Hi. I’m a guy 25 year old. I lost my hair as 21 year old due to underactive thyroid. I have taken eltroxin my medication properly for almost 3 years now and my t3 and T4 is normal levels again my doctor told me. However my lost hair hasn’t come back I only see very small hair on my head in the areas that lost hair. Is this gonna take a longtime?
I am dealing with hair lost. My hair fell out a couple of years ago . Due to thyroid issues and Hashimoto. . I don’t take any medication . . It’s mainly in my nape area . 😩 I will try your hair supplements hopefully this will help . It has literally been broken/ bald in that area for almost 6 years
Yes, I am. After my thyroidectomy I started my Levothyroxine 100 mcg, but after 2 months of taking it I started to feel extremely tired. So my Dr. Changed my med to 137 mcg and now I feel great, I have energy. I workout everyday, but I have extreme hair loss now. I have been taking vitamin D 50000uni for the past 4 weeks. I eat healthy balanced meals, take Iron supplements, Omega 3. I have never seen this much hair falling before, even when I was taking methimazole. What can I do???? Please I need help!!!!
Man…I always knew my Family Doctor was pretty much useless, the appointments are never more than 5 minutes tops, he barely makes eye contact, rushing you in and out. You have to tell him what you want, he doesn’t offer solutions, except basic basic stuff. Doesn’t actually care, just wants you in and out. This channel has helped me understand my health and what my body needs a THOUSAND percent more than my doctor. Thank you for explaining so much for us. ❤
The hair on my head began shedding big time after a very stressful period I went through. So, I myself researched the net and opted to experiment with a hair oil called litttleextra coocoonion & a comb made of neem wood. The results truly made a difference. At present, I have lengthy, thick, black hair that has grown down to my waist and cut off on three occasions since I started. Simple & effective. Also, just as good is massaging your scalp - it stimulates the growth. You only have to do this weekly. Before long, you will see new hair starting to grow.
I am having massive hair loss and was diagnosed with thyroid issues one year ago. I keep telling my doctor but she says "oh, you have a lot of hair it's ok" she never said it could be my thyroid. Thank you so much for this information, now I'm not so stressed out thinking it's something else. 10 or so years ago I battled breast cancer and won 🎉 bur I remember there was a lot of hair loss before my BC diagnosis. So I kept thinking oh no, it's back but she said no that I'm good. I love my Doctor she's a good listener and always discusses what she suggest as treatment for my health issues but with this hair loss she seems very indifferent. Truly I appreciate your program.
I am 44, diagnosed a year ago, and i have lost half of the hair volume i had. My long hair is gone, it has been cut above my shoulder, and my hair just keeps falling and falling. Thyroid problems are underestimated by all doctors, thank you ever so much Dr. Childs for all your videos! We are all very thankful 🙏
The same thing happened to me. I had waist-length thick hair; then around MARCH 2023, one morning, my hair was all over the place. Hair has continued to fall out since then ...going on seven months.
I highly suggest you have a hair test done for minerals. Your zinc, selenium, copper, magnesium, manganese might be off. Also, a micronutrients blood test could help pin point the reason. SpectraCell Labs (Texas) or Vibrant America (California).
Doctors don’t take serious I cried 100000 times because of my excessive hair fall and no de helped me to solve this issue dermatologists said I should get done prp ;(
Major hair loss. Clumps Of hair in the shower. It’s very shocking! I cry when I wash my hair. The constant itching with NO flaking is a mystery! Even after I wash my hair my scalp itches. I feel like six more months I will have no hair left with this shedding. Getting blood work next week. However, my doctor NEVER sits with me and discusses the blood work. Great video!
I have the same issues. itching and hair fall. my scalp has been on fire for 5 years now. I was recently diagnosed with hyper and graves. has your itching and hair fall stopped?
@@aditinair4287you must have something alive in your scalp feeding off your skin. You need to kill it. Try onion juice, and cloves water in a spray bottle just to the scalp and deep conditioning after. You need to throw out your pillows and buy new pillows, and boil your sheets. If your sneezing a lot you’ll need a new doona, as the dead mites you can’t really wash them out, you can try. Use essential oils like tea tree oil in your washing machine but not around pets. If you have a pet in your bed you’ll need to have it washed. And get rid of any stuffed toys. You definitely got something alive on your scalp.
Use the avenue baby shampoo maybe your scalp have allergies with other shampoo, put filter on your shower water to avoid from chemicals in water. Even rinse your scalp with bottle water if you don’t have shower filters. Drink filtered water , avoid sugars food and drink in any cost, have some water fast and keto diet. Stay away from stress. It all can help you with your hair loss .
i was able to stop my hair from falling and make it stronger by doing these things: 1- i started eating more foods with protein and vitamins like lentils, avocadoes, berries, chia seeds, nuts, beans, plain greek yogurt, spinach, soy bean, etc. 2- i did yoga or exercise every day for 15 minutes to improve the flow of blood in my body. 3- i ate less unhealthy junk food. 4- i drank 6-7 glasses of water every day. 5- i stopped using my old hair products and switched to LittleExtra's coconion natural anti hair fall kit. 6- i applied oil to my hair only in the evening because during the day it attracts dust and pollution. 7- i stopped using plastic combs and started using neem combs. by taking care of my habits and using the right products, i was able to solve my hair problems.
Hoshimoto, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, psoriasis, alopecia. Currently taking spermidine for hair growth and weight loss. Definitely seeing hair growth in areas where there has not been growth in years and faster growth where there is already hair. It's only been about 2 months. Fingers crossed!
Palpitations, weight loss (extreme) , eye bulging coz i have TEDs, insomia (until now i still cant have a decent sleep just around 2-4hrs sleep a day), fatigue, mood swings, difficulty of breathing and lack of libido :(

