My dad would listen to Handel's Messiah every year at Christmas. ...This Christmas, I don't have him. I am listening to this because I miss him. He served as a pastor for at least the 39 years of my life and, while fighting pancreatic cancer, he was diagnosed with 6 months and lived 3 years instead. Every visit to the VA and the doctors and the MRI and the surgery and the chemo... he used any strength he had to ask everyone, "Do you know Jesus? How is your relationship with Jesus?" He reached out to nurses, orderlies, staff... even as he had to use a rollator to get around, he still had my mom take him to Market Square and he would sit and share the Word of God with whatever strength he had right until the end. God, make me as bold. May God bring you peace in this difficult time. Know He is there. He has not forsaken you. We just must be still and quiet enough to hear Him. He is there to comfort like nothing you have ever known. Sometimes we have to get rid of distractions in our lives so we can hear Him.
Perhaps the most magnificent comment I have ever read - having read thousands. I served with my 97 year old father on the Midway today encouraging visitors who cared to stop to Talk with a WWII Veteran Today that the Lord has this whole apparently crazy mess - and, yes, He has it with crazy Joy, nearly unspeakable except as in your father's case, with severe mercy and joy. Merry Christmas. Shalu Shalom, Yerushalaim. Can't wait to meet him with Him!
Thanks for sharing 👍 the story of your dad.. may his strength be a testament to all us Christians that we serve and obey to the end.. Because our end is a start of a new heavenly beginning ✨️ 😊 faith to all unto death.. thanks and praise be to Jesus....and God our father
I have listened to this performance several times but this year I needed it more than ever. Having terminal cancer in the time of Covid I sometimes wonder what will get me first, but this video makes me much more accepting of whatever God has planned for me. I am grateful to UA-cam for making wondrous musical experiences like this as close as my computer, and I plan on leaving this world fulfilled.
Ronald, when the time comes your transition will be glorious! Your spirit will be lifted by the grace of God, free as a bird may you soar throughout the Universe. Peace & blessing brother.
The best modern performance of this work. I started singing Messiah in 1965 as a senior in high school as the soprano soloist. I continued on to sing in the concert choir at ASU in the later 60's. What a JOY to sing this wonderful work. Interestingly I knew who Jesus was through this music, but did not commit my life to HIM until 1983. I sang the Messiah every year with some group as I grew into maturity either as a soloist or in the choir. I know now at 76 He had been calling me through the music because I was not hearing any other way at the time. I still have the same score from high school which I cherish with all the markings over the years. I love to sing along even though my soprano voice has lost its height and flexibility but I can hear my voice as I sing along having memorized it all. What a JOY in my life to have this in my heart. Jesus is The Reason for The Season.
”“Comfort and keep comforting my people,” says your God. “Tell Yerushalayim to take heart; proclaim to her that she has completed her time of service, that her guilt has been paid off, that she has received at the hand of Adonai double for all her sins.” A voice cries out: “Clear a road through the desert for Adonai! Level a highway in the ‘Aravah for our God! Let every valley be filled in, every mountain and hill lowered, the bumpy places made level and the crags become a plain. Then the glory of Adonai will be revealed; all humankind together will see it, for the mouth of Adonai has spoken.” A voice says, “Proclaim!” And I answer, “What should I proclaim?” “All humanity is merely grass, all its kindness like wildflowers: the grass dries up, the flower fades, when a wind from Adonai blows on it. Surely the people are grass! The grass dries up, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever.” You who bring good news to Tziyon, get yourself up on a high mountain; you who bring good news to Yerushalayim, cry out at the top of your voice! Don’t be afraid to shout out loud! Say to the cities of Y’hudah, “Here is your God! Here comes Adonai Elohim with power, and his arm will rule for him. Look! His reward is with him, and his recompense is before him. He is like a shepherd feeding his flock, gathering his lambs with his arm, carrying them against his chest, gently leading the mother sheep.” Who has counted the handfuls of water in the sea, measured off the sky with a ruler, gauged how much dust there is on the earth, weighed the mountains on scales, or the hills in a balance? Who has measured the Spirit of Adonai? Who has been his counselor, instructing him?“ Yesha 'yahu (Isa) 40:1-13 CJB bible.com/bible/1275/isa.40.1-13.CJB
I enjoyed reading your beautiful story of Christ’s redemption of your life. I am so looking forward to heaven, when we can forever share of His lovingly personal work of grace in each of us. God bless you, Christ is coming soon. 🙏🏼

