I've been in doubt for the last 6 months about whether switching to DJI or HDZero for my long range quads and this really settled the debate. For me, at least. Thank you!
If I was considering the system, you are 100% right, it would be freedom to choose an alternative. The issue I have is for existing users, like me. I chose a system based upon it's capabilities at that point in time. They're changing those capabilities which removes the freedom to choose to adhere to it or not.
Soon all companies will have to comply to these new rules. These aren't DJI's rules. These are the FCC'S RULES! You're hating on the first company to comply to new rules ALL FPV companies will have to comply to soon! DUMB! HATE ON THE FCC, IT'S THEIR RULES!!!!! 🤔🧐👍
RemoteID also requires GNSS coordinates of the aircraft, as well as the pilot. The o3 unit does not have gps module, so they cant force you to comply with Remoteid. Consideing DJI is a consumer company, its normal that they try to make consumer products and people have been mad they have to plug their phone to the goggles when they fly with the avata. So this is the primary motivation for the GPS module.
They read GPS data from the telemetry on your FC. I just checked the SRT files from my O3 Air unit on the weekends flights which do not have a GPS connected, GPS enabled nor do they have any GPS elements in the OSD. Yet only GPS data is in the SRT file
@@DarrenAllatt they read GNSS data from the FC, if there is GNSS reciever connected to the FC. I dont use GPS on my quads, so I dont care, but I can see somebody flying long range who might be concerned.
This is the FCC's rules. DJI is simply complying to the new rules. Sure, they are the first, but they want to come out with LAW ABIDING PRODUCTS, because very soon, all companies will have this same exact law to comply too! They want their new products to be able to be used after the law goes into effect. All other companies will have to comply to this law, the FCC IN THE USA, out in place. Hate on the FCC. It's their rules. DJI is just the first to follow the rules. Other companies will be following them too. 🤷🤦🥴
As of now this is all speculation. For avata users they dont have to go into the app to get flying with the integra. If dji enforced such a thing pretty much alot of users will be flocking to walksnail and fatshark systems.
But, you're missing the point! Remote ID is not a law DJI out in place! This is the FCC in the USA. DJI is simply one of the first to put out a product complying to the new rules that go into effect soon. OTHER COMPANIES, LIKE WALKSNAIL AND HDZERO, ETC. NEED TO COMPLY TO THE FCC's RULES TOO! This may seem like another reason for haters to hate on DJI. But, it has nothing to do with DJI! IT'S NOT THEIR RULES! It's the FCC's rules, so hate on them. All companies have to comply, not just DJI! Your hating on a company, not the source of the issue... The FCC!
@@KOrnhOliO1 Yes you are right. If it is the law then it is the law. No two ways about it. I just hope that these rules don‘t spill over in the EU too. Don‘t want to be carrying any more weight on my drone.
Thanks for this video! I think I'm gonna speed up my research on possible workarounds : 1 - base station: Install Android on a Raspberry, and spoof GPS position. Then connect the raspberry to goggles instead of a normal phone. I know you can do it with any Android, but I want to be extra paranoid, and raspberry has no onboard GPS that can be hijacked from any software. 2 - fork Betaflight and start learning how the GPS code works with the MSP protocol. Then spoof the outgoing GPS data to the MSP, and keep the real GPS coordinates just for my RTH functionality.
I said this would happen at the very start of DJI making it's way into fpv. Everybody said I was crazy lmao. Who wants to go go fly some hdzero or analog!!💯
And to think the Ukrainians were killed by the very same company’s triangulation for the ccp. Russia killed these operators because their locations were compromised. In this exact same way by this exact same company.
Thank you for the info! HDZero or Walksnail will get my business when I go for the digital change. My Fatshark HDO2 analogs with a RapidFire receiver are good enough for now, especially after I upgraded my cameras.
Walksnail or HDZero will still not let you avoid legal requirements though. That tech may not be in the goggles or the vtx - but there will be no avoiding it
@@ScowlerJase my country doesn’t have this tracking requirement. Why should I have DJI tracking me when it’s not the local law. Most FPV pilots in the world live outside the USA. DJI is punishing customers in countries that have no tracking requirements. HDZero is open source so there will easily be a way to get the system without this tracking rubbish.
@@zuldanfpv4634 DJI will probably , as they do now, determine where you are located and adjust the need to use remoteid or not accordingly. They won’t produce a specific version just for your country , they’ll control it in software. Just like the drones now determine if they are in an FCC country or a CE one and adjust their power output.
@@ScowlerJase correct. We that use Walksnail or HDzero will have to buy the module is my understanding but at least we aren’t being forced into compliance. Walksnail and Hdzero may have to comply by making a firmware that checks for said module but I’m willing to bet we still won’t be forced into loading said firmware.
i'm going to be using goggles 2 for sub-250g drones which means i don't need remote id. will the goggles 2 still force me to use remote id? after i activate goggles 2 and o3 air unit, can i then run them offline moving forward or do i still need to connect a phone even when they are already activated?
