You inspired me to jump in and start screen printing. It always looked like a daunting job that needed a lot of materials. Thank you for all of your tutorials and sharing your experience with us.
I’m so glad to hear that! One of the reasons I fell in love with screen printing with vinyl was because I already had most of the supplies in my craft room!
Thank you so much, I tried my first screen print on a tester shirt today. I needed to apply more pressure some of my letters were faint. This video helped me so much.
I can't wait to try this. Wonderful instructions. One question, when you use your heat press, you don't have to put butcher paper, or parchment paper over the shirt to keep the ink from getting on the press?
So glad I found your channel gonna try this soon lol. I use DTF & plastisol transfers for my business. Always wanted to try screen printing the process is very cool.
Thank you for posting this video! I started screen printing and my first project was 4 sweatshirts and I wasted so much vinyl thinking I had to use a new one for each shirt 😢 now I know I don’t have to! My next project is close to 60 orders and I hope I get it right this time and it doesn’t bleed under the vinyl. Seems to be an issue for me.
You got this! That is so exciting, let me know how it turns out! Please let me know if you have any questions along the way. Be sure to check out this video too, may be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/mPqE86w81LE/v-deo.html
Your videos have inspired me and I finally screen printed my first project. I'm getting ready to do try my first multi colored project and am wondering if I need to let my screen dry after washing before moving on to the next color?
I love hearing that! If you are using the same screen for the second color, yes. You want to make sure that the screen is completely dry before adhering the vinyl for the next color. If you have two screens- once you finish the first color still wash that screen so the ink doesn’t dry. That will give the first layer of your design time to dry before you print the second (you want that to be completely dry before placing the next screen on top)
@@pigskinsandpigtails Thank you for the quick reply! I will work on the project this week. I appreciate the tip about cleaning the first screen right away. My project is 3 colors and I only have 2 screens.
Thanks! This method is best when you just need the design one time-the vinyl will start to come off when you wash the screen. Check out this video to see how I make a permanent screen that can be washed and reused over and over again: ua-cam.com/video/w_A1V5IUM5Y/v-deo.html
There are lots of different screen sizes out there- I have a few aluminum frame screens that you might recognize from some of my videos. I have them in 16x20” sizes, but there are some even larger! www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/aluminum-frame-16-20-frame-110mesh
question, so if i have a screen with a vinyl template on it, and i use the screen once, can i wash it with the template still on and have the template stay on and then reuse it??
If you are really careful, you may be able to wash and reuse the screen with adhesive vinyl, but I don’t recommend it. If you have a design that you know you are going to want to reuse, I recommend making a permanent screen with HTV instead: ua-cam.com/video/w_A1V5IUM5Y/v-deo.html
This is Oracal 651. You can learn all about the vinyl that I recomend in this video: Best Vinyl for Screen Printing with Cricut ua-cam.com/video/w_A1V5IUM5Y/v-deo.html
Thank youu for all these great tutorials!! I tried this method and one of the problems I encountered is there’s a bleed on the back of the frame after one print. And this stains the fabric and also not giving a sharp detail of the design. Does this also happen to you?
I’m glad you liked the tutorials! When you are going over the design with your squeegee, be sure to use a good amount of pressure and try to keep it at the same angle all the way across the screen. Some materials will absorb ink faster than others, you may only need one or two swipes. Going over too many times can also cause the ink to bleed.
😜 you can learn more about the dot trick here: ua-cam.com/video/0MtDBWl2Eh8/v-deo.html and in my “How to Size and Align Designs” guide: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/design-sizing-guide-for-screen-printing/
@@pigskinsandpigtails ok. Im confused with the screen print method because i made a design and after cutting i wasn't sure with pieces to take out and which to leave. I was trying to do a skull hand but i was so lost
In this video I’m using Oracal 651 (permanent vinyl). Check out this video where I go over the two types of vinyl I use and when: ua-cam.com/video/w_A1V5IUM5Y/v-deo.html
What kind of vinyl are you using? Using the right vinyl and making sure that your screen mesh is tight will help make sure that the vinyl stays on the screen. I recommend Oracal 651: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/oracal-651
I know you have a video on bleeding, but what should I do if ink DOES get under the vinyl after only a couple uses? Should I wash the entire screen with the vinyl still on?
I would try to get the ink off the back with a qtip. If that doesn’t work, you can try washing the screen. Sometimes the vinyl will come off so just keep that in mind if you decide to wash it.
I have a dilemma. Since vinyl comes on tightly wound rolls. I'm finding it difficult to to eliminate the wrinkles left by being rolled up. Would heating the vinyl slightly help flatten it.
I haven’t tried that, so I’m not sure. I wonder if it would be helpful if you unrolled the vinyl and placed something on top so that it could rest flat for a while? If you are screen printing a lot and going through lots of vinyl, you may want to consider investing in a big roll of vinyl. I find that having the vinyl on a large roll helps keep it nice and flat: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/oracal-651-rolls
You can use other screen printing inks- I prefer to use water based inks because it is easy to clean up. I have used plastisol inks with this method as well.
I don’t recommend it- that will dry in the screen really quickly. Screen printing ink will give you a longer working time. Here’s an affiliate link to the Speedball fabric ink I’m using:www.amazon.com/shop/pigskinsandpigtails/list/1LG74C3G1H3ZI?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsfpigskinsandpigtails_JAF5V956P0BC03MJ9B97
Pretty but seems so time consuming. What’s the difference between this and sublimation in new to the whole crafting process so trying to find something less time consuming beautiful job though
Screen printing is ideal when you want to make multiple shirts/projects (I also just love the way a screen printed shirt feels!). Once the screen is set up, I can make hundreds of really high quality prints.
Thank you so much for this information, very informative and essential to know if you're into the screen printing industry
Glad it was helpful!

Give it a try! As long as the ink has air dried completely (ideally 24-48 hours), it’s fine to heat press without parchment paper

I think you can only sublimate on polyester shirts. You can screenprint on cotton.
Great video but you shouldn’t put paint down the sink, it’s very bad for the water system, environment, and pipes.