I am 26 yrs old. For the last 25 years of my life i am well. I am carefree and full of life. I dont know what triggers this problem. I feel very empty looking at myself now. I dont know why i become the always tired and feeling sick person that i am now. If you feel something is wrong please consult a doctor.
I had my thryoid removed in 2018 due to cancer. I have been trying all this time to save my hair and nothing is working. My dad showed me your video and I am working with the doctor to check of all these things. Thank you so much for your videos
I had thyroid cancer treated with surgical removal and RAI about 13 years ago. I had horrible hair loss after starting on synthroid-i had to change doctors to be able to try Armour and ended up on a combination of T4 and Armour. I did a lot of research on hairloss in thyroid patients and found that taking GLA/evening primrose oil daily really helped!! I hope this helps someone out there who is struggling with this real problem!!
@@BLFulleit’s a supplement you can take daily-look at a good supplement store -I take 1300 mg/day and it makes a huge difference! It’s called Gamma Lenolenic Acid/EPO/Evening Primrose Oil
Thank you for addressing hair loss in women with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Yes. I’ve had ongoing hair loss for 23 years. I also have autoimmune disease. Had to retire at 62 because I had some small TIAs, memory issues, fibromyalgia…so very bad pain episodes. My youngest daughter also has had hypothyroidism and is in her 40s which is how old I was when I began having arthritis in my feet and toes. We both began having hypothyroid symptoms in our teens.
Hair loss was my mother’s problem and now it’s mine. I’m 69 and I have been losing my hair for years. It used to be thick and full, but now only the back has stayed that way. The front and top is thin, thinning, thinner.
I am 44 years old, and my hair has been getting thinner and thinner, especially on top. I do have thyroid problems. Ive always had gorgeous hair, long and curly. I hate that my hair is so thin! This video is a huge help, and I will be trying everything youve recommended. I will let you know how it goes!
Dr. Childs, thank you so very much for taking the time to post these helpful & informative videos. I feel like you're the only one who cares and understands our unique issues that everyone else, including our own doctors, think we're just whining about or exagerrating. Please keep them coming.
I refuse to go to a doctor who thinks I am just whining or who ignores what I am saying. Period. If you can get a medical doctor in Functional Medicine, they do understand and will try a more wholistic approach. Never settle for less! I had to look far for an MD who was open to my preference of healing with organics. I live in the boonies and have to drive 40 minutes to a good Doc, but it's worth the drive. I always let my MD doctor know upfront I'm there for tests and diagnosis, but I will ALWAYS try natural healing first, and if that doesn't work, then we try their way. But I come prepared with knowledge, bring all my supplements, and we have a thorough discussion. They are out there... you just have to look.
Hair loss. I take 75mcg of synthroid since 2006 when I had my right lobe removed. My TSH levels and t3 and t4 are within range and free t3 and t4 also. We have tried 85mcg witch made my hands tremor and 50 mcg I really felt worse on. I’m miserable in high temps and cold. I can walk outside in 97 degrees and get goose bumps. Winter I just want to stay covered up in a blanket. Heart rate is high. Blood pressure erratic. No energy. Also I was left with a parralized vocal cord in the vertical position from the surgery and therefore have half of a medium opening for breathing and swallowing. Breathing issues also. Thank you for this amazing site. All of us here would love an hour or longer with you. All endocrinologists are not created equal and internist only want to ck your blood work primarily the TSH levels and if they’re ok you’re ok!
I am hypothyroid, had mono in early 20’s, hair loss began at 17 when I went on the pill (which I am convinced is what there my entire body off kilter) back in ‘79/‘80, and now 7 years ago at 53 diagnosed with MS. After having kids hair loss was worse and didn’t come back and have worn a hairpiece since ‘99?. I’m sure I’m prob too old to have any positive changes towards hair growth but recently learning that knowledge is power and I wish that all this info was available to be back then.
I started taking zinc a year ago and my hair started growing like crazy! I started taking 50 mg a day for my skin. Good info! My hair WAS falling out and I had no idea why!
@dzlove My hair was falling out. I didnt know why. I started taking zinc for another issue and my hair started growing like crazy! I hope it works for you!
Hi! I started taking zinc fir a skin problem I'm having, I'd no idea it would help with my thyroid problems. I take just 100 mg per day. That was pure luck on my part!
Yes, my severe hair loss and scalp psoriasis (lost about half of it in the past three years) is finally what led me to go to a dermatologist, who ran blood tests, which resulted in a Hashimotos diagnosis. Thank you for this video!! I had no idea that too Biotin could have an opposite reaction. Was always told that it's the holy grail for hair.
OMG, exactly same thing happened to me, though I already knew I have Hashimostos, and have been taking thyroid medictaion for past 8 years or so. But I never took my thyroid medication seriously and many a times I skipped it, and that lead to psorasis and heavy thinning of my hair. However, since I have adjusted my does now and have been taking my medicine religiously, I have seen immense difference in just 2 months. I'm really happy now, hair fall has almost just stopped. The only take away is that, taking the right dosage (trial and error, I would say), and sticking to it, and taking it timely and not eating anything for 1 hour after the medicine (for it to get absorbed without interruptions).
@@deedee2218 I can't remember the details of my blood tests. My dermatologist sent me to my regular doctor, who ran more blood tests, and then she diagnosed me. I believe it had something to do with elevated thyroid antibodies.
I’m on two different medications and do have hair loss. I talked to my doctor about it but he doesn’t really seem to be concerned about it. I had thyroid cancer and had to have it removed. Im one of the 4% of patients that has to be on two medications. I’m glad I came across your channel. I feel I’m a lot more informed on what to ask him on my next visit in September.
Yes I struggle on and off with hair loss then it grows back but my hair is still thin. I have hypothyroidism. It's very difficult to deal with so I'm very glad I came across your video as doctors don't get it most of the time. They just test to see if you're within the spectrum and it doesn't work that way. Thank you for explaining these things.
MEDICATION CAUSED MY HAIR LOSS. I'm a 70 yo female with Hashimotos and Hypothyroidism. (My dad and brother had Graves Disease.) I was just diagnosed in April 2022. I started taking Euthyrox 50 mg. Starting feeling better immediately. Rolling along and contracted Covid in July. Got over that, rolling along again. Then in September my big chain pharmacy quit stocking Euthyrox, so they substituted Levothyroxin. OK, sounded good. Well within 2 weeks my hair started falling out and I had scabs on my scalp. I called the pharmacist and he told me that generally happened in the fall with the dry air and cold. I made another visit to my PCP and he diagnosed me with Alopecia, prescribed a steroid foam, and referred me to a dermatologist. I didnt go because i felt it was the Levothyroxin. I called another pharmacy and they didn't stock Euthyrox but would order it for me. The PCP agreed to prescribing it at the new pharmacy but he didn'tseem to think that was causing the hair loss. Lo and behold my hair was growing back immediately after starting back on the Euthyrox! And it looks great and I still feel great. After doing tons of research I also started drinking green tea with cloves, rosemary and cinnamon. I was already taking most of the supplements you suggested. I appreciate your videos soooo much! This has certainly been a learning experience. Sometimes we have to think with our instincts as well as our brain. Thank you!!!
@@brandonpetersen415 my hair grew back and is OK since i no longer take the levo. But I demand Euthyrox (not Levothyroxin). I quit the tea during the summer but started back again last fall. I also cut back on the supplements and the tea because now I have Afib. But the thyroid problems seem to be leveled out and I feel fine. Continue to experiment with all methods, just BE CAREFUL with the supplements. Every body is different. I hope you find the perfect balance! Good luck!
Wow..... For first time I hear something as a successful story... . Congratulations 🎉 Blessing to you..... Couod you please guide me how to use it? Can it be available in India?
I have never commented before....I am thankful for your videos. It's all so complex. You do a great job breaking things down. I am shocked how little many endocrinologist actually know about Hashimoto's. In addition, what endocrinologist know about Hashimoto's and Perimenopause. I was doing really well on Nature Thyroid until it was on back order. Then, I moved and changed doctors and I have been on 4 other medication he wanted to try and it really sent my thyroid hyper - I think the conversion was wrong! Anyway, I am now on Armour Thyroid...I have gone from 2 grains of Nature Thyroid to struggling with on again off again heart palpitations at 30 mg of Armour Thyroid. I don't understand why my dose has dropped significantly. My doctor had no explanation. I need a Dr. like you who truly understands the delicateness of my autoimmune disease. It can be so frustrating.
