It's definitely a great story experience! I really enjoyed the lore they created - felt unique in comparison to other stuff I've seen so it was refreshing to see
Not really. It banked so much on your choices mattering but they really didn’t matter much. And the combat breaks the entire gimmick of this as game. Make choices to level up that have consequences. But you can grind out killing thousands of vampire hunters and nobody cares.
Not everything needs a sequel or needs to be made into a series. Vampyr works as a one and done affaire, play Ghosts of New Eden since it is a part of the same universe.
I highly encourage anyone trying this for this first time to just PLAY the game. Dont try to min/max or try to be perfect. Just be the player, do what feels right, let the chips fall where they may. It's a fantastic way to experience it for the first time.
I simply played the game but still didn’t enjoy it. The combat vs the story breaks all immersion. Almost like they added it later without asking anyone.
yeah that wouldve been really cool - it's just a shame they made that creative choice. It just doesn't really make sense to me why they didn't add at least some sort of fast travel option
honestly,i was happy there is not fast travel. sure,on the bad side it meant constantly facing all those respawned enemies but on the good side,you were constantly reminded how the city is F´ed up after the war and raging plague,maybe even making you think about how the hell people simply try to live through and not just quit with all the misery and death around? not mentioning that in at least one case you can even experience a change to happen in the city,based on your choices

My first time playing years ago I rage quit, because while I wanted to play a vampire in a dramatic story, I wanted to be the good guy, even in a game it felt wrong to embrace someone so I didn’t, but man did the game get exponentially harder not doing that. I get the narrative reason for harder gameplay but I just wanted to enjoy the story so I wish the game didn’t go so hard on trying to be moral.
i think thats a fair point, not many games these days really let you choose which path properly - it's mostly an illusion which from a development standpoint, i understand
The lack of fast travel really hinders the game and contributes to the tedium of running back and forth treating everyone. It's a shame that the gameplay is so clunky because the story is really really good.
Recently replayed it, and I agree. The fact you can't fast travel between hideouts really hinders the enjoyment of the game and really makes it feel like it's inflating the time of the game by making you walk for minutes at a time just to see one NPC.
Man Fast Travel would have made a world of difference! Unfortunately I have a feeling this game won't get a sequel but I definitely understand why people enjoy this one.
By the way the doctor is voiced by Harry Hadden-Paton, who also voiced The Red Prince in Divinity Original Sin 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition's protagonist. I always end up loving any character he voices.
That's really cool, can't say I've really seen anything with him i in but that's interesting. I've been wanting to check out the DOS and Dragon Age games but I've not had the chance yet unfortunately.
@@dox_plays The DA series is a bit harder to get into, but Divinity original Sin 2 is fantastic and you don't need to play the first game to understand it, really recommend it.

I'm the type of nerd that would have to play the first game in the series where possible so I'd probably start with divinity original sin (not the really old ones 😅i think i would get annoyed)

If it had a better budget, more development time, and more refined and polished gameplay mechanics, this game would have kicked ass. This game had so much going for it, but so much of it felt tedious. I played through it multiple times, and the problems that you mentioned in this video really exposed themselves. A properly implemented New Game Plus mode would have made this game much more fun for numerous playthroughs and easier to manage. They didn’t even include it in an update.
Still play this game in 2024 and I'll be doing it for many more years to come. There's something about this game that simply attracts me back to it every time, like a magnet. It's certainly not perfect but, honestly, I'd give it a 9/10. There's no better vampire game than this one, in my opinion. I wish they made a second one, but it's a pretty niche game and I don't know if we can actually look forward to it.
It's a great game honestly, for the most part at least. I think it's great that you would rate it 9/10 and though it may not have scored that well overall, everyone is obviously different so I think it's a fair score. I just wish it had some fast travel... XD
@@dox_plays Many people complain about this but honestly, once you know the map and you connect the district by unlocking doors and gates, it doesn’t matter all that much.

A lore rich game with interactive story based on player choices, A harmeful entity is either the hero or the villain, humble level of graphics given it was out in 2018. This is not a game to be only played it is to be admired too... What else would you want in a game this old really? It's a nostalgic gem.

@@dox_plays Cyberpunk 2077 is similar to an extent, and it’s one of my favorite games I've ever played. That game would be even BETTER if it had a New Game Plus, but we NEVER got that, even after all the updates.

