As someone who has been riding horses since the age of 2, I have to say that Glastrier's concept might also be a cold-blooded horses, a group of horses that house draft horses such as Percherons, Shires, Clydesdales, and Belgians. The icy fetlocks seem to be similar to the feathering on many draft horses that cover most of their hooves Edit: Oh, and I didn’t realize this until recently, but Spectrier does also appear to be based on the Friesian. Perhaps the Old English Black origin was foreshadowing the release of PLA.
@@shadowmarauder6033 No. "cold-blooded" horses refers to their overall temperament. Cold-blooded horses tend to be gentle and more passive than other types of horses. They also tend to be larger and stronger on average, which makes them good for draft work.
@@shadowmarauder6033 None are cold-blooded in the way reptiles are. They’re all mammals who don’t need to soak up external heat for energy. Rather, cold-blooded, warm-blooded, and hot-blooded are terms that refer to the build and temperament of various horse breeds. Cold-blooded horse breeds tend to be larger, heavier, more placid, but also slower to start running and slower to train. Hot-blooded horse breeds are light, agile, sharp-witted, and sometimes angrier than most others. And warm-blooded horse breeds are somewhere between those two extremes.
Well, now you've got me thinking. If Glastrier and Spectrier both have one eye covered, and you bring up division, is this a Tao Trio sort of situation? Like Glastier and Spectrier were once a single Pokémon, like Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem, but over time, as people forgot them and Calyrex's grip began to slip, they divided into two beings, and as Calyrex was seperated from it's Noble Steed, it even began to forget what it looked like. Now, since people are remembering Calyrex, but only one of the horses, the two will never be one again.
I thought the same thing when the DLC first came out. Think if there was an original, it would be an eight-legged horse like the one Odin used. Odin is also known as missing one eye.
@@grunkleg.2934 They were pretty obvious anyway. We had ice age, Stone Age, Bronze Age, then medieval era and modern era with electricity. They seem like an aside to the rest because they’re a continuation from old legendaries.
The crown tundra has so many things to analyse in terms of lore, I think that it would be nice if one day we got a book telling the chronology of each region and they explain thing like this. Because it looks like Eternatus arrives to earth 20 000 years in the past, but the interesting thing is that the darkest day and the creation of the ultimate weapon happened 3000 years before the present, so what if after the ultimate weapon was shot, the energy made Eternatus wake up, this because the regions are very close between them and it is even posible that the war was between Kalos and Galar. After this Calyrex would try to fight eternatus (this is why he has a blue aura opposed to red dinamax aura) but he would loose and end up like we see him at the begining of crown Tundra, so after this the story of the two heros would happen and the rest of the things that we know. Another thing interesting is that it is pmlied that both heroes were born in Postwick, so it would be possible that before loosing, Calyrex gave to the heroes the power of the sword and the shield to beat Eternatus
It's been awhile for a Crown Tundra video, but I do enjoy hearing about Calyrex and Rider forms, I always wonder if its blue aura in Dynamax form is its own power.
Personally I think it’s a power equal and opposite to Eternatus. The lore in the Crown Tundra says that Calyrex arrived wounded and exhausted, near death. There are also dex entries about how it “saved the creatures of a forest from a meteor strike.” Is it possible it saved Pokémon during the Darkest Day and battled Eternatus?
@@halberd-3291 Not just possible, likely. Throughout the Crown Tundra you can find statues telling the story of Calyrex, and one of them says that Calyrex feared an open palm, and what does the true form of Eternatus look like?
@@Druid-T Damn, I missed that one. Another thing is that Eternatus might have first landed in the Max Lair in the Crown Tundra. There are devices like in the power plant beneath Hammerlockr, where it broke out in SwSh’s climax, space-time is warped and broken in the Max Lair, it’s an immense source of Eternatus’ dynamax energy, and it’s rumored there is a “giant wishing star” deep within, which could be a kind of egg for Eternatus. So, if Eternatus originally emerged beneath the Crown Tundra, it would be beneath the highest point, the Crown Shrine, with the giant sacred tree of Calyrex. It’s similar to the serpentine dragon Nidhoggr of Norse myth, who is trapped underground, and gnaws on the roots of the world tree, Yggdrasil. And at Ragnarok, the war between the gods and the giants, Nidhoggr finally emerges. Eternatus is also a serpentine dragon that slumbers underground, beneath the “great tree” of Calyrex. Like Nidhoggr it seems like an entity of pure destruction. It emerges during an apocalyptic battle for the world, the Darkest Day, where the heroes of Galar fought the “giant” dynamax Pokémon it created, like the battle between the gods and giants in Ragnarok. There are even more connections but this all but confirms Calyrex fought Eternatus, especially if he is inspired by Odin like Lockstin suggests. The lore of Galar is honestly incredible.
