Team Trees has reached their $20 Million goal! This is an amazing day for UA-cam! BUT....WE CAN ALWAYS USE MORE TREES!!! Over achieving for this great cause is perfectly fine!
Yes I know I am super super late on this video. I was actually finishing this video today and when I started rendering the video, Team trees still had like $20,000 left to go. When I had only 5 minutes left to go, Team trees only had $5,000 left to go. I guess the lesson here is, don't wait if you want to make things happen lol.

DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth.
For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent. I just like examining popular tournament formats.

Teamtrees is a scam
I like the proactive approach and the thought behind it, but when it comes to "carbon" and such it's essentially useless, habitat wise it's great though, it'll give animals more space to live and it gets people thinking about the environment.

Honestly I would love for him to get a regional form, like maybe he's taken to imitating fire hydrants in the cities as a pure steel type, with like water absorb as an ability, maybe a new one that functions like a red card if he gets hit by an attack that sends him below 50% HP, and moves like Liquidation, Aqua Jet, Bullet Punch, etc.
Just a first thought
We are in gen 8 so we will see in gen 9...
Interesting, but it’s type should be something it doesn’t look like. If it resembled a metal fire hydrant, it shouldn’t be Steel type. It’s disguise as a tree makes newbies attack it with Fire/Flying attacks, which it resists, so a new form should fool players into attacking it with types it’s actually strong against.
For instance... if it were a Fire Hydrant, people might think it’s Steel, but in actuality it would be Flying, granting it an immunity to Ground and resisting Fighting.
Of course, that wouldn’t make any sense. But my point is it’s _actual_ type should be something players wouldn’t expect by looking at it.
@@bugjams that's a good point, I did think about this when I made it but I liked it being steel a lot, but if it should be any type it could benefit from looking steel but actually being water to bait fire, but also to explain why it would hang out where hydrants usually are, to soak up water
I want A mega of em
@@bugjamsMaybe a seemingly metal hydrant that is actually water type.
“How good was Sudowoodo?”
It was good at deceiving first timers that it was a grass type.
And a clever original idea for a pokemon
I thought it was fighting type at first,
It confused the crap out of 9 yr old me. That was for sure
i swear for so long up until gen 7 i thought he was a rock & grass type... this statement couldn't be any more true

@Anibal Salazar Eventually, yes, but there were times when it was viable, albeit in the lowest tiers, and that's not nothing.

Wondering why nobody uses this Statuscleaning berry. But maybe its access was to limited.
@@Sunaki1000
Gen 2 is super stall oriented. One status fixing berry (I think its the gold berry or something like that) isn't going to do much, and having a cleric like blissey or miltank was way better. I remember some niche strats like Alakazam or the gen 2 equivalent of chesto-resto saw "some" use
"Sudowoodo is the next best thing to a tree"
Tropius: Am I a joke to you?
Or Abomasnow. Kinda. Or those two ghost trees in Gen 6. Phantump and Trev something iirc
U N F O R T U N A T E L Y
Does Sawbuck count ?
@Ice Unfortunately Bananas or more accurately plantain are large herbs not trees as they lack any woody tissue
Dude Trevenent is the closest thing to a tree!
Sudowoodo = Pseudo-Wood-o
How did I not notice this earlier?
It’s because it’s based on petrified wood, which is a sort of fossil
And also: bonsly = "bons-lie" (vs "bonsai")
Sudowoodo needs a new regional form that looks absolutely identical, but is actually a grass type, with physical and special stats swapped vs. standard. It will now be a true fake tree/ fake rock, and opponents will not know which one it is, and how to appropriately check it.
that gave me a good laugh i love it
i like it, although not changing it at all i don't think would work. what if you gave it a grass type regional that does look significantly more tree-like, but give Sudowoodo a version of mimikyu's disguise that disguises it as the grass variant until it takes a hit.
@@neetskiparis1362 I think having them look exactly alike is just the best option. It's simple, and allows each variant a regular ability.
How good was a Surprise Upload ACTUALLY??!!
Ans: It's pretty good.
I read this as "suprise load"
And I was really confused
I remember first seeing Sudowoodo and thinking it's a grass type, before I realised it's Rock typing, its was already too late lmao. Got swept by a tree that's actually weak to watering cans.
Best experience I ever had in the Battle Frontier.
"It can scare off Flareon" is underhanded af.
Also, its not even failsafe as a banded superpower on the switch in wrecks sudowoodo
Hidden abilities had such high potential for Sudowoodo...
He could've gotten Sap Sipper as a Rock Type!!! It would lore-wise make sense that his "dream ability" would make him immune and even stronger by the typing that he longs to be :'(
Sudowoodo being outclassed by Graveler in Gen 2 (without eviolite) is a very bad omen
Edit: stupid autocorrect
In Gen 6 it was even outclassed by Onix as a Sun Setter because Onix was faster Sturdy Pokemon
As soon as I heard the NU staple Regirock outclassed this Pokemon
I knew there was nowhere to go but down

