#thehuntingpublic #longbird
Definitely not the shells. I’ve been using long beard xr for a long time and have never had that issue. Congratulations on the bird and sticking with it.
I came here to say this lol. My benelli eats them and loves it
it was a well known issue with longbeard xr. there was many people that had trouble with those shells not going off. however this was def a gun issue
I was having the same thing happen in my remington 870 with the Winchester super x 2 separate seasons so I traded I'm my 870 for a mossberg 535 and been shooting the xr 3 1/2 inch shells never and issue with them
Been using long beard xr for a decade, never had a problem, it's the gun.
That’s for sure
I too have had nothing but good luck with XR's. They''ve been great turkey shells for me.
Haven't watched the video yet, but just had 2-3" Winchester long beard xr not go off.. hopefully it's not common lol
I haven't ever had a problem with XRs run them in 5 guns counting my kids. Did have a 20ga 2 3/4" 7 1/2 win cheapo take 3 trys this year. Didn't look at primer 1st time. 2nd time it looked like good hit. 3rd went off. Don't know if it wasn't seated right or hard primer.
Yessir
Zach calling the longbeard xr's junk crushed so many souls 😂🤣
I heard him say the same. Never had a misfire in my Mossberg in eight years of using them, including patterning.
@@skinl19 I've killed 2 in VA this year with them, but missed one in Ohio this morning unfortunately, just a rushed shot..the pattern in the tree I hit was solid at 35 yards though 😂 hopefully tomorrow l will get him
😂 ive patterned my XR loads at 50 yds out of my Remington 887 nitro mag....awesome pattern. Ive taken 3 long beards with that load. Last year was 40 yd shot....dropped him. Clean that firing pin!! Lol
Dumbest thing I’ve heard him say and he says a lot of dumb stuff lol
Hahaha your soo right, look at the people crying already 🤣😭😂
Seems like that firing pin is sticking. Maybe give that thing a good thorough cleaning. Lol. Great stuff guys
my thoughts also
Definitely
I had same issues with a 308 tc venture so I just sold it after it done it on a big buck. So I went and purchased a 6.5 creedmore lol.
Those shells may have expired while waiting on him to shoot the turkey. I was starting to think he was trying to let the beard get little longer before he shot.
haha!
Damn mossberg... Ol remington 870 never miss fires
Yeah buddy.
Amen
I saved up for like two years to get a Remington 870 and got one right before they got sued still haven’t killed a turkey yet though 🤞
I have a mossberg 835 that hasnt let me down just yet mossberg 835 and xrs 😎
Amen, Caleb........Mossberg. Why we pay extra for quality.👍
Been shooting longbeard xr's for years and never had a misfire. Might b the gun
I’ve never had a problem with them either until last week when I killed my bird, shell got compressed in my gun too, I was able to get it out and dropped the bird luckily!
I've had that same thing happen with steel shot duck hunting but that usually happens when when you short stroke your shotgun. Thats if your running a pump action
I've not missed a turkey in years. This year long beards let me down and jammed. Never had a jam in 15 years I ve had alot of buddies miss and miss fire this year.
Mossberg....
Idk these guys know what there doin
Boys I believe it time for a new shotgun !! Last year actually 😂😂😂😂
I had the same problem with my mossberg. It was a bunch of build up and corrosion in the bolt lock. When the action is closed that block should be up. If you take it apart. You should be able to push it down into the bolt sub assembly and it should pop right back up. If it does not, it needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Congratulations on an awesome hunt!
I would agree that, that is the problem.
Two heartattacks in you recycled the shell.... you accomplish a reload and still got a shot! That’s amazing!!!!!!!! You will never ever forget this hunt!!!!!
All I have for the last 6 or 7 years is Longbeard XR and never had a miss fire.
That’s what I shoot it’s a great load just shot my first turkey on Sunday with it
it’s the gun guys. one misfire could be a bad shell, multiple misfires and 99.99% confidence it’s the gun. probably gunked up firing pin or lockup lug. also keep in mind that it might have worked with other loads but some loads have harder primers than others. in any case this gun needs to be looked at in detail and thoroughly cleaned.
