Necrons are looking spicy going into 10th! Edit: the Contemptor had two profiles in 9th: the basic codex one and the imperial armour relic contemptor. The Codex contemptor was also based on the crappy Calth plastic kit that thankfully got replaced. So it’s just the forgeworld rules one that is getting cut. For my contemptors, thankfully my resin contemptor is already legal but my other one I’ll be proxying as a ven dread.
I never wrote in my 5th edition space marine codex but I also remember bringing it to school and reading it. I read that book and used it so much it actually fell apart before 6th edition. I remember when 6th was coming out I said “Oh good I need a new codex” and my friend responded “No you don’t your rules are fine”. I responded by holding up by crumbling codex and he than understood.
It's better to get the smaller boxes that are the actual starter sets if you're just trying or starting. Even though these limited launch box sets are large savings, they aren't starter friendly imo, they may come with less, but the boxes are significantly less of an investment
Can't wait for mine to arrive. I almost ordered the Tyranid Combat Patrol before Leviathan was announced but this is a much better deal at $80 ($160 for the entire box)
We have to be getting a Tyranid Kill Team in the upcoming season, with Tyranid’s getting such a big model refresh for 10th edition, so I’m sure there will be a unit of models that people really want to see updated, that will be the Kill Team, maybe even see it go the way of the Necrons, and be a mixed bag Kill Team with a new Lictor model as a leader?
There is rumours about a assault terminator vs genestealers box (or it could be space hulk redo...I'll take either) it would fit the current mo of non-1st kill team boxes being an upgrade sprue vs new mold team.
@@petermartin9224 That rumour has been recycled for more than a year. When Into the Dark was introduced, lot of people reckoned it would have Genestealers vs Terminators. I don't think there's any reason to assume it at this point

I feel like the death leaper’s cape is meant to obscure its movements and make it silhouette harder to read, At least his legs. That would be its function in universe, at least.

The really big slap in the face for the relic dreads and HH stuff (beyond probably tanking 30k sales) is that they give Space Marines relic contemptors (the crappy version) and relic Termies, but CSM don't get either one or a regular drop pod. My conspiracy theory is that because drop pods and the relic stuff (that CSM would super have and have in lore in great quantity) is because they specifically don't say CSM on the box, I think if the CSM land raider and CSM predators and rhinos didn't have the box that says CSM and have the specific upgrade sprue, is because they are officially a Space marine kit and their sales department doesn't want you to mess up their sales metrics by buying Space Marine stuff for CSM.
I feel at least half of 30k purchases were done for 40k. I’m glad I didn’t go down there. The reason the contemptor stuck around is because they sold a different plastic contemptor for years that’s a garbage kit with limited options. I guess if you already have the 30k one you can sort of build it like those rules. I imagine it’ll disappear at some point for space marines.
30k is the game you go when you get tired of 40k but you’re not tired of GamesWorkshop still. Here in south Florida we always get matches, a lot of stores always have people playing it

Technically second big bundle box (I got assault on black reach for Christmas when I was like 11 but never painted them after building them) but my first time being here for a new edition launch after starting last august. Painting up a hive tyrant as hive fleet leviathan practice and also my first big unit (only done kill teams and terrain so far) and it's some of the most fun I've ever had painting. Very excited to get stuck into Leviathan next weekend!
Yes I mark my book up, put chapter labels for quick reference, but I put the changes in location, so I always have change pages falling out. Will have figure that out one day or not.
painting sisters is so cool: they have so many details, even the humble battle sister squad, that it takes a while, but once finished, they look so cool, even if you don't have too much excperience (like me)
My local GW store (in the UK) said they're getting about fifty boxes on top of the pre-orders. The warehouse all the boxes were in must have been heaving!

