      My earliest memories of DC were when I'd watch Super Friends re-runs with my dad. Then later, Batman TAS and so on. It doesn't matter how you became a fan. All that matters is what those characters and those memories mean to you.

      MrRoMaGi I like to think that as well. When it comes to DC’s characters the likes of Batman, Superman, the Flash, Wonder Woman, etc., gives off a sorta mythical and legendary status towards them like the Greek/Roman gods. However with Marvel characters, it heavily relies more on personal sympathy and sometimes even empathy towards the viewer; you expect heroes such as Thor, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, or the X-Men to be more distant and grandiose due to their power and influence but they are usually portrayed in the opposite by showing how easily they can be beaten down. Spider-Man is easily the best example of a character anybody can relate to.

  • @Novapoid
    @Novapoid 3 роки тому +170

    I really hope WB get their act together with the DC movies. There's so much mythic potential in them, it's certainly a different feel than Marvel (which is cool, too, but I always felt closer to DC characters) and I'm not sure the lighthearted tone fits them even if it has massive appeal. There has been exceptions such as Shazam! (which btw had also darkness and heart), but more often than not they should feel mythical & larger than life.
    P.S: Please don't give Superman to J.J. Abrams.

    1:16:24 That's the most heartbreaking part of that story. Their son is dead, his body is buried in another city, and they cannot even allow the world to know who Clark Kent is. And to add insult to injury, Clark Kent has not even been confirmed DEAD at that point; his only status is that he's missing due to his allegedly being on the scene covering the Superman-Doomsday battle. They raised him, and they have to watch this procession from the sidelines and hide some of their grief. And Jonathan blames himself for helping Clark CONCIEVE the dual identity of Superman after he was forced to use his powers in public. They only have his childhood belongings and photo albums to bury in the crater his ship made when he landed on Earth thirty years ago. As devastating a blow it was to the world to lose Superman, this was a tougher one dealt to Jonathan and Martha. It even gives Jonathan a heart attack that almost kills him. This part of "Funeral For a Friend" would bring anyone to tears.

    My old roommate from 20 years ago was the biggest comic collector I ever knew in person.
    He owned a fortune, each protected in a transparent sleeve, keeping his collection up to date with excel lists, he printed out to label the boxes. Of course, he spent lots of time in the only comic book store we had.
    I was fascinated, trying to understand more of that passion which he devoted so much time and money.
    I came to find it reflected so much about our world as we know it, and the world we desire to create, really.
    I liked Batman more, I am more of the sinister stuff, the Joker is a character that has enormous impact on all sorts of villain characters throughout the movie business as well as the writing business. Hard to find a character is more wag and deep down bad-crazy and sadistic than him. Shakespeare would have loved him, I am sure.