DJI devices with GPS already restrict where you can fly. Case in point - I've recently participated in a number of Big Top Drone Racing events at Australian Air Shows. Now, these race events meet the CASA regulations, in that we are essentially indoors (under a circus tent) and have netting around all the sides, so a Drone cannot escape the confines of the track. At both the most recent events, I have seen people try to use the DJI Avata insdie on the track, but they cannot arm because the GPS says they are in an airfield (which admittedly they are) but, they then have to go and unlock some features to be able to bypass that restriction to fly the drone. So companies enforcing restrictions like these can't compensate for when there are exceptions granted by authorities to the regulations. Another example is the Australian Drone Nationals last year. That event was held within 5km of an airfeld, but an exception was granted by CASA. If someone had these goggles with GPS in them, i wonder if they could have been able to operate them at the event.
Welcome to the new digital world. This effect will pop up more and more. Not only on drones stuff. I recommend to follow the rules. Or change the hobby...
@@DarrenAllatt Temporary Flight restriction. What I'm really asking is whether the goggles will make a drone abide by geofencing. I often fly indoors in places near airports and if the goggles prevent me from taking off then it'll be a non starter.
No, I stated that I understand their position because they are ultimately liable. But I’ve got existing gear where I should be free to choose whether I comply or not
@@DarrenAllatt sorry Darren, wasn’t meaning you , as you say you clearly say you understand DJI position as a business. I was meaning all the people who pile on DJI whenever they implement or include tech that will one day be mandatory. DJI are planning ahead, they know that at some point , they will not be allowed to sell this tech without the built in remoteid etc. To me it’s a bit like people slamming Car manufacturers for fitting seatbelts - they were forced to, initially you had the choice to Elise them or not, then the law said you had to.
@@DarrenAllatt come on now. All this talk about freedom. You freely choose to buy the product. It’s a like you’re trying to support both side with your statement. You can be with and against DJI at the same time. You mention you understand don’t seem like you really do. Seems like you want the option to enable Remote ID only when benefits you.
Honestly, your video helped convince me to get the Goggles 2 Integra. Sounds like they're making it as easy as possible to be in compliance with the law, something I've been concerned about as the September deadline for RemoteID approaches.
I agree, maybe I'm a sheep, but I prefer to stay compliant. I'm in this hobby for fun and relaxation and don't want to add more to worry about. Plus the convenience aspect is what convinced me to purchase a pair.
Someone who understands. RemoteID is not a DJI thing, it's an aviation authority requirement for drones. Japan has been requiring it for a while. US is making it mandatory 2023 and EU is expected to implement it next year.
@@mrgrantsr The only thing to worry about is losing your places to fly. When your "compliant" the "app" decides when and where you can fly. Make no mistake - this is all for commercial and gov't control of low-altitude class G airspace so that they can fly and YOU can't.
Yeah, you do already now need to plug your iPhone into the Goggle V2's for the DJI Avata and I bought the Avata pretty early but it already had the RID firmware on it. But then you don't get the 10-bit color upgrade and the other small upgrades they did. Plus, I think that includes the "Yaw Tumble Fix" problem... I can't stand having to plug my iPhone into the USB-C port on my V2's. I don't really fly it anymore bc of my Fpv drones, but that also didn't help lol. Then you need to launch the DJI Fly App with the Drone already on and connected, wasting battery, and then hope that the DJI Fly app works the first time and the Avata Screen pops up to hit FLY. Then I'm supposed to leave it plugged in for no reason or i get that stupid yellow error bar in the bottom right hand side of my Goggles Screen the entire time. My iPhone's usb/charging port also isn't the best so that just adds to the frustration and hate towards it lol. But yeah, usually i would waste about 10% of my battery with the Avata, from just sitting there and waiting for some signal from the DJI Fly app on the phone, thru the goggles, and to the Drone. All to say RID is ready ATM. The part that always bothered me is that the DJI Avata has a built-in GPS... So it knows where it took off from and it knows where it is and its broadcasting RID. Why do I need the phone which i can just immediately disconnect after arming anyway? Makes no sense. This video is exactly why I've been hesitant to get the Goggles 2 or even the Goggles 3. But if the 3's have a GPS chip inside, then i think that would be a deal breaker for me until I had too. They could easily add a GPS to an O4 Air Unit, and then we might be stuck with RID if you want to go with anything newer than the Vista's and O3 Air Unit's...
Is this why my Goggles 2 order had been back ordered for over three months now, so that DJI can ramp up production on the cucked up version of the G2? Man, HDZero is looking better and better every day, I may end up just canceling my DJI order before they even get to me at this rate...
This won't affect your drone that you built, this is for the drones that they sell because they are a company. it's impossible for them to put remote I'd in your quadcopter that you built, because the Vista or the o3 unit is not a drone, it's a video system. it's up to the user whether you put that on a car or anything else, it's up to the user how are you going to use that video system. So say a user get caught without a remote I.D. only the user will get affected, because the actual dji part of your drone don't fly, only the quad that you built. That's why they will not put remote I.D on Vista and O3 unit, because not putting a remote I.D. on the Vista or O3 unit will not get them in trouble.
This applies for the vista also, since the vista doesn't have a gps, and there's just no hardware for it because when the vista is created, remote id is not a big deal.