But I think there is a lot more to get from the Arthurian legends, the 2 Horses that he can ride, they are Llamrei AND Hengroen, when he rides Glastrier, he could be riding Llamrei, gets an attack called Glacial Spear, which Is based on Rhongomynyad, which was one of the weapons of the good Arthie, it was the Lance that was given by God to him, it was the spear slayer or the cutting spear, the other one comes when he rides Spectrier, who gives It the attack of Astral Barrage, which can be an obscure interpretation of the dagger Carnwennan, which supposedly could shroud His user in the Shadows, bot weapons are used on conjunction, so maybe that is a reference too
Something that I find pretty interesting is the fact that in SwSh the legendaries in the story can only be stopped by other legendaries. Human help is of course still necessary, mainly to restore the power of the "good" legendaries that can help save the day but my point is that I find pretty cool that dynamic/relationship between legendaries and how it ties as well with their connection to humans in the story.
I knew Calyrex was deceptively deep, but I hadn’t thought the possibilities could go that far! Also, the one thing I wanted answered going into this video was the blue Dynamax aura unique to Calyrex, but maybe that’ll come later in a Dynamax related video.
“Surprised u still haven’t done the calyrex and his steeds lore video u said u would do at some point” I commented this on yesterday’s video I must be frickin psychic or something
Its mind boggling at just how deep the creators delve into myths and of the allegories behind each design that really gives them further depth rather than just something picked out of the reject bin because there was nothing left, not sure if there will be much change within the Sinnoh remakes but it does make me all the more excited for the legend of Arceus now. As for the reigns of unity, I would have considered that part of the game to have taken inspiration from the golden bridle of Pegasus and Bellerophon, though the Irish myth can also make sense that particular story however, was the first that came to mind when it was mentioned.
Calyrex = King Arthur Glastrier and Spectrier = The steeds Zacian and Zamazenta = The Knights Eternatus = The dragon slaughtered by the knights Regidrago and Regieleki = the differance between the dark ages of dragons with this lore and the modern period of electricity where a new hero reawakens this ancient lore Galar birds and Urshifu = Nothing....they are Muda
How to Train your Dragon reference was highly appreciated with the Grimmsnarl mention. Grimmsnarl is one of my favorite Pokemon, and How To Train Your Dragon is one of my favorite series, so that's a double win from me!
I made a similar comment sometime ago, and seeing all of the mythological connections here only reinforces my theory that Galarian Slowking is based off of Druids/Sorcerers/Shamans, and how modern-day pop-culture perceives them. Calyrex and the Crown Tundra having ties to multiple mythologies helps bring Galarian Slowking, who only became obtainable once the Crown Tundra was released, closer to the mystic and religious side of ancient cultures
this is what I like from Lockstin videos, he keeps doing his research and presented them in such fashionable way, regardless the topics I love Galar Legendaries even more now
the constellation connection was unexpected and totally amazing! I would not have considered a grouping of objects in the night sky like that to be a reference for things, and yet it fits perfectly with that particular grouping of pokemon...
When calyrex and the steeds combine the dynamax energy is blue instead of red the game doesn’t explain it but there must be some lore for it right maybe this video explains it or it’s a separate one
The game itself explains it, Calyrex has a power equal and opposite to Dynamax Energy. Normal Dynamax mons are using Eternatus’ power, which makes them emit the same red glow as Eternatus’ core. In comparison, Calyrex and it’s rider forms use Royal blue power, seemingly purified Dynamax Energy.
@@Aiden-rw3vb hey wait a sec, wasn't Calyrex's showcase of power in the DLC speeding up the growth of a carrot, or rather, making it BIGGER? And on top of that, he had to dance to use his power, much like a certain alolan custom...