I am dealing with hair loss and it’s been extremely exhausting trying to figure out the underlying issue/issues….. most doctors really don’t care about going in-depth to trying to figure out what is going on. I did order a red light therapy cap and it arrives tomorrow afternoon, I’m praying this works especially with diet and supplements changes.
I’ve been having hair loss for about 6 months. I went to see my doctor and discovered I have subclinical hyperthyroidism with multiple nodules. I’m currently being monitored and investigated by my GP and an ENT which I will have a phone appointment with next week. This video helped piece things together quite well! I have had previous issues with low ferritin and anemia, which is likely contributing. I now have great questions to discuss with my specialist now, I have yet to see an endo but I’m sure that will be coming in the near future. Thank you for for posting this information.
How did you get on? I have been experiencing hair loss for coming up a year now. I am also just at the level of needing monitoring. In that time I have also gone into perimenopause. So finding out the cause of the hair loss has been a big problem. It seems like my hair is trying to grow but then new short growth falls out. Interested in how your journey is going.
I have hypothyroidism and am taking Levothyoxine. My hair has really gotten bad as far as hair loss goes. No one knew the reason why. I found out that I needed to increase the medication as my numbers were way too high. I'm hoping, after watching your video, that my hair will start growing back and stop falling out. Thank you so much for this video!!!
I started having hair loss about 2 years ago. Mainly the top back of my head.. I use to have healthy shiny white hair. My hair dresser mentioned I had lost about 1/3 of my hair. I do have an autoimmune disease and have dealt with other autoimmune problems. I saw a naturopathic dr and she ran some blood tests and said my thyroid was just a little low and she could PRESCRIBE a low dose of thyroid medicine. We would discuss my hormones next time. I also saw a dermatologist because my scalp was really itching she rx ketoconozle Shampoo. It had helped a little. My grey hair has become thin and Flightly. I try to use very little hair spray or styling gels because I am afraid it will increase my itching problem. I am 77 years old and would like to find a solution if possible. Barbara
Did you ever figure out what was causing the itching? I ask because my scalp has been on fire for 5 years now!!! I have hyper and graves disease. Diagnosed 4 months ago
I've was diagnosed with hashie. hypo thyroid15 years ago but my hair loss started about 20 years ago. I was diagnosed with low thyroid 25 years ago. Last July I had covid and last mo. my hair started falling out a lot more then it use to. I had to cut my long hair short because I was afraid that I would go bald. Thank you for the information.
This video is mind blowing. I have an under active thyroid and I was diagnosed when I was a kid. My mom has it and so does my older sister. My hair has always been relatively thin, but recently I’ve been struggling massively with hair loss and was trying everything and anything, but didn’t even think to consider my thyroid as a factor. Thank you so much for this video, I’m going to call my doctor immediately !!!
My hair was okay until recently when I changed to T4 from Tirosint. I was also fine when I was taking Dithyron which is a mix of T4 and T3 made in Greece. A doctor told me not to take t3 so I stopped. Crazy. I’m now going to go back to tirosint. I stopped taking it because of the sugar content because I’m gaining weight and have a big problem losing it. Many years ago before diagnosed with myxedema I lost most of my hair and a Swiss doctor advised half an avocado a day as it stimulates hair growth. It worked.
I have PCOS and have had thyroid tests suggesting hypothyroidism in the past. I have been making serious lifestyle changes for the past 4 months, and my hair loss has vastly improved. Thank you for the informative video! I will definitely be taking these tips into consideration!
The doctor told me 3 months ago that I have Hypothyroidism. I was put on 50 mcg of Levothyroxine .Hopefully we'll get this figured out soon. My hands didn't start shaking until I was put on this med. Unfortunately, my daughter was told last week that she has hypothyroidism. She was put on the same med, only half the dose. Now we can watch your talks together sometimes.
Thanks a lot doctor for your video. I also have hair loss. I take blood tests every year but my doctor keeps on telling me my thyroid is not yet burnt out so I can't take thyroid medication but thyroid symptoms like hair loss, sore throat, loss of eyebrows, constipation, skin issues are increasing. Can anyone suggest a good thyroid specialist for me please.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a couple years ago. I didn't take my medication for over a year. Then this year I started taking the 25 mcg of levothyroxine. It wasn't enough to bring down my TSH levels. Doctor upped me to 50 mcg and my TSH dropped but around that time is when I started noticing my hair thinning and falling off easily.
castor oil, rosemary essential oil and rosemary water are helping me. i also see improvements after water fasting for few days. i am grateful for this journey because when i'm done i'll have better hair and i'll also appreciate my hair more.
I lost half of of my hair in a matter of 3 months last year and it continues to fall out like crazy every time I shower or brush my hair. At the same time, I started getting very heavy and painful menstrual cycles to the point of hospital visits, pain killers were needed, adult diapers were needed I was hemorrhaging for a month. I hated to but ended up going on birth control to slow the bleeding since nothing else was working. In my 40s and have always had nearly perfect health…until now. 😢😢
I was diagnosed with hashimoto thyroiditis when I was three years old. With the medicine my hair grew back thick and long. Then in college it started thinning again. All my blood work was in range so the doctor said I was fine. I heard about Biotin and started taking it. I'm almost 40 now and my hair started thinning again a few years ago so I started taking a higher dose of biotin and using a biotin shampoo. After watching this, I'm going to stop the biotin and see what happens.
I'm a 66 year old female. I complained of hair loss in 2018. I had a thyroid test which showed my TSH level was low at 04.1, but my primary doctor said everything was fine with my thyroid. Then covid hit so I did not go back to the doctor until 2022 when symptoms got worse. The updated thyroid test showed my TSH level dropped to 0.2, my ferritin level was at 5 and I had pre-hypertension and pre-diabetes. All of this appears to be clearing up now that i am on thyroid medication for hyperthyroidism caused by multi-nodular toxic goiter. I am still taking iron supplements every other day and hoping my iron level will be greatly improved since my last visit where it at least went to 18.. My hair loss has been improving over the last several months.
I've been struggling with Hashimotos for over 25 years now, and eight months ago my hair was noticeably getting thinner. I was able to cover the thinning areas with powder. In the last two weeks, I have lost CHUNKS of hair and now have bald spots on the front/top and side of my hair! My thyroid levels have been off for years, every time I get my labs done. I am beyond frustrated. I am discouraged and depressed. I feel like a guinea pig... try this and if that doesn't work, try that, and if that doesn't work, try this other thing. I appreciate this video because after I watched it, I asked my Endocrinologist to include checking my vitamins (iron, etc.) in my test this week. But I'm still disheartened because it feels like an ongoing battle.
It's damn hard! Keep up the good work... don't give up. This is the 1st video I've seen that I now know how to start helping myself. I'm starting tomorrow & buying supplements. I've had it 12 yrs. & my Dr. & no one else knows what to do. Weight gain & dry, hard skin are 2 of my most obsessive issues & swollen gums for yrs..😞 I'll keep watching Dr. Childs videos.👍
@@pamelaschutte5581man. I have this mess too but i have both hashi and graves. Half my hair fell out 3 weeks ago. I am on PTU and I just want to stop taking it.
I told my doctor that Synthroid and levotheroxin (spelling) were making my hair fall out. He just kept upping it even without testing the levels. My body just started feeling more and more run down. I just stopped taking it. Yes, I know you aren’t supposed to do that, but it was getting to the point I couldn’t properly function and my hair was falling out in clumps.
I was suffering from hair loss up until recently. I believe that your supplements in addition to prescribed thyroid medication helped!!! I actually didn’t see a lull in hair loss until I started taking your supplements. So thank you for that!! However, I am interested in learning about how to promote regrowth after experiencing hair loss due to thyroid disease. I would love to see a video on that!
My Mom had her thyroid removed 10 years ago. She now takes levothyroxine and is experiencing massive hair loss and severely low energy. We will have to go down your checklist to do a process of elimination. Hopefully I can help her get back some energy, normality, and eventually some hair.
Hi Doctor. You mentioned on another vidoe that iron and biotin are the supplments that affect negatively the thyroid levels. What do we do in cases that we have big hair loss but also dont want to demage the thyroid glad by taking more iron or biotin? thanks
I do suffer from Hypothyroidism and went from having super thick wavy hair to very thin hair ( you can see my scalp) no matter how I style it. It's been a struggle even with what help I can get from my doctor. Thank you for the video.
So what did u learn here? I learned nothing There’s nothing here I can do different I have no ins so can’t take iron becuz I can’t get labs to check when I’m at a good level I do one bottle with lactoferrin also, every year (no more, so I don’t OD on iron)

