Though a little late, one could argue that Delibird is in Galar because of the large amount of Christmas themed literature that originates from the UK. For example, A Christmas Carol is one of the most known Christmas themed novels of all time and was written by a British author, Charles Dickens. Of course, this is a stretch, and probably not the case but, it's a possibility.
Another consideration for Elgyem and Beeheyem is that the novel War of the Worlds took place in England. The author of War of the Worlds, H.G. Wells, was also British. Elgyem and Beeheyem's hands also resemble the faces of the aliens from the 1953 adaptation.
A two word counterpoint: Meiji Restoration. To expand: These two lines greatly embody the UK's involvement with the Meji Restoration, even if ninja weren't really a thing anymore back then... Also Accelgor could be viewed as a stock racer or drag racer. Sure those have more to do with the US and France but the UK did/does have them so they fall into the "things UK has" category.
For Drifblim, I’d say the main reason is about Jules Verne’s book, Around the World in 80 days. Even though he doesn’t take any balloons, it’s always mentioned as having been done with balloons. Also there were some expeditions done especially in the North Pole with hot air balloons.
Here's a question, what's the reason for all pokemon being on earth? The Library in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum says that Pokemon and humans were so close to each other that they married. So did Mew make humans too? And what about the pokemon from space, like clafairy and star u?
For the question of Arceus and Mew being responsible for the creation/existence of humans that would be a yes. As shown by later lore and DYKG?'s original pokedex vids, humans and pokemon have always existed with each other in canon. The theory that humans came from somewhere else is just that a highly unlikely fan theory. As for the space pokemon there is explanations for a few of them. Clerairy line: Came from the Moon, which is connected to Earth. Deoxys: Before becoming a actual pokemon through mutation due to mankind, apparently it was known as a virus. For the rest of the space Pokemon, unlike other Crystal Dragon Jesuses is never really implied or stated that Arceus stopped with Earth. Heck in HGSS he recreates all of reality, just so you can have another Dialga/Palkia/Giratina.
Humans and Pokémon were once indistinguishable from one another, humans could have evolved from some species of Pokémon there. There are a few species not from the Pokémon world's Earth like the Clefairy, Staryu, and I think Beldum lines as well as Minior, Deoxys, maybe even Arceus as it hatched from an egg floating in nothingness. Then there are the ones from other dimensions like the Ultra Beasts, Cosmog's lines and Necrozma, Unown (and wherever Eternatus came from I don't know). Edit: I forgot the Elgyem line, feel free to fill in the gaps of my comment
Gothitelle is there because Whitby in the north of England is host to a huge Goth Festival every year thanks to Whitby being the location Dracula arrived in Britain in the novel
Also some of the inspiration for gothic fashion is Victorian dresses, many of them were black because of victorian traditions about mourning and the biggest icon of victorian mourning dresses is Queen Victoria herself.
I think this is the first time I realized that Beheeyem's body is based on a trenchcoat. It's so obvious now, I can't believe I couldn't see it till now. Also, in reference to Drifblim, dirigibles are a thing, and are almost synonymous with Steampunk, a very Britain-centric subgenre of scifi, among other things. I'd have liked a Galarian Drifblim based on dirigibles, but what can you do.
@Lockstin & Gnoggin the Bisharp line also fits into the "stuff british have" category because of their being based on chess pieces. While the game that would become chess was invented in India sometime during the 8th century, it was heavily modified by the English (after it got to England via the silk road and crusades) so that the board and pieces resembled the classic components of the English Royal Court (and given the name of chess), which is the version we recognize today.
Aromatisse could be in because of it's bird mask, it's kinda similar to plague doctors, although that's just general euroupe, it's more than just a partner for slurpuff
yeah, its especially funny because the famous bird-beaked plague doctor costume is normally attributed (since his writings are the first mentions of it) to Charles de Lorme, The french doctor to the French King Louis XIII during the 1619 Paris Plague outbreak. Which makes it an even better fit for Kalos now that I think about it.....
On the note about the Diggersby line, we do have a theme park named 'Digger Land' which is themed around excavators and building equipment. Could of helped get Diggersby in the game.