I remember when Army Painter dip hit the market and one of the guys at the game store talked about using a drill to spin off the mini lol. Old lore. It was definitely for efficiency and people that just wanted playable game pieces. Wash and seal all in one. All you had to do was hit the mini with primer and a dry brush and itd give you the 3 color requirement for tournaments.
"way back in the day" oof that comment made my back hurt. Actually those dips are what the army painter started with. I still have a can of them they work really well for what they do.
lol i used minwax polyshades tudor satin on my 4th ed nids. glued minis to upside down clear plastic flight bases to spin off in a box using a drill just like you said.
Having started with 9th edition, I had fun with it but at times found it a bit complicated when mustering armies as a beginner. But 10th is looking to be more friendly towards us that are new to the hobby. Excited to see how it turns out
Speaking of showing off photos of the models that are being dicussed, you should totally have Nick put some other reference photos place in whenever you are going over minatures you may be talking about. An example would be the old leaper :)
One thing I can confirm is my local shops and WH stores all were able to get tons more versus the Indomitus set so i think folks will be quite surprised seeing these on shelves for at least a couple weeks. If they were to do a made to order event, I would think we wouldnt see one until after folks have gotten their boxes at the minimum

As well as the Space Marine Deredo dreadnaught, just got one and now it's ruleless.

Yeah, every time you see one of these “versus” boxes, it’s a limited window product. Every ~3 years they do a big boy like this, and in the interim they sporadically do smaller versus boxes that are still discounted. I want to say there were 4-5 of them in the last 3 years. If you want the leviathan box, I know a few places that sell online that still have one at the fair asking price
eBay has them going for fair price, and Chaosorc has some. The website is kinda ancient but they are legit and one of my secret stashes for finding limited or discontinued products well past their sold out date.
While I’m waiting for the Leviathan release, I’ve been hunting for existing Tyranids that I want to fill out my new army. I also plan to buy some duplicate units from Leviathan when the solo boxes are (expected to be) released in August. I understand that GW wants to keep the focus on 10e’s launch, but I hope that soon after Leviathan’s release, they’ll provide info about what’s coming in August. With the new Termagants and Van Ryan’s Leapers more or less replacing Lictors, I don’t want to buy Tyranid products that could be updated in 10e, so I’m being selective about what I buy. I have a Hive Tyrant, 3 Warriors, 3 Zoanthropes, and a Maleceptor, which are ~700 points. Leviathan’s Tyranids are estimated at ~1000 points. I’m planning to buy 20 more Termagaunts, 5 more Barbgaunts, and 3 more VR Leapers, which should get me to 2000. I think that’s a solid starting army for a new Tyranids player.
Able to get last copy at my LGS sucks they didn't get more copies. Apparently they also only got 1 pre order bonus per 3 boxes and they only got about a dozen or two. Kinda sucks for them IMO
Am also starting Tyranids for 10th! Dropping off of chaos for a while to take on a simpler painting challenge. Nothing feels better then seeing these bugs get painted to 75-80% in half the time of chaos due to lack of trim
Please do an army painter quickshade video. I use it on my necrons and it gives them a really old and grungy look. Not a fan on ultramarines though but it would be cool to see you try it out on various models.
I would love a FULL SHEET of each chapter or a whole bunch of other factions. would be great for terrain, customization, etc. Finding decals online is not TOO hard, but getting good white decals is hard to find bc most printers do not print white.
Hellblasters are banging for Dark Angels. Weapons of the dark age, overcharge with a captain nearby for rerolls is just lethal. They’ll essentially be my battle line in 10th
I mean, based on the lore of Deathleaper we know it has a personally, or can at the very least come up with a scheme to provide maximum mental damage to their opponents. A cape to sort of mimic an enemy human leader, while very visibly not being human, seems like something it would do. Regarding model of the year it's probably gonna be Angron or The Lion, but it should be Deathleaper or that Plague horse guy for AoS
What you described with more "3d" decals is pretty much what Gunpla does, except they use stickers. Would be interesting to see how that translates to decals and smaller models!
I’m a big fan of Army Painter Strong Tone. I bought a bunch of those pre-painted Wiz Kids minis for D&D that look pretty bad gave them a wash of Strong Tone and they looked magnitudes better.
I wish they made Combat Patrols for Nids with melee swarm with ranged monsters, and ranged swarm with melee monsters. Making two additional with full on melee and full on ranged would be nightmare to manage, but I guess you can at least write them down on the lists of Combat Patrols that you can play with.
You HAVE to do the MISSle launcher marines :), just as a display on off lol. I have been a fan of the lictors, I played ALOT during 3 and 5 editions and more than once I had opponents not leave their deployment zones due to these monsters.
Codex writing: I generally don’t write directly on it, but I’ll write on post it’s and place them in the book. The rules change enough I don’t want to errata something and then have to undo. That would be awkward
Those new launcher space marines look much less ridiculous in person then they did in pictures. And leviathan dreadnaughts? Man, they are scary as fuck on the table.
They made millions, we know that they can make profit from selling the boxes at half the price because that’s what they sell it to retail stores for, so if they made 10 million then at least 5 million of that is profit for this 1 box set, this will bump up the yearly profit margins, which will mean they will be pushing for more profits from next month because we know they need to make more money next financial year than this financial year to keep the shareholders happy 😞 its only gonna make more stuff more expensive, more rulebook, more models in big expensive boxes 😪

