I discovered that weird DT trick also. I was trying to parameter lock sounds while sequencing it with a Cirklon and then discovered it would only play the locks when I held down the trig..
This series is amazing. Seeing more and more of the Torso T-1. Very attracted to that for structured randomisation, if that's a reasonable way of describing it.
When I really watched some videos on the Torso T1 I was sold pretty quick. It has such a well thought out workflow, and the workflow is super quick. The amount of buttons and knobs it has is deceiving in regards to its functionality, and speed. I see it kind of like a meal at a prestigious restaurant. It may have less ingredients, but thats only due to the fact that the chef has spent their life working towards perfecting an idea using the least ingredients as possible as not to overwhelm the guest but to exceed their expectations.
"Nothing too advanced through the expertise of you two gentlemen" thank you for sharing ... This video brings to mind a quote from the original Star Trek series of 1966 ... I have a question about speakers for a set-up like this. What kind of speakers would you use for this? Let's say you wanted to perform live in small spaces like apartments and intimate venues, maybe the occasional outdoor space - what kind of speakers make sense for that?
I'm hoping for your expert assistance in choosing between the digitone 2 and the hydrasynth desktop for my dawless setup. Thank you for all your videos!
Hmmm it really depends on what you're looking for ! Both great sound design tools - The D2 is very FMey sounding though (because it's an FM synth lol).
Yeah check that video out for sure, its a bit longer than it needs to be and i will probably do another, but absorb that one and hit me up if you want to chat more about it.
I wonder how the Launchcontrol sends messages to the nanobox. That thing could have been the perfect low budget midi controller but novation didn't care to put a goddamn midi out😑
Yes it's funny how something so useful is so uncommon. I have a kenton midi host for simple usb-5pin midi conversion, and for more complex situations I have the retrokits RK006 which has 2 midi in, and 10 midi out. It uses mini jacks but still an amazing solution to so many midi needs, and it's tiny.
Awesome music Parts Project! How is audio routed, is there a mixer off camera or just everything going thru the Digitakt and the Blackbox? @LiamKillen love these videos I’m always learning so much!
Ah yes midi. In this case we've got T-1 going to DT, then THRU to Minilogue, so its sequencing both. Since minilogue has no THRU, T-1's second midi out is clocking the Blackbox, and also sequencing some of it's tracks. The launch control XL is just plugged directly into the blackbox via it's dedicated usb 2.0 input.
I don't agree, I have a ton of ambient albums where there are drums. Ambient style is very wide: dark ambient, electro ambient, ... A very good example is the fantastic global communication 76:14 album or HIA freefloater (another great album)
If the only things playing on the grid are the drums, with the rest being ambient and off the grid, is it still ambient? I tend to like the contrast of sliding ambient music around a straight beat. For me it still holds the ambient flavour. Like another part of life in the real world. Sometimes there is structure, sometimes there isn't.
I mean, grab a Roland Gaia, make a drone patch and twist knobs as you record for as long as you want it to be. Add a few layers if you want and key changes, you can do it with almost anything, definitely don’t need all the gear you showed in your thumbnail, though I’m sure your sponsors appreciate it. #endgas
It’s the difference between performing with something that gives you what you want / need vs being super limited by doing it all in one unit. Limits are great for creativity but again when you’re getting into live stuff it’s pretty fun to “build an instrument” with several units. There are no wrong answers! Also, the sponsor of this video has nothing to do with gear #lol
Looks it’s not your fault your videos cause G.A.S. I just want to buy everything anyways lol, also I understand and mostly agree with what you are saying. Mostly you should use what ever you want or have to make what ever you want with only the limitations you want, it’s your art/music. I use various equipment types myself to produce a variety of music, I guess my only point is you don’t have to necessarily. Also I am usually more impressed by artist that have less to work with, those limits force creativity.
The workflow, raaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! This is not making music, it's making ambient sounds with a bunch of little machines full of buttons and menus...... Something else I guess and very technical...

These live setup videos give such a useful view into how musicians work with systems of gear. Love them.
Lots more lined up ready to go! 😊
Love those videos with artists explaining their setup and their workflow. ❤
Me too! It’s like I’m part of the audience! Much more to come
Liam these collab videos are SO GOOD. Really informative and interesting. Thank you!
Lllots more to come!

