreography for almost a whole song (not a BM song) in less than half hour and were able to perform it roughly. It was really neat to see that.
But considering their age at the time, they work very hard to perform perfectly for their fans, and their sense of dedication to their fans is phenomenal. That's one of the endearing reasons The One loves the girls and the Kami Band so much.

About the fox stuff: The key song is Megitsune, the female fox (BM's second or third song, check the studio version, not one of the live versions). In Japanese folk mythology she has supernatural powers and can change herself into a woman. Megitsune is about female or more precisely girls' emancipation when changing from a child to an mature woman. It's full of references to traditional Japanese society and the narrow role it foresees for women: "We hide our tears, but our hearts cry. We play our role, but we are foxes (and have magical powers). Never underestimate a girl".
There is a cover version of Megitsune by Nemophila, one of the BIG Japanese all-female rock and metal bands (to start check their first song Raitei and compare it with "Dissension", published later).
Finally I recommend Band Maid to you (start with their first song Thrill and then go on to more recent songs like Manners and Black Hole).
In my opinion, nowadays these are the big three female bands: BM, Band Maid, Nemophila.

The band is known as Kami Band... all of the musicians are the sessionists, a true professional in the recording industry. The lead guitarist Mikio Fujioka (always smile when he plays guitar) passed away many years ago.
Some of the crowd shot are from Wembley Arena in the UK. Babymetal are bigger outside Japan than in it. It's just that it's all over the world, they have even played in Russia, but in Japan it's more concentrated, so seems more. By the way they call the UK their 2nd home and maybe the best place to see them perform outside Japan.
They have worn Black and gold for 1 show. Also all white for part of another show, one where the band trolled their fans, they had put out a romour that the band were splitting up and for the encore came out in all white, which in Japan can signify re-birth.
As I said in the last video they pay for it all themselves, but I explain why/how.
There is a Japanese band that used to have a female Russian singer, Blood Stain Child with Sophia Aslanides/Sophia Aslanidou (2010-2012), and is now in a band called Season of Ghosts based in the UK. To see her with BSC "20110821 BLOOD STAIN CHILD 01" (fan cam) or now Season of Ghosts - [MV] Listen. She also work with another band in Japan for a while called Yuzukingdom only for a couple of songs as the 2nd singer. the band was a mix J-pop singer and BSC, but that has now stopped. "Yuzukingdom - Eyes Shut Tightly".

I think you said it at the end.. "fall into another universe" I think fox hole is a play on rabbit hole.. like Alice in Wonderland where Alice follows the rabbit down a hole (aka falling into a rabbit hole) and discovers a whole world of fantasy things. Newcomers to babymetal fall down the fox hole to discover the fantasy of babymetal who are metal gods created by the fox god (as i've heard sumetal say during an interview). You can see the fox heads at the top of the stage background in several scenes. Also, when they make the \m/ metal hand signs, they put the fingers to their thumb and it looks like a fox head with ears.
The band are not part of Babymetal. Which makes it even cooler that they feature them at times and let them show off. Their last world tour they had Americans backing them except in Japan.

I’ve noticed the same thing about the stages even in the kpop groups… ppl who know nothing about kpop hear that and think it means it’s like pop music in the US but it’s in Korean… and while there is pop music by Korean artists… kpop has every genre imaginable and groups typical use storytelling in their music and there are groups that delve into darker topics and themes and the costuming and stages are INSANE:… it’s every little detail thought out very similar to this type of stage…. Honestly I’ve seen stages that could top this stage set up easily. I’ve been baffled by the amount of things I’ve seen from kpop… all genres of music… rock, hip hop, pop, classical, techno and others just do many groups do multiple kinds of music. I’ve noticed it’s a full production more similar to like Broadway and cirque de soleil and you would be baffled at the way they create these stages with concepts and visuals all accounted for… it’s crazy. Japan and South Korea I have seen the craziest shit …. There’s SO much going into every stage with all these artists and the artists work and train in the most insane schedules… like it would be borderline illegal in the US lol but this band def owns their stages 100%….

The "screaming" guy is from a backing track. I watched them during their europe Tour right befor covid stopped almost everything and had a good place right behind the mixing guy for the audience. On his screens were quiet some tracks for every song besides the phanomenal abilities from their band they had in europe and during this leg of the tour in general ( not the same guys they had during this live compilation video) to support the overall experience

You will probably get dozens of people explaining the 'foxhole' so I will explain this song which is my favorite. The girls are taunting a Japanese demon/troll type thing.
