You forgot about the poor, humble Dryad Arbor! Both the only coloured land, and the only creature that gets played rather than cast!

Oh Yeah! Oops. I even thought of it while making the page of "cards with multiple cards type" and then forgot it was the only colored land.

@@WilliamBenjaminJohnDavis I was thinking it was a little bit of a shame you didn't briefly pop up a picture of a land with the rules text of lands printed on them, but I do completely understand why.

It was actually in the original slide deck but got removed in favor of the mocked up "tap: add gree" slide.

This... was needed. I've been fine with the newer designs, but that's cos I was always the 'stack guy' keeping track of everyone's triggers. I can't do that for everyone anymore.

The 4-of rule that applies to most constructed formats does not apply in limited formats. In draft or sealed if you end up with 5 or more copies of a card you can put all of them in your deck if you want to.

    Errors and Corrections:
    Thanks David Dougall:
There is one card, "Dryad Arbor" that is both a land and a creature. It is green (due to the green circle in it's type line) so I was not correct when I said there are no lands that inherently have a color. There is exactly one.
    Thanks Jade Cat:
When discussing the mana value I say something along the lines of /This “Forest” has a “mana value” of zero so it cannot be “cast”./ which is inaccurate. The "mana value" is zero on Forest because it doesn't have a "casting cost". Forest can't be "cast" because it doesn't have a casting cost. There are many cards, for example "Kobolds of Kher Keep", that have a "casting cost" of 0 and can simple be cast any time it would be legal to do so.
There are also a number of non-land cards without a "casting cost". In these cases the "mana value" would be 0 but you would have to use some other game rule to make the card do it's thing. Notable examples are "Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar", which has an "alternate" casting condition and "Ancestral Vision" which can be suspended instead of being cast directly. Worth noting that there are a number of ways to make a card "do it's thing" that don't fit cleanly into the "play" or "cast" pigeon holes.
As pointed out by Drew, "Tribal" is technically a card type.
As pointed out by Kayoscape ( see the comment for details ) there are many cases where what is being printed on a card has changed over the years or has been switched up for some kind of special printing. I would say a good Rule of thumb would be to refer to the most recent printing's entry on Gatherer for gameplay purposes. It could be argued that these types of things are relevant to collectors too I suppose.

Good start for a primer. I have some corrections, most of which have already been stated by other commenters. However, there are a couple more I will mention:
Older cards may have limited or missing information about the set, printing, and/or rarity. A forest from some of the earliest sets will only show the artist credit with no additional information or set symbol. More information was added as these sets progressed, next being the set symbol (which was not initially colored for rarity) in Arabian Nights (1993), then the date of the printing in Legends (1994), then the set number and set symbol rarity colors in Exodus (1998). The set code, rarity code, and language code would be added during the second frame redesign for the Magic 2015 core set.
Most rarity symbols will be black/white (commons, basics, and older cards of any rarity), silver (uncommons), gold (rares), or red/orange (mythics). However, set symbols have appeared in one other color: purple. This has so far only been the case for "Timeshifted" cards, which include old-bordered cards reprinted in Time Spiral with oracle text, as well as more modern cards reprinted in Time Spiral Remastered with the pre- Eighth Edition border.

Cool vid, one minor issue I noticed was that Tribal isn't a supertype, but a card type itself. You might see this come up occasionally in modern if you're playing Jund vs Eldrazi Tron, since All Is Dust counts as both a sorcery and a tribal for growing a tarmogoyf. (You can also see in the reminder text of tarmogoyf that Tribal is considered to be a card type.) It's a bit weird since it behaves the same way as a supertype in most cases, but for whatever reason when WotC made Future Sight/Lorwyn they decided to make it like this.

There was a reason for making it a type instead of a supertype, but it's a really lame one rules wise and they could have just changed the rules for Tribal. The reason is that only card types can have subtypes associated with them, and Tribal always requires a subtype.

Very fun video! One small nitpick though - it's not having a mana value of 0 that prevents lands from being cast, but not having a mana cost at all. Kobolds of Kher Keep can be cast all you want.

Despite knowing all the information included in the video, this was interesting to watch. I suspect that it's probably far too overwhelming for anyone that isn't at least slightly familiar with the game.

      Thanks!
I was hoping people like you would be able to enjoy my video... but I think the person I had had in mind when putting it together was someone who has a general idea of how MTG works and has maybe been talked through a few tutorials or games or whatever and still feels like they don't know what's going on. I also tried to keep it short and interesting so that an absolute beginner would be able to get through it...
I've found there are topics, like MTG, where a bunch of different moving parts of required knowledge hang off of each other... so you start with the firehose of information and then build on whichever parts you've managed to absorb.
I don't know... I also just kind of made it the way I felt like making it... It's basically my previous very silly video "Bat Presentation" except about a Basic Forest... *shrug* ... anyways, thanks for watching and especially for your feedback!

It is. It's not basic enough, as someone who just decided to get into MAGIC, I am very confused.

Very good script. I think your mic may be too close to your mouth when you are speaking, which is what would typically cause the mic thudding noise when you speak into it.

Thanks so much! Very happy with how the script came out too! I hope there's more than one of those in my brain ready to be written.
I noticed slightly more... thudding as you say... in the second half of the recording session so I think you might have identified the problem... I was actually using a handheld microphone* and so I probably moved it closer and closer to my phase over time.
*(the one that came with PS3 "Rock Band"... it's the best audio quality mics I own.)

I know my kid got a good mic and pop-filter for their birthday last year... maybe they will let me borrow it.

i have to second this, its a great video on content alone but the popping makes it difficult to sit through. which is a shame because i want to listen to what you have to say :)