This is probably the most well thought out generation of legendaries. Can't wait to see what they think up next. I also recently figured out that Calyrex's quest may or may not be based on Small Gods by Terry Pratchett, who was a British author so good and famous that he was knighted, where a god gets stuck in a tortoise body and has to get a peasant boy to be his prophet.
I think the hero might have actually existed, but been a human that commanded the wolves, or Calyrex, much like the Prince's that were also heroes and the founders of Unova, that caused the One dragon to split into the Tao trio... maybe they were the children or descendants of the human hero or Calyrex, if Calyrex going deeper into the lore that's in the Canalave library that humans and Pokemon used to marry each other.
Ok as a British guy there’s one thing that shocks me and that is, how detailed and how British our Galar Pokemon are. Like it’s shocking how much Game Freak lore, design and inspiration they put into all of our Galar Pokemon and may I be bold and say so far the most inspiration they done for a regions Pokemon. You can say anything you like how good or bad the Sword & Shield games were but there’s no denying that the actual Pokemon were made perfectly for the region (even the people that might not like the Pokemon can’t deny that fact, after all people can still hate perfection which is actually part of the reason why King Arthur got killed because he was too perfect of a king and a lot of people didn’t like that)
Man excellent video and I consider most of your videos amazing, but this one is in top tier. I could recognize elements of Cernunos and Arthur from Calyrex however amazing job with the Irish king - Pooka and Oberon ties. I didn’t know about the Pooka. Between that and the Odin I think that’s made me really enjoy the horses. Also as a big SMT fan I’m glad to have seen Kazuma Kaneko’s Kelpie and with the chess reference I’m sure we are getting India in gen 9. That constellation part at the end was mind blowing. Makes me appreciate these games even more.
I recently got into mythical creatures a lot more than normal, especially British ones (cause yk, it's fun to know heritage and all that) and there are _so many_ horses in British other Viking colonies' folklore. Like the kelpie/nyker you mentioned? That basic motif (spectral/fey horse, likes to drown people) appears literally _all over_ northern Europe, it was so cool seeing them referenced in this video
I thought spectrier could have inspiration from the church Grimm. Mostly being shown as dogs they did have some as farm animals like horses. And spectrier food grows in a graveyard where the Grimm are created. And it’s home looks like a torn down church or cathedral in a way, where the Grimm stay to protect . Just my thoughts
Its based on the Pooka from Irish mythology. Brian Boru, the high king was the only one able to ride the ghost horse. Sounds very much like Calyrex and Spectrier.
I hope we receive a Wales based region soon. Just to see more Wales inspired Pokémon, perhaps a ghost dog Pokémon based off Gelert, maybe a bit of lore behind it with a connection to Trevenant.
Considering Galar already squashes the area wales would be into the icy area, we won't likely be getting a region strictly based on wales. Ever. Sorry.
@@voltrainer while I do not think we will get a full region based on Wales. I'm pretty sure that Galar is great Briton upside down with the crown tundra being analogous to Scotland
If anything, travelling to an Ireland based region would be more likely considering its vastly a more known and relevant country internationally than Wales. No hate, just telling the truth.
@@Stevenbfg is Ireland more relevant and well-known internationally? I’ve never really heard people talk about it. I hear a lot of people talk about Wales though, since I grew up within driving distance of Wales and people would occasionally go to North Wales for a holiday. I would doubt to get a region based off Ireland, else they may get a tad bit of backlash. The IRA may stop them from making an Ireland region for a while longer, though they aren’t still active (as far as I know) GameFreak would probably like to avoid provoking them. They _could_ do another Alola like idea, two different islands for Northern Ireland and Republic Of Ireland. They could go the extra mile and do a third island, for the Isle Of Man. We do already have the Isle Of Armour, which is partially based off Isle Of Man, so that may not happen. There are plenty of smaller islands in the UK they could do, like the Isle Of Wight for example, but it might be difficult to connect them all without just doing a colder climate of Alola.
3:02: personally I think of Oberon from Disney's gargoyles cartoon from the 90's, you know, the one introduced during the Goliath chronical that is the step-father of Zanaises wife, Fox. and coincidentally is also her Fay biological mother's 1st husband that she remarried after she reviewed she was immortal.
