I was just about to say the same thing. I learned this method on the Ba-Ba sheep colorwork hat tutorial (not the exact name but I always get it wrong) for catching floats.
Method 1 is possible to do in continental knitting too. Just hold both ends over the left finger with a space between them (weave in end towards yourself) and vary between knitting the working yarn over and under the weave in end
omg this is unrelated to weaving in the ends but may I just say. the method you showed of catching the floats by wrapping it clockwise around the working needle is HUGE to me. I was just putting my yarn down and physically moving the yarn ball over my working yarn. this changes colorwork completely for me. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this idea!! I use this method with color work to catch my floats all the time but NEVER thought to use this to weave in ends as I knit!! This is a game changer and I love how clear your instructions are!! Great work!!
👏🏻👏🏻🤩💯🏆🥳🎉💐 FABULOUS techniques! GREAT video: truly appreciate your clear closeups & exact explanations & careful movements during the examples!! AWESOME teacher!!! Thank You Sooooo Much for sharing your time and talents with us!!!💕❤️💕 I knit Combination method with Continental style… have always struggled with throwing yarn from right hand… I’d better get to it because I’m not gonna learn it any younger!😉🤭😄🤭
These are all great tips to make ends SOOO much easier to deal with. You don't need to switch hands to do the first method as a continental knitter. That's the method used to catch long runs between color work, but just alternated every-other stitch vs every 4th or 5th stitch. I recently learn continental in order to more easily do color work, so in theory, being a continental knitter would make that method of knitting in a tail even easier...
Thank you for this video. I think I've finally understood where I've been going wrong with this method every time I've tried it (basically I have been throwing the yarn tail the wrong way over the needle (as if I was kitting it) which meant I could never catch it properly)
Another way to do the two color ends (your examples # 3 and 4) is to weave in one end on your first row, then weave in the second end on your next row. This was a tip by Stephen West.
I am a continental knitter (crocheter at heart), so I learned how to adapt your technique for just using my left hand to hold the yarn! It works great.
This technique exists in a continental version where you can hold both yarns in your left hand and vary between going over and under the end while knitting. Much faster for us continental people.
Thanks for the notes. I had tried this previously and I believe I must have pulled the cut yarn through with the working yarn so didn't do what it was supposed to. THANKS!
For those cracked fingers - super glue works well but you have to re-apply it every day till the crack heals. For cracking heals on your feet, use athletes foot cream. This works and it works well. I've been doing it for about 6 years now whenever they start to crack. As you get older it seems to be an ever present problem. As for the tutorial, thank you so much for all the information. I can't wait to try it!
I learned this weaving method with Anne from Philosopher's 4 stitch or 2 stitch method Wool with VCR tapes -- that shows me how old I am! Lol. Sometimes I choose floats and sometimes I use the weaving method because they affect the fabric differently. But this is how I do my ends when doing stripes. Good demo.
I love this technique and decided to try it out on my current project but the stitches before a color change are purl stitches. How do you knit over the ends when working purl stitches? I have found that the trapped yarn shows to the front. Thank you for the awesome video.
It's nice to have many options! I have been using the Elizabeth Zimmerman Method for years. Giving credit where credits due :) She lead the way and her methods continue.
Great video, learned alot. I dont think this would work for a multi coloured garter stich blanket, i think it would show through. Will try it though, ty for sharing 😊
I’m sure someone asked this already, but how do you weave in your ends if you are knitting garter and you find yourself on the purl side when you need to join in a new skein. I’m currently working on the Barley Hat by Tincan Knits.
Cant wait to try technique 2 for weaving in ends. I usually just knit with the working yarn and tail at the same time which does create a slightly thicker stitch for a little bit but this method is much better! How have you found this technique holds up in the wash? Thank you for sharing.
Hi Nat I use your 2nd 2 colour version but … I weave in the first (old) yarn on the first row after the colour change, and then the 2nd colour (new colour) in the 2nd round of the new colour. I also like to tie knots but I know that’s also a controversial topic amongst knitters. I just prefer to know that it’s going to stay where I put it and not wriggle undone 😉
Thank you for this tutorial. I often wondered and tried trapping the yarn using both hands but failed but your video was very clear so I’m going to try again.
Hi, I’m watching your video on joining a new color of yarn. You are making socks on a circular needle, my question is can this be done with circular needles doing two socks at a time?
So glad you are showing this method. I've been doing this since dinosaurs roamed the earth. I don't have a youtube channel, and find myself telling the TV...no,no there's an easier way. Steven West calls it weaven Steven when he joins, but it's not as neat I don't think
Hi Natalie, I just found your tutorial and it’s super helpful but I’m knitting a 2x2 ribbed temperature blanket that has a lot of colour changes and a 1x1 ribbed border so I’m wondering how I weave in my ends when doing rib….. is it possible? Do you have a tutorial on your channel you could link for me. It’s great to find someone that English knits like me btw….. I really struggle to learn how to continental knit! Jenny😊
Hey Jennifer! You can use this method on a knit row or a purl row*, however, I’ve never done it with rib, as in knit and purl stitched within the same rows. I’ll link the purl tutorial for you. Maybe they can be used in combination? *Here’s the purl tutorial (it’s on IG): instagram.com/reel/CdDvl24Ai0B/?igsh=MTRxdHp5Y3FiYXprZQ==
For dry cracked hands use vaseline. Not vaseline lotion but the actual original vaseline. It is amazingly quick to repair skin. I would put it on at bedtime. Let me know if you try it.
On the last tips you can knit over the two colors, one on each in alternate stitches. So knit over color A on stitch 1, then knit over Color B on stitch 2, knit over color A on stitch 3, knit over color B on stitch 4, and so on.
I crochet and knit and in both situations, I don't actually put the working yarn over my hook/needle. I swing my hook/needle over the working yarn and catch it in my hook/needle and pull it through that way. These videos are impossible for me to relate to without a lot of figuring out what that'd look like for me. Is there anyone who knits like me that does these videos or am I just weird? I'm ok with being weird. It works for me.
I use this method to catch my floats when knitting colourwork.