For those interested the venue is L'Abbeye de la Chaise Dieu near Lavaudieu, France. The Abbey is a famous 14th Century church. In the concert you can see a tomb in the audience, which is a rare Papal tomb not in the Vatican, of Clement VI. Also note the mediaeval mural going round the wall near the altar showing a Danse Macarbe.

I had my door opened while the6 tenor was singing and a small sparrow came near my door and sang his little heart out. I was so happy and blessed it never happened to me before!😄👌😇
Oh how sweeeet. Happened to me on a balcony in Spain my friend was singing a praise and one little bird popped down in flight and sang a few notes then left.
The fascinating thing is that he also wrote it in only a couple of days (Wikipedia says 24 days). As far as I know it was over the summer when the autumnal opera season was already coming up - so he had to finish quickly. Just unfathomable.
My father was a college music professor and a music minister. He conducted this every Christmas. As a child ,watching him stand in front of choir and orchestra, was heroic. He’s been gone for 30 years, but I see him when I listen to this great work.
Despite my enjoyment of the Supremes and the Beatles, my music professor, Dr. Richard von Ende at McMurry University in Abilene, TX, inspired me to appreciate real music. I shall be ever grateful. Your dear father was a blessing to many, I am certain.
I wonder if it is because of the tuning in addition to the inherent beauty of the music. I’m a Baroque harpsichordist and we don’t often play in the modern western tuning. Maybe whatever temperament they are using is more similar to what you are used to?
Music is music. It can appeal to anyone's ears regardless of the language, words or sound. :-) Of course, if one understands the words, there's that much more depth to the music!
Christine Wright, I so agree! Just finished watching the entire performance...I hope I'll be able to sing like that for Him some day. What a testimony to hard work and perseverance.
As now, I am an adult Black American, I reflect with unspeakable joy, my young teenage years living in a very tiny country town in MISSISSIPPI. Then being bussed, to a rare HBCU/AG-HIGH SCHOOL in another tiny country town in Mississippi, previously attended by my momma and aunt and uncle. As a High School student in the chior my LOVE of classical music only heightened. Music meant the world to me. I also played Tenor-Sax as an advid member of the band. I now play this for my 5 children. This was a fantastic performance!!! Eternally thankful for this artform.🥰🥰🥰🥰
Just found who the performers are: Collegium 1704 conducted by Václav Luks Hana Blažíková, soprano; Delphine Galou, contralto; Markus Brutscher, tenor; Marián Krejcik, bass
I confess I have never been brought to my knees, prostrated into submission, gasping to catch my breath, tearful and spine tingling until I sat before this performance. Rare is a version which executes exacting perfection of a timeless piece , where other attempts pale. Colleagues , friends, relatives are equally enamored at their initial encounter with this masterpiece.
Now that’s it’s being played more often on replicated period instruments (gut strings, etc) and period-sized orchestras, as this version is - as it was originally performed, and meant to be performed - it is less ponderous than when played by a modern, 80-piece orchestra. Thus, it’s a “low-fat, no-fat” version: de-light-ful!
I have heard this piece live every year since 1969 and this year can’t as I’m recovering from surgery. So I scanned UA-cam for one I could watch as I listened and thank God found this sparkling gem. Stunning in its clarity and joyful pace. All four voices flawless and with personality. A right sized chorus. Thank you to all the artists, and to the business folks who enabled this.
Jeff First, recover well. I have sung this live every year since 1967, both as a soloist and chorus, so I understand your attachment to this tradition. There were a couple of times I wished for a slightly slower pace ( Pastoral Symphony) but that’s nit picking. A sterling job by soloists, orchestra and chorus.
Haim, I have absolutely no idea. Never asked any other musician or singer about their religious affiliation. I myself am an atheist who sings this music because it is beautiful. Some ask how I can sing what I don’t believe. I sing the old time classic “Long Black Veil” and have never murdered anyone.
A wonderful performance! You Tube doesn't share the info, but the director is Vaclav Lucs, and that fabulous alto is Delphine Galou. The group is Collegium 1704, in Prague. No info on where this was performed. They have a Bach B minor mass, too!
This rendition of the Messiah is the best one I've ever heard. I missed it when it was no where to be found. So gad it's back available. I love the excellence of the director and the performers and can feel the anointing of God come through them. I believe Handel's music originated in heaven
I found this performance about 4 years ago and have watched it over and over in subsequent years. Messiah has brought me great peace since I first heard it nearly 60 years ago, however, I’ve never enjoyed a rendition more than this one. Thanks be to God for your marvelous interpretation of this classic and timeless tribute to the Savior, Jesus Christ.
I have been an avid listener to the Messiah for 63 years and have heard (and participated in) numerous performances. This is by far the best I have ever heard. The orchestra, chorus, soloists, are all first rate, and the interpretation is so lively and nuanced in many ways. It is the absolute best. A fantastic gem!
Very good ... I am novice, no doubt, as to classical, baroque, or any style compared to your seniority.... But may I humbly suggest to find -VOX 2 7502 MESSIAH Radio:Baird/Lane Price/Deas VOX 2 cd set , complete recording of Handel's own LONDON COVENT GARDEN 1749 PERFORMANCE . This HWV 56 sounds very similar but VOX performance is notches above....
I have seen and heard the Messiah sung by choirs of 200 or more, with 50 orchestral instruments, and NONE OF THEM come close to the beauty of this performance. GREAT!
This is my "go to" Messiah performance. The interpretation is lively and precise, and the director and performers exhibit that they know the majesty of which they are singing. I hope it continues to remain available.
It is very good indeed. I have seen live performances of the full oratorio that exceed even this in sections and there may not be recordings of them. Also in reviewing recently some others such as conductor Trevor Pinnock and Gardner ( versions are available on YT ) that both have merit and some excellent sections, it is clear to me that The Word of YHWH is truly living and active, sharp and powerful. This allows for newness and annointing in this timeless music that exceeds our understanding. The Word is truly forever and ever. This is an awesome and mysterious component of God, so that I no longer believe that there is any single version of The Messiah that is supreme. We will have our favorite (s), but clearly Father will be exalted in each performance of Messiah. There are many versions that I certainly do not care for, but I am likely not right in how I perceive these. His Word will accomplish that which is intended. The intent of the listener is varied and is of great importance in receiving these heavenly sounds. May you be richly blessed, even and especially in those times of bitter waters, trials and testings. Bryan
Along with all the other kudos for this amazing performance, let's give credit to the videographers, who captured the spirit and the beauty of these young people so well. I have sung in many Messiahs, and I know how difficult it is to get the entrances so sharp, the runs so clear, the diction so perfect- and assume English is a second language for these Czechs. A heavenly Messiah.
Carol, you identify the performers as Czech. Can you tell me the date/place of the performance? The name of the conductor? The orchestra? Thank you, Freddie

