You can literally run 2 outboard pedals, 2 busses that send to a DAW like ableton to use FX there over USB, and then run 2 further dedicated analogue parallel chains for distortion and compression to blend with the masterbus. Or any one of hundreds of combinations therewithin. It's a ridiculously powerful design, with the way they have incorporated 2 soundcards into one machine along with a serious analogue matrix. TR8 is a drum machine, tr8s is a mixture of synth, rompler and drum machine, many class A electronic artists use TR8, over TR8s( Carl Cox, Kink, etc) just because it's WYSIWYG tool, no menu diving, savings and loadings. TR8 wins with tr8s as a drum machine on every level as it is much better suite for live performance, programming live and tweaking without clicking too many buttons combinations. I had a privilege working with few drum machines, particularly AKAI MPC, from MPC60, through 3000, 3000LE, 4000, and 2500 in last years, and I found TR8 best drum suited for me, for performing music live. Or just for quickly making music, when in the studio, as I need less than 3 min to program sophisticated drum loop with percussions (and tuning bongos takes 80% of that 3 min:). Good luck with TR8s to be as instant and fast....
If you know deeply your samples and patterns the tr8s is a studio workhorse and a better live performing machine. As easy to use first instinct and fun the tr8 wins, i miss the scattering now. I owned both but I cannot change my tr8s with anything else now, when you know every deep secret of it you will be fast in a few years

@@LiamKillenI usually just beat match but I feel it can kind of pigeon hole you to certain genres. It always confused me why sync is such a hurdle for hybrid setups. You'd think a $5-$10k CDJ setup would have clock sync 😂 I started sacrificing a channel on my pioneer mixer and use the roll/loop channel transfer trick for any synths or drum machines that are plugged in. You still have to beat match but at least once the loop is made, it's a bit easier to control from the mixer rather than from multiple sound sources.
When I was going out a lot and a bedroom dj in the late 90's early 00's Mateo Murphy was definitely on my radar. Would love to hear a recent live performance of him with this/similar setup, but I can't seem to find any recent recordings, hope he posts something new on his soundcloud or wherever at some point :) Love the sound of the mixer/filters, reverb and delay (and other fx) being used. Must be a lot of fun to play with.
@@LiamKillen Deadmau5 does this pretty much too. But he only uses Ableton. At least we live in an age were you aren't stuck with cdjs, which are great, but still kind of limiting.
What was that about 8 outs from tr8s? Yeah, but its for tr8ss sounds and 1 stereo for master right? So it cant be compared with this nrilliant mixer. Sorry, but few times you said nonsenses in this video.
Hmm I can't remember exactly what I said and the context, I for sure was not comparing the 8S to the Model 1.4 if that's what you're suggesting here. What I did say is that the 8S is a perfect combination along with the model 1.4 because it has 8 outs (not necesarily got the 8S sounds, because you can use it as an audio interface as well), and the 1.4 has 4 stereo ins - so it's a perfect fit in this case. Hope that clears things up.
@mateomurphy I would love to hear what you think and what you come up with! There's a lot more going on with TR8S and I'm sure for a hybrid DJ setup it could shine in ways I have not imagined
damned, just getting sad, cause i gave my old Echler Smack Mxer away.... never even thought of it's cue out (still have one in my usb mixer, which is einough of course) as an 'aditional' out. But the idea's great, thanks!
@@mateomurphy Are you using balanced DB25 for modular? Is it actually useful? Are there any modules that have a balanced audio path? Are you bringing the signal back to the computer? If so, what is your approach? What interface are you using for Traktor? Thanks
I wish you had discussed syncing. this is really the only reason I clicked on this video. I don't care about the TR-8 or using Cue-B as an additional aux when a "live" mixer with multiple aux sends is probably what you want, etc...
Traktor generates MIDI clock, which is sent out from the audio interface and into the TR8. As for the mixer choice, I don't know of any "live" mixers that have high/low pass filters and stereo aux sends!
Please use high pass on the mic, it is very annoying to here all the handling/table noises, handheld zoom recorders are very bad with isolating that. On the big monitors it is almost impossible to listen to what is going on, in the bass heavy headphones too:)

@@LiamKillen Nice, it's linked with Ableton or is a native tool?
Thanks for your take on this! :-)
AWEsome insight, thank you.
Different strokes for different folks
If you know deeply your samples and patterns the tr8s is a studio workhorse and a better live performing machine. As easy to use first instinct and fun the tr8 wins, i miss the scattering now. I owned both but I cannot change my tr8s with anything else now, when you know every deep secret of it you will be fast in a few years
volevo chiederti all'accensione del mixer tramite pulsante 1/0 nel lato posteriore e' normale che sento un clip in accensione .. specialmente nelle cuffie? hai provato se senti un clip forte in accensione .. grazie per la risposta
I wish I knew what this meant.
Very inspiring! Thanks a lot!