I hope that Sudowoodo is in Scarlet and Violet, and Terastalizes into a grass type.
Wish fulfilled.
The new Grass-type Gym Leader in Scarlet and Violet terastalizes one.
410 base stat rock - desperately needs an evolution to be at least viable in a playthrough.
Aaand it gets a pre-evolution instead...
The gimmick of a rock mimicing a tree could have been expanded more - too bad it never got the chance.
hey now, Mr Rime Exists. theres hope yet
There are six megas I still hope for gen 2 starters butterfree Rattacate and swoodowodo but ill probably never get my mega Rattacate 😞
410? Yikes. Power creep has not been kind. Even Furret and Dunsparce have a better BST, and meanwhile Masquerain got a +40 BST buff, even freakin’ Unfeazant of all things got an attack buff. No love for Gen 2 it seems...
@@nickshane9314 sudowoodo would be better off receiving a new evolutions instead

By the way, its german name is hilarious.
Its called Mogelbaum, literally Cheater-Tree.
It's name in English means "fake wood", so it's not that different.
Tree-ter.
Its french name is Simularbre, which is a portmanteau of Simuler (Pretend) and Arbre (Tree). So a mon that pretends to be a tree
Thats true it called Mogelbaum by us :3
I think it means mogel in terms of bluffing. It is bluffing to be a tree so it's a bluffing tree.
Sudowoodo in the anime: *runs around wildly*
Sudowoodo in the games: *30 speed*
wow, we're going through all the currently-untiered pokemon lately, huh?
I think a proper third evolution would do Sudowoodo's line a lot of good. A larger body with tree trunk 'cannon' arms, improved defenses and attack, with a Rock/Grass typing (to reflect the fact that he's turned into petrified wood). Call it something like 'Petreefied'.
0:16 thats a really aggressive sprite right there 😂
When he said " *unfortunately* " , you know things going down alright.
Came here to say. Sudowoodos dream of becoming a grass type has finally been fulfilled. The future is now
Imagine if you will, a mega sudowoodo. A forest that is actually a bunch of sudowoodo that gain an attack boost in the rain and their idle animation is them doing their side to side sway.
You already know the answer, baby
Edit: Damn, didn't think it'd go so hard in Gen 4. _nice_
Oh my god! I've been asking for this for around a year straight! Thank you so much for doing this
I just realized, at 25, "pseudo" woodo... Mindblown.
(First time I'm hearing its name since I was a kid)
No “In the cut” references...disappointed
I guess they let him polish the rock
Lando will sweep them
He's Mr. White
Hat is to the back
These rappers too wack, what them losers gon do?
How UNFORTUNATE are untiered Pokémon ACTUALLY?
There was actually a really cool doubles Shedinja strat that revolved around Sudowoodo. Sturdy Sudowoodo holding a custap berry would come out first with an entrainment pokemon. First turn the partner pokemon would use entrainment, and Sudowoodo would copy it with mimic. Second turn the entrainment pokemon would swap out for Shedinja, and Sudowoodo would use entrainment on it. With any luck Sudowoodo would take enough damage the first turn to activate custap berry and would get a priority entrainment, it was a really slick way of getting sturdy on Shedinja.
The Gen 2 encounter animation is absolutely glorious
This show really ROCKS
Wo a Thursday video? Awesome! What a treat man🍻
Awesome to see you supporting a good cause!
In the story I found catching Sudo more satisfying than most of the legendaries. It would taunt you by blocking your path for so long.
Holy cow, just what I needed on the commute home. ❤
Hope you played it full volume through the speakers.
Well, non of the pokemon that overshadowed Sudowoodo is in Galar, I wonder where he stands now.