Your advise is great my daughter suffers from Thyroid issues.I’m not sure the doctors in general go through with so much information as you, & yes hair loss is one of the issues concerned. Will be following your videos.
I just found and joined your channel! The video has provided is AMAZINGLY helpful and informative. Thank you Dr. Child. I am one of the 100s who is hearth broken by losing hair in the past 6 months. Lately it’s been bothering to the bone that I get emotional about it 😢
Thank you so much for your channel. I had the right side of my thyroid removed about 25 or 3o years ago. My family doctor never checked my blood or anything, just kept giving me synthroid. I started losing weight about 8 or 10 years ago. He finally checked and said the dose was to high and lowered it. A few months went by. He checked again and lowered it again. Finally I was on the lowest dose possible. I kept losing weight so I quit taking them, not realizing the importance. I gained my weight back. Fast forward. I started losing weight. He did no tests. I started losing hair. No tests. I lost weight big time. My normal weight is 98 to 100 lbs. I went down to 67 lbs. I have no arm pit hair, no vaginal hair and losing the hair from the top of my head. I have managed to gain a bit of weight..now 74 lbs. I had blood tests, after I insisted. That was 2 weeks ago but he doesn't seem to be interested in even telling me the results. He said my hair loss isn't so bad, just a bit of thinning. I tremble inside all the time to the point my legs will hardly hold me up. I have other symptoms, but I'm sure you know most of them. In alberta, it's almost impossible to find another doctor as none of them are accepting new patients. Now I don't know what to do. Any suggestions ? Thank you for listening to me. I take vitamin b17, calcium, vitamin c and d3.
My hairline has been receding for about ten years now (so not all over my head) and is very obvious, and heartbreaking to me. It’s receding from above my ears now and at age 65, I’m terrified about the future and being completely bald. I have an under active thyroid and was told years ago that hair loss was just part if that. I accepted this, but clearly there are things I can do to prevent it from getting worse. Your information has given me hope and I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am. Thank you! 😊