@@dox_plays UA-cam is a mess; it's such a pain. Cyberpunk 2077 is a "MUST-PLAY," in my opinion, and I'm not talking about playing it for a few sessions and dropping it. You must at least play through the main story and the Phantom Liberty expansion at least once. You must have this game on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and/or XBOX Series X/S to do this. The older consoles will not suffice. The Phantom Liberty expansion and newer title updates are only available on the aforementioned platforms. My advice when playing the game for the first time is to take your time and let it just fall into the experience. It's not that difficult to do because the game is so immersive. Play the way you want to play and build on that. Don't be afraid to look up guides on UA-cam to fill you in on what course of action you want to take. If you're going to get a good head start after the first act of the game, I strongly suggest you do all the side missions that are available to you before completing the first act. Trust me, it will pay off later. This game deserves multiple playthroughs and experiencing all of its endings. You don't have to unlock all the achievements like I did, even though you probably should; it deserves it, but give it the respect of one proper playthrough.
Just beat this game for the first time today. Tons of bugs, engine is unoptimized, and there are some things I'd tweak, but I seriously appreciate the story with its well-developed characters. It's a battle for the city, maybe even the world, but at the same time, it's about the ordinary people of that time with their own problems.
Yes, agree 100% I found the voice work and vibe and atmosphere and story just super interesting! You may enjoy Banishers if you liked this, they are technically set in the same universe if I'm not mistaken!
Yeah and maybe add fast travel but the game itself isn't that old and I don't think it sold particularly well so I wouldn't count on it, it's still definitely playable today so probably wouldnt be much point

I cant understand why you put so much emphasis on fast travel. Fast travelling in such a small and detailed world would completely destroy the experience. Finding your ways, learning every corner adds so much to the game. Also there would be so much less combat if you could just teleport from place to place. And also i think the routes just appear to consume a lot of time. Run from whitechapel to the docks, i swear it only takes 2 min. Also you will organise your routes around quests, giving ppl medicine, when to sleep to level and the cpnsequence of respawns. Fast travelling just makes us more restless players that try to do everything nervously faster just like in the real world and i dont like that.
I mean it might take 2 minutes, but each time you're moving between areas; especially if you're not efficiently grabbing quests that you may not have realised were available it becomes very tedious. Perhaps I've overblown it, but the thing is having the option and then not using it is a very valid way of playing the game which I completely get. But Not having the option and then feeling like you're forced to do that much travelling between, and going through respawning enemies, especially when you've completed the story and are just trying to do collectibles, sidequests or achievements it becomes very annoying. Like I've heard people say that fast travel can take away from games, but games like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, all give you the option and none of that has ever taken away from the whole experience so I just think the game becomes unnecessarily stretched out because of it.
I finished the game today and really liked it. The lore and characters are really good. To be honest, I think they have a lot of options if there is ever a second game. However, they should add fast travel and some kind of New Game Plus to get different endings on the same save file instead of starting from scratch
Yep! 100% agree, it would just remove a lot of friction from the game. I'm honestly tired of all these "it's intended to be that way". I don't play games to waste time, I want to feel like my time is valued! And New Game Plus of any sort would add a reason to replay and check out the different endings!
@@dox_playsYeah, I would also like better combat in the game and more options when interacting with NPCs. For example, there are some NPCs that we already know are bad, so killing or dealing with them in some way should not count as something negative. I imagine a Vampyr 2 with better combat and a more refined choice and decision system similar to that of some role-playing games.
I would be mixed on the NPC killing bit. I would say there are definitely very "grey" characters in the game. Some things they might do would be very "bad" but on the other hand there are things those same people do I found weren't the case. And I think that's one of the beauties of the game design because I think the devs really leaned into that to try and test the players decision making. I do think there's a fair bit that could be added/improved upon though and hopefully one day we will see a sequel
5:45 i see someone been feeding on npcs...kinda shame that this mechanic only matters for your character and does not apply to other vampires within the game as well (like lady Ashbury) 6:26 a fun fact-the game initially did not had any difficulties to choose from as its motto was that your choices will dictate how easy/hard your experience will be,Story and Hard mode been added like half a year later for those who just wanted to experience the story and lore and for those who felt the game as it is was not difficult enough
😅 I only killed 1 person - I promise! I actually normally wouldn't but I wanted to see what would result from the decisions. I had no idea about those difficulties, thats super interesting - It actually surprises me more because if they added that.. why couldn't they add fast travel aswell...

WOW! That is impressive, I think you might like Banishers Ghosts of New Eden if you haven't tried. It's made by the same studio and I believe is set in the same universe
I really, really liked Vampyr. In fact I played through it several times and got the platinum trophy. Even the combat, something that is often criticised about the game, was ok for me. At the moment I am playing their most recent game, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, which is also very good and is set in the same universe as Vampyr.
Oh i did not know that it's set in the same universe, I actually love that! I also honestly didn't mind the combat - like I'm not that sophisticated of a gamer so maybe It's not the general consensus but I thought it was fun

I love this game. I've sort of turned it into a late September to early October tradition to play this now. And I'm 45. So that says a lot considering all the different crap I've played over the years (starting out with Atari😂)... I also have a few other games like Red Dead: Undead Nightmare and stuff like The Evil Within that I often toss in around that time. But this I put above the others now. It's just too damn fun and reminds me a lot of the old school Hammer films that I grew up watching when I was a kid, and also the old Vincent Price flicks. Like I said, fuggin live it. And I really hope that someone decides to front the money to a studio and buys the rights to create a sequel. That would be great if the right people took on the project.