Io gia qualche anno fa ero arrivato a queste conclusioni infatti cio sempre azzeccato. Cmq buon volo a tutti
@@DarrenAllatt I was wondering if there is some kind of alert that is popping up in some kind of control center, I hope remote id is only available in range
@@DarrenAllatt what I meant to ask is, do dji share information of all drones that are currently flying so affectively there is no need for authorities to spot you or be in range of the remote Id ( I assume DJI knows about every flight taking place)
@@mazivco I’m going to try to give you a legitimate answer first, then my own answer. let’s for a moment assume that DJI somehow wanted to know when any of their products were in the air, and where they were- for starters for DJI to know that, they’d need to be connected to the internet, so you’d have your smartphone connected to the drone in some way. So any drone connected to any smartphone has the technological potential to report telemetry back to a centralised server somewhere. Then since it’s a connection to the internet, the government could access that connection between your smartphone and DJI’s servers. Let’s say the government couldn’t because it’s E2E encrypted, and they couldn’t break the encryption- then do you think a Chinese Company who is backed by the Chinese Government would be willingly sharing information with US Government Agencies? There is also the question; can the government just listen to any radio signal whether it’s your controller or video transmitter and then work out where your drone is by listening to the signal.. as long as there is a receiving device like a mobile tower within range, it’s possible. So it’s not completely outside of the realm of possibility for the Government to be technically able to know exactly where your drone is when flying and have all the telemetry data. Ok - that’s the legitimate answer - now for my personal answer. In all seriousness, no one actually cares about some dude flying a drone in a park. So whatever paranoia you have about the government being able to spy on you, is just overestimating your own importance and over exaggerating the significance of why they would bother. You also used the internet and a google account to write this comment, watch this video, you probably use a smartphone too an- they already know everything about you anyway, so you’re screwed to put it politely. To be blunt, anyone who could possibly be a threat to national security who may fly a drone as a bad actor is already going to be under surveillance anyway. Plus, they can just punch out a mass of RF noise towards the drone to stop any bad actor doing anything. Worrying about all of this shit is frankly a waste of mental & emotional energy - so why bother, just go out and fly and get on with it.
W A I T ! ! ! Why has NO ONE EVER done a COMPLETE review of Goggles Integra? Look it up. It's ALWAYS a comparison of G2 vs Integra or Goggles V2 vs. Integra. WHAT I NEED TO KNOW is Why is it if I'm shooting in DLOG starting from DJI RC and then lift off startup Goggles Integra and have to hit Record AGAIN but then I'm shooting in STANDARD color and NOT DLOG ONLY because I switched from DJI RC to Goggles Integra? I know most of you are just FPV people but for Christs sake, I paid $500 for Integra! I don't want to use the stupid little hand held thing to fly the drone, I want to use my thumbs on DJI RC!!! On the OLD WHITE BRICK goggles, I could put those on a friend BUT STILL BE ABLE to see through my phone where I was flying! This many years later and I have to CHOOSE either see thru the goggles OR see thru the RC........W T F !
this is yet another reason why im never updating my dji goggles v2! On the newest firmware version I cant even apply the FCC hack so Ive been in an old version ever since.. amazing how DJI discontinued the better version then 😅
FCC hack is about the power output laws governed by the FCC, while remote id governed by the FAA. So you’d possibly be able to still do the FCC hack in Europe
@@DarrenAllatt as far as I know (Vista) FCC hack in Europe means that you tell the Vista with a simple text file that you are in US not in the EU. I'm afraid the Integra with a GPS in it will know that you're cheating.
@@sunnysys no that’s incorrect. Naco.txt doesn’t tell the Vista that you are in Europe or not in the US. It tells the Vista to remove the output power limitation. Which has nothing to do with Remote ID. The FCC is completely unrelated to the FAA. The FCC is the Federal Communications Commission and it governs and regulates completely seperate laws to the FAA which is the Federal Aviation Authority.
Exactly the reason I wasn't interested in any DJI VTX/VRX setup. Hopefully Fatshark isn't pulling data from the FC like DJI is. If that is the case, then it's back to 1.3/433 for LR stuff.
Great content. I just bought a Integra FPV goggles. I cant figure out how to enable, "custom OSD" / BetaFlight OSD in the settings. Anyone point me to this feature in the settings.
If they haven't thought of all this stuff they have now cuz you just gave him the idea oh yeah I totally get what you're saying the possibilities are certainly there
Oscar Liang has also published it on his website in the article about them and it's in the B&H Video "DJI Goggles Integra & RC Motion 2: A More Immersive Experience!" That's the point, they don't mention it anywhere on purpose.
Its just a matter of time until a competitor steps in and takes the market the way DJI business practices are. Then again, they be milking the consumer for those green backs with their biz practices. Competition is good
It's not like all the other companies don't have to comply and DJI is doing this to you! No. THIS IS THE FCC. DJI is simply complying to the rules the FCC has put in place. They aren't the bad guys. If you don't like remote ID, that's the FCC... DJI has nothing to do with remote ID. They're just doing what they're told. Other companies will have to comply too. They just are waiting until the deadline, which I think is Sept. 2023, or did they move it out further, I can't remember?