6:09pm It was pure luck that I stumbled on this video & I'm so glad. I've brought this up to so many doctors but, no one has tried to help ... they just blow me off like no big deal. I started to loose my hair since 2015. My hair was thick and almost to my waist. I've lost 2/3's of my hair. It has thined & broken off. It went from waist length to shoulder length without ever being trimmed. I am a brittle diabect with an insulin pump and CGM. My gallbladder was removed. I was on medication for my thyroid for years. In 2020 I quit taking the medication and started taking Nassin iodine, multiple vitiamins including biotin, MSM, ox bile, D3 & many more to help with my thyroid, lack of a gallbladder as well as liver cleanses because I also have a fatty liver due to my diabetes. I'm not over weight and I eat very healthy. I know I wrote a lot but, I'm gushing because your the only person I've dumped all this. Thank you for your information. Maryvella
I have had I think, at least 30-40%hair loss over last 4 years. At least it Seems like it. The crown of my head used to be full, now I feel my scalp and bangs are wispy. I have not cut hair length much so I keep illusion of fullness. Taking Biotin but not too much better
Love the video! I’m 39 and have hypo. Dealing with hair loss since I was 12. That’s how I found out I had hypo. Now it’s been more constant and going on for 3 years straight. I appreciate the info, and plan to look into all of it.
You are always “right on”. Love this format. I am a visual learner, so hearing it and seeing it helps with my comprehension. Thank you. Yes, but better with NDT.
You are not alone. I too am struggling and really appreciate Dr Child’s information. Dr you are helping so many. Thank you for all your efforts. I’m in a complicated situation and trying to figure it all out. People I who do not have to deal with these issues cannot possibly understand. So your videos as well as people sharing is very enlightening. Thank you everyone. Cathlyn from TN. Dr where do you practice? How can I find the right Dr for me? I’m near Chattanooga.
Over the last year I have experienced significant hair loss to the point of needing to have a topper and tape in extensions. I was diagnosed with hashimoto thyroiditis last year. I immediately went gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, and corn free. My hair continued to fall out. It is the most heartbreaking thing that I have ever experienced.
I've always had baby fine hair, and the only time my hair was lusciously long AND thick/strong was when I was pregnant 23 years ago. It made me feel like a Medieval maiden with thick, hip length reddish-brown glossy hair. I felt like I wore a gorgeous velvet cape every day. Then, when my son was born, two months later my hair began to fall out in clumps 😱! Now I'm in menopause my hair is thinning, and even though it feels 'see thru'' to me, I'm on supplements and vitamins, eat proper home-cooked meals, and STAY COMPLETELY AWAY FROM SUGARS; I'm doing everything I can to keep away from toxins and live healthy and naturally. My hair is shoulderblade length and looks okay, but you can tell I have thinning hair. So when I have my parathyroid gland surgery, everything should return to almost normal, so my doctors say. I pray I do because I'm SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED! 😩
Try watching videos on Organic Caster oil for healing the Liver and thyroid ! Staying away from US Gluten and packaged foods helps a lot. I use Heritage Organc Caster Oil and I already sleep better and dream a lot when before i barely slept. I st heard about the many benefits from the female doctor who started ; Queen of Thrones. I take magnesium Citrate 3/day and potassium glucinate 3/ day.
Hair loss. My thyroid stopped working around the time I started menopause. I take Levothyroxine. I also take Biotin daily. I have told my doctor, but she says it's nothing to worry about.
Ive been losing my hair slowly for the last couple years. Ive tried several products that claimed to grow hair in the last 3 years. The last product was Nutrafol. It didn’t work and it was quite expensive. I quit using anything for the last three months and I swear my hair is better. I looked at the ingredients and its full of Biotin and Selenium. That was a surprise to hear that too much can cause hair loss. Thanks for the video!
I am 65 - male - was feeling sluggish - so off I go to a Wellness Dr. Start on Trt, dhea, and 100mcg Levo and 5mcg Liothy - which was increased to 10mcg after a month. By week 6 - I was feeling worse. By week 12 did labs and all my numbers improved - but I felt worse and got new symptoms. I told the Doc - I don’t want to be on TRT as I blamed it for my new problems. I stayed on dhea and T-3 and T-4. Felt better but no drastic improvements - but from the beginning my thick hair is going down the drain. The Doc increased my Levo to 200mcg and Liothy to 15mcg per day - its been a year and my heart beats hard - which I can handle - but my hair is still falling - damn I thought it was the TRT - causing a rise on Estrogen. But maybe not - it could be the T4 and T3 I am taking - did I say its been a year - I am considering weaning off the T4 and T3 - because its not like I feel fantastic and I am losing my hair down the middle at a higher rate than normal! Plus I gained weight - 20 lbs. worth. Damn in my quest to feel better - I made everything worse!
Yes, I am having hair loss. Had my thyroid surgically removed in 1967. Now my doctor keeps adjusting my levels, now down to .75mcg and I feel awful.. exhausted, brain fog, very dry skin and many other issues along with the hair loss. So tired of hea4ing "well you are getting old" as a reason
I hear u .Thats the doctors go to.They dont want to be bothered or dont give a shit...some both so thats what comes up " ur getting up there" or well at ur age" They really piss me off
This is just what I needed I had lovely long hair till I got hoshimotos now I have short thin hair and it's devastating after having long hair all my life. So thanx heeps for doing this video is really appreciate it
I have been dieting, cut out meat for personal reasons and my iron had been low all my life, until I just completely let myself go after the second baby. This second pregnancy, I didn't exercise, gained 60lbs, took my iron and my hair grew long and thick. I'm dieting again but not extremely to the point of using laxatives just exercise alone, I'm helping the lighter meals with supplements, iron, folic acid and my hair is still thick and longer than ever. I'm thinking it was the low iron that made it fall out. I recommend protein, never leave it out. I started eating meat again especially during this second pregnancy.
I am a 48 old Hashimoto patient who is also an elpileptic patient. I am on Eltroxin two days 150 other days 100. I believe I am treating the TSH but not sure. I know I will learn much more from this channel.
⭐️ Question 1st, then comment: When switching thyroid meds within the same class or adjusting dose for optimization, about how long will it take before we would/could notice if that’s the reason for the thyroid related hair loss or that it’s time to move on to the next possible reason for hair loss? ⭐️My comment: My hair loss started pretty suddenly and hasn’t slowed down. I’m at the point where I’m buying alternative hair to mix with my bio hair to hide where my scalp has become visible through my hair at the temple and top of my head. Thankfully it’s turning into a fun journey instead of a never ending chase in finding hair pieces that look 100% natural and like the hair is really growing out of my scalp. But it’s still devastating to see my hair go through this drastic change within a matter of months and not know why or where to even start with reversing or at least stopping any more hair from falling out until I found your videos. So much great info in a format that works for me! I also experienced super sudden weight gain (15-20lbs) around march of this year. And just recently my cold tolerance has become non existent. I’m painfully cold where I was usually running on the hot side compared to everyone else. It’s hard bc I have many avenues to research for my hair loss. The women in my family