Yes! All Elektron units have that “bug”

It surely is! We actually did another one on the t-1 + digitakt 2 … that should be really fun
Might be my fav setup of the series, nice!
I’ve got one more with Allan - should be out within the month 😊

It’s a beastly lil piece for sure
Love this. I have all the same gear except the minilogue. Curious about the audio and midi routing! thx
Hit up Partsproject on insta ! He might be interested in discussing it with you :-)

The new aiaiai wireless studio speakers are actually pretty great for this but it really depends on how loud you’d wanna go
@@LiamKillen Cool, I'll check them out. Thanks for responding. Cool video btw!

I guess I should also include the polyend synth to that list. Have you messed with it yet?
hey man great video! just a quick uestion. How do you connect Novation Launch Control to this setup? Usb Midi host?
I wish Alain was here to answer! Maybe DM him on insta! I linked his profile in the description
You can connect it directly to the Black and Blue boxes and MIDI map on the fly
The blackbox has a dedicated standard type A usb in, so no need for a host, and it has midi learn. I wish all gear had this.
Dude that was super cool.
Appreciate you watching!
Whoa I need a video explains the digitkat scene thing he was doing ig owned one for nearly 5 years and have never seen that!
I made one on my channel. A bit longer than it needs to be, but the info is there!
Check out partsproject’s channel! He’s got the goods over there
Yeah check that video out for sure, its a bit longer than it needs to be and i will probably do another, but absorb that one and hit me up if you want to chat more about it.
Awe video i havent been using my xd i may try a set up like this
Glad it’s inspiring you!
THIS was awesome! :-D And inspiring! :)
Thx for watching! 😊
Lovely setup. You could do a lot with the T-1's CC mode creating some random sequences for parameters on the XD.
Absolutely! We actually did another video w/ the t-1 and Digitakt 2 - should be out soon!
The CC mode is something I am very much looking forward to implementing, as well as getting CV involved between T1 and MXD. So much to do.
@liamkillen - where did you get that vaccuum???
Check out opolar air blower on Amazon!
Sick
My guy

Unless its like 1-2 beat per 16. Like a heart beat thump.
I love heart beats.

It’s a pleasure! In terms of the audio routing I suggest hitting up Alain’s insta! Linked in the description
Amazing 👌
Thx for watching!
I’m curious of the signal flow….
Hit up Alain on his insta maybe!
@@LiamKillen im not on instagram unfortunately. does he look at your discord? i could join that!
Minilogue xd through blackbox through digitakt through boum.
@@partsproject so is the minilogue the master and everything slaves to it? what about the midi chain?

So many people ask me about it I should include an Amazon link lol
@@LiamKillenYes please 😊
Nice hack for the Digitakt and they left they feature in vs nerfing it.
I was so surprised! Like it’s not even in the manual! 🤯
Babe, the new Liam Killen vid just dropped!
🏃♂️ 👀 🖥️
Yo yo! 🔥setup here
Alain kills it- thx for watching!
Hmmmm Liam sounds like a Minecraft villager ❤️
Really? 😂
@@LiamKillen you said “hmm” a lot! And I’ve been playing too much Minecraft today…😂👌
Only a child would know what that sounds like
imo if a set has drums it's not ambient. dope live setup all the same. just my 2c.
Fair take fair take
Very correct, by literal definition it can’t be ambient…
Not necessarily. A lot of stuff on the Fax Label used drums/percussion but more for accent than a straight up drum track.
I don't agree, I have a ton of ambient albums where there are drums. Ambient style is very wide: dark ambient, electro ambient, ... A very good example is the fantastic global communication 76:14 album or HIA freefloater (another great album)

The OTO Boom is such a good compressor, I love mine
Yeah it’s really intriguing!
Their other units seem simple and high qual as well!
Ok, so first thing I'm going to do 🔫
Pull the trigger on the desktop Minilogue xd? 🔫 😏
They are nice, but there's an Ambika clone on my list

It’s kind of all relative- very technical for sure. Definitely still music 😉
Mick's maxim: art/music is anything that is presented as, or perceived to be, art/music. Thereafter it's merely a question of taste.
Dude, Ambient is most definitely music
