probably the most modest, under-rated drummer in the history of rock music, considering the Pistols were self taught amateurish, naïve players, Paul Cook was always rock solid and playing for the songs, if the rest of the band had his discipline, they would've gone on for much longer, he was the dogs bollox
Paul Cook a brilliant drummer , I always thought who is that guy who plays that fantastic beat for the sex pistols, never heard that kind of drumming before, so i thought it was the most adventurous drumming there was at the time, simple but fast, flawless and powerful.
Paul is the most honest of the pistols , no disrespect cause I'm an old fan of the band He deserves a sxxt load more of credit for what he provided for The pistols and The professionals - the best rock n roll drummer 👍👍👍👍👍❤📢🎼🎵🎶
Steve Jones said, they were not selfish , had in mind P. Cook too, of course. I think, they were Best musicians for that unique group (with John. Rotten and Matlock)
how the fuck did Cookie know how to underplay, all those years ago, when almost every other punk drummer was doing drum rolls and silly fills throughout their songs???, it's always been a mystery to me, I'm sure he never had any lessons or did the rudiments stuff back in the day, it's good to see folks on youtube noting what a brill drummer he is, justice for drummers
Well since Prog Rock favoured ENORMOUS drum kits with rows of tom toms, Paul Cook just using a minimalist 4 piece drum kit, didn't play any extended, unnecessarily long drum fills/rolls because he didn't have rows of tom toms that he felt obliged to play... Why did he only use a 4 piece? Less to carry. Less to set up. Less to steal/pay for. Minimalist and totally punk...
Proper old school Londoner and one of the heaviest, most ponderous backbeats in rock... Those were the days - Yobs/punks/lads, just used to gob at each other - They didn't feel the need to throw fucking acid at each other!!!
@@sweeperlunatic6940 Noel said he only met the Sex Pistols once at a gig in Shepherds bush empire back in 1996.I wouldn't imagine for one moment they have much in common - just look at the musical differences and quality of lyrics between the two bands!
@@revol148 how can that be true when oasis and noel have been on jonesys jukebox loads of times and in one of them they even talk about the last time they all saw 'cookie'
@@sweeperlunatic6940 If they have been on the show in person then I have yet to see it unless you meant Steve plays their records. From the way Cook dismissed that photograph I get the impression that he doesn't think much of them. It's not something I am hugely concerned about to be honest as the Sex Pistols are on a level so far above Oasis they really shouldn't be close even if they are !
I have seen many Englishmen in their early 40's (wearing West Ham T-shirts far too small to hide their fat beer bellies) who look like they are in their late 50's
A&M sacked them cos the night after they signed their contract they went to a club/gig and tried to beat up Bob Harris from the Old Grey Whistle Test who only got out alive cos the roadies from Procal Harum rescued him. Paul forgot that bit
The Pistols were just having fun when they were kids in a rock band..Johnny like to be the anti establishment pissed off guy..Steve was like the little troublemaker.. John Matlock was the guy who really didn't fit in..Paul was the guy who went along for the ride, and being the kick ass drummer. And those guys still try to play up those parts for the fun of it to this day..Oh yeah..And Sid tried to be the Lou Reed type junkie kind of rock star, but he was no Lou Reed..Lou was a street smart New Yorker like me, and wasn't going to die for it..They invite Sid into a band that were about to break big without any bass playing talent, who was Johnny's friend, and really did look the part..And instead of learning the bass properly, and getting rid of his junkie girlfriend, and thanking God he was in this great band..He decided to be Lou Reed, or Iggy Pop in two years flat, and he couldn't pull it off, so he died..They should have gotten a real Punk bass player at that critical moment, and I bet they would have made a few more great albums like Kurt Cobain did before he decided to be an idiot and die on his band, wife and baby, after he got on top of the world in the biggest band around..The Pistols really needed a guy at that exact moment to get it together before it was too late..So Sid dragged them down..He should have remained a fan and he might be alive today..I did Heroin for like 15yrs from 1985 to 2000..It really was bullshit..After a few months you're just trying not to be sick every day..You can't work a job like that, especially a job like a kick ass rock band..These fuckers don't get it..Kurt Cobain Nirvana, Scott Wieland Stone Temple Pilots, , Shannon Hoon Blind Melon, , Layne Staley Alice In Chains, Chris Cornell Soundgarden, All the lead singers from some of the first great Grunge bands dead (Except Eddie Vedder) from like drug related bullshit..My girlfriend said, 'Well they had a lot of money for tons of drugs'. I told her I had enough money everyday to kill myself on dope..You can die on $20, $40 $100 worth of that stuff every day..And every junkie got that type of money...And Paul Cook remained cool for decades and decades..That's my take on all of it being as old as The Pistols were in 1977/78 and watching it all happen..I may be wrong. Let me know.. frankny64yroldwhitekid rockfan PS I love Kurt, and all those guys and their music, and Sid was cool, and God bless them all..But these motherfuckers were no Lou Reed or Iggy Pop, or even Johnny Thunders..lol
Junior B Oasis was one of the biggest bands of the 90s. In Britain (their home country), they were insanely huge, a scale which hasn't been met by a rock band since. I imagine that Paul never really paid attention to the music scene in the 90s, or more to the point, whatever was popular. It probably just wasn't his thing. However, many of the comments on here cheer him for his reaction because Oasis had (and still has) a reputation for being excessively arrogant, which is why many people hate them.
I personally think that his negative reaction towards the photo of Oasis was perhaps because just like the Sex Pistols, Oasis also allowed their off stage antics to get in the way of their music. It's almost like the older generation looking at the new generation and shuddering because in them they see their-selves reflected back at them.
Hehe,i was just kidding, i love Paul Cook..Sat next to him on a flight to Los Angeles couple of years ago. Very nice bloke and i listened to sex pistols for 30 years. Did not mean to make a bad input here. sorry if anyone got offended.
Afghanen as a man gets older the one part of him that continues to grow is his ears (unfortunately). Check out your grandad. I'm starting to get elephant meself.