all have extremely thin hair when they get older, where way too much scalp shows. Starts to show up in our 40’s and just gets worse as we age. I’m 42 and I noticed changes happening once I hit 41. So genetics is one possible reason for mine. Also my hormones. However I take progesterone-only birth control pills so I’m curious how that affects the E2/P balance you talked about. Then there’s the hypothyroidism I’m currently not taking medicine for but was taking 60 mg/ day of armour. I also need to figure out how much, if any, is due to adrenal fatigue since my parasympathetic nervous system never gets to kick in and give my fight or flight, sympathetic nervous system a rest being in an extremely unhealthy and stressful relationship at home combined with my on-the-spectrum 7yr old child that can’t do the distance learning method of school without me being fully engaged and helping with hand over hand &/or staying focused or redirecting him every minute of his class. Most stress I’ve ever experienced in my life with no relief ever, plus i can’t squeeze in my early morning hike/jog I used to get since covid hit, which created a routine that has me sleep deprived due to too much on my plate daily. I could go on but this is already too long. Point is is I have many reasons for my hair loss and didn’t know how I could possibly narrow it down until I found your information-packed videos! Obviously a lot of work ahead for my answers and to reach some kind of healthy homeostasis but at least you’re giving me the power to do it myself, to know which values are the key ones to always look at and to know what the numbers mean and what the next step is depending on those numbers instead of getting nowhere with my primary care doc that says “all your blood work came back in the normal healthy range, you’re fine.” So thank you 😊
Yeah...it's always...you're in a good range! Blah, blah, blah! But I still have MANY health issues. I'll be trying Dr. Childs suggestions. Keep trying...hang in there!
I’m totally suffering from hair loss my general practitioner and dermatologist were totally unhelpful. Never heard anything like this from either of them, other than telling me to eat meat and take B vitamins, which I do.
Go to an Endocrinologist and ask for a complete hormonal test, my dermatologist sent me a shampoo, my family dr said it was age. My Endocrinologist found that I was extremely anemic and had tyroid problems.
I have hair loss, and I have rheumatoid arthritis, and Hashimoto’s. I also tested positive for lupus, before the rheumatoid arthritis. I stopped coloring my hair so I am fully gray/white, my hair has turned very curly, and my eyebrows are missing the outer third area. I have used a hair thickener on my brows and lashes, and I have had success with that.(Grande eyebrow and eyelash thickener). I just bought a growth serum for my hair so we’ll see how that works!
Dr. Westin, Thank you so much for the very informative video. Learned so much today. I am losing my hair like crazy In one month I lost more than half of my hair :(
I was diagonsed with Hyperthyroidism and but on 15 reduced to 5mg of Carbimazole tablets. Now my hair is thinning out. I made an appoint to see my doctor. Thank you for this video as I want to know what test I should be asking my doctor to find out what can I do to resolve the issue.
Thank you. I feel 4/ 5/ 6/ might relate to me, seen as though I'm menopausal. My hair loss as been on going for a few years good job I had thick hair to begin with, but what I noticed recently it seems to happen every 6 to 8 wks like something to do with growth cycle. The hair fall is abnormally high. It doesn't break off, It comes from the root. I'm going to try Zinc on an evening see if this helps.
Yes I am male, and is experiencing hair fall out, My scalp has gotten dry and Hair is getting very thin. I believe I have a thyroid problem but every time I get a checked the doctor says it’s fine. But my symptoms says otherwise: vertical ridged nails; Loss of outer eyebrow hair.
Hi Doctor Childs- I just got my lab results back and my total iron was normal but my ferritin was only 20. What can I do to increase my ferritin? I already take prenatal vitamins that contain 27 mg of iron and my hair is still falling.
This was so helpful, wow. My ferratin dipped in the last 9 months to 23 from the 50s and I have sickle cell anemia. Back on my liquid iron today! Hoping this optimizes my hair loss because I feel better in my Hashis otherwise these days!
Hair loss for 7 years. GP refused to test me for thyroid issues even though I have multiple symptoms of hypothyroidism. I got test done privately and it came back with TSH of 9.1. Also got test done for cholesterol levels - bad cholesterol levels were high and good cholesterol levels were low. Reported all to GP via email and text. Now GP refuses to give me an appointment. I'm on my own here. At least now I know what home blood test kits I need to order next. That's a whole lot of finger pricking ahead. Before being tested I tried biotin for months - hair loss increased. Now I know why - thanks for that. Also tried minoxidil. Protein treatments - you name it I've tried it. Recently bought peptides for hair growth that are applied to scalp after washing. I love your videos Dr. Childs. Wish you were in Ireland so that I could get some good medical help with this as I am totally on my own which is absolutely disgraceful.
Great video Dr.! What I did to address my hair loss (and my overall health) was to change my diet from a high carbohydrate/low animal protein to lower carbohydrate and higher quality animal protein. I have been doing this for about 2 months now and feel AMAZING! I see a significant positive change in hair loss and just my overall health. I used to have clumps of hair falling out in the shower and I’m so happy that’s improving. 😊
Yes, I suffer with Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's along with my twin. I am currently on 50 mg of Synthroid and 5 mg of Liothyronine. I know it is also genetics because my mother had it and I believe my grandmother did too. They were from Mexico and were under diagnosed for a long time which I believe cause them both to lose their hearing around the similar age. I struggle with hairless and am really trying anything in my power to help it. So your right it does cause other autoimmune diseases and along with genetics it worsen for me I knew my twin had Hashimoto's and didn't get tested until recently when symptoms worsened because of Covid. I also suffer from other immune issues since covid so it is pretty serious condition that does spread. Thanks for bringing awareness.
This was so helpful and gave me a direction to go in to help solve my hair related thyroid issues. I've been suffering for so long and I really appreciate this video
I also used to have thick and beautiful black hair. I have hypo/Hashimoto. My hair became dull during Covid and I stopped coloring and let gray grow. Was looking beautiful and healthy for almost a year and then it became brittle and started loosing a lot of hair. I have not figured out if is falling or breaking and the weird thing is that I don’t see any bold spots. Started a multivitamin supplement Costco brand and after a few months the amount has reduced. I also take D3 and sublingual B12. Thank you for your informative videos. Checked my vitamins and need to change the multivitamin.
I had hypothyroidism, and since being on Keto, I no longer have it. But I do still have hair loss, that I contributed to the thyroid. It seems to be less hair loss, but I think that is because I have less hair. So not sure what the cause is. I don't want to go on Rogain or the other hair loss treatments, because it is something I will have to do the rest of my life, and just don't think I will be able to keep it up in my older age.
Are you struggling with hair loss/hair fall? If so leave your comment below and let me know what you've been doing for treatment. ALSO, I forgot to mention but you can check out a product I have designed to help improve hair growth in thyroid patients (which works independently of the factors listed in this video) which you can learn about here: www.restartmed.com/product/thyroid-hair-regrowth-complex/

