I’ve mostly stopped with buying higher end makeup/skincare with a few exceptions. In most instances? There’s an affordable alternative that works just as well if not better. Idk I feel so oversaturated with expensive brands using “new” “trendy” and “high end” as the basis for their products to the point it feels predatory. Appreciate your content for reiterating the concept of a “need vs want” and financial accessibility, while encouraging taking a step back to think about all these makeup releases in our own lives.
same. Most of my basic skincare comes from The Inkey List (moisturizers with no fragrance or actives) but I also buy a couple targeted products from Paula's Choice to combat my rosacea (azalaic acid booster & niaciminide) My eyeshadows are mostly indie & anymore my cream complexion products are from Milani. Concealer is drugstore, sometimes mascara but when my eyes are very sensitive I must use a Clinique tubing mascara. I am on a tight budget now & can't spend a lot on lipbalms & other high priced viral products that can be found easily at the drugstore or accomplished with products I already own.
About the only time I'm willing to consider a higher end product is if I can't find a satisfactory drugstore product. Note, I said "satisfactory", not "perfect." For example, foundation and concealer. I'm very pale and have very dry, sensitive skin and dark undereye circles. It can be hard to find drugstore products that work for me.
Thanks for sharing these. I rarely buy hi-end & don't really see the need to buy hi-end. Especially when I see the high end companies lavishing all these "influencers" w/ gifts & trips. I appreciate you being here with us !
@@LenaSheppard I agree with you here. However on the other hand, people like Jen use those free products to give us accurate reviews, so in that respect I get it. My drugstore makeup collection is far bigger than my high end collection. I like it that way.
Hi Jen, this is silly 😅, but I use inexpensive toothbrushes for my fly away hairs lol. 😂😂😂 It works, I like it more with a really light hairspray, I spray the toothbrush and slick my frizzies down 😊
As soon as you said that the Milani lip stains are dark and bold my ears perked up. I almost bought some months ago but decided not to. Those lighter Korean ones look really good too and I had never heard about them. I love that even if stuff doesn't work for you, you describe it so well that another person can make a choice about how well it will work for them. Very mindful! 😆
Thanks fir your help! Especially since I’m one of those that can’t afford it! This helps so much! I miss your series you used to do where you’d compare the new color story to what we already have in our collection. I’m not sure if those type don’t bring n the views however I greatly appreciate them so much!
Thank you, this is the best video to show we don't have to run out and buy everything that there are alternatives and ways to get the same thing with what you have. My favorite tip is mixing the blush with the primer, genius! I always learn something from your videos which is why i continue to watch. I have a goal to use what I have and stop buying things I just don't really need
You have quickly become one of my favourite Beauty UA-camrs. Your content is often unique and touches on topics that are interesting to me. I only buy drugstore products, because that’s all my budget allows for, so I need to hear about how these products function. Your videos help me make the best possible decision and not waste what little I have to spend. That’s a priceless gift 💝
Jen what a lovely video- I love that you have drugstore formulas AND diy solutions. So creative and a great way to use up whatever we already have on hand ❤
Great ideas to use what we already have=why constantly purchase when all you have to do is combine two things you already own? You are very good at your job Jen. THX
This is such a great idea of Jen's. All you have to do is poke around your drawers to realize how much variety you already have. Lisa Eldridge adds moisturizer to foundation and Voila! Skin Tint. I don't own a highlight powder, I have so many frosted white, pink and purple eyeshadows that are perfect for your cheekbones.
It’s crazy how the west is only now catching up with oiling hair before washing it. In south east Asia, it’s been a norm since the ancient times. But glad it’s caught on, it makes a HUGE difference, specially if you leave it overnight!
Thank you for your un-sponsored content! I trust you much more than some other overly sponsored content creators like Angie, Hot and Flashy. She is too often plugging and advertising products from her sponsors. Thanks for being fresh and original!! 😊
No BS Beauty does a great job with unbiased reviews too. She reviews skincare rather than makeup. She also doesn't take PR...she buys everything she reviews. She and Jen are my two favorite beauty channels.
I love seeing creators supporting other creators!🥰 I, too, watch Abbey's channel and my hair is so much better for it! Highly recommend her channel for your hair needs.