Get recommendation, I personally prefer Mouse and Keyboard for the most part and only use controller for certain games but I can see that a lot of people will enjoy it more with controller
Absolutely it is. I like Ghosts of New Eden better, but Vampyr is worth playing solely for its interesting setting and because vampire games are rarely seen, especially good ones, and this is one of them.

I tried playing this game a few years ago but my pc was about as good as a potato with 2 forks and duct tape so I ended up refunding it due to the 9 max fps. I got a new pc a bit ago and I was playing V rising and had a conversation about vampire games with my friend and he brought this one up which I forgot about until then, I was looking at some videos to see if I wanted to get it. I watched 2 videos a bit ago and was on the fence but this video pushed me over it and I decided to get it.
If anyone is thinking of getting this and are reading comments about the combat, forget those comments. Those people have no idea what they're talking about. The combat is easy and simple. People just don't like that you can't spam your attacks without getting punished. The combat has a flow to it. You attack they retaliate, you dodge, and attack again. If you like parrying, you can play more aggressive and instead of dodging their retaliation you can parry it. You can literally abuse enemies far higher level than you in this game if you just follow the flow of combat
@dox_plays Yeah, the game is great and I'm having a blast with it. I was almost turned away by the game because people kept saying the combat sucked or wasn't great. I'm glad I didn't listen because the combat feels great. I don't feel like I'm too strong where I'll wipe the floor in an instant, but strong enough where I'm like yeah I can take on a group of enemies if I play smart. You can take out a group of high level enemies if you're patient. The game punishes button mashing.

just finished playing this , again, today. Amazing game, story and gameplay ... sound and music are out of this world ( for when he was made) Imagine this, in 2024, as an open map game, when you can visit everything ( including the abandoned house,etc) and have a lot of side quest/missions, and a lot more flexibility A truly interesting and amazing game, from my pov. Honestly, one of the best bad games out there. And thats not me being snarky, its a legit compliment. The game is a solid like, B-. You can see some great ideas, there's some good stuff there, parts are cool, but it just doesn't quite feel right, feel finished, feel truly special. Its like you're playing a second draft of a game. It needed another years development with some shake-ups in design and combat and writing and the endings. I like it well enough, but I don't like playing a game that keeps reminding me of what it could have been.

I would say no it's not. Because you cannot continue your playthrough past the story ending. You don't even get New Game Plus. You just can't keep progressing after the main story ends and that ruins everything.
Yeah I definitely understand your perspective - for me it's worth experiencing, but its probably not on the list of games I would consider replaying. It's a one and done type game for me
@@dox_plays . What really sucks though is that Vampyr is such a fun game so having the gameplay end when the story does just kinda pisses me off. Such a good game but completely ruined by this one detail and no other game I know of is a good alternative to Vampyr. No other game offers the same experience as Vampyr so when it ends, I'm just left here to rage over it's loss. It's like losing someone you love and knowing there ain't any wizards to bring them back from the dead.

I absolutely love this game. Flawed, but the atmosphere, ambiance, the XP mechanic and the soundtrack are fantastic. People criticize the combat, but I think it's decent. Lots of potential in a sequel.
This is imo one of the best modern western RPG for me. Sure, the combat and lip syncs are mediocre (that said, I have fun with the combat, especially with the abilities you can unlock), but the atmosphere, story, characters, consequences and lore are great to fantastic. I really hope Dontnod makes a sequel for this although they did just made Banishers which took in the same universe but vampire-based rpg is just right in my alley lol
Yeah, I can definitely see the appeal for vampire style games. I haven't played Banishers yet but definitely keen to try after checking this game out. I personally enjoyed the combat and don't think it's as bad as people have said lol
Amazing video! , I played the game and I like it so much specially the story it feels more like a movie, and it makes the player want to explore more and more characters, right now I am playing the game again but in hard mode while trying not to embrace anyone, but I would say if they just improved the combat it would be a 10/10.