It has literally been broken/ bald in that area for almost 6 years
Do you reccomend these supplements of yours for hyperthyroid aswell as hypo
Hypo with hair loss and dry skin. It's heartbreaking!
You must live somewhere in Canada, most family doctors here are like that😏
I hope you get a new Dr. Good luck.. my Drs don’t know what they are doing either.
Hard to find a Dr that really cares. Patients are like cattle..... next 😢
Doctors really aren't concerned with how you feel, cause it's all about the money😅!!!
What u need is to report hiM and get a good dr.!

2.Iron Ferrittin
3.Selinium/Biotin
4.Low Zinc or B12

The hair on my head began shedding big time after a very stressful period I went through. So, I myself researched the net and opted to experiment with a hair oil called litttleextra coocoonion & a comb made of neem wood. The results truly made a difference. At present, I have lengthy, thick, black hair that has grown down to my waist and cut off on three occasions since I started. Simple & effective. Also, just as good is massaging your scalp - it stimulates the growth. You only have to do this weekly. Before long, you will see new hair starting to grow.
You cannot get that shampoo in United States. If you can it’s not the real thing.

Great video!

i was able to stop my hair from falling and make it stronger by doing these things: 1- i started eating more foods with protein and vitamins like lentils, avocadoes, berries, chia seeds, nuts, beans, plain greek yogurt, spinach, soy bean, etc.

