I got one of these stadium blitzers in 1993 i think it was (think it came out late 1992) - definitely had oil shocks back then. It lay broken (Mech speed controller) and dormant in my dad's garage from 1995-2021, when i finally revisited the hobby over 25 year later and fixed it with ESC and brushless, ball raced and new shocks and wheels/tyres. I cannot tell you how great it is to see one given such a high level of attention on this fantastic channel. Cheers Phil. For mine now i have done something odd. The ESc sits in the battery tray and the battery is strapped really far forward on top of the steering servo. Shifts the weight distribution forwards from that rear placed motor - better front grip, less mental wheelies! I let my 13 year old nephew have a go, he actually preferred it to the more modern 4wd truggy i have - that says something about this kit.
It's enjoyable to see the old Tamiyas out and about. The truck looks good and you're right about painting. Sometimes the Tamiya decals are more time consuming than painting.
Tamiya products are just so much fun to build. I finally just finished building my Tamiya Ford F-350 High Lift with MFC-02 light and sound kit! Always been my dream to build this one! So awesome!!! 👍🏻😁
As a lifelong Tamiya and Kyosho fan, its really refreshing to see a proper, high quality 1/10 scale R/C car on the channel. The $150 Chinese jobs are getting old.
That is a lovely looking truck! I know Tamiya rc’s are a bit behind tech wise but it’s the nostalgia that does it for me. Remember seeing tamiyas in my local Beatties when I was a kid and really wanted one but could never afford one!
Wow blast from the past... Had me a Stadium Blitzer when I was 15 and had a mechanical speed controller in it. That's when you had to pay extra for bearings or they'd include them as a bonus.... We've come so far as a hobby.... I remember getting my first Esc.. it went into this and everything snowballed from there.
Excellent content. As much as I want a Traxxas XRT, I need the nostalgic element of the build too. Stadium Blitzer is an all time favourite. Looking forward to see what upgrades you get into this. I may follow it with upgrades on a Blitzer Beetle (only because I get hold of a Stadium Blitzer).
excellent and you did a really smart build and managed to find some bearings for it, i have its cousin the Blitzer beetle and run a 20t brushed motor so its pretty quick maybe 26mph, look forward to you getting 60+ out of this old classic
3:56 20 yrs ago I bought a kyosho gas powered vr-01 corvette, I did some amazing painted on checkered flags on the sides and it took hours picking off all the little squares. I thoroughly enjoyed the process and the result. I don't know if I have the patience now for the tediousness of it. If I ever get it out of the crate I'll post a pic online. It turned out pretty freaking good.
Nice, you can do Tamiya's entire fleet as far as I'm concerned. I have the Blitzer Beetle version of that chassis, albeit I put aeration shocks on it, a brushless system and a Kimborough servo saver. It's a lot of fun. They pretty much got everything right with this chassis. Mines a re-re as I left the hobby about the time the Blitzer Beetle and Stadium Blitzer came about. I just finished building my BBX, there is a bit in that build.
I've got a blitzer beetle as well with a brushless system in it got a few videos up on my channel if you want to check it out have a good crash video 😂 hoping to get a bbx soon got the wild one in my sights ATM cheers 😎
These are great little RC's. They tend to break a bit when you go brushless. The best surface for those tyres is really short grass like at your local golf course. Nice one Phil 😁
Loving my Tamiya racing at the moment and currently loving a terra scorcher build myself. Looking forward to seeing what you have coming from Tamiya 👍🏻
Very, very nice! Love the contrast between white and gunmetal. Personally, I would have given RC Bearings UK a shout and got a whole set of rubber-shielded bearings, before the build. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
This model was my first proper rc. I don't remember it coming as a kit and it came with a mechanical speed controller and an old stick radio with a 27meg crystal. man those were the days...
Tamiya is how I got hooked on the hobby way back in the 80’s as a teenager when I bought the Monster Beetle kit. There’s just something very satisfying about building the car yourself piece by piece then getting the finished end result where you finally get to drive it. With that said, in todays RC hobby world, for me personally and just my opinion, which I’m allowed to have 😂 the allure of the cheaper kit cars doesn’t have as much appeal anymore. As old as I am now and as much as my eyesight suffers 😂 I wouldn’t be able to see half these little parts anymore. 🤣 So while I do still love and appreciate the “kit” aspect of the hobby, at my age it’s no longer for me. But with that said, I know a LOT of people still love these nostalgic cheaper kit cars of the past, because of what I already mentioned, the satisfaction of getting to build the car yourself. And it brings them back to the days of when we were kids when kit cars were all they had! Great video, Phil. I actually really like that thing. Wanna build one for me? 🤣🤣🤣
Monster Beetle of Tamiya was my childhood dream … actually every Tamiya as budgets to spend were limited. Parents couldn’t believe I would spend my savings on a toy. So I needed to go through Taiyo’s to end up with a QuickDrive Tamiya.