For Gothetelle, it's said London invented goth culture and back then witch trials were common thing the England. As for Mincino, I think it is due to look like fasion which UK is known for.
i always wondered why all pokemon werent gonna be in SWSH, but ur videos helped me understand and I actually prefer this choice and hope they do it in future games
Also, for things like turtle types in Galar, check out the invasive species list to see other possible invasive types. Besides reptiles, they really missed out not including Gogoat, since "feral goats" are on that list!
Reasons for some pokemon being in Galar you might consider? Turtonator - minesweeper's both on land and on sea were primarily created and used by the British. Gothitelle - Gothic Lolita was a British thing due to Queen Victoria making Black a fashionable colour to wear (while in mourning she technically also made it the colour for mourning) Bisharp - modern chess is heavily linked to Britain. An English man set up the first modern chess tournament and its also heavily linked to the Crusades like Richard the Lionheart. Mincinno - British are seen a clean freaks and Mincinno is obsessed with dusting. Drifloon - 80 DAYS AROUND THE WORLD
Delibird might be included because of Charles Dickens release of a Christmas carol reaffirmed popularity in Christmas when it was released and is still a classic today in Britain
12:17 There's even an entire short of this, the Warm and Cozy Slugma House. It's on the Japanese PokemonKids channel (English sub) and it's all about how Pokemon help keep a house in order. Given the protagonist's name in Japanese is Anna and the fact she wears a Sizzilpedde scarf leads me to believe that it's set in Galar. The grandparents are former trainers, hence their freaking Haxoros and Unovan Daramaka. I wonder if you can make a video like this for other generations (gen 5 on). Gen 8 is only exceptional for not letting transferred Pokemon that aren't endemic to the region in. There's always been a dex of Pokemon avaible in the games complied from new and old Pokemon
I feel like swsh should have had a new safari zone and that's where all the pokemon in the zoo category should be exclusive to. Or they could be exclusive to the wild area which I'm sure some are
Fun thing about the vanilluxe line that ties them even more to Britain is they were apparently designed by James Turner, a game freak employee from Britain, so technically they’re one of the first British pokemon
I’ve been playing Gen 6 OU on Showdown minutes ago, and I remembered how baffling it is that Skiddo and Gogoat aren’t in the Galar Region. There’s currently over 100,000 goats in the UK!!! It stinks because Skiddo is so cute and Gogoat is a noble, kind-hearted creature with a pretty high base stat total (531) and enough coverage to benefit itself against all the types that would cause it trouble.
You forgot ONE thing. Charizard. Popularity? Yes. Dragon? Yes, but the is another INTERESTING REASON. Charizard is the Main Pokémon of Leon, the Champion of Galar and his rival is Raihan, the Dragon Type Gym Leader of Galar. His main Pokémon is Duraludon, a mecha kaiju and a WHITE DRAGON and Leon, his rival, have RED DRAGON. White Dragon Vs Red Dragon. It's a Arthurian Reference, the Red British Dragon of Uther and Arthur Pendragon VS the White Saxon Dragon.
I personally call BS on the whole counterparts thing. Whimsicott was in the game from the very beginning but it wasn't until the DLC came out that we got its counterpart Lilligant added to the roster. Same thing goes for Shiinotic being in the base game, but not Lurantis. And sure you could argue it's Alolan forms not being the main focus of the roster but Vulpix and Ninetales were still in the base game and thier alolan forms were counterparts to Sandshrew and Sandslash. All of these Pokemon that I'm listing were only made available in the roster once the DLC hit.
I thought Pumpkins were a North American fruit. Gordgeist is more because the Irish invented the Jack O' Lantern (they used turnips though). Also the Clydesdale that Mudsdale is based on is explicitly a Scottish breed of horse. So it's more than just "they have horses".
Turtonator is also Drampa's partner pokemon, so there's also Drampa being very oriental and England bringing over the oriental things. Tyranitar is there purely because of Duraludon.