Dude. There are a thousand ways around this. I fly DJI version 1 everything. No problems. I have 8 air units and they are all updated to their last ever update and it’s fine! It works great. I will fly V1 until they are all dead. That might take years. I will not update firmware or hardware until my V1 shit is all dead and it works great. My God it was the greatest thing ever 2 years ago and it’s still damn good enough to do just about anything. Updating is a scam. If your shit works keep using it.
Come on man! Don't be stupid! Think it through! These aren't DJI's rules! These ARE THE FCC'S RULES! DJI is just the first to put out a product to comply to the new rules... EVERY COMPANY WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW! YOU'RE HATING ON THE WRONG COMPANY! HATE ON THE FCC... IT'S THEIR RULES! Are you guys really stupid enough to not see these rules aren't DJI's rules? They are simply the first to come out with a product that complies to the new rules EVERY COMPANY WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW! IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE! DOTE! THESE AREN'T DJI'S RULES! THEY ARE THE FCC'S RULES AND EVERY COMPANY WILL HAVE DO COMPLY TO THEM, so hate on the FCC. IT'S THEIR RULES! GEEZ! 🤷🤦🥴
If this happens with my vista V2 set up.. I'm switching to HDzero or walksnail. DJI as a company loses customers. They will lose a TON of customers if they do this. 🤷♂️
The law will never force dji to put remote ID on an air unit. The law says it has to be on BNF/RTF drones. It says nothing about putting it on a video system. So there are no regulations that exist like that. They might give you the option but it's highly doubtful it will ever be forced on the 03 air unit.
I didn’t say there were regulations that would force DJI to make the Air Unit (VTX) a Broadcast Module. I stated that it would be the most logical & simplest implementation & solution, if it was the case.
I’m not sure Dji would be liable. They would be liable for the Avata unless DJI can prove the pilot tinkered with it. With the 03 AU, they are only one component in a fpv built by amateurs with average soldering skills. I realize they have the deep pockets, but I suspect they will defend from liability. It may be difficult or cheaper to not distinguish AUs built for the Avata from those sold to fpv and other rc such as cars/trucks. If so, then the code is just left in the files. Could the rc trucks/cars be locked out? That would be a WTF I also believe the Goggles 2 (not V2; possibly already discontinued) will be discontinued; shortly.
I believe the O3 Air Unit would become a broadcast module through a firmware update, it's capable of being so. So if it becomes a broadcast module, then DJI need to ensure compliance as the regs require them to.
Reading the comments is really demoralizing. All these people "scared" of big brother (although there's no enforcement) and begging to be in compliance with their dubious dictates. Kind of explains how "we" find ourselves in this global quagmire. Thanks, Darren.
Great, but why all the constant flailing hand waiving. When holding a drone for audience view, why shake it all over the place so we can't get a look at it. Stop waiving your hands, sit on them if you have to. You are not alone, most amateur video presenters do the same. Yes it's natural to talk with hands but I have to just close my eyes and listen. Then it's OK, and great, information is so helpful and I do thank you sincerely for your channel.
I don’t see how this would be bad for the hobby. Reckless drone use is the whole reason that these laws have been forced on all segments of the hobby. It will only get worse if that kind of usage continues.
I believe without a doubt that DJI will when the law requires them to, force pilots to comply with Remote ID who use an O3 Air Unit. Does it affect you from flying now with O3, no, but come September 2023 when compliance to Remote ID is required, it will. You should also know this if you are Let me explain, then call me crazy. The First Image is the SRT file from the O3 Air Unit that is on my "Premium 5" Freestyle Build" from the weekend. As you saw in that video, I didn't put a GPS on it. I also don't have GPS enabled, nor any GPS elements enabled in my OSD on that build. ua-cam.com/video/KPbxJIGjb0k/v-deo.html I know DJI have said that the O3 Air Unit does not have a Remote ID module in it. However, there is no legitimate reason for the SRT file to contain Latitude, Longitude, as well as Relative & Absolute Altitude if there is ZERO intention around forcing Remote ID compliance through it's Air Units. The Second Image is from inside my Goggles v2 showing that the Goggles have all the data about the devices connected to them. Here my Hypothesis as to how they could force Remote ID Compliance 1) When activating DJI O3 Air Unit or Goggles, it stores a unique ID in the device (you use your email to activate) and you also have to bind your Air Units and Goggles together. 2) We know the Air Units and Goggles constantly communicate between each other. 