I’m honestly upset. I wanted the Leviathan box set for Father’s Day, and my pleb family didn’t have the foresight to jump into the esoteric short window of opportunity for preorder. My birthday and my son’s birthday that is into Tyrannid is coming up, too, and that makes me further upset that I can’t get the new box with the new sculpts for the army he loves that we work on together as father and son time. I just don’t understand why GW continually undersells its products. The last two Kill Team boxes were the same issue for me! Gallowfall and the new Inquisition box are nowhere to be found, and I refuse to pay $300 for each on eBay. OK, rant done. I bet a lot of other folks feel this way too. 😢
I used the Army Painter mid tone wash on my Skaven Blood Bowl team, and I think it looks pretty good. If they are going to do a made to order of something, I'd rather see the Ashes of Faith Kill Team set. I don't have any interest in either the Tyranids or Space Marines.
i want to like the deathleaper. on its own it’s really cool, but as a tyranid it just feels weird. it breaks a lot of the tyranid design rules by adding an additional limb, and moving the arms from the chest onto a like backpack, and the cap i feel makes it look too humany which would be fine for a genestealer cult dude but for hivefleet nids it just makes him feel off to me
They are replacing the Tyranid combat patrol. I know this because games workshop is no longer selling the combat patrol for nids. They are also not selling the older termagaunts and the old deathleaper
my local games store has 5 leviathan boxes and they put one in reserve so that i could purchase it later. my birthday is coming up and im excited to unleash my space marines and squash the tyranid in the name of the holy god emperor
About t30K some have speculated it was just a cash grab as they have bearly kept up the line since. As if the VS box was your way into 30K you'll be missing major units to play and they have no time line to be out. So yeah it's only dead because GW had no intention of it living.
My local Spar grocery store (🇬🇧) stocks Warhammer and and has the Leviathan boxes in stock 😂 Ironically, I’m not even interested in buying one! Please don’t be mad haha.

As much as I love the Death Leaper, for my Farsight should be Miniature of the year. I don't even like Tau that much but that mini is outstanding.

We have very similar taste Jay. I have a massive black Templar/imperium army. Necrons and planning to do my Nids on Creep© maybe Tiamat hive. My codex aren't written on but my older ones are real worn from carrying it everywhere I went

I’m planning to buy 20 more Termagaunts, 5 more Barbgaunts, and 3 more VR Leapers, which should get me to 2000. I think that’s a solid starting army for a new Tyranids player.
my local gw store has 30 boxes in the store for the 24th.
Able to get last copy at my LGS sucks they didn't get more copies. Apparently they also only got 1 pre order bonus per 3 boxes and they only got about a dozen or two. Kinda sucks for them IMO
Am also starting Tyranids for 10th! Dropping off of chaos for a while to take on a simpler painting challenge.
Nothing feels better then seeing these bugs get painted to 75-80% in half the time of chaos due to lack of trim
Please do an army painter quickshade video. I use it on my necrons and it gives them a really old and grungy look. Not a fan on ultramarines though but it would be cool to see you try it out on various models.
I would love a FULL SHEET of each chapter or a whole bunch of other factions. would be great for terrain, customization, etc. Finding decals online is not TOO hard, but getting good white decals is hard to find bc most printers do not print white.
Hellblasters are banging for Dark Angels. Weapons of the dark age, overcharge with a captain nearby for rerolls is just lethal.

