  • Step by step how to replace/service a Ford AC compressor pulley on a 1989 Mustang. This was done as part of project so it could be sent off for polishing. Procedure is typical of many brands/makes/models. Follows Ford manual. Don't ride around without air conditioning in your Foxbody Mustang.
    Compressor was polished by Ortiz Aluminum Polishing you can easily find him on Facebook.
    Air gap for this vehicle is 0.021-0.36 inch. Refer to your vehicle manual for your specific vehicle.
    Hub retaining nut torque spec = 55-65 ft-lbs (from Ford manual)
    Tools used-
    T80L-19703-B removal tool for outer hub
    T80L-19703-G to remove compressor pulley bearing from compressor
    2 jaw puller - only needed if your bearing is really tight and won't come off
    Snap ring pliers
    1 inch open end wrench
    1/2 in socket
    Spanner or tool to grip compressor hub while torquing retaining nut
    Feeler gauge

      Will be at Motorcity Foxfest next week then several weekends to work on my car. Fuel systems vortech, and wrapping up the ProM install up next.

      It's usually obviously when the bearing starts to go. I like to just replace the pulley and the clutch when I take them apart but in this case almost brand new still.

    Is that a 134-A compressor or?

      This is OEM compressor (actually original to car) that I swapped the manifold connectors on top and rebuilt it like 8 years ago.
