The production design in the first two Batman movies were second to none. They need to go back to actually designing out Gotham instead of just flying out to New York or Chicago.
What do you mean, "just flying to Chicago"? Why does it sound so dismissive when shooting on the real locations is well known for being more time consuming, dangerous (if we're talking action scenes), and unpredictable. Shooting a city with mate paintings and miniatures is nowhere near as complex as doing it for real. Sound stages were the green screen before the green screen. A real location will always be appreciated by real fans of cinema.

Tim Burton was a GENIUS for this one! Sure, it had its campy moments, and some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy ... but the storyline, overall aesthetic and production design of this film was AMAZING! And even though the Penguin & Catwoman had different origin stories compared to the original comics, they did a fantastic job with practically creating them from scratch as far as image and persona goes! Danny DeVito, and ESPECIALLY Michelle Pfeiffer, were great in playing their roles!
I heard someone say this before and I agree, "Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman in Batman Returns isn't comic accurate at all, but she's still the best live action Catwoman we have."

Both Tim Burton's Batman movies are iconic and really the launching point for superhero movies. Batman & Batman Returns still hold up to this day. It was the watered down junk that came after that which killed the franchise for a time.
Burton was the right guy at the right place with the right crew. I don’t think we will ever get a Batman experience like this again. They should’ve let him continue.

I remember my dad taking us to the drive in to see this, it was a awesome experience.
Greatest Batman film ever
*Cue the Nolan fanboy backlash in 3... 2... 😄
(Though I won't lie ... I really liked TDK! 😎)
Yes tim burton and keaton was the only ones that captured the esence of Batman
@@bloodeagle6458 Not the only, but they definitely did it very well. Very masterfully
I miss the Batman films where Gotham City looked like an actual comic book city, whimsical and full of personality, instead of just a version of Chicago or New York with different signs we always get these days.
Such an iconic movie, it has a special place in my heart!
I still have the toy Batmobile that was filled with Smarties candy from seeing Batman Returns in theaters.
The best Batman movie ever !!
Thm first batman suits was perfect man! Whn u see that as a kid its just bigger than life love those movies
As of right now Batman Returns is the best Batman film. I have loved it since I was a kid and it’s a shame that the studio didn’t try to keep Burton and Keaton for the other films, they would have been incredible but that’s another timeline.
This is an incredible film. Whether McDonald's got angry about its marketing or whether it was wrongly aimed at children is another matter, but the film was and is spectacular.
Batman 89 had best script but returns had best cinematography, every scene is a masterpiece
Visually and cinematically its still one of the best looking comicbook/superhero movies ever made even to this day.
I love Batman Returns! I think as a sequel it surpasses the original! IMO
I love that DeVito and Pfeiffer genuinely liked the previous versions and yet very much made their own new versions.
It's too bad that Tim never made a third Batman movie, But at least they're making a comic that takes place after Returns and a Superman '78 comic.
Jimmy kimmel : michael, who is the best batman?
Michael keaton : Me... 😎🦇🦇🦇
Absolutely amazing in every way imagined
BATMAN 89 COMIC RELEASED IN JULY, WILL FOLLOW THE EVENTS OF ¨BATMAN RETURNS¨!!!!
Basically Batman TAS is a continuity of it
@@chrisanderson2204 No, it isn’t. This has been covered by Michael Uslan and Bruce Tim, both.
@@chrisorman73 what?
@@chrisanderson2204 No. Burtonverse
Both Tim Burton's Batman movies are iconic and really the launching point for superhero movies. Batman & Batman Returns still hold up to this day. It was the watered down junk that came after that which killed the franchise for a time.
Without Michelle Phieffer's Catwoman in Batman Returns, there would be no Harley Quinn.
You could argue without Tim Burton or Danny Elfman there would be no Batman TAS
@@wallywest2038 Shirley Walker.
@@wallywest2038 you could argue without Bob Kane and Bill Finger there would be no Batman Returns
@@frostbitepokin9520 You could argue
Harley Quinn was actually based in Alicia from the first movie
Burton was the right guy at the right place with the right crew. I don’t think we will ever get a Batman experience like this again. They should’ve let him continue.
So unfortunate they did not want Tim Burton to do the 3rd. He seemed to be really into it and probably had some very impressive ideas. A third film by him would have been epic.
Unpopular opinion: Batman Returns > Batman '89
I really wish Tim Burton and Michael Keaton had done a 3rd Batman movie.
Unpopular opinion: you can love both for what they are and not try to be controversial
@@SmellTheCanvis there's nothing controversial about either statement 😉
Of course but than we would had a curse like Raimi did with Spider-Man 3.
@@Thespeedrap except Raimi isn't Burton.
@@maybetoby True as well.Seems like Batman was Burton's baby like Spider-Man was for Raimi it just the studios were greedy and their cake and eat it too.
i saw it with my then gf and her grandparents and we both loved it , nearly 30 yrs later i`m getting nostaslgic feelings
Michelle Pfeiffer absolutely killed it as Catwoman in this movie.
4:54 - I love this drawing!
One of the best movies of all time (my fav. Batman movie)
I wouldn't say that Batman Returns is a great film. But for some reason, I do still LOVE this movie.
бэтмен возвращение это шедевр шедевров и лучший кинокомикс
15:20 Enter Frank Reynolds..
That was a great documentary!
Batman Returns holds a very special place in my heart, this is my firat big cinema experience as a child and i watched it with my late father. This is also my favorite interpretation of Gotham City on screen.
Love it. Very insightful!
Batman Returns is a masterpiece.
That Sean Young story is infamous! Wonder if she ever had a chance...
She looks hot in this Interview.
But my guess is no.
I agree with the sentiment at the end. While a third Batman movie from him would’ve been awesome, I’m glad he was able to move on instead. He could’ve made Batman forever amazingly but then we wouldn’t have Ed wood which is my favorite movie of his and one of my favorite movies of all time.
One of the best batman movies 👏👏👏
Why does this documentary forget Max Shreck and Christopher Walken?
He's a powerhouse, but kinda a second fiddle villain. Who will always wonder "Bruce Wayne, why are you dressed like Batman?"
@Dalton Frazier Walken is still alive but Penguin died to in the film. Shreck was created for the film only
My favorite Batman movie, with my favorite Bruce Wayne/Batman Micheal Keaton
My favorite quick shot was in Batman Returns was, when Batman DJ scratched The Penguin's voice track. It was not expected. @thedarkknightriders
How someone can hate those Batman movies, they are my favs
These sketches of the penguin are so cute 😊😂
Great movie. Very dark and I think it exemplifies the message in Burton's films, which is embracing your inner freak
The one and only movie that truly captures the true Gothic spirit of Batman. This same exact process of recording, quality, film, budgets and effort is what truly creates timeless Masterpieces. Unlike modern soulless, thinned, cheap productions. This is the last of true Hollywood Timeless Blockbuster material the industry lacks. Modern techniques, shortcuts and technologies do not even get close to these type of efforts.