Where's the dang 140 base attack stat from the anime at?
Maybe they'll give us a 140 attack Sudowoodo once they also give us Thunder Armor Swellow. 😂
@@cintronproductions9430 Thunder Armor Swellow could be a regional variant along with the Sudowoodo. Sudowoodo sadly needs more stat points like how they slightly buffed Nidoking and some others.
@@cintronproductions9430 I would love to see more regional variants and regional varients that have evolutions.
@@speedyav46 it needs an evolution.
@@robertharris6092 That's what I was saying but I was also saying it would be cool if it had a regional variant and an evolution from there. Alot of regional variants improved on the original Pokemon.
Sudo to me has the most cutest design for a Rock type.
I wish it really had that Grass typing and a much better offense overall.
Sudowoodo based on a petrified wood. So Rock-typing really make sense
Change the type and stats?
So basically, a Regional Form? :1
@@autobotstarscream765 Maybe
Kind of strange why Sudowoodo didn't have a Galarian form and evolution alongside Mr. Mime. A Rock/Grass type would be cool for one. Or just base Grass if that doesn't work.
I mean, weren't they considered varients in Gen 4 when they introduced Bonsly and Mime Jr? Kind of strange to me why they didn't do that in SwSh.
Having a duel-type doesn't always make a Pokemon better.
Sudowoodo was fun to use with a Bulu partner boosting its Rock Head Wood Hammers.
I may not be super competitive when it comes to Pokémon but these things are really intriguing honestly
Better late than never!

Can we talk about how goofy Sudowoodo’s running animation is in PBR?
The fact this thing got an pre-evolution and not an new evolution is just absurd. This thing deserves better.
I always thought Sudowoodo was rock and grass, instead of just rock
My prediction of getting a 3rd ice type mon in a row is wrong thanks to this video (still seems pretty great!)
FSG: *uploads on friday*
Sunday: Am I a joke to you?
So, my very first shiny was also my very first Sudowoodo. No joke, first time through Crystal version (I was slow to the party) I caught a shiny Sudowoodo. At the time I didn't know what his story was, I just thought they were supposed to look like that and named him Cherry. Took a solid month before I battled a friend with Cherry on my team to finally learn what the story was.
How about to end off the decade we cover all the past pokemon until now and see how they're doing in SwSh? I mean, the first pokemon covered came out before SuMo released.
Mentor of UA-cam No one knows much about SwSh tiers yet. Last I checked Smogon was still grinding away at finding all the changes to mechanics.
Fair point. I just got a bit overexcited
Well... lot of pokemon are not in SwSh...
Question: In the video at around 1:30 why was sudowoodoo's strategy to beat snorlax to explode rather than use Low Kick? Surely low kick would be better?
I'd say because Explosion is a base 500 power because it halves defenses rather than low kicks base 240 (120 max)
Ah, thanks for the replies, I checked and you're both right:
1.) Low kick in gen 2 was fixed at only base 50
2.) Explosion was effectively base 500 since it was 250 base but also halved the enemy defenses upon calculation.
Had a lurking suspicion this was Team Tree's related

How good was sudowoodu?

Well thats a wierd name when you only knew the german name before the video.
The English name effectively means the same thing.
Pseudo means false or fake, so it's literally fake-wood, which isn't too different from imposter-wood as translated from other languages.
Already gave money before but I'm glad you gave a shout out to team trees all the same.
I know people give this month grief for not being a grass type, but sudowoodo name I think means, fake wood. And camouflaging into a tree to hid from predators is pretty smart in my opinion.