Actually, not to detract from Handel, but it was his friend (can't remember his name at the moment) who chose the Scriptures and asked Handel to put them to music. He wrote the music, borrowing a little from his earlier operas, in one month. Amazing and inspired.
The people never heard anything like this when it was first played. "What is this?" "What do my ears hear?" "What do I listen to?" It is a story, an experience, a triumph, an ecstasy, a supreme uplifting, a superlative bonding and attainment of human spirit. Thank you Mr. Handel.
I’m a Catholic nun, 35 yrs old. I grew up listening to this at home. It’s the day before Ash Wednesday when everyone will celebrate Mardi Gras. But I can think of no better preparation for Lent than this exquisite rendition of the Messiah. It is phenomenal.
I remember singing in the Messiah 2 years in a row and we even did when I was in High School. Whar memories and I had the honor of doing " But who may abide" and the day of his coming will be Wonderful
There indeed is nothing to add, and the performers are truly beyond inspirational messengers. Handel would weep with joy and Our Messiah is in his radiance timelessly smiling. Listening to this, hope and restoration of faith are restored in jubilation.....even in the darkest hour.
With all that is going on in the world, the evil that is mounting and manifesting itself, listening to Handel's Messiah brings me great peace and joy knowing that God is in control. He sent his Son to be the propitiator for Man. What a wonderful recording. Thank you so much for lifting my spirits in these troubling times. We know this all has a wonderful and incredible end that marks a new beginning for us. All thanks to the Prince of Peace and glory to God.
Every country who is at war, whether a civil war or against other nations, should have to listen to Handel's "Messiah" before taking up arms. It doesn't matter what religion one is. This symphony is universal in its hopes for peace and reconciliation. Also, how did these guys do this? The composers of yesteryear are absolutely amazing and impossible to replicate. I bow down to the musical excellence of these men.
July 2022- I listen to the Messiah whenever I get discouraged. It is stunningly beautiful and uplifting. This rendition is particularly fine! Soloists and conductor all shine. Actually, every singer and instrumentalist is on point. Thank you for lifting me up to the heavens!
@@baptistegiraud1764 There is no greater combination, this side of eternity, than worship and prayer! This magnificent work is beautifully inspired by Handel and Jennens and has led me into prayer of both thanksgiving and petition. 💖
Watched this at work today, Easter Sunday, at Group Home (essential service). Remember singing Hallelujah Chorus in high school at all state auditions back in '70's...even before that, my mother, who sang in church choir--which was recorded on an LP (remember those?)
This performance of Handel's Messiah is the best I have heard live or recorded. Such percision in each note by both the singers and the orchestra. It is truly fantastic.