After having played B.GoNE ( I get it B.GoNE 😂) I'm redownloading this and playing again afterwards...I only put 10hrs in it originally, and playing Banishers it took 10 hrs for that game to get really good
Just finished my 3rd playthrough about 2 weeks ago. I loved my first two, hated this one. The voice acting is great, but the dialogue and dialogue trees are genuinely awful and jarring enough to completely break the immersion of the game at times. Sometimes, it's painful. The game also isn't open enough. It's not exactly a huge map, yet it still has very shallow exploration and collections to find. Dropped to a very bland 6-6.5/10 for me.
They gameplay and everything is outstanding very good game I feel like everyone would enjoy this game but the only thing I don’t like are the issues with some of the quests and stuff
I haven't played Banishers yet unfortunately but technically Banishers is set in 1695 I believe which means technically it should be the first game but I feel like Vampyr might be a better choice to start with since they aren't direct sequels (i think), you're also likely to get Vampyr on discount where Banishers is probably still full priced and the references and little easter eggs in Banishers will probably be more prominent since I doubt there would be any references/easter eggs in Vampyr

all this game needed was fast travel between safe houses to be completely saved and a joy to play through whole system is perfect for multiple playthroughs with great writing, but the game and level design make it a slog forcing you to go through the same areas and fight or avoid the same enemies over and over and over, making replays a chore. what a shame.
I actually feel like the level design wasn't bad and I really liked the detailed everywhere you looked. I do definitely agree with the rest of your comments though - the lack of fast travel is frustrating and just makes no sense to me.

the only beef I have with this game is the combat too repeatative and easy, other stuff, top notch. The force running in very hard mode make you fell like a Nosferatu hatchling and enemy can kill you in 1-2 hit making fighting not advisable You know every dark valley, short cut and how to avoid everybody like a true being that lives in the dark. Though with the fighting system that is too easy, it somehow reduces and turn into "yeah i can fight but it's tedious" not "Nope human is scary better not provoke them".
I understand what you mean as it doesn't necessarily make you feel like you constantly need to hide in the shadows but I didn't mind the combat, i actually thought it felt pretty decent. I suppose there could have been a better balance though and overall i do agree that it's not a game you play the combat. thanks for the comment though!

This game made me ragequit countless times. I love the storytelling and the vibes but the combat is so janky, ntm the amount of times I cleared an area only for the game to crash.

The doctor at the hospital (cant remember his name) sounds like hes been voiced by the voice who also voiced another doctor in the game , "The Suffering" *the psycho doc

I think it was one of those things where it was on game pass or a "free" month playstation game so i popped it in to check it out, but i had a main game i was playing at the time or something and just never really got back to it. So many games out there you know? One day I might get back to checking this out but I have such a big backlog of games and I have heard this one isn't exactly stellar. Like you said if a game isn't keeping interest there are so many others

Then at some point the dlc was on sale so I got it too.... I haven't even played the game yet. I haven't even booted it up lol. I have quite a few games I haven't even played and sooooo many games I have left unfinished. Cyberpunk I've bought twice in two different systems, haven't played it yet. Like wtf.
That's a fair perspective - overall PS5 does have some amazing stuff! If you're not only focused on graphics though and really enjoy the story side of things you may be surprised with Vampyr
@@Kairac112 I think the graphics hold up in a lot of areas especially like the world but i think the character models play up sometimes - i think the artstyle also really helps the game shine in that aspect
I played it for the first time in 2024 and I say its worth about 5 dollars on sale, because it was clearly released completely unfinished. I'm not even talking about the jank, but specifically that your choices are so inconsequential they don't even change dialogue. Constantly in the story I wanted to play a character who wasnt simping for communists or screeching activists, but each and every time I chose to respond in conversation with disapproval, the character would immediately turn it into "youre right, but you better be careful who you say that to" The worst example was when he visits the priest, confesses his sins, and you can end up on a dialogue path that allows you to choose to desire to repent....and then immediately he will 180, call the priest a knob, and swear to end all patriarchal religion. Just as bad was the "pillar" system, where if purposely killed someone I found annoying it was treated like this horrific loss for the community even in the case of say, a drug addict living under a bridge. Worse if they were a "pillar", like the woman organizing a fucking (ironically) vampiric political campaign in the middle of a fucking PLAGUE, and trying to cripple efforts to help being so important that if YOU TAKE OVER DOING THE SAME JOB SHE WAS, THE DISTRICT WILL FALL. Or the only fucking redeemable character, the "sad saint", who will die and drag the entire district to hell if you dont exhaust a random line of dialogue with a completely unrelated character at a specific point in the story where you find out he was molested or some shite. Or equally stupid, when you turn the old man, he builds a wall around a part of town that is already walled off, and somehow because npcs that never leave their zones arent allowed to enter from contaminated zones (which they never were), the zone without contamination....becomes contaminated. Oh, and the anger at swansea was comical in context. The game was either never finished, or was written by a bunch of immature partisans who couldnt bear to let you make logical choices, and was more interested in punishing players and characters that didnt obey their moral law, regardless of its logic or realism. Still fun for 5 bucks though, if only to vamp out on characters you get tired of and for the scene you get for turning the vampire hunter.
This was a very detailed comment and I appreciate you. I do think unfinished may not be the right term perhaps but maybe the way they set up choices and consequences could've been done better. I do remember some being a bit unexpected but for the most part I still had a good time