3) DJI Goggles Integra have internal GPS while Googles 2 require a smartphone for the Avata because it has a "Remote ID capability built into the drone". Which requires the Control Station location to be broadcast. However, many believe that Hobby FPV falls under the scenario where if a drone doesn't have remote id capability built in, then scenario 2 applies which requires a module to be added. For Drones with a module, there is no requirement for the control location to be broadcast. This leads us to consider the manufacturers requirements which are they can only sell drones with an internal remote id module. This would be the largest channel of sales for DJI for Air Units, and put their sales to companies like iFlight, Diatone, GepRC etc at risk. So this leads me to contemplate, that the DJI O3 Air Unit can become the Remote ID module itself. Except, it doesn't have GPS, but it doesn't actually need it. 4) The DJI O3 Air Unit reads the telemetry through MSP. As you can see from the SRT file, it includes GPS data (I don't have GPS enabled in BF or GPS OSD elements enabled either). The same elements which are required for Remote ID Broadcast and also Logs. Both are required for compliance to remote ID laws. 5) The DJI O3 Air Unit and Goggles both have wifi broadcast capabilities, after-all our video is broadcast on 5.8ghz using Wifi standards. Given the Air Unit reads & transmits GPS data, it could certainly broadcast it out during the flight to meet the Broadcast requirements. The same with the Goggles either transmitting the control station location to the Air Unit for Broadcast, or Broadcasting it itself. But here is where this hypothesis gets scary and I go a little crazy. Why would DJI even want to do this. Well, they will ultimately be liable. We have seen companies like Apple & Samsung be fined for how their users use their devices where they were blamed for not putting enough safeguards in to ensure users of their products adhered to the laws. Same applies here. 6) My hypothesis now extends to enforceability. If there is not valid GPS data from the Air Unit to the Goggles that would ensure the user of DJI products were compliant with remote ID regulations, then I could foresee that DJI would stop the video feed in the Goggles to prevent the user from flying. 7) But what about just not updating your firmware. Well, I hypothesise that since the O3 Air Unit has its own clock (I knew the date & time of my flights for the DVR), the ability to lock out pilot for non compliance can be already in the code just waiting for the 16th September 2023 when Remote ID is enforceable to lock out non-compliance users. 8) What if 7 isn't true that it's not already in the code, but a future firmware version. Well, Remote ID has been a thing since prior to the date of the first firmware version, so there is the potential that there is already something in the code. But let's say there isn't. You could be fine with existing units, but if you buy a new one which you then have to activate & bind to use, there could be a handshake that checks for a valid firmware version that would enforce compliance. If either Goggles or Air Unit are not running a compliant firmware version, then there can be provisions in either device to either not transmit or display video until compliant firmware is installed. They did that with the Avata when they wanted to enforce it, they can do it here. Now, you can call me crazy, but watch this video where I talk about this for the DJI Goggles Integra - ua-cam.com/video/JJ9ar8ReTZ4/v-deo.html
Worse yet they will target us in military applications just as was done in Ukraine. This has already happened it is not an idea or thought these people died because of DJI and the CCP
Don't worry, even if this somehow came to pass (can't see how it would make any sense, but let's assume it does): The system is not tamperproof, you could just spoof the GPS. They can't take away your ability to break the law. What I'm more worried about is, will added availability of RID systems encourage lawmakers to pass more strict regulations. Which would suck for those who must obey the rules.
darren is 100% right here dji has no mention of gps unit or remote id on dji store why be so sneaky about it as it looks like a lot of fpv pilots have capitulated and are begging to have remote id
@@DarrenAllatt I know what your saying mate but it seems like no one else in the community is pissed about it just because it’s law doesn’t make it right there have been no accidents on mass scale with drones to justify this look on British aviation authorities web site they are claiming a dji phantom was flying next to a passenger plane going 600mph 33000 feet in the air with a clearly photoshopped picture as there evidence
@@DarrenAllatt i have watched several videos and all apart from youself seem more than happy to comply what next once remote id if up and running they could limit your flights and distance your drone can travel

im allready worried that i cant but a new dji air unit anywhere. i have 2 drones but they wil prob never have proper replacement unless you go for the less ones like runcam wasp or whatever but air units are allready extinct in stores unless you buy a cinewhoop or a prebuild just for the air unit
Well have have these's goggles with O3 air units and have flown in area's not allowed a bunch of times ,nothing happens ever only if you fly a Dji drone that has a id chip in it is the only way it makes a difference so if you fly your built fpv drone your fine just don't advertise were you fly and don't cause problems that you will get you called on that's the only way you will get caught there is no dark secret with theses' goggles the gps only works with a remote id installed on your drone, so dont put one on and stay away from area's you can get caught just be safe its easy
I recently try to fly next to airport and it made me input my phone number the sent me code through text and click on assume responsibility if anything happened and then I was able to fly...
What is the problem with remote id ? If you use dji staff they will make you anyway do whataver they ask you to connect. Or you afraid that everybody will spy after you ?
I actually like this idea I want the new googles ❤ I’m currently plugging my phone into my googles though. I’ll be buying them mostly likely. Unless they raise the weight from 240grams to 1 kilogram.