This video is pure genius!! Thank you for the recommendations, Jen! You’re the absolute best beauty influencer. In fact you make the term “influencer” become a much more benign one. With you it is more of a real girlfriend support system: honest, thoughtful, down to earth. Much appreciated 💝
Thanks for comparing the Clarins lip oil to the Milani lip oil, I already love the Milani one, but I wanted to try the Clarins, since I like their Lip Oil balm, so wanted to try the lip oil. I can save my money by just continuing using the Milani. Great tip on the blurring blush, using what I have to get that effect is such a smart idea.
I love K-beauty and J-beauty milky toners, but I did buy the Thayers toner when you first mentioned it and I really love it. I think it might be my new favorite and it’s so affordable.
I bought the Thayers Milky Toner on your recommendation and I’m loving it. Hydration galore and my skin needs it now that we’re in a transition period. Way less expensive but works beautifully, especially if you have dry or mature skin. Thank you Jen! Didn’t really need another toner but a very smart choice.
Thank you, Jen!! Those tips were super helpful. Esepcially the tip to mix primer in with blush. I've never heard or thought of that but genius! Defintiely will be trying 😊
I like your hair this way! It's a very cool and young look. For flyaway hairs I just spray hairspray on my brush and then brush it through... Thanks for all the 'hacks' to mix things and get the newer effects!
The Milani Lash Extensions Tubing Mascara is my ALL TIME FAVORITE (and I’m a mascara snob 😝). It’s SO GOOD! It was $13.99 @ Ulta when I got it last winter. The Byoma Milky Toner is DA BOMB too! I’ve been wanting to try the Thayers tho! NOICE! 🥰
Thank you so much for showing us how to use products we already have to create a new product. It makes it fun to get ready in the morning and I am saving money.
I've been using the elf tubing mascara for a while and love it. I've never tried the Thrive one so I can't offer a comparison. But in & of itself, the elf mascara is great!
Hi Jen, I've not bought any high end makeup in a long time. So I am so happy to see you make this video for products that are just as good for us as others and it doesn't break the bank to use them. My budget loves you and I appreciate the work you go through to bring us the best useful content in your videos. The reviews are very helpful to me and I thank you so much.❤💗💕❣🙏🌹🌺🌸💐
Thank you for doing the research on these products for us! With how expensive everything is right now I am excited to find affordable options for beauty!
This look is amazing on you. If you haven't, I would look into the concept of desaturation/muted complexion or (in the color season context) soft summer possibly. That dusty green looks amazing with your complexion and the more subtle colors of your makeup look make you look so alive. Also loving the side-part and your hair in general! ❤
You always look your best, so I never would have suggested that you change your hair. But wow! Just parting on the side has really jazzed up your whole look. Nice to have options to change up your look when you want.
Thank you!! I always used to part my hair on the side but last summer I had surgery on my scalp to remove a skin cancer and it was in the spot where I usually part my hair, and there was a bald spot there. So I started parting it on the middle to cover that area. Now that it's all healed up and the hair has grown back I can wear it like this again! 🥰
Look at you--very fall-ish and I love it! Such clever tips for us. For toners, I totally agree about their main function--hydrating and soothing. I have used Paula's Choice Enriched Calming Toner for years and I'd take a bath in it if I could. It's my favorite product from her. Regardless of what condition my skin is in this instantly adds moisture and calms any irritation. I tried the Byoma toner but it irritates my skin (maybe because of Retin -A) But the Pc toner calmed the stinging. I'm so glad I have it to fall back on.

Hi, Jen! Oh, thank you, thank you! for mentioning ELF'S Las Extndr. I am on my third tube already! I really like that it's not so wet as a lot of the mascaras I've used Iin the past. It doesn't get all over me when I'm trying to apply it. I've tried those revolution glosses. I have one in coral, that smells Peachy, and one in berry that smells like raspberries. They really smooth my lips well. I'm tempted to try those milk toners. I've been so reluctant to try toners again because the last time I used them they were so astringent and made me break out even more. I didn't stop breaking out till I was 40. Now I have combo skin that is oily in summer, dry in winter. My autoimmune disease just makes everything worse. I got a tube of Clinique's Black Honey. It was worth it for a splurge! I'm going to post my pictures of Chincoteagur to my Gram page. Same name as here. You will definitely want to go when you see them!
