  • There are plenty of foods that can improve the health of your thyroid but few are better than chia seeds.
Chia seeds are filled with incredible ingredients in the form of healthy fat,, plant-based protein, nutrients, and other bioactive compounds.
When you combine this with the fact that they are easy to consume and last a long time on your shelf, they are a powerhouse food for thyroid patients.
Here are several reasons why I think thyroid patients should seriously consider eating chia seeds each day:
#1. Help control your appetite and support a healthy weight.
Because chia seeds expand when introduced to water, they can help you feel full longer. This makes chia seeds a great food if you are trying to lose weight.
#2. Great source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Chia seeds contain a massive amount of omega 3 fatty acids, even more than fish. The key here is that the omega 3 fatty acids found in chia seeds are shorter chain compared to the longer chain DHA and EPA found in fish (so both are still necessary).
#3. They are loaded with protein.
For a plant, they contain a modest amount of protein per serving. You won't be able to get your daily protein intake from chia seeds alone, but they can spruce up the protein content of other foods and dishes.
#4. Highly nutritious and packed with vitamins and minerals.
Compared to other foods, chia seeds boast an incredible nutrient profile that includes vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, proteins, and isoflavones.
#5. Easy to incorporate into your diet.
See a quick and easy recipe below!
#6. Help Keep Your Cholesterol Level Normal.
Several studies have shown that eating chia seeds may promote healthy cholesterol levels: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37456...
My favorite way to eat chia seeds is by putting them in my morning smoothie but you can also easily make a chia bowl.
Here's a quick and simple chia bowl recipe:
    3 tablespoons of chia seeds
    ¾ cup of non-dairy milk
1 teaspoon of honey (or your preferred sweetener)

There is another awesome recipe for chia seeds - vegan caviar!
Add 4 times more water for a part of chia seeds, 2 times of each - soya sause, flex seeds oil, and powdered nori sea weeds. Mix it together, leave to allow flex seeds to absorb the liquids and voilà!
I have it almost every morning on my gluten and lactose free crackers with fresh cucumbers. Love it!

Well you have one doctor saying one thing and another (Sally Norton) saying something else. So no wonder no one knows WTF to eat. It's beyond annoying. I'm 57 with Hashimotos. Been on thyroid medication for over 30 years. I'm so tired of reading and researching and thinking of what I can or can't eat. Did an allergy test and more food showed up to not eat. I also had kidney stones so high oxalate foods aren't recommended. Why are you recommending this food for the thyroid?

Please always blend them before eating or soaking.
If you don’t, you won’t crack the cell wall that releases the amazing omega 3 oil.

You’re so right. I began to lose weight. Over about 2 years I lost approximately 20 pounds to 107. I’m beginning to gain some back since I’m on thyroid medication. I have Hashimoto’s

correct, but you don't need to use the "fat" word as a bad reference, my thyroid issues actually contribute to my Fat ASS! I eat Literally small healthy meals and exercise but still not down to my normal weight, so stop acting Like big people are all deserving of it or lazy!

I have always heard that one should always soak chia seeds before eating them because you don't want them swelling up inside you. I also wonder if soaking them has any effect on their bio-availability.

Chia seeds is awful for your thyroid! I can tell a long story, but to keep it short just be aware how you feel after consuming Chia. Please do a better research.

Chia seeds are very high in oxalates and also bad for the gut. I’m totally in disagreement with you on this one. Bad bad news for the thyroid.

I just wrote a similar post!! It's absolutely horrific for thyroid health. I suggested he would read Sally K Norton's book.