If Handel was alive to witness such an excellent and exceptional performance of his work, he would have been moved emotionally. The total ensemble from the conductor, the soloists and the chorus were all transformed during this performance. Their souls were lifted, raised to a divine place and they delved into their souls to deliver such an exquisite rendition. Indeed the trumpet sounded, the orchestra responded, and the singers were all changed during this performance 👏 Even the dead were raised incorruptible! The best performance of Handel's Messiah have ever heard.
This is my favourite performance of Handel's Messiah. Thank you Mary Shaw for telling us it is the Collegium 1704 Orchestra. Lol!!! I must visit Prague to attend one of their performances.
Thank goodness this is back on this platform. It has been quite sad to have it gone. I’m glad what ever needed to be worked out has been, because this is a gift to humanity.
How blessed we are to have the ability to see and hear such outstanding performances of the great masters on this Easter Sunday when we are isolated from each other. Thank you God for the gift of music.
Wonderful! I have listened and sung the Messiah many times, but have never hears such an outstanding performance before. It mived me to tears. Bravo. Praise God.
"Fantastic performance," a hackneyed phrase to be sure but it took just a few minutes of listening to this performance to realize that something very special was occurring on that platform. I have loved Handel's Messiah for nearly all of my 70+ years but have never been so moved, so enthralled, so aware of the many nuances and subtle interplays of this magnificent work until tonight. My heavens how could the audience remain in their seats after so powerful a rendition of what is unarguably the greatest oratorio ever written.
@@seigasuki Well...I always say if it aint baroque, don't fix it.... But seriously I found this performance last year and it blew my hair back! I was listening thought it was like a choir the size of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and had to retrieve my jaw from the floor when I saw what phenomenal SOUND was coming from such a small group of musicians!! I enjoy the faces of the singers and musicians and mostly the conductor!!! Virtuosity!!
@@seigasuki Amen and Amen! Hallelujah! And may the village kirks and churches to the great Gothic Cathedrals all across Europe once again resound with glad hymns of praise and thanks to the Almighty, as well as divine music such as this!!!
Every year I stream this and weep and I wonder how many of us gather here. I bet its a lot. And this year especially, in the darkness of wars. Merry Xmas to ye sisters and brothers who glanced down to read the comments. May peace be found in our hearts and go into this world somehow and our fellows be saved and fellow critters be saved from extinction. Amen
I hope you get to meet Handel in that place of absolute bliss, all made possible by our Lord Jesus Christ. I am looking forward to that day myself, when wars and all troubles and pain are absent and always will be. God bless you.