Ah, the ol' Mossberg 500 strikes again. They are infamous for not wanting to fully seat the chamber, light strikes, etc. It's not the shells. There are several reasons I won't own one, and this is in the top 3.
I’ve had the same box of long beard XR since 2015, never had the issue you’ve experienced. Seemed like it was the gun not being fully into battery.
I like your videos and enthusiasm. I am an avid turkey hunter, and have been using Winchester Long Beard shot shells for years. Never have I had a misfire, or delayed fire. I use the 3” #5’s, 12 gauge Remington 870, with the Carlson Long Beard choke. Took one bird last year at 57 yards, and he dropped in his tracks; actually rolled over backwards into a ditch. Have taken a bird at 62 yards with the Long Beards…awesome shells. Oh yeah, harvested two other gobblers last year with my Stevens Model 301 in .410, Apex TSS, 39 and 37 yards. Virginia hunter.
My 9 year old just got his first turkey the other day, he watches all your videos!!! Thanks for the great content.
We’ve fired a lot of Longbeard XR’s through our guns and never had a misfire. My 870 loves the 3” with #5 shot.
That gun and that brand of shell would never see the woods again with me. 😂
I have had 1 miss fire last year and my nephew had 1 this year with Long Beard XRs. We have been shooting for the past 4 seasons. Now moving on to something else. Great Videos guys. I love the knowledge that you guys share on each video.
Time to do a very detailed cleaning of your shotgun I have never had my mossberg miss fire and I have dry fired for years nice Bird.
It's a Mossberg so....... and I've been shooting Winchester LB XR since they came out with zero misfires. Using Remington 870, 11-87 and 1100. Still an awesome experience. Got me wanting to climb hills again and give these flat land birds a break lol.
Congrats, talk about last minute! In over twenty years I have never had a misfire with Winchester XR's and or their predecessor. Keep up the good work gentlemen.
Can't beat the XRs. We misjudged one in a field 2 years back buddy killed him at 67 yards...what impressed me was it never even flinched...head was Swiss cheesed
Xr long beards debuted like 8 or 9 years ago
@@chubbs3119
Yea from what I saw. Late 2012 or early 13. So probably not on the shelves everywhere till 14. Now the ol XX. They've been around a long time.
@@chubbs3119 your right, I should have specified, it was the predecessor to the XR'S.
The OG Extended Ranges were some great shells. Hate they discontinued them.
Zachs calling has improved tremendously! Way to hunt em down
Congratulations. Good calling.I will say I've never seem a hunt like this one. This hunt should make the #1 hunt.
very realistic hen vocals. entertaining hunt. kept realizing I was holding my breath for you guys! good job. congratulations.
I've been patiently waiting for this one!! Awesome
Hard earned turkey and great video. Excellent calling and patience.
Apt tune for the shot moment. Precisely why I roll my own!!! And keep the ol firing pin clean! Way to stay at it! 💜
I had the same gun and had the same problem with Remington shell. sold it went to the 870 and never looked back
I’ve shot long beard xrs ever since I started turkeys hunting never had a problem with them, it could be the gun just needs a good clean but awesome hunt!! And banger video!!
LOL! I’m glad you guys didn’t edit the good stuff out! I’ve goofed up so many times I wish I had a gag reel. Things don’t always go right in the woods......but then a 3 minutes to spare full court Hail Mary got it done. Don’t feel bad at all. All of us dedicated to hunting and fishing have a hard time sometimes. Let talk about wind knots in braided line! 🤬Good job guys! Another great episode.
If it was the longbeard XR shells that happened on it is definitely the guns problem. I have killed dozens with em. Stocked up on them about 6 years ago and never had a misfire outta my SBE2
Great job guys ,,never give up till time runs out...keep up.the great work an clean his gun ....