Aromatisse also might represent the shopping and fashion culture of London. Aromatisse is the fragrance pokémon that of course has a lot to do with perfume. You can of course buy expensive perfumes at luxury stores. London is famous for places like Bond and Oxford street which are full of luxury stores like Burberry, Selfridges and Harrods. London is also one of the fashion capitals of the world.
Beheeyem is probably also because Daleks. It has the same kind of orbs as them on its chest and its color is the same as the revival era Daleks while its pre-evo has a similar color to the Classic era Daleks. And, of course, Doctor Who, which they come from, is a British icon, one of, if not the biggest pop culture export of the country - it certainly makes sense to have *something* there for it.
My belief for Turtonator being in Galar is because it is labeled as Drampa's counterpart. Also, for Cottonee & Whimsicott, they are also in the fae/fairy category.
Delibird: Queen Victoria and the Victorian era established most of what we know see as the "traditional" trappings of Christmas including exchanging wrapped gifts. Hence the Santa/Father Christmas Pokémon in Galar.
Delibird is a birb we heavily associate European robins with Christmas which is also a birb thats also close enough I guess? and besides the stone structure thing for Onix, we do have snakes living here too in the wild hence likely why Onix is there? it is a rock snake though that being said I wish Snivy's line was in the Galar cause we have two species of grass snakes living here (though one isnt native here but it's here regardless) and the genius idea behind Snivy's evolution line may fit our grandpa Charles Darwin
@@zachthemaniac3284 I apologize, I remembered incorrectly. I think I made the misassumption because I've looked at the list that can learn Dragon Dance, and it is one of the few non dragon types that can.
Aromatisse is also a goblin, common Fae creatures in the UK, and also a plague doctor, as the plague was very common in London especially during the 14th and 17th centuries. Also, I still wonder why some Pokémon like Florges and Mismagius weren't anywhere in Galar, not even the DLCs. They would've been perfect! Maybe you could do a video for possible reasons why some Pokémon didn't make it into the region?
Common misconception, Anubis, and therefore anything based on Anubis, actually had a wolf head, not a jackal head. Anubis was inspired by the African Golden Wolf So Lucario is a wolf, not a jackal
Gothitelle could also be there because Lolita fashion, well one specific group of dresses known as classic lolita, is heavily based on Victorian fashion. And comparatively, gothitelle is in a gothic classic dress more then any other group
I feel like a some of them are in galar just since the whole dexit situation happened and some were added for famous priority sake. Like Kommo-o and Vikavolt…. And Ludicolo? At least compared to stuff like Granbull, Murkrow and Druddigon Personally if that dexit didn’t happen, then I feel like the initial regional dex would’ve been at 300 like galar, and then so on with the DLC. I could definitely be wrong though.
accelgor could also be a reference to stock car racing, apparently its design was partly inspired by a stock car race drivers uniform which also became popular in the UK. also the fact that rotom was in the pokedex goes back to a time before benjamin franklin, he was credited as the person who discovered electricity, but he wasnt the first person, apparently a UK physicist, physician and natural philosopher william gilbert was said to have discovered electricity and magnetism.
"Invention" section should have been "Breakthroughs" section that way none of it is a stretch, it would include discoveries, iventions, big improvements on inventions etc. More commenting this for the next video like this if we get a new gen.
I still find it funny that Gamefreak took the time to (mostly) justify all the inclusions, but they forgot about God itself. Or was it intentional? And do I mean Arceus...or Bidoof? Hmm...
I just wanted to add that Mudsdale might not be just there because the UK has horses. It‘s based on the Clydesdale breed of horses, which originates in Scotland.
Wait, did you really skip over the fact that Mudsdale is based on the Clydesdale horses of SCOTLAND? You say that it's "mostly england" but then skip a Scottish reference!
I expect an upcoming update to add the missing Pokémon to SwSh at least, what with the announcement that ranked competition will still be done within them
I'm expecting that BDSP and Legends Arceus will full in most of our holes with their respective dexs. And they'll be Swsh update to connect them. Not like story stuff just a update for the Pokemon transferring. Though that's just a personal theory.