This amazing conductor, Mr. Vaclav Lucs, is so winning! His love of this music and his joy of it carry us all into it with fascination. He personifies it. He makes one think of a man whose angel has won the grace to make his Faith manifest in this most beautiful and exalting way. Such vitality seems in our dark day to be a glimpse of the conversations of heaven. A thousand thanks!
We need this...as some are saying, all of us on our Earth need this...I am so grateful for this capture of what we can be capable of..love to us all. thank you, God

I have tears in my Eyes cause me and my Mum used to make an annual pilgrimage to the local Catholic Church to hear this with a small orchestra.... It is wrapped up with LOTS of good Memories
My piano teacher in the late '50's, Mr Weber, was German. He was also our church organist and had nothing but contempt for the Messiah; he considered it to be "pagan music"! He influenced me against carefully listening to this masterpiece until I reached my 30's! I guess I've made up for lost time. This recording is my favorite of all the versions I have ever heard.
Even if we are all locked down, what does it matter. It is not for ever. He is risen -He is risen indeed and He shall reign FOR EVER - AND EVER. DEO GRATIAS
I love live performances!! Every single word is understood, all notes are clear, fantastic performance.

Splendid... Yes, praise this moment! Handel's "Messiah" is a true masterpiece! How befitting... It's as if the music exudes light. It is said that Handel led this piece even the day before his own death!
I must agree. Have heard “MESSIAH”now for over 20 years. And all over the world ass well. Haven´t heard a better flok of soloists and choire. Never heard a nbettet orkestra and I love the conductor. His entusiasme and love for the Music is is beond words.
There are so many beautiful " Messiahs " - what i really like about this one, is that appropriate reverence is maintained - at the same time as adding so much excitement throughout ... ... very unusual ..
If I were stuck on a desert island and had to choose only one piece of music to listen to, it would be this one. Of course, I'd want the entire corpus of Handel and Bach, not just this.
This conductor is special in that he is bold enough to make the decision on the tempo which make this clean, lively and upbeat rendition stands out from other more traditional versions.
The tempo stands out that's for sure. But is it better? No. Now that we've established that the chorus and soloists are capable of speed vocalizing, maybe they can express the meaning of the text with some heart and soul. Instead of just singing words and notes. Soulless.
Apart from this version simply being alive!!! (it is gloriously vibrant,) I love the fact the soloists are dressed similarly to the orchestra, not as grand entities, but all beautifully recounting each prophecy and scripture such that the glory go to the One who indeed deserves all glory! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to each of you who were part of this glorious rendition of this wonderful work, including those who recorded it for us all to rejoice in ❤🎶❤
My father was not particularly a religious person. Every Christmas morning he'd play the Messiah. This heavenly music would fill the air. I miss him so much this year. I am so grateful for this gift of music, The most precious memory of Christmas. May the blessings of peace and comfort be yours this season.
Praise be to Handel. The delusion of the faith was probably what made him deal with his HUGE talent. But f*ck Jesus and f*uck God this is not the product of any religion this is a human produced piece of art and the only one that should be blessed is the author. F*ck off.
I have been fortunate to have heard a number of live performances of Handel's masterpiece, and they were all very good. I have listened to a good number of UA-cam performances of the Messiah, but this one is brilliant, and in so many ways. The soloists, the conductor, the orchestra, this one is special. I hope you don't mind if I sing along. Many thanks for posting this production of Handel's masterpiece, The Messiah.
Wow! Performed with love and passion! The energy that came through this performance could not have come from anything less than a great love of the music, the Scriptures, and the Lord! And double for that director! He certainly gave it all he had!
"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."Amen.Glory to Jesus Christ!
Walter T Three things Christ never said (1) “I wanna thank my amazing Mom for all her support and encouragement, and I know I couldn’t have done what I done, whatever that is, without her” (2) “Jews should get their own country and all you other guys should get the hell outta here before they cut your fucking heads off” (3) “ You all gotta go to church every Sunday ‘cos if you don’t you’ll rot in hell for ever, and you gotta give all your bread to those great guys in frocks so they can all keep living the way they like it best”
Walter T “Out of the strong came forth sweetness” Samson’s riddle in the Book of Judges is a much weightier metaphysical concept than commentators give it credit for. Metaphor is key to scripture so the idea that the meaning exists on a physical level is absurd. Samson is a Nazarene and so would never be involved in violence of any kind. The battles he is involved in are allegorical - him fighting his own weakness to stay true to the destiny he has been born to, especially his weakness for untrustworthy women. That being the case, the search for meaning needs to be consistent with what is known to be God’s purpose and the operation of the Laws of Nature. Since most commentators are de facto atheists this has not occurred and the story remains on its literal level among people who admire the strength of lions and believe in the survival of the fittest, and have no idea of the real nature of God’s promise to Abraham if he conforms to this purpose and these laws The same applies to the Gospel: the level of allegory, and the truth to which the allegory belongs
