Building my first budget custom keyboard (RK84 Pro)

- Опубліковано 23 сер 2024
- Today we're building my first budget custom keyboard using the RK84 Pro for under $200! I was pretty happy with the final result and sound test since it was my first time modding / building a mechanical keyboard.
Let me know if you have any feedback/questions in the comments below - I'm really new to custom keyboards but will probably end up building another keyboard in the future!

No you actually did insane. I was surprised by how good it sounded and how well you assembled it and really thought about the outcome of your first custom keyboard. This was cool and can’t wait for you next video. I’m a new subscriber now! ✅😀
thank you!! and welcome :))
Just came across this keyboard earlier today and have to say that the aluminum frame looks fantastic. I wish it was a little darker in terms of colour but this looks fine too.
This is actually the first build here that seems kinda meet my own requirements: Good looking, MacOS oriented, not too expensive. Thanks!
woahhhh love how that turned out!!
That’s a pretty good keyboard for your first attempt! I’d say that the stabs have some ticking, so you should definitely lube and holee mod those. Everything else is pretty good! Keycaps were a good choice especially after hearing your reasoning, and gateron milky yellows are one of the best budget switches for a thocky sound profile.
Dudeeee this is amazing I just bought the rk84 pro and I’m gonna mod it just like you did, can’t wait
good luck!
@@kwoknation where did you get your stabilizers?
@@kwoknation where did you get your stabilizers??
Great job man! Mine is on the way, can't wait myself.
Masking paper tape 1mm thickness for sound dampening LMAO!!! You are GENIUS!!!
as somone in the hobby for 2-3 years, you did pretty well. IF you ever wanna get something else I suggest a ncr 80 with zealpc clikies(yes its clicky, but its super super deep) and you can make them tactile through a intended mod that zeal kinda wants you to do
i'm waiting for 2 months for your next video, thank you for making and uploading this video ^^ ❤️
wow really nice!
you really did a good job modding it, the result was sensational.
also get some durock plate mount stabs for better sound
u r so smart !! and i love to watch ur videos, keep going brother 👍🏻✨
cute keyboard!
Just bought gateron milky yellows and those same keycaps before I watched this video 🤯 can't wait for it to arrive 😁
Looks awesome, great job
Found this ad and ignored it but then i saw *YELLOW SWITCHES*
it basically sounds like my £50 keyboard, but better stabilisers
Just ordered this keyboard off Amazon for my first mod as well! Pretty excited to get into this hobby, lol. 1+ for dvsn, btw.
bro i just finished my $200 rk84 pro build too. It took me 10 min to get the pcb out the first time lol
This is how I built it
1. rk84 pro $100 on sale (stainless steel case btw)
2. PBT Double Shot Shine Through ANSI ISO Blue White Keycap by YMDK $25
3. 54 Gateron oil kings + 30 Gateron golden yellow cap v2 switches for less important keys (has a similar feel and sound profile to the oil kings but has a shorter travel) $50
4. 2mm poron foam for the bottom of the case (kills high pitched sounds and provides insane thoccs) $8
5. Durock Plate Mounted Stabilizers $13
6. tempest tape mod free.99 babeee
final price: $196
This thing THOCCS
The only thing I really want to add is a 0.5mm ixpe pcb plate because I heard they THOCC but I couldn't find one that wasn't an add on for an expensive keyboard
nice build. Aren't the milky yellows pre-lubed though?
thank you! I think they are but I wanted them to sound extra creamy
best ad i have ever seen
nice board but dang $50 for the key caps!!! i got the same set for $20 on amazon
Why not something like dynamat with foam on top on the case
Dude, how were the yellow gateron switches stock on your rk84? I’m new to this mechanical keeb thing lol… wow the modded version sounded pretty sick!
i actually had red gateron switches stock on the rk84; they weren't too bad but a bit hollow sounding!
What an awesome video! Hey how long did you take to custom this keyboard?
a few hours since it was my first time! spread over 2 days though
@@kwoknation ow I see. It's dope 👍
what camera do you use to film these videos? I really love your content. it is soothing and comfortable.
I use the Canon M50!! and thank you :))
Congratulations on your first build and welcome to the hobby. Also RIP to your wallet 😅Trust me it always ends like this. There's no way back. You always want more, better, different.
Where did you get the stabilizers?
Are the f11 and f12 volume controls or i still need to press the fn key?
Can you tell if the multimedia fn keys work on mac ?
What monitor do you have? Trying to look for a good one with a clear display ?
I have the Dell S3422DWG!
you are missing the holee mod. i have the same keyboard and it does the biggest diff.
oo will try that on my next keyboard build :)
Personally I find the holee mod makes stabilizers too mushy for my taste, and I generally get much better results when I just lube the stabs and put a lot of lube/dielectric grease on the wires. Using better stabs like tx, stabies, or durock stabs helps as well.
Hey Kwoknation i have Question For you Can I Make Really good Custom Keyboard With 500$? and can you send me links of Parts that i can buy If you dont mind.
Nioce
That Ducky spacebar sounded like hot garbage!!!
Good try. Lot of room for improvements there. Keep it up
What stabilizers did you use again?
durock v1 stabilizers :)
your handsome
you look so handsome😂
Built a couple of keyboards before and have been in the community for a while now and all uve done was lube the switches and stabs and the only things uve added was some foam new stabs and keycaps so I wouldnt rlly call this a build but more of a mod for the rk84 wouldve been more appropiate to name this vid Modding the rk84 but nonetheless great keyboard.
early
I would suggest you to sell this tin crap and buy a GAS67.
You will get the felling of a DIY kit and original building of a custom mechanical keyboard. I have build one recently.
Will drop the yt link here 👌🏼