@@BecauseImBatmanFilms it seems pretty likely. It was announced that SwSh would be the competitive scene and that both BDSP and Arceus would get Home updates in February I think. Add that to the fact that SwSh got updates to support new Pokémon even if you didn't buy the DLCs then it seems not just possible but probable that SwSh will be updated with full support with the Home update
Evee specifically might have been included not only for popularity, but for "dog breeding" being a big thing in Britain for a looong time, also Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution, because you know, it's evee
I think an important part of why Rotom is in so many of the new games is due to how prevalent electricity is as a whole in our world now, and Rotom is essentially just that: electricity. I'm sure you could also find some strings between Britain and electricity via Ben Franklin, Edison, or something else I'm missing.
English and Japanese historical culture were simultaneously quite different and eerily similar. If I had a nickle for every time an island country had a history that had feudalism, castles, a warrior class that followed a strict code of honor, tons of weapons of different shapes, and a history of inbreeding that caused genetic problems, I'd have two nickles, which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened twice.

Thanks to Dexit, I'm also doing another complete pokedex so I'll have one for gen 8, and one for gen 7.
Remember, Catch 'em All wasn't a focus since 2001. Ruby and Sapphire didn't let you catch them all either
@@velvetbutterfly From what I know, "Catch 'em all" was never really a focus, since it's the localized slogan, not the slogan they went with in Japan (which may have been more along the lines of "Get Pokémon")

Wait, isn't "twas the night before Christmas" a British poem? That could be why Delibird is in galar
You kmow legends arceus is based on the meiji restoration
How much you wanna bet we'll have some galar stuff in hisui
@@MM80536 Galarian Weezing shaped smokestacks were already revealed and steam power in general definitely came from Galar.
For Drifblim, I’d say the main reason is about Jules Verne’s book, Around the World in 80 days. Even though he doesn’t take any balloons, it’s always mentioned as having been done with balloons. Also there were some expeditions done especially in the North Pole with hot air balloons.
I like how he shows pictures of trees when talking about cotton, despite it growing in a field. I think the pictures are of almond trees
Beheeyem could also be based on Doctor Who, the popular alien character that wears a trench coat.
Yeah or on the DC character John Constantine, who is British, a Magician and wears a trenchoat.
I feel that Rotom also fits with Galar because it's partly based on gremlins, which was a myth that originated in the UK during WW II
Lillie: “I have a Mylotic, I need have beauty near me all time.”
Milotic*
Even with escavalier being a French. It ties into England’s history with William the Conqueror who was French
Could of helped get Diggersby in the game.
the grumpy skull is back! how i've missed him!
oh my goodness he’s back axel is back hell yes he’s so damn amazing and i love this character
Seconded
3:37 kinda disappointed Lockstin didn't take the chance to say "boats GalAR"
Got to mind for the solosis line could be a reference to Dolly the sheep, who was cloned in Scotland tae.
No.
Gothitelle - Gothic Lolita was a British thing due to Queen Victoria making Black a fashionable colour to wear (while in mourning she technically also made it the colour for mourning)
Bisharp - modern chess is heavily linked to Britain. An English man set up the first modern chess tournament and its also heavily linked to the Crusades like Richard the Lionheart.
Mincinno - British are seen a clean freaks and Mincinno is obsessed with dusting.
Drifloon - 80 DAYS AROUND THE WORLD
Imagine if bisharp had an evolution. Depending on gender could be a king or queen. Or based off more chess pieces.
I would love so see a series where you try to figure out what region each Pokémon is “original” from; if you know what I mean.
Avalugg also has the British North and South Pole expeditions going for it, such as the Terra Nova Expedition and Sir James Clark Ross
In regards to the Gothitelle line, you should have mentioned Gothorita since it directly calls the Pokemon "The Witch of Punishment"
"Delibird is Santa, also a worldwide thing."
Me: *coughs in German*
I like the idea Of it
I personally call BS on the whole counterparts thing.
This just really makes me want the next Gen to be based on Australia tbh.