@@johnlawrence2757 I think you are right, that He didn't said that. Because: (1) At the time of His speaches, she wasn't up to the Holy standard to come at the stage, as He pointed at His Students calling them Mothers, Brothers, and Sisters. Matthew 12:46-50 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” 48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Nevertheless, Luke 4:8 "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" (2) Matthew 11:21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. (3) Exodus 20:8-11 8 “Remember to ·keep the Sabbath holy [consecrate/sanctify the Sabbath]. 9 Work and get everything done during six days each week, 10 but the seventh day is a ·day of rest to honor [Sabbath to] the Lord your God. On that day no one may do any work: not you, your son or daughter, your male or female slaves, your animals, or the ·foreigners [sojourners; wanderers; resident aliens] living in your ·cities [L gates]. 11 The reason is that in six days the Lord made everything-the ·sky [heavens], the earth, the sea, and everything in them. On the seventh day he rested. So the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and ·made it holy [consecrated/sanctified it].
@@johnlawrence2757 Surely not metaphor is the key, but: Matthew 11:27 ""All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
We have just endured four years of one of the most chaotic administrations in the history of our Nation. This morning I happened on this program. The short prelude or symphonic intro was magnificent and immediately gained my attention; then the tenor solo, "Every Valley shall be exalted, every hill made low" and the beauty of this voice, and the conviction of his sung words, just released a flood of tears that I could not contain, and somehow the tensions were released, and joy, just pure joy flooded my soul. No other way to describe it, absolutely none.
you are totally braiwashed and ignorant, Trump was absolutly not hitler, USA has had much much darker times in its history (war of independance, civil war, jim crow, world wars, vietnam crisis, segregation, political scandals and extremely corrupted politicians during 2 centuries), you totally ignore your own history. And by the way, take away your political garbage and let us enjoy great music without your idiocy.
Tremendous theology in this music but it has nothing to do with Donald Trump who has actually acknowledged Jesus Christ as the king unlike former presidents, both Dem and Republican.
I listen to this every Easter and Christmas,. Best I've ever heard, and I've sung it a dozen times. I think I'll listen to it a thousand more times. I'm in tears, just incredible. Bravo!!!
Handel's MESSIAH is one incredible piece of choral music, and the group most associated with it is the Choir of King's College Cambridge,. However, here is a Czech choir and orchestra- Collegium 1704 - who, in my opinion, outperform the vaunted King's College outfit. Considering that English is not their first language, they manage to elevate the sonorous harmonies and joyous lilting passages with consummate passion and ease. The only time that there is any hint of a non-English choir is the flattened sounds of some vowels. If you can forgive that indiscretion, then you'll be totally caught up in this superb performance.
I've heard single pieces from this masterpiece. I stumbled upon this production and couldn't find it again. Nothing came close to such an eloquent and exquisite reinvigoration. It is the definition of a classic; universal and timeless appeal. Of the over 9M views possibly 1k might be mine.😊
This choir is fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the soloists are just off the chain!!!!!! Bravo. Director, you look pleased, you should, you have done a great job!!!
Not at all, he used to write as quick as many other composers, and he also used to copy and paste form his other previous works, not connected to any religious aim.
@@postfactumlauda The are 4 themes Handel borrowed from himself and completely reworked in Messiah. Borrowing was a common practice in the Baroque. Remember every single cantata of Bach borrows the the choral tune from which the various movements were written. Handel, Mozart and Schubert were all very fast working composers.
@@shnimmuc yes, I know, anyway listen to the Cantata Quel Fior HWV 192 (written one month earlier than the Messiah) and to the aria His Yoke is Easy in the Messiah there is no rework at all :)
There are no words to express such beautiful presentation of expressed devotion to our creator. God's given inspiration. God is amazing and I am humbled.
What a joy! After a lifetime of singing Handel’s Messiah, this is the best performance, all round: every soloist, the chorus and the orchestra, that I have ever seen and heard!!
Its a searching inspirational encounter, not just an excellent performance. I am moved. This will stay with me in my search for the Lord for rest of my time.
This just goes to show that you do not always need a 500 member choir to present a magnificent performance. I love the tempo here. Some seem to drag on and put the audience to sleep. Not this one. It moves along without sacrificing any musical technicalities. I can always tell when it is good performance when I originally wanted to see how they the orchestra does and I end up listening and watching the whole video. Bravo guys!!!
I would venture to say that it is better with a smaller choir - more delicacy. I love this version, the singers are great with great diction; I just find it a bit too fast for my taste, especially that it is the same tempo all through. I think parts like the pastoral pieces for example, could be a little slower
Strongly agree on the tempi and dynamics as performed! Love the brilliance of tenor, soprano, and bass timbres, and then that glorious, rich contralto. Very exciting!
I cannot get enough of this inspiring performance! As I read my brothers comment below, my heart is broken for him and yet I hear his faith and I can hear the love of Jesus come from his heart. I pray that he is experiencing the joy of the Lord and the love of our Father as we enter this holiday season. What a blessing that our Lord inspires composers and artists to express their faith in such a way as this and gives us a small window into heaven! What music will be there!! Thank you for this amazing conductor who shows his love of his work and the incredible soloists and chorus! It was sheer joy!!!
Am sending hugs and prayers to your side lovely one❣❤🥰
Perhaps the most magnificent comment I have ever read - having read thousands. I served with my 97 year old father on the Midway today encouraging visitors who cared to stop to Talk with a WWII Veteran Today that the Lord has this whole apparently crazy mess - and, yes, He has it with crazy Joy, nearly unspeakable except as in your father's case, with severe mercy and joy. Merry Christmas. Shalu Shalom, Yerushalaim. Can't wait to meet him with Him!
Peachy thank you for your beautiful word. What a wonderful Father you had and really, you still have him.
This was part of my Dad's Christmas as well, He would be 98 this year. God bless us all. Praise our God Almighty.
Wish I could give 7 stars to your post. May you find God's grace in your trial.