David Xanatos.* Fox Renard* whose mother is Titania, wife of Oberon. But, also, the Wyrd Sisters, MacBeth, (Des)Demona, Owen (Puck). Gargoyles is a love letter to Shakespeare's plays. Goliath himself is basically supernatural Othello.
I love how all the SwSh legendaries all connect! I’m just wondering if there could even be a way for the two new regi’s and the galarian legendary birds to fit as well
I’ve wiped with sandpaper before and have shaved my armpits with an axe on a hike to keep ticks from getting into the hairs. I appreciate this sponsor segment 🍻
6:11 In the case of Fate's version of Francis Drake when using her Golden Wild Hunt Noble Phantasam, a fleet of ghost pirate ships. The deceased souls of the pirates who defeated the Spanish armada under her command. (apparently there is an actual legend of Sir Francis Drake doing a Wild Hunt so that checks out). Drake and her ghost armada might not ride horses but she _is_ the rider class and the riding ability gives the servants the abilty to ride basically anything, like how King Artoria Pendragon could drive a car or motorbike. She preferred motorbikes of course because they're closer to horses lol. (Artoria is usually a saber but her saber form has the riding skill, as do all the of the Knights of the Round as sabers)
While it might be a coincidence there is an Irish story that has a king known for great harvests and one year a flock of birds destroys the entire harvest, the King gets all his finest hourses and bravest men (possibly one of the reasons for the swords of justice being in the Crown tundra)and the King sets off after these birds to later be revealed to actually be three giant birds
Given the subtle sounds at the end of Eternatus’ cry, I think he’d also be classifiable as an Ultra Beast. After all he is a space alien from god only knows where
Just wanted to mention the one white horse painting you used was of a Nixen(Nøkken) diving into water and not a pukka. It's similar to a kelpie, but takes many forms.
@@Otisblunder I guess the biggest difference is that a horse is not the most popular form of the the Nixen. While the kelpie is mainly known as a horse. They do have a lot of similar lore however
i cannot begin to explain how much i like this video. not only does this give me a reason to actually like the legendary steeds but also the way you tie in the other legendaries with the other constellations at the end is just so satisfying.
Listen i may be high as ball rn but that made perfect sense and the best part is that I can watch it again hungover in morning because I know I'm not remembering any of this
It's a bit of a stretch, but another horse and rider inspiration could be the Greek hero Bellerophon, the only man to tame Pegasus. Pegasus was wild and unrideable until Bellerophon fitted him with a bridle he received from Athena. Technically, Pegasus also had a brother, a man named Chrysaor. The two sprang forth from Medusa after Perseus cut off her head. It's not a great fit, but given the ties between the cultures of Britain and Rome, and Rome and Greece, I thought it was worth mentioning
...and the PLAYER is orion! the player saves galar, is the best student at the Master Dojo, and stops Glas/SpectRier from destroying a big statue of Calyrex. IT ALL COMES TOGETHER!
a lot of ghosts in Indian mythos (especially female ghosts) have a very striking feature about them, they have backward feet. And considering Galar is based on Britain, it makes EVEN MORE SENSE
Another amazing video revealing a lot of details and interesting folklore that continues to have me scream at my screen, "Please tell me your going to watch Overly Sarcastic Productions, I know this isn't the first time it's been brought up in your comments! Aaagggggggghhhhhhh!!", prop. Also genuinely hope you didn't accidently hurt yourself during that sponsorship, safety is import and so are you.
And with all of that, they came up with Horse But Ghost and Horse With Ice. Honestly, horses might be one of the most surprisingly limited animals for making fantasy creatures. They pretty much all look exactly the same.
I always thought that the fusion of Calyrex and his steeds made the resulting creation resemble the Knuckelavee. That's why his legs are so hard to see, its a humanoid body and head literally fused to the back of a ghostly horse!
I love how much depth you put into your research for these videos. It’s really neat how you just wrapped all the legendaries together in one video and it pertained to astrology in the end. I love astrology so it’s cool that it tied in like that. Keep up the awesome work dude!
"Like the word nightmare" Actually, the term nightmare COMES from this myth. "Oh, you must've glanced a Night Mare" was an old reply to someone having bad dreams, as seeing one would supposedly cause bad dreams. Over time this became known as "having a Nightmare".
