Her comment at the end warmed my heart-the feeling of compassion for the separate sense of self is so precious ❤️ All of us can have a difficult time letting go of things that weren’t what we first thought them to be: Relationships, hopes, fantasies. Compassion for this can sometimes be a barrier, however. Rupert consistently demonstrates skillfulness and patience in helping people release into their true nature 😊

@@TCGill I often wouldn't actively encourage the aid of entheogenics, but in this specific manner they tend to do damn wonders. Let's say psilocybe mushrooms. It's a powerful medicine to realign internal belief systems and the emotional stresses and thought patterns that everybody gets clogged up with.
It's like a heart sized tangled ball of string get's loosened up by the medicine and by that itself, simple loops and underpasses of string get untangled just by releasing the tension binding them, if you know what I mean. But then also as it comes loose, one can consciously look into it and actively untangle some the actually knotted mess.
Often in the afterglow there is just simple silence, and presence. Internal understanding, acceptance. You'll know what to do and how to be, naturally without thinking about it.
Just research how to correctly approach the medicine and respect it (even if some accounts regarding it did not).

you don't need to look for "I" since it is " I " causing you to look. There is a Buddhist saying that goes, " be careful of what you are looking for, for what you are looking for is causing you to look."

That is the ultimate realisation. However this practice gets the mind to shift to that awareness. Thr mind could easily take your words as a belief and say "oh, well i guess theres no need to look", Nd stop the process of self-realisation. It is a process for the human, even though consciousness is always just here now.

If the jolly good-natured lady didn’t laugh so hard, I could almost see Rupert walk off the stage, shaking his head and saying, “I give up.”
Rupert is one of the kindest people on this planet, but he does require his students to present with some degree of logic in his process of tracing them backwards to reality.
When people are unable to follow the simple bread crum path, after he placed the bread crumbs so meticulously, well he is just so fun to watch, because he displays his frustration in such a proper, gentle, English, at-wit’s end manner. The levity rivals a good English sitcom.
Rupert’s reaction to having compassion for a snake who is not there, floored me. Especially since I felt it coming before his reaction. I started laughing, wondering how he would react. I just burst into laughter.

I'ts very interesting and poignant what this lady said in the end about the compassion for this sense of individual self, i myself felt that and understood it exactly as she did, it is a sense of compassion sadness and love for your "self", i do understand that in the heart of it is actually the life long attachment to this temporary sense of individual i, yet i believe it's a legitimate and meaningful phase in the process. i really love and appreciate Rupert very much but sometimes it looks like his process of self discovery as genuine as it is was somewhat more intellectual and he may not have gone trough some of the more emotional phases that some of us go trough, it's not a criticism on Rupert it's just that we are all wired differently and our processes are different accordingly, there are things we have to go trough by ourselves and no teacher will have all the answers for us and it's fine, peace.

While the message of 'you do not exist' may seem liberating and revolutionary at first, it's important to approach this type of teaching with caution. Neo-Advaita often lacks nuance and can be misleading, leading people to deny the reality of their own experiences and feelings. Remember that you are a complex being with a unique perspective, and your sense of self is a crucial aspect of your human experience. Instead of trying to negate or bypass it, it's often more helpful to explore and integrate it in a healthy and balanced way, and explore it's preciousness as sacred, beautiful, and worthy of healing and celebrating. And to see it as a REAL expression of the divine, the formless, the ground of Being, etc.

Nobody can deny their experience of being and feeling completely and on the contrary, we have a general overestimation of our own importance. Because of this it's probably better to cut through it all with negation to become available and truly effective and without the delusion of the finite self. We have already slid all the way down the slippery slope into the abyss of self-centeredness. Perhaps there's a better way, trusting in the infinite to run this so-called life. ...but idk.

I think the lack of perspective on the "no self" teaching, and the failure of spiritual teachers to point out the differences in the way it is used in Eastern religion and Western culture is a detriment to many.
    Why:
The debate or idea that their is not a separate self is really not a practical idea if you are trying to resolve trauma or past issues. (Many seekers want relief and liberation from the effects of trauma.) In my opinion, it is a good way to avoid accountability for ones experience and the need to engage the self and solve personal problems and issues. Spiritual bypassing: There is no me, noone has a problem, why bother working with my ego/self and looking at the past from which these thoughts are arising- when I don't exist. really??? Think about the implication and impractical usage of this concept. Whoa! I'll stick with psychology and "self" reflective techniques that don't dissasociate me from reality.

I will try if I got it right. Awareness plays the "game of many" (people, animals, plants etc.) while it remains one. People believe they think thoughts, choose thoughts/concepts or actions, decide, do this or that, love one or the other, but in reality only Awareness is doing this while masquerading behind all those masks we call humans/animals etc. The separate self believes he/she has free will.
One the most powerful and scary ideea coming from non-duality is that the we dont control or generate our thoughts, they come from "outside" and we think its our doing and take credit for them. Which is funny and sad at the same time.

To get close, what you refer to as yourself, is a collection of memories, emotions, thoughts, and feelings. These are all sensations that take place in the space of your mind, the same place where ideas, creativity, imagination take place. Most individuals see thought as there own self. If looked at close enough, in a relaxed, open state of just resting, sitting, observing without the need to question or recieve an answer, lije one would watch a sun set over a hill or on the shore of a beach, one begins to see that thought is not actually what they are, but a collection of "echoes" that come and go through the space of the mind, like clouds floating through the sky. When you notice this, there is a realization that takes place, that thought does not necessarily belong to you. You are just used to identifying it as yourself as it pops up in your head. In actuality, you are a witness to thought, an observer to it's comming and going. Like when you are listening to music, your mind is simply a silent space of existing expanse through which sensation, information, and energy pass through, and like a mirror, mind makes an image by reflecting these outward through the body. This is what is ment by the saying "life is an illusion" as we believe as we are told, that we are thought in a body, or a soul in a material form. Really, we are all that same experience of open space of the mind, the sensation we all have in common, and everything that passes through us, is a form of energy, that the mind perceives as form and existence, the world around you. Hope this gives some insight, wish you well and invite you to explore more of your fascinations with this phenomenon if it is of interest👍

Both are one and the same thing though, two halves, like sound and the silence between. Where i used to attempt to force a discipline or understanding, now i just rest and relax when i get caught up in the intensity of the world, and in that relaxing and letting things be as they are, the mind simply just comes to the surface, and thought dissipates in its intensity. When i relax in what is happening, regardless of the circumstance, the storm dissolves, and the mind, like a clear view of the sky is free to pour in and be as it is.