Knowing that they were the ones who did LiS makes me lean away from the "unfinished" idea, but at the same time, it seems REALLY strange to have him verbally contradict your choices every time you pick the option that seems to get too close to the idea of personal responsibility or natural law, and you'd think they just...I dunno, didnt put the option into it in the first place if they dont want you playing like that. I still find the wall bit to be infuriating, at least I can accept that the nurse was doing more than the doctor was capable of, or I can accept that the doctor will never have less than progressive views, but literally separating yourself from the sick causing sickness just pissed me off. They should make a sequel where you play your own character, something like "vampyr: the masquerade"

That's fair! I'm the same really, I didn't think Vampyr was that bad though in terms of Soulslike mechanics but I can definitely appreciate the frustration!
Solid 6.5 for me. It sucks that core gameplay mechanics are at best mediocre. Fighting gets repetitive (except with other vampires and bosses) but the overall enemy design is good. Talking with NPCs is boring (probably because there are so many of them and conversations mostly lead nowhere), but the main quest is excellent. Graphics, voice acting, choices, difficulty - those are great, and I would enjoy it more if it were just a 10-15 hour game.
Yeah, I think a lot of those criticisms I've seen echoed and warranted, I still definitely had a pretty good time overall though and I agree it probably didn't need to be as long
They need to stop making games that punish you for having fun and stop incentivizing the player to be really really boring. We have a vampire game but don’t you dare think about being vampirey or you will get the bad ending. Somehow this is one of my top games.

Not really. It banked so much on your choices mattering but they really didn’t matter much. And the combat breaks the entire gimmick of this as game. Make choices to level up that have consequences. But you can grind out killing thousands of vampire hunters and nobody cares.

I highly encourage anyone trying this for this first time to just PLAY the game. Dont try to min/max or try to be perfect. Just be the player, do what feels right, let the chips fall where they may. It's a fantastic way to experience it for the first time.

I simply played the game but still didn’t enjoy it. The combat vs the story breaks all immersion. Almost like they added it later without asking anyone.
They couldve made a bat innate power that opens a fast travel screen then animate you turning into a bat and then into loading screen to keep it cool

sure,on the bad side it meant constantly facing all those respawned enemies
but on the good side,you were constantly reminded how the city is F´ed up after the war and raging plague,maybe even making you think about how the hell people simply try to live through and not just quit with all the misery and death around?
not mentioning that in at least one case you can even experience a change to happen in the city,based on your choices

My first time playing years ago I rage quit, because while I wanted to play a vampire in a dramatic story, I wanted to be the good guy, even in a game it felt wrong to embrace someone so I didn’t, but man did the game get exponentially harder not doing that. I get the narrative reason for harder gameplay but I just wanted to enjoy the story so I wish the game didn’t go so hard on trying to be moral.
i think thats a fair point, not many games these days really let you choose which path properly - it's mostly an illusion which from a development standpoint, i understand

The lack of fast travel really hinders the game and contributes to the tedium of running back and forth treating everyone. It's a shame that the gameplay is so clunky because the story is really really good.
I absolutely agree with about the fast travel. I didn't actually mind the combat though - felt good to me honestly.
Recently replayed it, and I agree. The fact you can't fast travel between hideouts really hinders the enjoyment of the game and really makes it feel like it's inflating the time of the game by making you walk for minutes at a time just to see one NPC.

@@dox_plays The DA series is a bit harder to get into, but Divinity original Sin 2 is fantastic and you don't need to play the first game to understand it, really recommend it.

If it had a better budget, more development time, and more refined and polished gameplay mechanics, this game would have kicked ass. This game had so much going for it, but so much of it felt tedious. I played through it multiple times, and the problems that you mentioned in this video really exposed themselves. A properly implemented New Game Plus mode would have made this game much more fun for numerous playthroughs and easier to manage. They didn’t even include it in an update.
Still play this game in 2024 and I'll be doing it for many more years to come. There's something about this game that simply attracts me back to it every time, like a magnet. It's certainly not perfect but, honestly, I'd give it a 9/10. There's no better vampire game than this one, in my opinion. I wish they made a second one, but it's a pretty niche game and I don't know if we can actually look forward to it.

Cyberpunk 2077 is similar to an extent, and it’s one of my favorite games I've ever played. That game would be even BETTER if it had a New Game Plus, but we NEVER got that, even after all the updates.

