  • The Great Migration in the Serengeti is one of the most spectacular wildlife events on the planet. This video was take a few days ago in Serengeti.
Watch large herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles migrate in search of fresh grazing lands and water sources.
Timing: All year round event but the timing of the movement is influenced by rainfall and food availability. It generally follows a circular pattern through the Serengeti and Maasai Mara ecosystems.
*Calving Season:* One of the most dramatic phases of the migration is the calving season, which typically occurs from late January to early February. During this time, thousands of wildebeest calves are born within a few weeks, attracting predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas.
*River Crossings:* One of the most iconic scenes of the migration is when the herds must cross crocodile-infested rivers, such as the Grumeti River and Mara River, during their journey. These river crossings are both perilous and awe-inspiring.
*Predator-Prey Dynamics:* The migration provides abundant opportunities for predators to hunt, making it an excellent time for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers to witness predator-prey interactions.
*Seasonal Movements:* The migration is divided into different stages based on the movement of the herds. They move from the southern Serengeti to the central Seronera region, then head west to the Grumeti River, and finally north to the Maasai Mara in Kenya before returning south.
*Cyclical Pattern:* This cycle repeats annually as the animals follow the rains and fresh grasses. The exact timing and route can vary from year to year.
*Conservation Significance:* The Great Migration is not only a breath-taking natural spectacle but also vital for the ecosystem's health. It helps distribute nutrients, control vegetation, and support a complex food web.
