Elvis has sold more records than any other recording artist. They really don't even know how many he has sold but it is over a billion. His satellite program was seen in over 40 countries, was the first satellite performance ever and was watched by 3 times as many people as the moon landing. He recorded so many records that you could actually do a different recording for nearly two years 750+ recordings. He was the entertainer of the 20th century and people of your generation probably don't realize how much he influenced culture of all types. There will never be another one like him.❤❤❤

How kind was Elvis? Enough to make sure the original singer of this song (Big Mama Thronton) got a royalty payment. Gave his all-black household staff new Cadillacs for x-mas, too. Boy, did Cnl. Parker know a star when he saw one--A white guy that sang and danced black style and handsome as a Greek God. What I love about him? How humble of a celebrity he was and his love for the African American going all the way back to his childhood.

There's really no way someone her age, born into a world that is so very different from the world (and the music) of the 1950s to even begin to have an appreciation for this performance. There had just never been anything like him before. Well, I take that back. Musically and in terms of stage moves and dance style, there were other's doing music like this but they were Black performers, hidden from view in smokey, dimly lit juke joints in the Deep South, in a VERY racially segregated USA, so the vast majority of White folks rarely (if ever) heard or witnessed anything quite like this. Imagine a world in which there's no such thing as a personal computer and no such thing as the internet. Then, suddenly, the computer appears on the market, this new thing called the internet is introduced into the culture, and it changes EVERYTHING. That's the impact that Elvis had on the social fabric of America when he appeared on the scene. You'll hear people say he "stole" Black music. It's a ridiculous accusation. First of all because no one "owns" a style of music. It's not "owned" by anyone then, by definition, it can't be "stolen". Secondly, and more importantly, he grew up in what today would be called a "Poor White Trash" family living in a financially impoverished section of town in which his neighbors and childhood playmates were Black kids and White kids. Basically, a ghetto situation. Elvis didn't "appropriate" Black culture. He was born and raised in the thick of it.

you misunderstand him stealing music. the term should be black artists music. that is a concept elvis fans will never understand or they will deny it. he didn't steal the music of black artists, his promoter did. the colonel paid bid $ for song writers to write stuff for elvis. Elvis was just his puppet. elvis was not raised in the ghetto, he spent some time there, and as elvis playing with black children, all children played together elvis was no saint. the colonel made elvis and the colonel destroyed elvis and elvis allowed it, because he was a puppet.

The moves and music you just heard - were the closest that girls in those days came to anything "sexually suggestive". Now those moves would be no big deal. But back then, police wanted to put Elvis in jail for them. Also, many girls and their mothers liked his looks. Watch the "Milton Berle Show Elvis performance of this same song. I love me some Hair Bands.. but was I losing my mind screaming at the concerts.. no.. I loved Bon Jovi the most.. Journey 2nd.. I've seen them as a teenager all the way up to my 40's.. never once was I losing my mind.. but back in the day, Elvis and the Beatles made little girls lose it.. personally I don't get it.. but not from that era. it was different back then. I do not think some of todays generation get it, this was music revolution back then, no one moved on stage or sang like that before Elvis. Songs were this short because the jukeboxes of the time only allowed less than 2 minute plays as did the radio stations. The girls understood back then what he was doing. Slight correction that live concert was watched by 1 billion people around the world. I think you need to show her more Elvis.

who was on the stage before elvis and did you go to those shows to quantify your comment?

Hi and thanks for your reply, If only I could have been there to see Elvis in the 50's alas I am too young. However, I do not make my comment flippantly or with disrespect to any generation, I make it having read, listened to and watched Elvis's peers in the music business make these comments, I have read countless articles by music experts who document the evolution of music down the decades and some centuries. I also take on board all of what has been spoken by the people or actual teenagers of the day who witnessed a music revolution unfold before their eyes. Today we have countless musicians currently recording that sight Elvis as a major influence on their music journey. You can also go watch the music of the time and you will see performers on stage not doing what Elvis would later do and did. If you are serious to know, there are countless videos and references online and in books that I would be more than happy to link or direct you towards. Thanks for your comment and I hope this reply is respectful and helpful to you. @@bwana-ma-coo-bah425

@@stevenoels2757 the only people Elvis influenced are the ones that impersonate him. name these musicians of today that was a major influence on their journey and I will debunk everyone of them. these teenagers you speak of were all going to black clubs because that is where all the action was. white america needed a great white hope to get these white girls out of the black clubs. remember we are talking about the 50's not 2023. i know more about Elvis than you think.

Elvis loved to move, dance, but he was censored as too sexy. That is why he is acting strange on the stage. The first time on Sullivan show he did his normal moves and caused havoc with producers, parents, etc.

Most artists if not all, once you've seen one of their shows, you. have roughly seen them all. You will get the same kind of thing all the time. but Elvis never did 2 shows or songs the same. even in the 50s. Let alone the 60s and 70s.

    • @bwana-ma-coo-bah425

@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Yes 76 -77. Perhaps some of 75. But 1970 he was different to 72. 73 different again. To 74. 75. 68 tv show. Completely different. Even his looks in them areas. Again in the 50s -60s. I'm just saying you don't get the same thing all the time.

OK.... sometimes reactions are premature. The little girl on the right is totally correct and I applaud her reaction... yes ... but... she has zero clue as to the context at which this performance was ultimately done. She is pure and unrehearsed, that is what I'm looking for. Now that all said... give me a woman or a man, that has 20 years of watching everyone but Elvis, and give me that reaction.
