To answer why, I feel that it flattens a lot of characters, Ramuda especially, while revealing plot points in the anime that didn't happen until later in the main storyline. Also, & this isn't a knock against the production team, but most of them came to this show from magical girl shows, & I wasn't a fan of the visual magical girl influences