WAY TO GO Hayden !! So cool to get one after that kind of heart break
Virginia is for lovers and I Love turkey hunting. Think I would clean that gun a little more detailed or change the firing pin
love the content boys, great shot by the way!
There's proof again to just stick with it. Never know sometimes miracles do happen.Good job Fellas!
Tough hunting with all that under growth. Tight windows for a shot. Congrats guys.
Wow! That's an epic hunt gentleman. Awesome job.
Zach man big fan i swear you get better every year i mean obviously thats the goal bht good job boys
Talk about the Highs and lows of Turkey hunting. Way to hang in there.
Gotta love the Virginia mountains
Had the same thing happen with a mossberg 835. Took to a gunsmith and got a new firing pin. Worked fine for awhile. Finally just ordered a complete new bolt. Ran like a top for years now. A gun is a machine.....eventually you have to do a little maintenance. Especially an old shotgun that does double duty as a duck gun.
Dude, I feel your pain. I had two long beards at 25 yards and fired twice."Click" both times. They putted loudly and left. It turned out that my firing pin was all gummed up!!!
At Warb’s wedding is Ted going to be the ring bearer and Zach going to be the flower girl? 😂 j/k Congrats and good luck with the season!
I love turkey hunting, How intense was that times 3!!💘 the video
Buddy was making me nervous moving and bringing up the gun like that lol. Ballsy
Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, full count.....BAM!! Well done!
Seriously made my opening mourning look good. I might of got one if Zack was doing everything but pulling the trigger
Tough hunt fellas you earned that one, way to stay at it....
Your hunts this year are the best yet. The season goes by too quick! Just about done here in MS.
Hell yea! Nice shot! Good calling!
this un' was fun and frustrating all at the same time. I laughed and cringed. haha! glad you guys got one on the ground. congrats.
Nail biter! Congrats fellas!
As many others in the comments have stated, I believe this to be a mossberg quality issue. Ive got an 835 that has done this to me on 3 occasions where I go to pull the trigger on an animal and it does fire. Every time I rerack it I have to slam the action to ensure it closes. And before anyone says clean the gun, the action is immaculate and this has been an issue since day one. On the bright side it has made for 2 of my best hunting stories where the gun was racked with a deer at 15 yards the first time and trading guns with my buddy while sitting against a tree with a turkey at 10 yards another time.
yer guys' stuff is good regardless! thanks!
Great video and hilarious comments 🤣🤣🤣
LOL, you guys are killing me with those set-ups. Get out of that darn laurel so you can shoot more than 10 yards. Exciting hunt thought.
That's been my experience with pumps you gotta keep them oiled and rackem in there hard. They like it rough ! Hunting with pumps you tend to rack them softer because they make too much noise when you do so they don't always work when you soft rack them. thus is why I hunt with a semi-auto. I never have that problem.
Great hunts. Tomorrow morning is opening morning for me!
Make sure u seat your first shell hard enough. I had the same thing happen to my deer rifle one year. Slid the shell in slowly then had a nice buck come by that morning and 'click'. Hammered in another shell and got him but from then on I always make sure I seat that first shell solid.
Longbeard XR w their notorious hard primers... for the WIN!
Sure would like to the see the primers on those shells that didn’t go off,I do believe it was operator error
I think so
Never heard the click at all and that camera picks up everything
@@lesleyboeder1798
Watch it again. KUCHUNK I thought he had an empty chamber
if i’m not wrong i think they showed the shells on there instagram and they had hit marks on the primers
@@gamingfreakbrackin509 I went back through the hunting public Instagram page and did see any shells from that hunt just 2 pictures of Hayden holding the gobbler
My mossberg did the same thing years ago drove me crazy ended up getting a browning bps never had a issue since definitely not the shells
Moss berg you have to rack it solid in or it will not fire. I’ve noticed a lot of the hunting racking a shell in the hunt but behind a marine i am locked and loaded from the truck.