Lockstin talks so much about Mythology and stuff, I feel he would love doing something for Fire Emblem Heroes (Since the game so far has been based around Norse Mythology mixed in with some sprinkles of others)
Love Spectrier's design the moment I saw it. I seriously didn't know what they looked like, but I knew I wasn't getting the ice type and I'm so glad I didn't! I'm just so glad to hear the many connections it has to old English and Norse folklore. It might be "the edgy" horse but IT'S MY EDGY HORSE AND YOU WILL NOT TAKE IT FROM ME!!! (Plus I love fast Special Attackers, but Keldeo still tops it for my favorite list though. I love me a good horse, not enough good horse Pokemon.)
I thought of this following your recent mythical video, but Calyrex's Massive Crown reminded me very much of sultans, rulers of another kind of dynasty, with their large headwear. Considering horses are believed to have been domesticated in South Asia where sultanates occur, and that sultans are often depicted on horseback (there is even a horse breed called a sultan) with their horses having decorative plaited tails (much like Glastrier) ... I really feel that there is a strong hint at the next region being India and surrounding countries. Combined with Cuphant and Copperajah, Sinistea and Polteageist, and Urshifu referencing Martial Arts from that region... the hint being "redwood" which India has a protected endemic and culturally significant species of redwood tree. I think so.
Lockstin's lore videos are the main reason why I haven't done much work on my fakemon legendaries. They have to be complex enough to make Lockstin PROUD!
As a former carpenter, watching him "exfoliate" with wood shavings was just too real 😄 excellent video! I've been watching your content for years. Never a disappointment, great job explaining Calyrex👏👍
In the Philippines, there is folklore about the creature named Tikbalang. They said if you managed to pluck three golden hairs on its mane, you can control it and it will serve you until you die. The creature is half man and half horse.
I'd like to think both legendary horses came from both types of rapidash and one of the reasons that it is forgotten which was calyrex steed, because nobody could remember if it was the galarian or kantonian rapidash. More than likely the truth is calyrex actually used both horses, who knows there could be a third form combining all 3 of them haha but that's a theory for a different day, it would also make sense for their typing since the fairy/ psychic galarian rapidash when it surcomes to the cold spirit probably lingered on due to its fairy like magic and immense psychic powers to become the ghost type spectrier and the fire on the kantonian rapidash goes out due to the cold and then whatever gas or fluid rapidash uses in its body to create it flames freezes to become ice and become the ice type glastrier. Sorry if this doesn't make much sense haha.
The video could have been perfect too, but you didn't add a "It all comes together". Seriously, I'm still rewatching that old theory series like every year, I would love to see something like that again
Don't forget that Kubfu and Urshifu could also be Ursa Minor and Ursa Major. And Ursa Major contains the Big Dipper, also called the Drinking Goard, hence the water type option.
The Elder Scrolls has Hircine, a Deadric Prince who serves as the Lord of the Hunt, and his realm is known as The Hunting Grounds where his worshipers participate in great hunts in the afterlife. There is also a ritual among the wood elves in the series known as the Wild Hunt.
So incase there isn't already enough layers here, another inspiration for Cailrex and he story of the Crown Tundra in general is The Fisher King. The Fisher King had an unfortunate injury that would make it uncomfortable to ride a horse and because of the king's lack of fertility the land withered and crops would not grow. However Sir Galahad or Arthurian legend used the power of the Holy Grail to heal The Fisher King and the kingdom was prosperous once more. This fits pretty well in Crown Tundra where Calirex lost the use of his steed causing the land to wither and a young hero comes along to reunite the king with his horse and revitalizing the land.
When you mentioned Spectrier's backwards hooves my first thought was of the tradition of putting a dead rider's boots backwards in their horse's stirrups at their funeral.
I'd like to point out that the Gemini date is May 21 to June 20 and the Isle of Armor DLC released on June 17th. That's godlike thought that was put into the inspiration to these Pokémon.
I know this is unrelated to the video, but recently an idea popped into my head for a Kaskade Lockemon. I don't expect anyone to see this, much less Lockstin, but the idea is thus: The infamous "Polybius" arcade, an urban legend of an arcade cabinet attributed to all sorts of spooky stuff was thought to be in the Portland Oregon area. That is all.