Delibird: Queen Victoria and the Victorian era established most of what we know see as the "traditional" trappings of Christmas including exchanging wrapped gifts. Hence the Santa/Father Christmas Pokémon in Galar.
oh my gosh I just realized that tympoles eyebrows are rotated quarter notes
Delibird is a birb
we heavily associate European robins with Christmas which is also a birb
thats also close enough I guess?
and besides the stone structure thing for Onix, we do have snakes living here too in the wild hence likely why Onix is there? it is a rock snake
though that being said I wish Snivy's line was in the Galar cause we have two species of grass snakes living here (though one isnt native here but it's here regardless) and the genius idea behind Snivy's evolution line may fit our grandpa Charles Darwin
With Onix, Tyranitar, and probably others, they are in the Dragon egg group, so despite not having the type, they are, in fact, dragons.
Onix isn't in the Dragon egg group.
@@zachthemaniac3284 I apologize, I remembered incorrectly. I think I made the misassumption because I've looked at the list that can learn Dragon Dance, and it is one of the few non dragon types that can.
@@damyenhockman5440 No need to apologize. No ones knows every single detail about Pokémon.
@@zachthemaniac3284 but if I didn't acknowledge the mistake, I'd keep getting replies about it, and that can get annoying.
Anubis was inspired by the African Golden Wolf
So Lucario is a wolf, not a jackal
Honestly, golden jackal is actually more closely related to African golden wolf than it is to black backed and side striped jackal
At least compared to stuff like Granbull, Murkrow and Druddigon
Personally if that dexit didn’t happen, then I feel like the initial regional dex would’ve been at 300 like galar, and then so on with the DLC.
I still want to know what the heck happened to the rest of Maxill's skeleton.
3:52 don't forget the Black Plague
Talks about British sideburns.
Shows a picture of ambrose Burnside. An American.
7:33 lockstin uses a picture of the faroese seal woman statue, about the milotic being a siren.
The fact that there is no galarian granbull is a gargantuan missed opportunity
just wanna express my love for all the SNK stage backgrounds used don't know if that was Lockstin or Smoof's idea but i love it
The Santa claus part of Christmas actually comes from a mainly Dutch holiday from late November until 6 December
It would be cool with did a similar video like this for paldea and every subsequent region
I doubt that’s gonna happen, at least not with all the leftovers
24:15 ......... Did .......... did Lockstin just use the "Blue skedooed" jingle from Blues Clues? .........
More than just 2 dawg, think about all the different empires during the time
@@pyrojack8230 are there more countries that fit all those descriptions? If so I'd love more examples
Galapagos tortoises were common food stuffs on long expeditions. They were huge, docile, and lived a long time even with poor to no food. They would just wander around the ship occasionally being eaten.
“The Pokémon actually in Galar have a REASON to be there.”
Yep, and there definitely isn’t any other Pokémon that would fit perfectly in Galar… **looks at Swanna and Snubbull**
Also they could at least let you transfer the Pokémon there, LIKE IN EVERY OTHER POKÉMON GAME.
03:50 that didn't stop the Gen 3 Hoenn games from having Pinsir and Heracross while excluding Scyther.
Will you include the DLC’s in a separate video?
Also I’ve noticed a lot of Gen 5 Pokémon in Galar.
Gothatelle and Reuniclus are also like, partner pokemon which would explain why they are here. One if them fits so they both get in.
"Who needs icecaps" I literally *just* watched a Kurzgesaget video on climate change before this
After all lockstin.
You were, you are right.
It all comes together.
The video, all the infos are great and very informative.
Its crazy how everything is connected to britain.
Even gens befor
Well that was a lot of stretches...
"One time a britsh person said the name of an animal and therefore is completely justified to be there..." or "One time a british person brought this here, therefore a great justification for this pokemon to be here"
Yet pokemon like Nidoran was completely left out of Galar originally (I know they were in the DLC) despite being partially based on rabbits and the evolutions having KING and QUEEN in their names, but oh yeah have Tsarena in there because a british person grew fruit before....
I don’t think so, even if I agree on the Nidoking thing. Plus, they wouldn’t have to push their numbers if people weren’t so mad about the cut Pokédex
Also, gothitelle is the solosis line's counter part
