Long story short: I made the first one because the idea was inside of my head and I needed it on the outside of my head... I made the second one because people seemed to like the first one. Long story long: I think the inspiration was watching a video by Team APS video titled "Yu-Gi-Oh Players Guess Good Magic the Gathering Cards Are Out of Context" ( ua-cam.com/video/h0yUnNJ-K5Q/v-deo.html ). They asked how lands worked and in my mind I was like... "uhm... the non-trivial answer to that question is surprisingly complicated." That thought sat in my head for a while and one day, after making some fake Sliver cards and posting them to Twitter and not really having anyone engage with those tweets I was like "I need to get some followers who are interested in Magic: The Gathering so that people will like my dumb Magic: The Gathering tweets... when the Magic: The Gathering content creators I follow because of UA-cam tweet about Magic: The Gathering they often get a bunch of engagement... I should make a UA-cam video and then tell people in the video to follow me on Twitter!". I started with the premise of "How to Read a Magic: The Gathering Card" and as I was thinking about and writing the script I had in mind that it should be focussed so (remembering the Teams APS video) I decided to start with a Basic Land. When I was finished with the draft script and was putting together the slide show it felt like I needed to give it a title card and thought it would be funny to call it "Episode 1:" implying I would be making a separate video for every card. When I got to recording and editing I decided "Well... I might as well frame it as a series in case I come up with another idea". For some strange reason... The Algorithm found the first one and started reccomending it to people... and it got the most views and engagement of anything I'd ever put on UA-cam before (well... I think a Minecraft Mod Review might have gotten more in total... but this was certainly the fastest). I decided that it would make sense to make at least one more to thank everyone for watching. Having already referred to the "Reading the Card Explains the Card" thing I have "Questing Beast" on the brain so went with that (though I did start writing a script about formats and another about paying costs before settling on the idea). Anyways, I am so glad people are liking them... I made a poll for what to do next that nobody has voted on yet LOL... twitter.com/sinbadev/status/1569814022723366912 because I have a few ideas and partially written scripts.
I am going to accept this compliment with the following caveat: either I know what I'm doing or I am so good at faking it that the end result is indistinguishable! Thank you!