Same. I knit a whole colorwork cardigan by twisting my skeins to catch the floats!
Thank you so much for this idea!! I use this method with color work to catch my floats all the time but NEVER thought to use this to weave in ends as I knit!! This is a game changer and I love how clear your instructions are!! Great work!!
Yay! Finally a technique that works better English-style than continental!
👏🏻👏🏻🤩💯🏆🥳🎉💐
FABULOUS techniques!

That is how I catch the floats when I have more than 5 stitches in between when I do colorwork😊
Your photography is perfect to understand your explanation. Thank you.
#4... 🤯 - in a good way! Thank you Natalie for this tutorial! Super helpful.
You are a WONDERFUL teacher Natalie!

Yep that is how I do it. Thanks for reminding where I learned that trick
That’s the way I like to knit in ends. Less bulk, no see through.
Brilliant , I am knitting up all my odd balls of wool and this will help me a lot ❤ good tip 👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧🇬🇧
This is AWESOME!!! Thank you so much. I hate knitting in ends!
I love it , I totally love it !!!! Thank you🎉❤ millions of times thank you🎉🎉🎉
I am a continental knitter (crocheter at heart), so I learned how to adapt your technique for just using my left hand to hold the yarn! It works great.
I will try this, but is the yarn really getting caught and woven in? Or just following along the yarn , but under in a row?

@@Bodille I’m having trouble visualizing what you are doing 😢 . Can you direct me to a video that shows what you are talking about?!
Good morning everyone, happy February 1st! Fun socks Natalie. Have a blessed weekend everyone.
Just tried these techniques in my current project and it’s a game changer, thank you xx
Thank you. That was very well explained. I'm going to try this on my temperature blanket
Your tutorial style is so clear, so well worded, to the point and visually easy to see!!
Thank you for breaking this down!
Thanks for this great tip! What a beautiful timesaver!! Much love from Cobbs Creek, Virginia USA 🇺🇸❤️
Wow! Who knew it would be so simple a technique(?).
Thx 💖🙌🙌🙌😺
Wowowowowwowo....oh man...so happy over this!...thank you!
A+ TEACHER. GREAT instructions. 👍
Hi Natalie,thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the tips! I'm new to color work and this was helpful!!
What a great video! So obvious, but easy to overthink it.
Thanks for the notes. I had tried this previously and I believe I must have pulled the cut yarn through with the working yarn so didn't do what it was supposed to. THANKS!
Fantastic tutorial! I am doing a color work sweater and this will change the game for me!

Very nice demonstration and explanation
This is so cool! This seems to me a lot like carrying up the yarn on the sides but done horizontally across the row!
Wowowoweeee...love this so much!..love all you video..thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful tips
Brilliant video! I new to proper knitting and this is now getting saved as a favourite thank you!
Awesome tutorial! Thank you Natalie!
Fantastic tutorial, thanks!!
Fantastic My new method of weaving in the dreaded end! Thank you
Wow! I can’t wait to try this…. Thank you for the tip!
Learned a lot. Thanks for sharing
Natalie - happy 2023! Do you have a pattern for your Sweetheart Socks?
I learned this weaving method with Anne from Philosopher's 4 stitch or 2 stitch method Wool with VCR tapes -- that shows me how old I am! Lol. Sometimes I choose floats and sometimes I use the weaving method because they affect the fabric differently. But this is how I do my ends when doing stripes. Good demo.
Thank you for this tutorial this is just AWESOME 🤩! So so so perfect! Thank you! 🤗

Thank you for the awesome video.
The second two color method is exactly what I needed for my structure loop sweater!! I wish I would’ve found this video before I cast it on 😩
Great tips

Brilliant ❤
Great video, learned alot. I dont think this would work for a multi coloured garter stich blanket, i think it would show through. Will try it though, ty for sharing 😊
Blown away!! Thank you much this video is fantastic!! Are you daying this cantvbev some for Contennial knitters?
This was a really useful video. How well do the ends stay put with this methods? I have always been taught to weave in my yarn in multiple directions
This was great thank you.
Great tip, thank you🤗
Omgeee thank you for this!!!! I just bought the pattern!!!!
This is so great!!
Hello from Mounds Illinois.
Hmmm...wonder if any of these will work for Fisherman's Rib?

You could wait to knit in the new color end until the second round if you did not want it to show through.
Nice, Thanks💕

This is so clever! I'm a continental knitter, how can I adapt it for that?
How does this method compare to the method taught on other videos where you twist the yarn One direction and then twisted the other direction?
Hi, I’m watching your video on joining a new color of yarn. You are making socks on a circular needle, my question is can this be done with circular needles doing two socks at a time?
What about alternating your weave catches of the two colors at the same time when weaving in two colors?

Ooooh I will have to try that! Great idea!!
Is there a way to do this if you normally knit continental? Or will it change my gauge at all If the rest of the sock is Continental?
Belleza 🧦
❤❤❤
Don't agree with all the loose ends. Not only does it look messy, but it would drive my feet batty. I would feel every single loose strand.
Why do every other? Why wouldn't we go over 15 in a row?
W😮W