Some additional thoughts, as well as my thoughts on how Remote ID could be enforced even though an O3 Air Unit doesn't have GPS. Firstly the final rule on Remote ID, includes the requirement for the Control Station or Take Off Location to also be broadcast, not just the Drone. So GPS in the Integra as well as Smartphone Connection for the Goggles 2 allows DJI to meet the requirement for Control Station. But, Let's go through this logically. You need to activate your O3 Air Unit and Goggles using your DJI account (with your email). O3 Air Unit and Goggles have unique serial numbers, You need to bind your O3 Air Unit and your Goggles. The O3 Air Unit and your goggles are actively transmitting and receiving data once they are powered on and bound. In the Goggles, About Menu, lists: - Air Unit Firmware version # - Remove Controller Firmware version # - Googles Firmware version # - Air Unit Serial Number - Remote Controller Serial Number - Goggles Serial Number - Camera Serial Number The O3 Air Unit, does not need a GPS signal. Especially if the Goggles have a valid GPS signal for the pilot. The Integra has an internal GPS. For Goggles 2, they can force a smartphone connection to get a valid GPS signal. For Hobby/Enthusiast FPV Drones, DJI can meet the requirements of the Control Station (assumed take off location) for Remote ID. The Drones that an O3 Air Unit goes into can only be flown at a FRIA without the requirement to be broadcasting the Drones Remote ID. So a Valid GPS signal from the Integra or a Smartphone to the Goggles 2, can confirm that the pilot is in a FRIA. If the Pilot Location is not confirmed to be in a FRIA, then they can withhold the video feed unless there is GPS on the Drone. The Goggles have their own internal storage & processor, so completely plausible. Remember in the Original Goggle OSD, the Air Unit transmitted the GPS data from the flight controller which it read via MSP for it to then be rendered inside the DJI's native OSD. So, yes it can use your drones GPS module. The O3 Camera has a Gyro, so it can meet the requirement for velocity.
Own safety is a stretch. accountability & transparency yes. problem I have with remote id, is that the regs are too restrictive if you just want to go to a park and fly
But, you're missing the point! 🤷 Remote ID is not a law DJI put in place! This is the FCC in the USA. I am invested in DJI, it's all my money not given to me by DJI. There is risk they can move the goalposts and remove my freedom of choice to comply or not is the problem. I can hate on the FAA for making it law, but a company forcing me to comply with my existing gear of theirs is an issue.
@@DarrenAllatt But, it seemed like you were blaming DJI. They have nothing to do with the laws. They are simply the first to comply to them, before them are a law, so their products will have a longer sell life. Maybe you did mention it, I forget, but I think you didn't mention how ALL FPV COMPANIES WILL HAVE TO COMPLY WITH THIS LAW. Not just DJI, who just happened to be ahead of the law, and be the first to comply. Making it seem like it is a DJI thing, and not saying other companies will be complying to this law, is not the correct message to send to your viewers, IMO.
what's the big deal? They just follow the law. You can't complain about having to abide to a law by using a product that has no choice than follow that same law. Fly with something other than DJI. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Plus, It's a known fact that DJI has never cared about making things convenient for its customers...so it really is a useless rant
@@DarrenAllatt Then don't update your gear. Anyway, in the case you are obliged to update the firmware, it's not like you are forbidden to fly with your gear. You just don't have the freedom to fly your gear illegally. They make that choice of legality for you. As you mentioned in your video, they're just covering their asses by making it impossible to misuse their products. Can they be blamed for that? No. Is it heavy handed and consumer unfriendly? Sure it is but it's their right and they got the law with them. Hard to argue when you tiptoe your way around illegality. DJI is known to be unfriendly to their customers. Buy something else. It's not like nobody knew this was coming.
I get that you enjoy the rant, but what are your solutions to the problems? To just rant without providing solutions is a sign of complete ignorance. What is the accountability to real problems?? Fool-proof plans fail to account for the ingenuity of a dedicated fool. How dedicated are you?

I've been in doubt for the last 6 months about whether switching to DJI or HDZero for my long range quads and this really settled the debate. For me, at least.
Thank you!
It does not remove your freedom to chose. Your choice is just expanded to either choosing to use DJI or not.
If I was considering the system, you are 100% right, it would be freedom to choose an alternative. The issue I have is for existing users, like me. I chose a system based upon it's capabilities at that point in time. They're changing those capabilities which removes the freedom to choose to adhere to it or not.
If they can change the unit after i purchase it, I should be able to choose to get a refund on it after they change it.

Sure, they are the first, but they want to come out with LAW ABIDING PRODUCTS, because very soon, all companies will have this same exact law to comply too! Thanks for this video! I think I'm gonna speed up my research on possible workarounds :
1 - base station: Install Android on a Raspberry, and spoof GPS position.
Then spoof the outgoing GPS data to the MSP, and keep the real GPS coordinates just for my RTH functionality.
interesting
Got any info on whether you got this to work or not? Maybe a link to a walkthrough or something? 😁
Ultimately, the freedom of choice lies with the consumer. Don't like it... don't buy it.
Agree, but if you already have gear, there should not be the possibility of ever removing that freedom of choice.
HDZero Goggles + Rapidfire is really nice
They won’t produce a specific version just for your country , they’ll control it in software. i'm going to be using goggles 2 for sub-250g drones which means i don't need remote id. will the goggles 2 still force me to use remote id?
after i activate goggles 2 and o3 air unit, can i then run them offline moving forward or do i still need to connect a phone even when they are already activated?
Glad i ordered hdzero
Welcome to the new digital world. This effect will pop up more and more. Not only on drones stuff. I recommend to follow the rules. Or change the hobby...

Will using the integra goggles keep you from taking off in a TFR?
What’s a TFR?