UA-cam is a mess; it's such a pain.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a "MUST-PLAY," in my opinion, and I'm not talking about playing it for a few sessions and dropping it. You must at least play through the main story and the Phantom Liberty expansion at least once. You must have this game on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and/or XBOX Series X/S to do this. The older consoles will not suffice. The Phantom Liberty expansion and newer title updates are only available on the aforementioned platforms.
My advice when playing the game for the first time is to take your time and let it just fall into the experience. It's not that difficult to do because the game is so immersive. Play the way you want to play and build on that. Don't be afraid to look up guides on UA-cam to fill you in on what course of action you want to take. If you're going to get a good head start after the first act of the game, I strongly suggest you do all the side missions that are available to you before completing the first act. Trust me, it will pay off later.
This game deserves multiple playthroughs and experiencing all of its endings. You don't have to unlock all the achievements like I did, even though you probably should; it deserves it, but give it the respect of one proper playthrough.
Just beat this game for the first time today. Tons of bugs, engine is unoptimized, and there are some things I'd tweak, but I seriously appreciate the story with its well-developed characters. It's a battle for the city, maybe even the world, but at the same time, it's about the ordinary people of that time with their own problems.

I cant understand why you put so much emphasis on fast travel. Fast travelling in such a small and detailed world would completely destroy the experience. Finding your ways, learning every corner adds so much to the game. Also there would be so much less combat if you could just teleport from place to place. And also i think the routes just appear to consume a lot of time. Run from whitechapel to the docks, i swear it only takes 2 min. Also you will organise your routes around quests, giving ppl medicine, when to sleep to level and the cpnsequence of respawns. Fast travelling just makes us more restless players that try to do everything nervously faster just like in the real world and i dont like that.
I mean it might take 2 minutes, but each time you're moving between areas; especially if you're not efficiently grabbing quests that you may not have realised were available it becomes very tedious. Perhaps I've overblown it, but the thing is having the option and then not using it is a very valid way of playing the game which I completely get. But Not having the option and then feeling like you're forced to do that much travelling between, and going through respawning enemies, especially when you've completed the story and are just trying to do collectibles, sidequests or achievements it becomes very annoying.
Like I've heard people say that fast travel can take away from games, but games like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, all give you the option and none of that has ever taken away from the whole experience so I just think the game becomes unnecessarily stretched out because of it.
It's definitely one of the best two or three games in the last and this generation. Way better game than 90% big names.

I finished the game today and really liked it. The lore and characters are really good. To be honest, I think they have a lot of options if there is ever a second game. However, they should add fast travel and some kind of New Game Plus to get different endings on the same save file instead of starting from scratch
Yep! 100% agree, it would just remove a lot of friction from the game. I'm honestly tired of all these "it's intended to be that way".

For example, there are some NPCs that we already know are bad, so killing or dealing with them in some way should not count as something negative. I imagine a Vampyr 2 with better combat and a more refined choice and decision system similar to that of some role-playing games.
I would be mixed on the NPC killing bit. I would say there are definitely very "grey" characters in the game. Some things they might do would be very "bad" but on the other hand there are things those same people do I found weren't the case. And I think that's one of the beauties of the game design because I think the devs really leaned into that to try and test the players decision making.
I do think there's a fair bit that could be added/improved upon though and hopefully one day we will see a sequel
5:45 i see someone been feeding on npcs...kinda shame that this mechanic only matters for your character and does not apply to other vampires within the game as well (like lady Ashbury)
6:26 a fun fact-the game initially did not had any difficulties to choose from as its motto was that your choices will dictate how easy/hard your experience will be,Story and Hard mode been added like half a year later for those who just wanted to experience the story and lore and for those who felt the game as it is was not difficult enough

I really, really liked Vampyr. In fact I played through it several times and got the platinum trophy. Even the combat, something that is often criticised about the game, was ok for me. At the moment I am playing their most recent game, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, which is also very good and is set in the same universe as Vampyr.

I love this game. I've sort of turned it into a late September to early October tradition to play this now. And I'm 45. So that says a lot considering all the different crap I've played over the years (starting out with Atari😂)... I also have a few other games like Red Dead: Undead Nightmare and stuff like The Evil Within that I often toss in around that time. But this I put above the others now. It's just too damn fun and reminds me a lot of the old school Hammer films that I grew up watching when I was a kid, and also the old Vincent Price flicks. Like I said, fuggin live it. And I really hope that someone decides to front the money to a studio and buys the rights to create a sequel. That would be great if the right people took on the project.

Absolutely it is. I like Ghosts of New Eden better, but Vampyr is worth playing solely for its interesting setting and because vampire games are rarely seen, especially good ones, and this is one of them.