Praise His name sister - the Logos was made flesh. His mercy never ends
Love you! A wonderful testimony! 🙂
Beautiful.
Who has been his counselor, instructing him?“

Thank you William!
Yes, thanks!
Many thanks William -exceptional performance indeed.
Laughable drivel.
You're trying too hard to sound clever.
Get a grip of reality.
huh
One of the best performances. The Messiah is such a monumental work that it can end up sounding a bit ponderous. This one is lively!
I'm with you JG.
@@janwoodward7360 hi may i ask if you know ,how many jews were there with you both coral and orchestra.thanks
Haim, I have absolutely no idea. Never asked any other musician or singer about their religious affiliation. I myself am an atheist who sings this music because it is beautiful. A wonderful performance! You Tube doesn't share the info, but the director is Vaclav Lucs, and that fabulous alto is Delphine Galou. The group is Collegium 1704, in Prague. No info on where this was performed. They have a Bach B minor mass, too!
+Mary Shaw Mozart's beloved city still makes great music.
John Inman ;-)
They sing beautiful English. It's usually very easy to pick a non-English choir singing Handel and they do it brilliantly. I'm very impressed.
Sorry but the alto singer sounded awful. The rest were ok.
I loved the alto
This rendition of the Messiah is the best one I've ever heard. I missed it when it was no where to be found. So gad it's back available. I love the excellence of the director and the performers and can feel the anointing of God come through them. I believe Handel's music originated in heaven
Love the originated in heaven, It is so sublime
Well said! I agree completely.
Same here (replace 63 with 40, LOL)!
The renditions of the "Hallelujah Chorus" and "The Trumpet Shall Sound" were so uplifting!
Todd -
Indeed this is fantastic interpretation and rendition of "The Messiah"... ethereal..
I have seen and heard the Messiah sung by choirs of 200 or more, with 50 orchestral instruments, and NONE OF THEM come close to the beauty of this performance. GREAT!
I know right??
It really is special.
I agree.
Magnificent !!! Sure wish we could see them in person. This is such gorgeous music.
Bryan
Yes, this is the best one in my opinion.