@@DarrenAllatt Temporary Flight restriction. What I'm really asking is whether the goggles will make a drone abide by geofencing. I often fly indoors in places near airports and if the goggles prevent me from taking off then it'll be a non starter.
If you are flying a DJI made Drone like the Avata, yes and the Goggles 2 will as well
Everyone seems to be having a go at DJI - for having to comply with regulations! You are attacking the wrong people.
No, I stated that I understand their position because they are ultimately liable. But I’ve got existing gear where I should be free to choose whether I comply or not
@@DarrenAllatt sorry Darren, wasn’t meaning you , as you say you clearly say you understand DJI position as a business. Honestly, your video helped convince me to get the Goggles 2 Integra. Sounds like they're making it as easy as possible to be in compliance with the law, something I've been concerned about as the September deadline for RemoteID approaches.
Glad the video was helpful :)
Walksnail x Caddx for the win!! Glad I chose walksnail
Mads Tech has said the Caddx Avatar HD system has the same technical capabilities as DJI O3 to become a broadcast module.

Is this why my Goggles 2 order had been back ordered for over three months now, so that DJI can ramp up production on the cucked up version of the G2? Man, HDZero is looking better and better every day, I may end up just canceling my DJI order before they even get to me at this rate...
HDZero is just about to release 1080p firmware update. Makes it very appealing compared to DJI.
I’ve since discovered that DJI could use the O3 Air Unit or Vistas as a Remote ID transmitter
@@DarrenAllatt Can you elaborate?
😮
Mad tech's o3 unit tear down shows no gps module, so it's impossible to put remote id on something that can't know your location.
This applies for the vista also, since the vista doesn't have a gps, and there's just no hardware for it because when the vista is created, remote id is not a big deal.
So smaller field of view on the newer oleds? If I heard you right?
Integra has the small FOV of 44 degrees

Can government authorities get real time information when you fly the avata
Yes that’s the point of remote Id. But they need to be within range of transmission
@@DarrenAllatt I was wondering if there is some kind of alert that is popping up in some kind of control center, I hope remote id is only available in range
@@mazivcoit’s a Bluetooth broadcast… the range isn’t that good
@@DarrenAllatt what I meant to ask is, do dji share information of all drones that are currently flying so affectively there is no need for authorities to spot you or be in range of the remote Id ( I assume DJI knows about every flight taking place)
I disconnected the gps. It’s two UFL connections

Are the googles v2 discontinued?
Yes. Which was inevitable. They aren't in the Avatar kits anymore, and out of stock on most DJI store websites. ie Australia and other countries
They are not. There’s a new Pro-View kit witch include the Googles V2 and new RC controller. Look for “DJI Avata Pro-View Combo (New)” at the store.
this is yet another reason why im never updating my dji goggles v2! On the newest firmware version I cant even apply the FCC hack so Ive been in an old version ever since.. amazing how DJI discontinued the better version then 😅
In the Avata, they display a firmware error if you have outdated firmware.
So if I get this right, it makes the FCC hack for the Avata in Europe impossible since the GPS is integrated in the goggles?
FCC hack is about the power output laws governed by the FCC, while remote id governed by the FAA.
So you’d possibly be able to still do the FCC hack in Europe
@@DarrenAllatt ok thanks!

Well said.
That would be a WTF
I also believe the Goggles 2 (not V2; possibly already discontinued) will be discontinued; shortly.
I believe the O3 Air Unit would become a broadcast module through a firmware update, it's capable of being so. So if it becomes a broadcast module, then DJI need to ensure compliance as the regs require them to.
@@DarrenAllatt well, if that becomes geofencing, then it's back to analog, or hdzero

My V2 goggles forced me to update my FPV firmware. "Aircraft Firmware Out of Date"
I was forced to update it to fly again.
I was worried it was going to force the remote ID. Luckily it didn't.... Yet. I was able to fly without my phone.
Yea I was bouta say, how will the goggles know it has out of date firmware if you simply don't connect it to the internet?
Reckless use of Mavics. Most FPV pilots want to stay out of the public eye and just fly
sound is sooooo looooow my laptop is in full volume for this to be workable
Sorry. I am working on the sound. Next video should be better.
Just like with the Avata, you dont have a choice. Remote ID is a joke.
I believe without a doubt that DJI will when the law requires them to, force pilots to comply with Remote ID who use an O3 Air Unit. Does it affect you from flying now with O3, no, but come September 2023 when compliance to Remote ID is required, it will. You should also know this if you are
Let me explain, then call me crazy.
The First Image is the SRT file from the O3 Air Unit that is on my "Premium 5" Freestyle Build" from the weekend.
As you saw in that video, I didn't put a GPS on it. I also don't have GPS enabled, nor any GPS elements enabled in my OSD on that build. ua-cam.com/video/KPbxJIGjb0k/v-deo.html
I know DJI have said that the O3 Air Unit does not have a Remote ID module in it.
Here my Hypothesis as to how they could force Remote ID Compliance
1) When activating DJI O3 Air Unit or Goggles, it stores a unique ID in the device (you use your email to activate) and you also have to bind your Air Units and Goggles together.
Soooo in America, we call this…….the time to stock up!