I tried playing this game a few years ago but my pc was about as good as a potato with 2 forks and duct tape so I ended up refunding it due to the 9 max fps. I got a new pc a bit ago and I was playing V rising and had a conversation about vampire games with my friend and he brought this one up which I forgot about until then, I was looking at some videos to see if I wanted to get it. I watched 2 videos a bit ago and was on the fence but this video pushed me over it and I decided to get it.

If anyone is thinking of getting this and are reading comments about the combat, forget those comments. Those people have no idea what they're talking about. The combat is easy and simple. People just don't like that you can't spam your attacks without getting punished. The combat has a flow to it. You attack they retaliate, you dodge, and attack again. If you like parrying, you can play more aggressive and instead of dodging their retaliation you can parry it. You can literally abuse enemies far higher level than you in this game if you just follow the flow of combat
Personally I didn't mind the combat, I thought it was fine. Overall I think I just really liked the story and lore side of things
@dox_plays Yeah, the game is great and I'm having a blast with it. I was almost turned away by the game because people kept saying the combat sucked or wasn't great. I'm glad I didn't listen because the combat feels great. I don't feel like I'm too strong where I'll wipe the floor in an instant, but strong enough where I'm like yeah I can take on a group of enemies if I play smart. You can take out a group of high level enemies if you're patient. The game punishes button mashing.

Honestly, one of the best bad games out there. And thats not me being snarky, its a legit compliment. The game is a solid like, B-. You can see some great ideas, there's some good stuff there, parts are cool, but it just doesn't quite feel right, feel finished, feel truly special. Its like you're playing a second draft of a game. It needed another years development with some shake-ups in design and combat and writing and the endings.
I like it well enough, but I don't like playing a game that keeps reminding me of what it could have been.

I absolutely love this game. Flawed, but the atmosphere, ambiance, the XP mechanic and the soundtrack are fantastic. People criticize the combat, but I think it's decent. Lots of potential in a sequel.

This is imo one of the best modern western RPG for me. Sure, the combat and lip syncs are mediocre (that said, I have fun with the combat, especially with the abilities you can unlock), but the atmosphere, story, characters, consequences and lore are great to fantastic. I really hope Dontnod makes a sequel for this although they did just made Banishers which took in the same universe but vampire-based rpg is just right in my alley lol

Amazing video! , I played the game and I like it so much specially the story it feels more like a movie, and it makes the player want to explore more and more characters, right now I am playing the game again but in hard mode while trying not to embrace anyone, but I would say if they just improved the combat it would be a 10/10.
Yeah, the game does have a lot going for it - I only wish they had fast travel - it really would've made such a difference in my opinion!

After having played B.GoNE ( I get it B.GoNE 😂) I'm redownloading this and playing again afterwards...I only put 10hrs in it originally, and playing Banishers it took 10 hrs for that game to get really good

Just finished my 3rd playthrough about 2 weeks ago. I loved my first two, hated this one.
The voice acting is great, but the dialogue and dialogue trees are genuinely awful and jarring enough to completely break the immersion of the game at times. Sometimes, it's painful.
The game also isn't open enough. It's not exactly a huge map, yet it still has very shallow exploration and collections to find.
Dropped to a very bland 6-6.5/10 for me.

Well the game is released in 2017. I played Banishers and it seems DontNod actually learned from their choice branches.

I haven't played Banishers yet unfortunately but technically Banishers is set in 1695 I believe which means technically it should be the first game but I feel like Vampyr might be a better choice to start with since they aren't direct sequels (i think), you're also likely to get Vampyr on discount where Banishers is probably still full priced and the references and little easter eggs in Banishers will probably be more prominent since I doubt there would be any references/easter eggs in Vampyr

all this game needed was fast travel between safe houses to be completely saved and a joy to play through
whole system is perfect for multiple playthroughs with great writing, but the game and level design make it a slog forcing you to go through the same areas and fight or avoid the same enemies over and over and over, making replays a chore. what a shame.
I actually feel like the level design wasn't bad and I really liked the detailed everywhere you looked.
I do definitely agree with the rest of your comments though - the lack of fast travel is frustrating and just makes no sense to me.
oh i agree the level design is gorgeous with so much to look at and very immersive, the first time you go through an area. not so much the 30th time!

Oh Wow! I definitely don't have that dedication and the lack of fast travel made it hard for me to try and complete everything! I mean who has the time?
the only beef I have with this game is the combat too repeatative and easy, other stuff, top notch. The force running in very hard mode make you fell like a Nosferatu hatchling and enemy can kill you in 1-2 hit making fighting not advisable You know every dark valley, short cut and how to avoid everybody like a true being that lives in the dark. Though with the fighting system that is too easy, it somehow reduces and turn into "yeah i can fight but it's tedious" not "Nope human is scary better not provoke them".
I understand what you mean as it doesn't necessarily make you feel like you constantly need to hide in the shadows but I didn't mind the combat, i actually thought it felt pretty decent.
I suppose there could have been a better balance though and overall i do agree that it's not a game you play the combat.

