That’s the way I have mine. 84.5. Have left my smog pump just sitting there on mine, for now. Been 4 years lol. LMR has all these diagrams with belt sizes on their website which is what I used at the time.

I use to get rid of the smog and ac and move the ps up. Now I'm 44, I NEED ac 🤣🤣🤣

To be honest I always went the shorter belt version. I worried about how close the belt was to itself and kept checking. I'd rather get a new belt every 2 or 3 years and have the cleaner look. Just my opinion. The front of the motor just looks cleaner that way imo

I liked to have never figured out how to run the belt on my 351 Windsor, no smog pump or A/C. I ended up running it exactly like you said, was the correct way.

I need a route with only the alternator and water pump. Going to a manual rack. I've heard I need to take apart and reverse the tensioner.

i just did this today same routing on my 87 with old BBK underdrive pulleys on the crank and water pump and i've done the 3g alternator upgrade.
tried so many different belts local parts stores had on hand.. second to last try was a gates 77" and with the tensioner pulled all the way up couldnt get the belt on the alt.. so went to a 77-1/2" which was within the tensioners 'range' gauge but there was maybe a credit card's clearance between the water pump and tensioner pulley.. had to pull the alternator's original top mount bolt for a slimmer grade 8 bolt and bump the top of the alt toward the pass side about 1/4 of an inch and secured it in place a window net mounting tab for a tube chassis car between the bolt and the spot the tensioner bolts onto.. can fit the tip of my pointer finger between the pulleys now but it's gunna chew it self if it stretches.. what a day..
thinking it's time to lop off the spring tensioner side of the original alternator bracket and grab some metal dowels for spacing, a threaded sleeve, and a couple heim joints from the local tractor supply for manual adjustment. 🙃

What about alt, water pump and crank? Best route for the belt?

My truck has the smog pump delete. However, I have a larger pulleys on crank and water pump. Wound up using a 90” belt for the routing.

For the smog pump delete everyone said to go with a 84.5" belt I tried it and ended up going with a 85" belt

    Ok
    So serious question here.
I just went through this a couple of weeks ago. I studied the routing pic circulating the interwebs.
I have the 3G upgrade with the LMR bracket. So I just used the shorter belt, (I think 78.5), and drilled a hole for the tensioner pin, (not the bolt), so I could rotate it slightly, for that exact reason. So it doesn’t rub when the belt stretches. I rotated it to a point where the range needle is still relevant also.
Any way. Getting to my point.
So the routing you show at the beginning will spin the WP counterclockwise, but the one you used is clockwise. Correct? I must have traces my finger around those pics 20 times to grasp it. Lol
Are you saying the WP will work correctly spinning either direction?
I mean, I’m fine for now, but I may have to change it someday.
    Thanks a bunch.
    Donnie

I have a '79 and have been considering the Heidt's front end kit and eventually going with a Godzilla and a 6R80. the twin I beams need to go to give me better brakes and better wheel options, such as a 5 x 4 3/4". Thanks, for all of the how to's.

It doesn't change the direction the pulley turns, but rather the order they're pulled. Originally, the water pump was pulled last; w/"Caleb's way", it's pulled first.
