Matthew Perry is not on that list, he is funny, no question, but he's not up there with Billy Crystal, Leslie Nielsen, Jim Carrey and so on. Not only that, but they actually weren't hired to do this cameo at all. They happened to be in the building while they were taping for the show and decided to drop in unannounced. They just intruded on this scene and improv'd the whole thing in one take. You can tell the cast had no idea what was going on by their uncomfortable reactions and dead set attempt at going through with the scripted scene. Neither Billy nor Robin thought the show's producers were actually going to air the scene, they figured there'd be another take and what would air would be what was planned and this bit would end up in the gag reel or something, but because they managed to improv it so well in one go and the cast didn't break character, the producers just used it.
I love the glance back by Crystal at the end. He carried the character through the scene. He is awesome. There are genius comedians in this scene that we miss, but he is one we joyfully still have with us.
This makes me wonder, was Monica scripted to forget or did Courtney actually forget her lines. I mean being on set with two icons would cause ANYONE to get rattled.

Funny enough. Robin and Billy just happened to be in the studio that day stumbling on the set by accident. So the writers asked them to film that quick cameo before the show started. It was just a funny coincidence that worked.
Weren't they filming their own movie "Fathers day" in the same studio on a different set? They definitely wandered onto the Friends set and were asked if they wanted to do a cameo, but they weren't at the studio on accident
Robin Williams & Billy Crystal appeared in an unscripted cameo at the beginning of an episode of "Friends". They just happened to be in the building where the show was shooting, and they improvised their entire scene. May 1997.
