Thank you so much for your kind mention Ben! I was so honoured to be able to help Ordinary Folk on that one and the other designer members on that project did a fantastic job! Such an amazing team :)
You've done it again Ben! I love how you get so detailed in what you like about each piece and explain a bit about how they accomplished specific parts of each project. Amazing!
@@BenMarriott Then please do. I would love to see that. This feels like national news but for illustrators. Haven't really seen anything like this before. I was glued.
Some pretty amazing work here! It's always good to be inspired by others work but not compare ourselves. I like to look at my past work and ask if I have improved since then.
Don’t forget that a lot of this is made by big teams with big budgets, who also have been working in the field for years. Can’t compare yourself to that.
Great video Ben. Nice shout out for Haewons illustration work as well. Having worked with her, I agree she is an incredible talent and a fantastic person to boot.
Thanks JP! It's always good to remind youself that these are done my teams of people, some with 2 dozen credits who are all spciallists in their field which might have taken months to complete, and not compare that to your own work that you'll likely be the harshest critic of.
@@toxibeet in any manner of ways. Could be that specific tasks are taken care of by specialists (illustrators illustrate, animators animate, editors edit and so on), or different sections might be handed to specific artists to work on. Or a combination of both. The larger the project the more granular specialisms will be e.g character animation is a specialism, visual effects is another specialism, compositing, art direction, graphic design, and so on.
@@btn237 interesting! I almost always work on similar projects by myself or animating somebody’s designs. But since lots of shots are smoothly transitioning one to another, I’m wondering how would two animators work on them… I’ve never worked in big studios.
@@toxibeet it’s definitely a challenge if all the scene transitions are seamless. I’ve actually undertaken such a clip where, even though there was only two of us working on the project, the work needed to be divided in such a way that we both work on all the scenes. In some cases there was no hard cut between scenes. It’s good if you can set a seamless project up in such a way where there are separate scene files, because most software is terrible at allowing two people to work in a project file at once (it’s certainly easier though if your software of choice is better at doing that). If you study closely you’ll probably be able to find locations in these clips where there could be a mask from one section to the next. Or they might be using similar tricks from live action to disguise edits in what appears to be one seamless take (lens flares, fast pans or other occlusions for example). On the project I mentioned before, those are the sorts of things we did, where you find way for one ‘scene’ to end and the next begin, with some overlap in the action and camera motion.
What a cohesive review! I love your analysis, showing what sets these animations apart and popping into Ae to show how some of the things are done. This is the best of your animation reviews, and the others were great, too!
So inspiring works. I didn't even move from my chair just not to miss anything. Really appreciated your collection and reviews on them. A lot of things to learn from this artist. Thanks
Thanks Ben, talk about eye opening. As a newcomer to all this it's truly incredible to see what can be done, even if I have no clue how to do it! That being said, if I want to have a sphere with animated gradients I can do that now so thanks! Hands down one of the most inspirational youtube videos I've seen of any sort in a long time.
I appreciated your old videos, but wanted to say I really enjoy your new format. Also appreciate you supporting fellow creatives and sharing their work. Keep inspiring!
You know what would be awesome? If you made a series of videos on how to make some of those outstanding animations - like you made with the gradient in this one. For example, how to make those texture lines. Could be an exact replication or just a technique demonstration
I love your videos and I am a huge fan, Ben! I was wondering if you could do a video where you talked a bit about time, how long different animations can take to do, and so on. How fast or long is it reasonable for a client to get something done, based on style, length and complexity of the product, if you are part of a team or alone.
Great video, such amazing animations - thank you for sharing them! I really liked the idea of Austin's live streams - is that something you would ever consider? It'd be good to watch an entire process in real time and see things that are often cropped out of pre-recorded tutorials, e.g. your process of figuring out how to animate something complex, watching your workflow in realtime, or seeing any mistakes made and how you handle them etc.
Resist the temptation to compare yourself. Just enjoy the inspiration and strive to do your next project as best as you can. With time you will be amazed, what you can accomplish 😘
There are so many great motion designers out there! Thanks for sharing. Do you think you'll ever do a video about exporting videos in ae. I'm having such an issue with it! Apparently not that simple
I swear Giant Ant and Ordinary Folks always produces top tier animations It's just so inspiring and makes me wanna get to know about the creative process behind those masterpieece Thanks for compiling these amazing works Ben, great jokes as always lmao

I think you misunderstood what spline is and does. It does not do any rendering in the cloud. All the computation runs in your machine. It is just a very simplified and limited 3D software that runs in the browser. If you think you're going to be able to animate complex scenes with this tool you are wrong.
How on earth do you make these in after effects? Some of them look like they were hand drawn. I'm stuck here moving scale and position of basic images and shapes...
hi sir i have a question please: in 3d softwares there is a shortcut (F) , when you navigated you're scene and accidentally you lost your stage (scene) you press it and it will jump (Focus) into it. or even if you select a layer of your 3d model then you hit (F) it will jump into that part . is there any same thing for after effect?
Watching videos like this makes me unbrarably depressed. I have been working as a motion designer for 8 years and I can't make something that's even 5% as good as what I'm seeing... I'm also not so young anymore. Fuck me...