I mean, based on the lore of Deathleaper we know it has a personally, or can at the very least come up with a scheme to provide maximum mental damage to their opponents. A cape to sort of mimic an enemy human leader, while very visibly not being human, seems like something it would do.
Regarding model of the year it's probably gonna be Angron or The Lion, but it should be Deathleaper or that Plague horse guy for AoS

What you described with more "3d" decals is pretty much what Gunpla does, except they use stickers. Would be interesting to see how that translates to decals and smaller models!
I’m a big fan of Army Painter Strong Tone. I bought a bunch of those pre-painted Wiz Kids minis for D&D that look pretty bad gave them a wash of Strong Tone and they looked magnitudes better.
Warhammer and FLG stores will have loads of copies on launch day which is awesome for everyone who missed out on there preorder.

I wish they made Combat Patrols for Nids with melee swarm with ranged monsters, and ranged swarm with melee monsters.
Making two additional with full on melee and full on ranged would be nightmare to manage, but I guess you can at least write them down on the lists of Combat Patrols that you can play with.
You HAVE to do the MISSle launcher marines :), just as a display on off lol. I have been a fan of the lictors, I played ALOT during 3 and 5 editions and more than once I had opponents not leave their deployment zones due to these monsters.
I keep my books as near mint as possible. But I get wanting to do the writing and highlighting, like you would a textbook

Codex writing: I generally don’t write directly on it, but I’ll write on post it’s and place them in the book. The rules change enough I don’t want to errata something and then have to undo. That would be awkward

Those new launcher space marines look much less ridiculous in person then they did in pictures. And leviathan dreadnaughts? Man, they are scary as fuck on the table.

They made millions, we know that they can make profit from selling the boxes at half the price because that’s what they sell it to retail stores for, so if they made 10 million then at least 5 million of that is profit for this 1 box set, this will bump up the yearly profit margins, which will mean they will be pushing for more profits from next month because we know they need to make more money next financial year than this financial year to keep the shareholders happy 😞 its only gonna make more stuff more expensive, more rulebook, more models in big expensive boxes 😪

I’m honestly upset. I wanted the Leviathan box set for Father’s Day, and my pleb family didn’t have the foresight to jump into the esoteric short window of opportunity for preorder. My birthday and my son’s birthday that is into Tyrannid is coming up, too, and that makes me further upset that I can’t get the new box with the new sculpts for the army he loves that we work on together as father and son time. I just don’t understand why GW continually undersells its products. The last two Kill Team boxes were the same issue for me! Gallowfall and the new Inquisition box are nowhere to be found, and I refuse to pay $300 for each on eBay. OK, rant done. I bet a lot of other folks feel this way too. 😢

I used the Army Painter mid tone wash on my Skaven Blood Bowl team, and I think it looks pretty good.
If they are going to do a made to order of something, I'd rather see the Ashes of Faith Kill Team set. I don't have any interest in either the Tyranids or Space Marines.

i want to like the deathleaper. on its own it’s really cool, but as a tyranid it just feels weird. it breaks a lot of the tyranid design rules by adding an additional limb, and moving the arms from the chest onto a like backpack, and the cap i feel makes it look too humany which would be fine for a genestealer cult dude but for hivefleet nids it just makes him feel off to me

They are replacing the Tyranid combat patrol. I know this because games workshop is no longer selling the combat patrol for nids. They are also not selling the older termagaunts and the old deathleaper
my local games store has 5 leviathan boxes and they put one in reserve so that i could purchase it later. my birthday is coming up and im excited to unleash my space marines and squash the tyranid in the name of the holy god emperor
About t30K some have speculated it was just a cash grab as they have bearly kept up the line since. As if the VS box was your way into 30K you'll be missing major units to play and they have no time line to be out. So yeah it's only dead because GW had no intention of it living.