The people never heard anything like this when it was first played. "What is this?" "What do my ears hear?" "What do I listen to?" It is a story, an experience, a triumph, an ecstasy, a supreme uplifting, a superlative bonding and attainment of human spirit. Thank you Mr. Handel.

If Handel was alive to witness such an excellent and exceptional performance of his work, he would have been moved emotionally. The tempo stands out that's for sure. But is it better? No. Now that we've established that the chorus and soloists are capable of speed vocalizing, maybe they can express the meaning of the text with some heart and soul. Instead of just singing words and notes. Soulless.
And the joy on his face as he performs it is so wonderful!
Apart from this version simply being alive!!! (it is gloriously vibrant,) I love the fact the soloists are dressed similarly to the orchestra, not as grand entities, but all beautifully recounting each prophecy and scripture such that the glory go to the One who indeed deserves all glory!

Walter T “Out of the strong came forth sweetness”
Samson’s riddle in the Book of Judges is a much weightier metaphysical concept than commentators give it credit for.
Since most commentators are de facto atheists this has not occurred and the story remains on its literal level among people who admire the strength of lions and believe in the survival of the fittest, and have no idea of the real nature of God’s promise to Abraham if he conforms to this purpose and these laws
The same applies to the Gospel: the level of allegory, and the truth to which the allegory belongs
@@johnlawrence2757 I think you are right, that He didn't said that. Because:
(1) At the time of His speaches, she wasn't up to the Holy standard to come at the stage, as He pointed at His Students calling them Mothers, Brothers, and Sisters.
Matthew 12:46-50
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Nevertheless,
Luke 4:8 "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'"
(2) Matthew 11:21
"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
(3) Exodus 20:8-11
8 “Remember to ·keep the Sabbath holy [consecrate/sanctify the Sabbath].
9 Work and get everything done during six days each week,
10 but the seventh day is a ·day of rest to honor [Sabbath to] the Lord your God.
@@johnlawrence2757 Surely not metaphor is the key, but:

I can't get enough of this version. Already heard many times. I love how even their faces interpret The Messiah !!
I believe there bekuvers there.
Thank You re Czech Choir, I thought Eastern European, They are Fantastic....I like The Small Choir of All Star Voices
Utterly celestial. I'll listen to this conversation between these youthful inquiring performers and Our Lord. Handel would tear up with joy. Amen
Amazing that in 30 days an amazing man made this entire oratorio. He was given this by the Lord for sure.
23 days not 30
Not at all, he used to write as quick as many other composers, and he also used to copy and paste form his other previous works, not connected to any religious aim.
@@postfactumlauda What is your point?
I need more of this in my life.

Any idea where this took place and who the choir, soloists, are?
Exactly. This is the best rendition ever, feels like 1742 all-over
This just goes to show that you do not always need a 500 member choir to present a magnificent performance.
Very exciting!

i have seen/heard and seen this many times, but never been moved to tears before this stunningly beautiful one. i watch it now every Christmas
The Hope of God in Jesus Christ, put to beautiful music and singing. Beyond a composition of man, God's Words from the Bible. Thank you!
we must at all times serve the risen King.
Amén ..
This is a masterpiece
Amen. Jesus is Lord