Matlock was the same but the band politics pushed him out.
Paul Cook is a very, very, very great drummer !
Love Paul Cook; he's so grounded. And great the way he flaps the request for a comment on oasis away. Man of taste.
jemmina I love you woman of taste - punks not dead
Please never bring this one down, I've been laughing out loud for five minutes straight with that Oasis reaction.
Decent bloke and great drummer
Met paul last yr in Norwich and he is one of the nicest most down to earth people you will ever meet ...
"I don't know who that is...." great.
Deffo the gentleman of the Pistols and my favourite. Always humble and very honest in his recollections.
Well said.100%
Lovely bloke, always warm friendly and polite.
Paul Cook was a great drummer very underrated, Probably my favourite drummer of all time.

Paul is a gentleman, fantastic bloke who has kept his head firmly screwed on, no over inflated ego, no bull, an honest working class guy.
A genuine person and a great artist, I like his kind words on Sid :)
3:01 was pure gold 😂

Should be very proud to be the drummer on one of the greatest albums ever recorded in the history of popular music!
Cookie is a top drummer, Self taught i believe and he just has it! I love his solid style.
Kind words for Adam Ant are rare. I'm a longtime fan but some periods of his career embarrass me. Nevertheless.... he's worthy of respect.
Fascinating video. Only wish it were longer.
what lovable guy
3:04 HAHAHAHAA! Brilliant. Good on ye Paul.
always loved his beat to start no fun.
cos you are puff
Lydons pose in the first photo is both hilarious and iconic 😂
That was enjoyable. More Cook please!
Paul has great comments on mid 70's bands

Youre right, JOHN Matlock never fit in, for a reason.
I now own the SF Golden Gate bridge for under $1.00.

Not really too into rock, so can someone please explain to me the Oasis reaction?
+Junior B because they were one of the biggest bands in the world
Flattop box they were pretty big in the US. I can remember in the 90's every other song on the radio was either Nirvana or Oasis

+sid vicious I thought you were dead?
+sid vicious Glen described Oasis as "the best of a pretty bad bunch".
+01denese where did u read it?
Maybe he has nothing to say about them.
Whats up with his big ears???