A little advice, try puring when your scratching the leaves a content hen purrs when she feeds.
I'm sure you will get all kinds of grief about the long beards but it's not the shells. They may use a harder primer but it may be time for a rebuild on your firing pin. But enough about that, congrats on a very well earned bird, you definitely had to work for that one with the clock ticking. That is some beautiful country right down there. As always be safe and stay healthy my friend.
I have an answer for the title. Until you hit your limit for every man. I’m loving these Virginia videos and I can’t wait till you come to maine. Keep up the good work
I have emptied my gun on a turkey more times than I care to admit lol
@@stinkbaitdawelder2964 I’m sure I will do the same at some point in my life. I have only been allowed to shoot turkeys for a few years no shame what so ever man
Congrats. I've had a gun that needed to have the shells racked pretty firmly also.
That was really nice of him to mention a lingbeard
It's funny watching this now because I missed a chance on a tom that same season at 20 yards when i had a struck primer but misfire with those long beard shells on a gun that I've never had a problem with before.
Moral of the story is have your newbies shoot their gun for you before heading out🚀👌
He said he did shoot it and it fired!
@@garrettstraffon608 he also said he had problems last year
He’s also not a newbie... Hayden has worked for THP for a couple years.
@@TheEzwin286 Guys a newb. Tags on face mask and Zach having to tell him what do do like he's a child.
Winchester makes a long beard Turkey pump with fiber optic sights pistol grip and in
camo maybe best purchase a Turkey guy can make
Virginia is for turkey lovers 🦃
Congrats man after all of that stuff going on. GEEEE
Same thing happened to me with my mossberg. They are bad about it. Only takes a little grime around the firing pin to cause a mis fire. Now I spray cleaner in the action every few trips with rem oil after. Hasn't happen again since
Jsyk, y'all have the best hunting show all around, thought u might wanna know that
I had the exact same thing happen to me Monday a week ago on our opener here in Maryland
That’s a mossberg for you right there!
Get ya a good rem. 870 those always shoots great.
You may have a shell issue, but you need to clean up the firing pin, you can take it out or just soak the whole bolt in solvent, it may have some gunk in it causing light strikes!
If you have spent enough time hunting, then you've experienced similar situations. Way to work your way thru it all, including the big one "EMOTIONS"!!!
That business with the second call in and the gun was intense.
Cracks me up people comment great video and it's a 39 minute video that's been out for 20 minutes🤣🤯👌
Have you ever seen a bad THP video though?
No bad thp video son
I literally had the same thing happen to me this morning! I was shooting browning BXD #5s.
8:45 Going to return that face mask after the season? Still has the plastic hanger on it. haha
Y’all need to come back and deer hunt in Virginia!
I'm not sure how I did this, but this morning I killed a nice Tom with my crappy Mossberg 835 and one of those "junk Longbeard XR's shells" at almost 60 yards? I guess it might be because I practice proper gun maintenance and test pattern my gun before each season.
Another banger
I had that same thing happen to me 2 years ago. 3 times I pulled the trigger and dented a primer without it firing. So frustrating
You worked for that Tom and It`s a nice one .
And that was cool I thought u were going to pull the trigger at the jack that was on the road
probably a gummed up dirty firing pin in the bolt. I have never had a problem with Long Beards, i shoot 3" and 3.5"
Time for a ole 870!😜👊
Yup, cant beat em. I have a 40 year old wingmaster that still works flawlessly
The only thing a Mossberg is good for is using it as a tomato 🍅 stake!😆
Frigging awesome
Congratulations .
What a stressful time for me .
LOL ......
What a crazy hunt . Please have the gun looked at .
They gobble one time here in Kanawha County WV . Then nothing. Season comes in to late every season here.
Bruh, that was really funny... and great come back. Way to stick too it...
long beards are great shells, looks like the gun has some problems...
Same thing happened to me in the 2020 season. The reason... didn't clean my gun prior to the season. My firing pin was dry couldn't move well due to no oil and dirty.
