Hi Char, very accurate video! Thank you for the description in regards to the mid-size GM "A" body and "G" body. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo that came out in 1970, it was always a "G" body, this was a longer hood and shorter rear deck, passenger compartment and roof moved back. The 1969 and up Pontiac Grand Prix shared the "G" body also. Before 1969, the Grand Prix was based on the Pontiac Catalina full-size GM "B" body. If you notice with each generation of the GM "A" and "G" body(s) up to 1978, the cars kept becoming a bit bigger and heaver. When GM reached the 1973 "A" and "G" body, in my opinion, they where no longer a true mid-size, they where a "senior mid-size" closer to the GM full-size then ever before, with more interior room, larger trunks and larger engine compartments. Ford did the same thing with the mid-size Fairlane to Torino and then Gran Torino. In 1972, the Ford mid-size was no longer had a unit built body shell, it received a full perimeter body on frame 90% the same as the full-size Ford. In my opinion, the Torino and Gran Torino became a "senior mid-size." If you raise any (two different) of these cars up on a lift, with a steel tape measure in your hand, you will blatantly see what I am talking about. All the mid-size cars kept getting closer to full-size cars including Chrysler until the late 1970s. Ford kept making the Mustang bigger and bigger, the 1971-1973, Mustang was no longer a Falcon based compact, it was a Torino based platform making it a "senior compact" longer wheel base, wider track, longer hood, wider engine compartment, so that the "Boss 429" engine would fit without any engine compartment modification, the Boss 429 took up more room. The 1969 and 1970 Mustang engine compartments had to be modified to fit the Boss 429s, at a high cost. In the mean time, Ford canceled the Boss 429 engine in mid 1970, due to cost to produce, (Boss 429s where hand built at the factory) and also the end of "The Performance Era" was already insight. The Plymouth Barracuda went from a compact Valiant platform to a Plymouth Satellite platform in 1970 making it a "senior compact" that was so the engine compartment would accept the "426 Hemi" engine. The 426 Hemi took up more room. The Chrysler 426 Hemi and the Ford Boss 429 have much wider cylinder heads and much bigger exhaust manifolds, or "headers" you might say, taking up much more lateral space than any other big block engine. The 426 Hemi has a full hemispherical combustion chamber. The Boss 429 has a semi hemispherical combustion chamber. Please reply. Dave...

The "A-body" intermediates were reassigned the "G-body" name after the front-drive Celebrity/6000/Cutlass Ciera/Century were introduced for the 1982 model year! To further muddle the waters, what had been the Pontiac LeMans was renamed the Bonneville Model G at the same time!

@@gcfifthgear Thank you for the info, I was a bit confused. GM badged so many names on so many different types of cars. The GM "X" body started out as the Chevrolet Chevy ii/Nova and ended up as the Chevrolet Cavalier. Dave...

@@gcfifthgear Thank you for the info! I was confused. GM rebadged many different types of cars. The GM "G" body that I was talking about was originally the mid-size Chevrolet Monte Carlo/Pontiac Grand Prix, sorry for the misprint. The GM "X" body started out as the Chevrolet Chevy ii/Nova and ended up as the Chevrolet Citation, a different car entirely. Dave...

    I bought a 1980 , 2 door Malibu with the 305...Red on red.
After I owned it a couple yrs I decided I wanted more power & a sportier look...
So I took it to a friend who pulled the motor & rebuilt it with go faster parts..
I never had it dyno'd but he guessed I gained about 80 hp...
    I loved the car..
It was lightweight & rode great...
I had the 50/50 split bench & it was convienant on dates .
I put Cragers all around & Uniroyal radials that really popped...
I had married & a couple kids came along .
But , the old girl was tired & my wife disliked the 2 doors...
So , I parked it in our barn where it set for about 10 yrs...
My baby brother blew the engine on his Ford p.o.s. , so I offered to help him get the Malibu on the rd ...
He jumped at the chance . He loved that car from the day I drove it home brand new...
So , we once again pulled the motor & rebuilt it...
Went thru the brakes & got her road worthy again...
He drove it thru high school & his first 2 yrs of college and she was getting really tired...
    So...in 1994 he sold it.
It had way over 100k miles on er' , and served 1st myself , then my brother very well...

I had one of this body style. It was a crude tank, but it ran and ran and never gave me any trouble.

Malibou classic sport 4460 units not dollars, I'm sure that's what you meant. Looking back, not a bad car

The radio station for which I worked at the time these models came out had a trade-out for two four-door Malibu Classic sedans, which I loved to drive and--had I been able to afford them--would have purchased myself!

We were always a Mercury, Honda, or Nissan family. Never owned a GM car. But the coupe here looks really nice.

Oh hey, I know where that cool-looking Bob Peck Chevrolet dealership “used to be”. I used to drive by it all the time in Arlington VA when I’d jump on or off I-66 at the Glebe Road exit.

Another great production,I look forward for more.I remember they had problems with the bearings grooving the axle shafts, and the thm200 metric equipped cars were putting it drive was abusing it but thankfully replacing it with a turbo 350 was a easy fix overall the 78 up GM midsizes were a good cars if equipped with the right engines and the stronger thm 250 or thm 350,plus the style still looks good today.

I learned to drive in the Malibu 2 door classic - when my Uncle upgraded - I got it at 'family prices' 1200 bucks - cashed out my motorcycle for it - so the parentals were happy about that - drove it all through highschool and college - just stupid reliable box that nobody wanted to mess with - never broke down, never broken into - something my friends with same gen Novas could not ever say. I wished they had made a 2 door sport wagen 'NOMAD' - I would scoop one of those up in a second

It was possible to get a 4bbl 350 as well. They were quite rare.

Oddly the rear windows on four door sedan and wagon models did not roll down at all (regardless of trim level). At least the wagons had the option for rear flip out windows behind the rear windows right at the C-Pillar. Sedan rear passengers were just plain out of luck.

    • @Char_Jens

They did that to keep doors and panels thin so they could have wider seating...The wagon had a power vent window option.