I like how you made sure to brush over the "Norse 8 legged horse" thing reaaally fast to avoid mentioning its...very bizarre Loki-related origin story. ;P Also the description and artistic depictions of Oberon (the King of fairies, not the moon of Uranus) all very much remind my of Tolkienian Elves. So I'm guessing Tolkien took a lot of inspiration from that when writing Lord of the Rings.
Whoa... This was the most epic legendary video I’ve ever seen! If this is truly where a lot of these legendaries get their inspirations from, Pokemon just raised the bar for Gen 9’s Pokemon!
Funny that you should mention Ol' One-Eyed Odin. Along with Sleipnir, he was also known for having a pair of ravens. What's funny about that is those ravens are sometimes(not often, but sometimes)depicted with one white and one black. Coincidence? I think not.
Fun fact the wild hunt is also in Japan. It's the yokai parade! I think it's actually called the festival of 100 demons. Because dark cold windy nights are everywhere
and then the tiger and bird are also what landorus and tornadus's therian forms are based on, which then connects to the other 2 forces of nature/auspicious beasts (thundurus=dragon, enamorus=turtle) and then there's also the yellow dragon in the middle (kyurem) which then connects to the other two members of the tao trio (reshiram and zekrom) leading to a 13 LEGENDARY ULTIMATE COMBO

Kalos vs. Galar
The French vs. The English
Anglo-French war
But I think there is a lot more to get from the Arthurian legends, the 2 Horses that he can ride, they are Llamrei AND Hengroen, when he rides Glastrier, he could be riding Llamrei, gets an attack called Glacial Spear, which Is based on Rhongomynyad, which was one of the weapons of the good Arthie, it was the Lance that was given by God to him, it was the spear slayer or the cutting spear, the other one comes when he rides Spectrier, who gives It the attack of Astral Barrage, which can be an obscure interpretation of the dagger Carnwennan, which supposedly could shroud His user in the Shadows, bot weapons are used on conjunction, so maybe that is a reference too
I'm surprised that Calyrex isn't one of your mascots for this channel just because of that massive gnoggin that it has there
Wait are you *THE* StickMaster500?
Return of the King
Huh. Didn’t know Stick would be here. How’s it do good sir

I can see calyrex being based on Arthur himself and the steeds being Arthur’s steeds since calyrex was a benevolent king like arthur
Calyrex = King Arthur
Glastrier and Spectrier = The steeds
Zacian and Zamazenta = The Knights
Eternatus = The dragon slaughtered by the knights
Regidrago and Regieleki = the differance between the dark ages of dragons with this lore and the modern period of electricity where a new hero reawakens this ancient lore
Galar birds and Urshifu = Nothing....they are Muda
yes just like the video said
Gargoyles reference with Oberon

How to Train your Dragon reference was highly appreciated with the Grimmsnarl mention.
Grimmsnarl is one of my favorite Pokemon, and How To Train Your Dragon is one of my favorite series, so that's a double win from me!
you sound 12
I love how a simple video about one legendary turned into a massive mind explosion of the interconnectedness of all the Galar Legends. Mind blown
The end of this video takes me back to 2016 Lockstin! "It all comes together!" It really ALL came together there at the end. Wow! I love this lore! 😍
WAIT THE END OF POKEMON THING IS FROM 2016!?
damn has it really been five years, only feels like two.
I made a similar comment sometime ago, and seeing all of the mythological connections here only reinforces my theory that Galarian Slowking is based off of Druids/Sorcerers/Shamans, and how modern-day pop-culture perceives them. Calyrex and the Crown Tundra having ties to multiple mythologies helps bring Galarian Slowking, who only became obtainable once the Crown Tundra was released, closer to the mystic and religious side of ancient cultures
this is what I like from Lockstin videos, he keeps doing his research and presented them in such fashionable way, regardless the topics
I love Galar Legendaries even more now
I think the strong start with the lore of the horses expanding to the constellations that match ALL legendaries in SWSH is hilarious and intriguing
the constellation connection was unexpected and totally amazing!
@@noivernblast3366 It's kinda like the color when Calyrex made the Petal of something using his powers so I agree with this
@@noivernblast3366 must have missed that part my mistake

I love how Pokémon acknowledge and embrace Equine mythology
@@Stevenbfg that’s cool I just thought the Grimm could’ve played a part in the design and why I goes around graveyards.