I know what you mean! Toners back in the day used to be really astringent (I remember Sea Breeze, haha!) but these are nothing like that at all. They're very gentle and all they do is hydrate the skin rather than actually "toning" it. :)
Agree with Jen on this one. Toners have greatly improved. Just check the ingredients list and make sure they don't contain isopropyl alcohol (aka SD 40 alcohol or alcohol denat.), fragrance, or witch hazel. Avoid Clinique toners because they all contain alcohol, or did last time I checked. All that said, toner isn't an absolutely necessary skin care step.
You’re amazing and do such a great job. Thank you! L’Oréal had their double ended tubing mascara out for over a decade! My heritage is North African and we’ve been oiling our hair forever. Even growing up in the states we oil our hair once or twice a week and my husbands family from Ireland has also been doing it. Is social media just making a big deal because the younger generations don’t know about other cultures?
I love my Dae hair wand, I have baby fine hair and pull my hair back daily- it does not dry hard and no pilling/flaking. I found lip oil breaks down my covergirl lip stain pens so I use gloss over my pen stains. Loved the hourglass blushes and I love Revlon serum blush. When my Dae wand runs out, I’ll check out garnier
Jen, your efforts in putting together these comparison videos are so appreciated 😊❤ Another nice milky toner that's affordable is the Rice Ceramide one from the Face Shop! Ps, that crimped hair look is so cute on you!
I just love this video. I’ve been doing a lot of concoctions over the last few months, and I have really been enjoying the results. You gave me some fresh ideas, especially the blush ideas, and I can’t wait to try them! Anyone else use the Rare Beauty blushes on their lips? I use a touch of the Happy color in the center of my lipstick or lip liner which I applied all over. Such a pretty effect and it just changes the tone enough I don’t need to buy a whole new lipstick!
Hi Jen; happy Sunday! I have the Garnier Sleek & Shine Frizz Tamer and I am very pleased with it. I am going to keep this video for reference for future buys. Thanks!
Don’t forget to save a couple mascara wands when you toss your product! The silicone ones are great but can be a bit too bendy. I don’t think anyone needs ALL the wands they’ve used, but a few can be handy. lol I’m current obsessed with judydoll curling iron mascara which has a rod rather than a wand with teeth, not sure that will be useful, but I’ve got my eye on the Patrick ta wand in the tube that’s almost gone…
I really appreciate these videos! I absolutely love ELF’s lashxtender mascara, it’s my favourite at the moment❤️. I am putting the Milani lip oil on my shopping list, looks beautiful!
These are my favorite videos because high end aren't always what Tik Tok says the are. Bold lips & nude eyes are the trend for fall which is my every day look anyway so I'm going to try the two from Milani.
@@20thcenturyrelic that's what I'm seeing & hearing. I wear glasses and have sensitive eyes so I stopped wearing eye shadow and liner, except for special occasions, and don't like heavy looks any way. I've always loved lipstick and that's been my go to look for years. 💄 The Milani nude is my everyday natural choice. But I'm looking forward to fall colors
Yes! That Thayer toner was great! Thanks to your previous video. This big bottle will last a long time. Though my high end favorite toner is Lancôme (pink one).

These are my favorite videos because high end aren't always what Tik Tok says the are. Bold lips & nude eyes are the trend for fall which is my every day look anyway so I'm going to try the two from Milani.
and the reason they are pushed so heavily is creators earning more commission on selling a more expensive product.
I really like the Milani ones! Super moisturizing and taste good!
That's the fall trend? Great! That's my preferred look too. I love getting out my darker mauve and berry lipsticks in the fall.
Thanks for all these tips!
Love the Coconut oil and also purchased it on Abbey Young's recommendation. I use it on wet hair after shampooing and it makes my hair look like silk.
Wow what a great video. Good tips on the blushes ☺️. The other influencers need to takes notes 📝 n be on ur level ❤
Love the 90s vibe you're rocking in this video Jen!
Great suggestions! Can’t wait to try them out! 😊
Yes! That Thayer toner was great! Thanks to your previous video. This big bottle will last a long time. Though my high end favorite toner is Lancôme (pink one).
Thank you for an interesting and useful video😊😊😊
Great, informative video as usual. 10/10