This game made me ragequit countless times. I love the storytelling and the vibes but the combat is so janky, ntm the amount of times I cleared an area only for the game to crash.

As much as the combat may have been a design issue - the crashes sounds like a different issue, something else going on I think?
The doctor at the hospital (cant remember his name) sounds like hes been voiced by the voice who also voiced another doctor in the game , "The Suffering" *the psycho doc

I think it was one of those things where it was on game pass or a "free" month playstation game so i popped it in to check it out, but i had a main game i was playing at the time or something and just never really got back to it. So many games out there you know? One day I might get back to checking this out but I have such a big backlog of games and I have heard this one isn't exactly stellar. Like you said if a game isn't keeping interest there are so many others

When you're used to games with breathtaking graphics on PS5 this is just not worth the while in 2024.
That's a fair perspective - overall PS5 does have some amazing stuff! If you're not only focused on graphics though and really enjoy the story side of things you may be surprised with Vampyr

@@Kairac112 I think the graphics hold up in a lot of areas especially like the world but i think the character models play up sometimes - i think the artstyle also really helps the game shine in that aspect

I played it for the first time in 2024 and I say its worth about 5 dollars on sale, because it was clearly released completely unfinished. I'm not even talking about the jank, but specifically that your choices are so inconsequential they don't even change dialogue. Constantly in the story I wanted to play a character who wasnt simping for communists or screeching activists, but each and every time I chose to respond in conversation with disapproval, the character would immediately turn it into "youre right, but you better be careful who you say that to"
The worst example was when he visits the priest, confesses his sins, and you can end up on a dialogue path that allows you to choose to desire to repent....and then immediately he will 180, call the priest a knob, and swear to end all patriarchal religion. Just as bad was the "pillar" system, where if purposely killed someone I found annoying it was treated like this horrific loss for the community even in the case of say, a drug addict living under a bridge. Worse if they were a "pillar", like the woman organizing a fucking (ironically) vampiric political campaign in the middle of a fucking PLAGUE, and trying to cripple efforts to help being so important that if YOU TAKE OVER DOING THE SAME JOB SHE WAS, THE DISTRICT WILL FALL.
Or the only fucking redeemable character, the "sad saint", who will die and drag the entire district to hell if you dont exhaust a random line of dialogue with a completely unrelated character at a specific point in the story where you find out he was molested or some shite.
Or equally stupid, when you turn the old man, he builds a wall around a part of town that is already walled off, and somehow because npcs that never leave their zones arent allowed to enter from contaminated zones (which they never were), the zone without contamination....becomes contaminated.
Oh, and the anger at swansea was comical in context.
The game was either never finished, or was written by a bunch of immature partisans who couldnt bear to let you make logical choices, and was more interested in punishing players and characters that didnt obey their moral law, regardless of its logic or realism.
Still fun for 5 bucks though, if only to vamp out on characters you get tired of and for the scene you get for turning the vampire hunter.

I do think unfinished may not be the right term perhaps but maybe the way they set up choices and consequences could've been done better. I do remember some being a bit unexpected but for the most part I still had a good time
@@dox_plays That's why I struggle to decide what really happened. Knowing that they were the ones who did LiS makes me lean away from the "unfinished" idea, but at the same time, it seems REALLY strange to have him verbally contradict your choices every time you pick the option that seems to get too close to the idea of personal responsibility or natural law, and you'd think they just...I dunno, didnt put the option into it in the first place if they dont want you playing like that.
I still find the wall bit to be infuriating, at least I can accept that the nurse was doing more than the doctor was capable of, or I can accept that the doctor will never have less than progressive views, but literally separating yourself from the sick causing sickness just pissed me off.
They should make a sequel where you play your own character, something like "vampyr: the masquerade"

That's fair! I'm the same really, I didn't think Vampyr was that bad though in terms of Soulslike mechanics but I can definitely appreciate the frustration!
Solid 6.5 for me. It sucks that core gameplay mechanics are at best mediocre. Fighting gets repetitive (except with other vampires and bosses) but the overall enemy design is good. Talking with NPCs is boring (probably because there are so many of them and conversations mostly lead nowhere), but the main quest is excellent. Graphics, voice acting, choices, difficulty - those are great, and I would enjoy it more if it were just a 10-15 hour game.
Yeah, I think a lot of those criticisms I've seen echoed and warranted, I still definitely had a pretty good time overall though and I agree it probably didn't need to be as long
They need to stop making games that punish you for having fun and stop incentivizing the player to be really really boring. We have a vampire game but don’t you dare think about being vampirey or you will get the bad ending. Somehow this is one of my top games.