Freeeeeeeeeeedom! 👍👍🇺🇸
Analog is the new way lol
TLDR.
Worse yet they will target us in military applications just as was done in Ukraine.
This has already happened it is not an idea or thought these people died because of DJI and the CCP
just buy another system
I'd have to sell all my existing DJI gear.
@@DarrenAllatt sooner or later they will enforce remote id.
Which one is same good as this one?
Amen!
Thank you!
Dont give people ideas that unbuckled seat belts should disable the car. 🤣
Don't worry, even if this somehow came to pass (can't see how it would make any sense, but let's assume it does):
The system is not tamperproof, you could just spoof the GPS. They can't take away your ability to break the law.
What I'm more worried about is, will added availability of RID systems encourage lawmakers to pass more strict regulations. Which would suck for those who must obey the rules.
See pinned comment.
O3 Air Unit reads telemetry from the FC, specifically GPS data. It’s all in the SRT file.
Now what if you don’t run a GPS how would this effect the situation. I only run GPS on my long range drones
One thing is for sure if SHTF you will not want to use a DJI product for the defense of America or to help therin
I will be defending Australia mate. Although we lost a War to Emu's, so I dont like our chances.
darren is 100% right here dji has no mention of gps unit or remote id on dji store why be so sneaky about it as it looks like a lot of fpv pilots have capitulated and are begging to have remote id
I wouldn’t say pilots are begging for it.. it’s that they don’t have a choice because the government has made it law.
@@johnford9477 I think everyone is pissed but are powerless to do anything
@@DarrenAllatt i have watched several videos and all apart from youself seem more than happy to comply what next once remote id if up and running they could limit your flights and distance your drone can travel
@@johnford9477 I don’t believe that would be technically possible on Hobby FPV Drones. A DJI Avata is a possibility though
It’s no different, no need to buy Integra
FREEEEEEEEEEDOM~~~!!!!
Nothing wrong with remote ID, if you have a problem with this, fight the regulation not the manufacturer trying to comply. You have the freedom to choose, don't buy their product.
im allready worried that i cant but a new dji air unit anywhere.
i have 2 drones but they wil prob never have proper replacement unless you go for the less ones like runcam wasp or whatever
but air units are allready extinct in stores unless you buy a cinewhoop or a prebuild just for the air unit
They’ve been discontinued for a while now. So you can only get the Link (Air Unit Lite) aka Caddx Vista.
You last statement was totally bad, you do not have the choice to comply, you comply or get fine, that is the way it is.
Settle down grandad
@@dronephotographyireland LOL
As I said: Freedom of Choice not Freedom from consequence.
@@DarrenAllatt LOL
I know you from facebook
Well have have these's goggles with O3 air units and have flown in area's not allowed a bunch of times ,nothing happens ever only if you fly a Dji drone that has a id chip in it is the only way it makes a difference so if you fly your built fpv drone your fine just don't advertise were you fly and don't cause problems that you will get you called on that's the only way you will get caught there is no dark secret with theses' goggles the gps only works with a remote id installed on your drone, so dont put one on and stay away from area's you can get caught just be safe its easy
DJI is perfectly capable of implementing RID with the O3 AU only. Doesn’t matter what goggles you have.
You just need to plug in your phone.
I recently try to fly next to airport and it made me input my phone number the sent me code through text and click on assume responsibility if anything happened and then I was able to fly...
Well that’s stupid to fly next to an airport
Yeah not a good future hopefully though this is not something that will come to pass.
O3 Air Unit and Goggles have unique serial numbers,
You need to bind your O3 Air Unit and your Goggles.
The O3 Air Unit and your goggles are actively transmitting and receiving data once they are powered on and bound. In the Goggles, About Menu, lists:
- Air Unit Firmware version #
- Remove Controller Firmware version #
- Googles Firmware version #
- Air Unit Serial Number
- Remote Controller Serial Number
- Goggles Serial Number
- Camera Serial Number
The O3 Air Unit, does not need a GPS signal.
Won't be buying these ever period!
Yes. I'm seriously contemplating my options.
Remote ID is for accountability and transparency. And your own safety.
Own safety is a stretch. accountability & transparency yes. problem I have with remote id, is that the regs are too restrictive if you just want to go to a park and fly
But, you're missing the point! 🤷
Remote ID is not a law DJI put in place! This is the FCC in the USA.
DJI is simply one of the first to put out a product complying to the new rules that go into effect soon.
OTHER COMPANIES, LIKE WALKSNAIL, HDZERO, iFlight, GepRC, ETC. NEED TO COMPLY TO THE FCC's RULES TOO!
This may seem like another reason for haters to hate on DJI. But, it has nothing to do with DJI!
IT'S NOT THEIR RULES!💯✅🤦
It's the FCC's rules, so hate on them. All companies have to comply, not just DJI! Your hating on a company, not the source of the issue... The FCC!
DOTE! 😵💫🥴
Big deal is a firmware update to your existing gear can remove your freedom of choice to comply with the law.
What bs are you spinning?
Here the solution, use Walksnail or HDZero
@@DarrenAllatt There you go. Did I miss it in the video?
