I've got to say Elliott, I'm loving your watch building videos. I would love to get into doing this myself but alas as a 55 year old disabled man I would find it too hard to not shake. And also I couldn't afford it now so watching you is the next best thing. I hope you continue doing this type of video. Keep up the good work... ⌚
You can do it even with shaky hands! Buy a stick of rodico for help and get after it! The result is very rewarding, I did my first two builds recently!
I definitely prefer the live style! you have a knack for creating a chill atmosphere that feels like we're just hanging out with you while you're working on something, and your live reactions to how it looks at each step add a lot to the experience too. I did still enjoy this as well though!
Elliot, we need a setup tour. Your rig, cameras, how you get those suuuper close and crisp shots, the lighting. All of it! Fun following and seeing the quality and professionalism basically increase with every single video! Also a fan of the voice over, but I do prefer the live audio and getting the live reactions and your immediate thoughts during the process.
Huge fan of these builds, I really wasn't sure when I first saw the dial. However!! Once built, it looks awesome!! I think I prefer the live commentary, you really hit a flow state and your excitement and enthusiasm is electric. Really infectious. Either way though, I'm really enjoying the channel. Best wishes, G.
The live style of video for me is much preferred as someone who was inspired to start doing this bc of these videos and appreciates seeing the process of someone who has more experience
I think how you did this video is the best. It let's you concentrate on the build and then gives us a quality voice over. Also love the space theme of the watch.
@@dodgydruid Only the hour wheel is exposed on an NH35 though. I'm not totally disagreeing with you, just trying to make sense of it. It would seem that having a dial spring between the dial pressed against the hour wheel would in fact add more friction, no? I understand that on movements like the NH34 a dial spring is required, hence why they generally come with one, but not the NH35. This is because the GMT wheel can slip off and skip teeth, the dial spring adds a little force to keep it in place. From what I can tell.
I can't post links but I found the technical guide for the Caliber NH3 series from Time Module Ltd. (Seiko) and it prescribes a dial spring only for the NH34. It's the first result on Google if you search "seiko technical guide NH35"
@@dodgydruid the dial washer is there to prevent a loose hourwheel from lifting and skipping teeth. Since the NH35 has the date jumper covering the hour wheel it is not nessesary.

Mr C, to make second hands a breeze, get the soft plastic tube from an old biro, wash out the ink that is left behind and cut off the metal end and use that by putting the longest part of the second hand into the plastic tube that is clear of ink staining, the hand pipe will stay fairly downwards once positioned and it just makes life oh so much easier...

Watched a few of your videos building watches with AliExpress parts a few days ago, and yesterday i ordered parts to build my own diver style watch for under 80 euro including tools!! love the work will use this video as a tutorial when i assemble mine.
Nice job on the watch! One thing I would HIGHLY recommend is get a leather buff with a watchmakers anvil, a lot of cheap watch hands will have a sort of dull foggy luster on them. by putting the hand in a mini watchmakers anvil you can hold it down and properly buff out that fog, really makes the hands shine brightly.
Another great video! Personally, I do prefer the live commentary on watch build videos as it feels almost as if we were undertaking the journey together. I found your channel through one of those videos, and it was, honestly, infectiously fun to watch.
Definitely DON’T use it in the shower, the face will end up full of steam. I wouldn’t take any watch into the Shower. I’ve seen many people damage very expensive watches taking them into the shower.
I'd just about trust my builds in a damp room - no way would I shower or swim with them. Every retail watch company (should) will have a pressure chamber where they test for water resistance, and unless you want to invest in one of those I doubt many home builds would survive a swim.
@@ScottPC I’ve seen many Rolex’s and Tudor steamed up with moisture throughout the movement because people have taken them into the shower. Under water and hot steamy water are very different things.
I've discovered your videos recently and the watches builds series is one of my favourites. It would be fantastic to see an NH36 movement build or a chronograph! Either ways I think it would be fantastic
I like a mix of videos. Some can be filmed like this one to look as professional as possible, some others can be more live, with some oopsie moments in between.
I love watching you watches. You seem like so at peace and it's to relaxing to watch you build hehe. Those other straps would have looked so much better tho, I agree. Still a very nice moon watch Elliot.
I recently build a ali watch because of your vids! I need to share it on discord or something! cost around $120 CAD movement was really hard to find that was able to ship
I think I like the "doing it live" approach better. It feels more fun and informal which i personally like better. It feels more human when you accidentally get your head in frame as well.
I was shocked seeing this thumbnail! This is the same dial and similar build I did for my first ever watch after being inspired by your first watch video! What a small world hahaha
I was just about to buy this dial. You actually got me into the hobby and just built an NH38 open heart watch. I would love to see you build with one of those because it's a stunning movement.
All good! Question here, perhaps an idea... How would one create their own dial face with art? Can you get a blank dial and have it printed on? Or perhaps a sticker for a dial face?
Hey Elliot. I'm going to be building my Fiance a watch as a present in the New Year and I think it would be awesome to see you build a watch aimed for a Women's wrist maybe with a NH05 Movement or using smaller Dials on a NH35. I'd love to know what you think of this and Look forward to more cool watch builds!
It would look really nice if the hands had a bit more contrast, especially the seconds hand where it could be blue tinted to fit the theme. Anyways, awesome looking watch.

Motherboard traces leading to chips as the time markers would be sick. You can buy solderable standoffs for watch dials so as long as there's a ring of solder points on the back, you can make it fit any movement. Or just use double sided adhesive, but where's the fun in that?
Hey I love your watch videos! Im always kinda sad that the sh35 movement and cases are so very expressive here in Brazil. Do you intend on doing a build with even more cheap parts? I don't know how to do it properly without guidance lol. I tried looking into miyota 2115, but i see it needs adapters and stuff so i got lost lol
I´ve been building my own watch from AliExpress. However, the date does not change at 12, it does so earlier, like at 8. Even tho I have tried many times setting the hands just as the date wheel changes the date. Any ideas?
Might be because the NH34 has exposed wheels on the dial side, when the NH35 only has the smooth flat side of the hour wheel. I imagine adding a dial spring to an NH35 would add more friction to the hour wheel, having the dial press it on to the hour wheel

What's the dial spring for?
Stops the dial dragging the hour wheel and cannon pinion thus making for a slower timekeeper.