I must admit, that was the best Manscaped ad I have ever scene.
@@kcpatri it is.
David Xanatos.*
Fox Renard* whose mother is Titania, wife of Oberon.
But, also, the Wyrd Sisters, MacBeth, (Des)Demona, Owen (Puck). Gargoyles is a love letter to Shakespeare's plays. Goliath himself is basically supernatural Othello.
I love how all the SwSh legendaries all connect! I’m just wondering if there could even be a way for the two new regi’s and the galarian legendary birds to fit as well
Finally! I have been struggling to understand this trio and plot of the Crown Tundra!
Really good way to wrap up SwSh vids, super thorough and includes all the legends. Well done!
This was by far the best Manscaping ad I've seen to date.
That’s really cool
I just love how all of the gen 8 legendaries pull from the same constellation group
Given the subtle sounds at the end of Eternatus’ cry, I think he’d also be classifiable as an Ultra Beast. After all he is a space alien from god only knows where
Gotta love how Lockstin turns into Rouxls Kaard, when he speaks those Shakespeares! lol
Just wanted to mention the one white horse painting you used was of a Nixen(Nøkken) diving into water and not a pukka. It's similar to a kelpie, but takes many forms.
Dont kelpies also shape-shifting? I have lil to no knowledge of myth but thought I heard that somewhere
@@Otisblunder I guess the biggest difference is that a horse is not the most popular form of the the Nixen. While the kelpie is mainly known as a horse. They do have a lot of similar lore however

“Gamefreak likes making the ghost types extinct animals.”

But blimps are extinct. Well, at least critically endangered. There are only about 500 of them.
Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
7:30 i first thought it was a fused shadow kkkkkkkkkkk
I love how Lockstin is steppin up his sponsor commercial
Amazing work as always, Lockstin! I’m always so eager to see your videos about Pokemon lore and your in depth analysis always gets me so excited!!!
"Like the word nightmare" Actually, the term nightmare COMES from this myth. "Oh, you must've glanced a Night Mare" was an old reply to someone having bad dreams, as seeing one would supposedly cause bad dreams. Over time this became known as "having a Nightmare".
15:50 damn, that subtle front against zamazenta
Gotta love how thorough the research is for these videos
That calyrex plushes massive noggin is not gonna last
As a former carpenter, watching him "exfoliate" with wood shavings was just too real 😄 excellent video!
Loved the calyrex and steeds lore so deep
This is defiantly one of my favorite videos because I love when everything connects too
I'd like to think both legendary horses came from both types of rapidash and one of the reasons that it is forgotten which was calyrex steed, because nobody could remember if it was the galarian or kantonian rapidash.
I like the idea of the two horses being based of the two forms of Rapidash
If it wasn’t for Lockstin I don’t think people would appreciate these new Pokémon designs as much. I would certainly be clueless.
Some Pokémon may have bad designs on purpose just to relate to real world myths and legends.
I love each one of them.
The video could have been perfect too, but you didn't add a "It all comes together".
Seriously, I'm still rewatching that old theory series like every year, I would love to see something like that again
Am I the only one that watches his fohawk the whole vid while he is talking. I love it. It bounces. So fun!
I love it when nurds put their gnoggins to making interesting things! ♥ Also, another link to India. A region bassed in it is hopefully inevitable.
Don't forget that Kubfu and Urshifu could also be Ursa Minor and Ursa Major. And Ursa Major contains the Big Dipper, also called the Drinking Goard, hence the water type option.
These two horses are perfect examples of pokemon designs not needing to be cluttered to be deep and complex! Minimalism forever
Duude I can’t believe they all FIT TOGETHER LIKE THAT. It blows my mind.
These videos about mythology and folklore with Pokémon ties my love for Pokémon and the growing for Shin Megami Tensei games even tighter!
I like how you made sure to brush over the "Norse 8 legged horse" thing reaaally fast to avoid mentioning its...very bizarre Loki-related origin story. ;P
Also the description and artistic depictions of Oberon (the King of fairies, not the moon of Uranus) all very much remind my of Tolkienian Elves. So I'm guessing Tolkien took a lot of inspiration from that when writing Lord of the Rings.
12:36 I first learned about these when I got into both the Persona and SMT series
After lostbelt I can’t hear the orberon without thinking of betrayal