I feel your pain. Same😢

Also. I am 73

What was in your blood lab results that showed you have Hashimotos. What should I be looking for? Thanks!
@@deedee2218 I can't remember the details of my blood tests. My dermatologist sent me to my regular doctor, who ran more blood tests, and then she diagnosed me. I believe it had something to do with elevated thyroid antibodies.

Hows your hair now? I have wondered from the beginning if my hair loss was from Levothyroxine.
Good luck!
Euthyrox is levothyroxine
@@CM7777... yes, Euthyrox is Levothyroxin. But it is the "name brand". Levothyroxin sold as generic is different by at least one ingredient.
@@CM7777...Wow, that’s good to know.

Can it be available in India?
It has iodine. Hashimoto’s can’t take it.
My thyroid gland has been swollen for several years now. I did not know that this condition could have caused my hair loss. Thank you.
How is the red light therapy cap doing for you?
@@divakim206I hope that person you ask that question to is still alive.
Cut the gluten
What happened with the nodules?
Doctors LOVE underdosing for hypothryoidism. Stay on top of your blood tests and how you feel; don't let them drop your dose if you feel well.
I also saw a dermatologist because my scalp was really itching she rx ketoconozle
Shampoo. It had helped a little. My grey hair has become thin and
Flightly.
Have you problem resolved..I am facing similar problem..
I'm talking thyroid medication and I never loose my hair. Thanks God I have a lot of hair a lot.
Any improvement?
@@sabenconte3559 no lmao but I’ve been to my doctor about it and I’m on the waiting list to see a dermatologist
Won’t do u any good to see a dr lol
Of the research and videos I've done, you are the first to mention loss of thyroid and other problems that are not just hyper and hypo.
What have u done that's helped?

Hi Doctor. You mentioned on another vidoe that iron and biotin are the supplments that affect negatively the thyroid levels. What do we do in cases that we have big hair loss but also dont want to demage the thyroid glad by taking more iron or biotin? thanks
Hyperthyroidism need more iron than hypothyroidism try to eat liver organ o try to get liver capsules

Lately it’s been bothering to the bone that I get emotional about it 😢
yes i have a loss and am looking at you right now ,very helpful for me to hear what you have to say
Try rosemary oil on the scalp and biotin supplements. I hope this helps 🙏
Yes I do have hairloss. Thanks for your video. My dose of thyroxine will be increased and advised to increase my dose of vitamin D and take iron
My hairline has been receding for about ten years now (so not all over my head) and is very obvious, and heartbreaking to me. It’s receding from above my ears now and at age 65, I’m terrified about the future and being completely bald. It was pure luck that I stumbled on this video & I'm so glad.

My start fall out since 2920 still fall out 😢I lost all my hair 😢more stressful 🙃
Yes. Hypothyroid and post menopausal.

But maybe not - it could be the T4 and T3 I am taking - did I say its been a year -
I am considering weaning off the T4 and T3 - because its not like I feel fantastic and I am losing my hair down the middle at a higher rate than normal! Plus I gained weight - 20 lbs. worth. Damn in my quest to feel better - I made everything worse!
Not your fault!!! We keep trying. Hang in there. It's damn hard but we keep on! All of us!👍
I got off the T3 and T4 and quit the dhea- but the damage is already done.

The royal giant GAMER hey, has your hair gre back thicker now?
I have been dieting, cut out meat for personal reasons and my iron had been low all my life, until I just completely let myself go after the second baby. This second pregnancy, I didn't exercise, gained 60lbs, took my iron and my hair grew long and thick. I'm dieting again but not extremely to the point of using laxatives just exercise alone, I'm helping the lighter meals with supplements, iron, folic acid and my hair is still thick and longer than ever. I'm thinking it was the low iron that made it fall out. I recommend protein, never leave it out. I started eating meat again especially during this second pregnancy.
Omg hoshimotos. And hair loss is insane. This was helpful to know a bit of why its happening
I am a 48 old Hashimoto patient who is also an elpileptic patient. I am on Eltroxin two days 150 other days 100. I believe I am treating the TSH but not sure. I know I will learn much more from this channel.
⭐️ Question 1st, then comment:
When switching thyroid meds within the same class or adjusting dose for optimization, about how long will it take before we would/could notice if that’s the reason for the thyroid related hair loss or that it’s time to move on to the next possible reason for hair loss?
⭐️My comment:
My hair loss started pretty suddenly and hasn’t slowed down.
This channel has been more helpful than any appointment

I have hair loss, and I have rheumatoid arthritis, and Hashimoto’s. I also tested positive for lupus, before the rheumatoid arthritis. I stopped coloring my hair so I am fully gray/white, my hair has turned very curly, and my eyebrows are missing the outer third area. Hi Doctor Childs- I just got my lab results back and my total iron was normal but my ferritin was only 20. What can I do to increase my ferritin? I already take prenatal vitamins that contain 27 mg of iron and my hair is still falling.
Thank you very helpful. I have thyroid problems and hair loss.
This was so helpful, wow. My ferratin dipped in the last 9 months to 23 from the 50s and I have sickle cell anemia. Back on my liquid iron today! Hoping this optimizes my hair loss because I feel better in my Hashis otherwise these days!
THANK YOU❣️❣️❣️
can you suggest a good iron supplement, the one you are taking, or is it a prescription? thank you
Hair loss for 7 years.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
How is your hair doing? I'm losing so much hair, do you eat grass fed?
Tell me more about the diet change....is it keto or what. Do you take supplements? Use anything special on hair? Do you take thyroid replacement?
@@vicki7807 I'd Iove to know all those things as well!
Update?
Yes, my 23 year old son does have this problem. He is on levothyroxine. He had raid a few months ago.
Sadly, yes. i have most of those issues, but also yes on the autoimmunity. Thankyou for the video!!
Black seed powder has helped me tremendously with hair loss!!!!
How did you use it for hair kindly tell me please