Big time Ferris Bueller vibes @9:19 ... OH YEAH!!!!
Yyiiieesahhhh!!!!!
How you synced the tr8 with traktor?
Planning on doing a video or something on this in the near future.
That model 1.4 is sweet
The best
Yeah, it's good to see demos that aren't from the marketing people of the product who can share WHY they prefer one over the other.
Love the setup 😍
me too! :-)
Anybody have a link to the vacuum Liam uses? There are so many, I wanna get a good one.
The basic ones on Amazon are usually good!
@@LiamKillen Thanks man!
I may have missed it but how is Traktor synced to the TR8 in this setup?
It’s something I’m trying to figure out myself actually
@@LiamKillenI usually just beat match but I feel it can kind of pigeon hole you to certain genres. It always confused me why sync is such a hurdle for hybrid setups. You'd think a $5-$10k CDJ setup would have clock sync 😂 I started sacrificing a channel on my pioneer mixer and use the roll/loop channel transfer trick for any synths or drum machines that are plugged in. You still have to beat match but at least once the loop is made, it's a bit easier to control from the mixer rather than from multiple sound sources.
It's synced via Traktor sending midi clock out the audio interface and into the TR8, it's a little tricky to set up though!
When I was going out a lot and a bedroom dj in the late 90's early 00's Mateo Murphy was definitely on my radar.
Would love to hear a recent live performance of him with this/similar setup, but I can't seem to find any recent recordings, hope he posts something new on his soundcloud or wherever at some point :)
Love the sound of the mixer/filters, reverb and delay (and other fx) being used. Must be a lot of fun to play with.
I have a few recent sets that I should upload soon!
😊
How can you use an analog mixer with traktor pro?
You have to get an audio interface involved 😊
very inspiring, thanks !
🍻
Is this how Overmono does it live ? They have the best live set in all of edm at the moment.
I’m not 100% sure! It’s got a Richie Hawtin - ish approach though
Could I connect a bulcha easel to this set up?
I don't see why not ! Also if you have other gear questions, hit up my Discord ! :-)

Nice one!!!
Thanks! :-)
My man said “update your TR-S!” 😂😂😅
😂
I've always wanted to know how this type of setup actually works. Very Richie Hawtin style.
Yes def inspired by him
@@LiamKillen Deadmau5 does this pretty much too.
Hope that clears things up.
...as soon as i sell my TR8, I see it here! Ahg! It is the superior version to the TR8S for performance overall from a design perspective imo
I still thing the 8s is better in every way but yeah I can see why people still love the tr 8
@LiamKillen cheers man. 8s is most definitely is the superior gear overall in my opinion. I feel I found something special about playing the OG.
@@NikoNoxious Liam convinced me to try the TR-8S, I'm looking forward to comparing the two!
Thx for watching! 😊
isnt 4 channels too limited for live set?
It is limited for sure. Mateo has the Model 1 which has 6. I'm ok with the 1.4 for now though :-)
@@LiamKillen just bought the model 1 :]
What module is that I/O on the synth rack?
Hopefully Mateo will see this message
NW2S io !
@@mateomurphy Are you using balanced DB25 for modular? Is it actually useful? Are there any modules that have a balanced audio path? Are you bringing the signal back to the computer? If so, what is your approach? What interface are you using for Traktor? Thanks
eurorack case name ?
Ummmm something from intelijel I think?
Intellijel 7U performance case
I wish you had discussed syncing. this is really the only reason I clicked on this video. I don't care about the TR-8 or using Cue-B as an additional aux when a "live" mixer with multiple aux sends is probably what you want, etc...
Traktor generates MIDI clock, which is sent out from the audio interface and into the TR8. As for the mixer choice, I don't know of any "live" mixers that have high/low pass filters and stereo aux sends!
Thx for this I actually didn’t know
Mateo’s gotchu
@@mateomurphy thank you
Plays Kink during the transition segment; my kind of DJ.
Yo, s/o to your guest. Dude really has it dialed in.
So that’s why I got demonitized 😂
He’s the best - Mateo Murphy!
Check his music in the description
It looks like someone tried to replicate my setup without actually being broke
It's taken me a long time to get there! Thanks for watching :)

dude talked things on 1.4 like those Tractor scratch had 10+ years before 😂
It ain’t the same though
I like y Drum machine dirty
😏
Mix wise, invest in a de-esser, it gets so 4k-y. So brutally harsh in high end. That's doing damage to people's ears live
You mean the music ? Or our voices ? Lol
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Please use high pass on the mic, it is very annoying to here all the handling/table noises, handheld zoom recorders are very bad with isolating that. On the big monitors it is almost impossible to listen to what is going on, in the bass heavy headphones too:)
Yeah I did that in post - did teh best that I could given the circumstances ! Thanks for watching :-)
You are taking ‘tone police’ to a completely new level 😂 Touch grass!

@@LiamKillen all that gear and it sounds very thin and basic....daw might be needed. FX might be needed. Actually using the modular effectively would be nice. Not a lot going on here. Very basic hihats / little loop things.
Then I put Joaquin Claussell right next to him with 2 decks and a DJR 400 and he makes this guy quite and dump all this fancy shmancy gear in the bin.Not one word about vocals.
It's not a competition
What? Lol
For real

Nice setup, shame about the music...
Tommeke me sad now 😢
Why would anyone use an octatrack as a performance mixer when you could just use a simple sampler and a dj mixer with FX?
Reach out to EZ Bot with that question - I’m sure he’d have a great answer lol
prolly cuz the octatrack is cool af
