Dr Paul Sir. I really love to watch martial arts movies. For the first few time's that I have watched yout videos. I am blown away with the beauty and grace of Tai Chi. It's like dancing slow and graceful. I am 58 years old. I have several health problems. I am also a Army veteran. As a young boy I watched martial arts movies and told myself that one day I will learn. I hope that I can learn and not disappoint you sir. Thank you for these great videos.

Jason, I am sure most people can. I suggest to work with Tai Chi for Beginners first, follow my instructions, take your time learn one lesson and practice until you are familiar with it, then move on. Tai chi brings great benefit and enjoyment, it just requires a little time and patience. Good things come with time. Do give it a try.

Thanks Joe, I love tai chi and spend a lot of time practicing and thinking and working on it.... the shoes I designed and many years ago tried to bring it to others... but it was so expensive compare to China made ones (my designed was hand made in Australia by craftsman)... and selling shoes is too time consuming and difficult for my staff... One of the many projects I lose significant money and have to give up. I still hope one day a major shoes makers would approach me to use my experience for an ideal tai chi shoes.

It was a joy to find this. I studied briefly with a wonderful Malay Chinese woman here in Scotland about twenty years ago and she recommended your VHS demonstrating the 24 forms. Your were truly at peace on that day and I will never forget what I saw and how your body flowed like liquid iron. I no longer study the forms as I can be hard on teachers when they disappoint me. I only learned around three of the moves passably and that took me hundreds of hours... of joy. I do however try and carry into all of my physical activities , and in particular performing and practicing on my instrument, the little that I have learned from my teachers both those who were present and those like you who moved by love, felt compelled to provide a truly wonderful example to share with strangers. It was a joy just now finding this film and also that you still inspire me. I will tell you I was wary, in this demonstration your neck retracted early on and I was tempted to feel comforted by this as I myself find discipline and routine challenging. Yet I watched on and saw many many moments where you allowed yourself the confidence to perform absolutely without ego and almost without flaw and I smiled and knew I would watch again and again. On my channel I have some examples of myself improvising freely on my guitar and in them too I find moments where I am without ego and the music flows from me freely. Thank you for those moments and thank you for the example and ...... thank you for reminding me that the best is yet to come and that, withe examples like yours to guide me I can accept the reality that at 47 I am still a young man and that before I am done with the guitar I may still allow myself days in which any moments without blemish in my playing will simply pass by without notice as too should the Buddha if I ever meet him on the road.

I suffer from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Tai Chi has been so helpful in improving my everyday life. Your videos in particular, Dr Paul Chan. If I have to take to car to go to any kind of training, it quickly becomes difficult for me, tiresome and I always end up giving it up. But with these videos, I can learn and practice at home knowing there is quality to it and that I can do it right. Thank you :)

CFS survivor here, my advice that has helped me extraordinarily is to develop a very stress free schedule. Don't force it, allow it to gradually build. This means learn something new everyday that can reduce stress, and incorporate it into your week. Next gut health, invest in probiotics, and clean that gut! Cut out most dairy products, and fast food. Another crucial step to ridding cfs is to exercise. You must continue to push yourself until each day you will slowly, but gradually notice improvement! Next multi- vitamin every day until you feel you have enough nutrients built up. I am majoring in psychology in particular cognitive psychology. That being said my last tip is to meditate for at least 10 minutes daily! Tell your self you no longer have CFS, and with each breath picture yourself breathing out the illness. Top studies for current brain science show our thoughts = matter and vice versa. You have the ability to heal from within. Good luck, and god bless.

I like the point that you stay in your physical comfort zone but visualize the movement as bring fully expressed. Tai chi for me is a mental exercise as well. Doing the movements slowly can be hard at first. We're so used to hurrying.

I am a comparitively healthier person, and I didn't know much about TAI CHI. Couple of days ago, I just saw one of Dr.Lam's video on UA-cam and the moves of Tai Chi, which were very meditative. Just by copying his youtube tutorial videos, I am greatly helped.
Mindful movement of body not only relàxed my body but also brought calmness, serenity and stability in me. Tai chi is a dynamic or working meditation for me .
Now I feel happier, and my stiff body parts like fingers, look alive and softer.
I am very thankful to you, Dr Lam, for your jweller-like minutely designed lessons and slow Tai chi practice modules. Keep it up.

Thankyou for your reply. I am surprised I am the first person to ask you this. The reason I asked is because if a person wishes to buy your DVD from an internet vendor other than yourself (mostly for reasons of shipping costs, if not in the USA, or because they may already have an account with another vendor), then it can be con fusing to make sure one is ordering the 2011 version, instead of the 2004 version. Therefore, the best way to be certain is to ensure the correct ASIN / ISBN number.

Joe and James: I designed those shoes many yrs ago, but they are hand made, costing over $100 from the maker, it is impossible to sell with the expense of office, while the shoes James used prob cost $5 from the maker! So we stopped them, I am on to my very last pair! What a pity. I would love to work with a shoe company to help them design an ideal tai chi shoes.
Before that happen, enjoy your tai chi, most flat and comfortable shoes would work very well.

Dear dr Lam! I hope you can help me. I started doing Tai Chi 24 a few years ago. At first, I had great benefits for my health (particularly spine), but over time I developed sever pain in my knees, especially right one. This pain was most intense in turns (parting wild horse's mane), so I guess that is where I make mistakes. I know this is not effective as in person, but I was hoping that you, with your vast experience and knowledge, could give me some advice in general, regarding knees and how to protect them and preserve them. I will be grateful if you can provide me this information. I admire your work, dr Lam. Best regards

The knee must always face the same direction as the toes and never bend the knee too much.
These are two of the main cause of knee injuries.
When I work out I always use knee and ankle support this way it helps the ligament with extra support. Always start slow untill you get the movement right always twist at the hip never at the knee. Hope this is helpful.
      Peace and love to all

Thank you so much. It's a little different from how our teacher performs it, but this video really helped me get the hang of the form. Thank you!!! (we learned part one of the 108 first, so it was kind of weird to go into all of this without having experience in doing the 24 form)

Franck: May I suggest you read the many medical studies that show how tai chi especially my modernized tai chi help people with arthritis? If you are interested to know the fact please take a look at the documentary - I explained how it works - you can find it at UA-cam search for Dr Paul Lam and "Anyone Can Learn Tai Chi"i. By incorporating modern medical knowledge, tai chi is a powerful tool for healing and health, shown by over 500 medical studies! That is why Arthritis Foundation around the world and the Centers for Disease and Prevention have supported and recommend my tai chi program - these organisations only do so for programs that are proven by medical evidence.