Tamiya are very good at making us older guys remember our childhood. I used to love building them, but I have no time really anymore. I have a 1/14 Truck to build.. it sure I’ll do that in under 2hrs 😅
looks awesome! i have just purchased 2 tamiya's in the past couple of weeks. i will be building them over the winter. picked up the candy green edition grasshopper and the brat. see you in the next vid! cheers. hopefully my builds will turn out as nice as the way you made that blitzer.
i didn't own a Tamiya, I had a version 1 Marui Big Bear - 80s monster truck that would eat diffs. But it would wheelie extremely easily, like a lot of modern brushless setups, on a 480 later a 550 brushed motor I ended up selling it before the version 2 bug fixes (all which I experienced). The only thing I really miss is that Datsun shell, but it was made of brittle plastic that apparently helped sink the company
I like the masking and decals of making the bodies. Pulling the tape etc.The cost of paint, spraying and praying I did it in the right order, not so much.
I built that truck it was called the HI-LUX not the 80,s version I got it in like 91-92 the Nissan King Cab was also identical except rims and body. That also resembles the Blitzer Beetle which was built on the Falcon chassis it can get confusing with America 🇺🇸 and Britain 🇬🇧 have like the same stuff with tiny differences like names. Great job as always 👍🏼🇺🇸🇬🇧
When I was a teenager I had the original version from the early 90s. I think I had a 10 turn in it. Seems like I upgraded the motor and spur gear. Don't remember for sure. I must have put 1000 miles on that thing. I went through and wore out 5 or so 7.2v nicad packs.
Yea dude that is the same as the (American) HI-LUX was the same as what you guys call the Stadium Blitzer. Was a great truck in the day had the Lexan body as well. And yes painting the body is not a fun experience in my humble opinion. If that is a Toyota it’s the same kit different name . Whatever I just never hear about the HI-LUX I built even the king cab is not really mentioned guess people don’t dig them I’m not a fan of the King Cab. Everyone have a safe and happy day 🙂👍🏼🇺🇸.
I remember my older brother got one of these back in the day. He had started working and I guess it was one of his first treats with his new found form of income. I had his permission to use it and used it I did for a long while til sadly it was put out of comission when I banged it against a curb. I think it broke a tie rod or something like that. It was a plastic piece in the steering. I always felt bad about it. He was moving on in life and never bothered to fix it. I feel more bad knowing now that it had to be assembled. Didn't know there were still some around. Might have to look for one now and gift him it.
My cousin and I bought 2 of these in 1994 brand new and took them racing at our club, they were good and were surprisingly competitive, especially in outright speed, but the turning radius was dire, absolutely terrible, so they were resigned to being toys for fun.
Yeah converted my 2wd ORV Blackfoot to 4wd but took me longer than planned and will probably have to wait now till warmer weather till the proper test run! It's killing me as it looks awesome but as some parts involved glue don't want to risk a cold run!
back in the early 90s all i wanted was a King Cab. older kid in my neighborhood had one and i just knew my life would be perfect if i got one. wound up with an Associated RC10T and loved that model but i never got that Tamiya i wanted.
Daaaaannnnggg Phil! This is the first video I woke up to this morning and it was absolutely epic! Only thing that would of made it better would of been a cup of coffee to go with it! ☕️☕️Cheers to a an awesome “not what you see every day build” and not leaving it on a shelf and getting it out there and playing with it! 🌟RESPECT 🌟👊🏼
That really reminds me of my old Tyco Bandit. 9.6 volts of 90's awesome that started my rc addiction. That the grass hopper and fast trax. I spent all my money and hundreds of hours on them.
Love the stadium blitzer.... been looking for a nib kit myself but there asking silly money for them. Definitely a monster racer vibe goin on. Another great video Phil 👍 Keep up the good work mate 🤌
I just missed out on a Michelin pilot cosworth that was local to me on market place, selling for £150 , the pilot was my very first rc ,it's all about nostalgia
Nice one, Phil - I'm glad you were able to find a new one at last. Congratulations on the sub 2 hour build time, and, like you, I think that the gunmetal grey you used instead of silver looks great - cooler, actually, than the box art. I was puzzled at the poor traction on that dry, loose dirt till I saw a close-up, back in your workshop, of the tread on those tyres. Montage heaven at the end (I'm glad that you did find the camera!)
Just ordered first rc basher, HBX 16889A PRO. What to do with it to ensure everything works mechanically the best? Greasing diffs? All around check everything is tight for sure but any pro tips before going out and trying to break it?
Awesome video and awesome looking truck i have 4 tamiyas they are awesome king yellow 6x6 super clod buster grey edition vw rally beetle and a monster beetle black edition tamiya is an awesome company just to bad they don’t hive us bearings in the rerelease of some kits
This is on my wish list hope you raffle it. I have this chassis as blitzer beetle original release also a re release that I have 2s brushless set up in.
Can you please do a video on a blitzer beetle? I just got one for my father for Christmas and am already looking for upgrades for him but am having a hard time finding any decent videos of it let alone upgrading it

Yes because nothing screams “high quality” like plastic bushings…

For people who cannot afford to buy Cars n trucks all the time we really enjoy buying bodyshells and creating a new look(livery) for our RC'S 👍
Best. Spinning Tire. Transition. Ever. 😮 Looks amazing dude!
This Tamiya was my first decent RC car when I was 13, 31 years ago. Built a few nights with my father. Will never forget it.

My '94 original had oil shocks mate. Still have it here now. Replaced loads of parts to get her back to almost new :)
Nice! Ahead of the game in ‘94!

Wow!😮I thought I'd never see this particular model again!! I had this same model in the early 90's, when I was stationed in Germany 🇩🇪
This is the one that got away, for me. I sold my Stadium Blitzer in 1997 and I've regretted it since. Lovely truck.
Always loved the Blitzer. This video proofs what a cool little buggy it was, goes great on the dirt.
Also obviously this is the No1 RC Channel :)
Yes, the Blitzer is a good looking truck
Love it, can't wait to see it with some power! I've got a cheap 3s system in my Blitzer beetle. It's great fun
I missed out on the old Tamiyas. Looks awesome matey and a great paint job. Love that Gun Metal.
Very, very nice! Love the contrast between white and gunmetal.
Personally, I would have given RC Bearings UK a shout and got a whole set of rubber-shielded bearings, before the build. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Yeah, the grey actually matches the stickers. I put bearings in, they are the standard size ones, I have about a million of them.
I must be crazy then. Definitely enjoy painting bodies. HATE cutting them out though.

So foams, and a big brushless.
Old school. More of this please!
Tamiya NEEDS to bring this great little kit back!
Yes and you would think with re-releasing this they would do the Falcon too seeings it's the same chassis
ESC is the bonus part along with the pinion. My OG came with a mechanical speedo. My favorite basher of all time.
The re-release came with an ESC
My favourite was the Tamiya black foot it is a great truck
