Eggnog Recipe:
Homemade Eggnog
You will need:
- 2 cups cream (preferably raw)
- 2 cups whole milk (preferably raw)
- 8 farm-fresh egg yolks
- 4 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon ground all-spice
Whisk to combine and warm gently before enjoying.

I grew up as a young girl going up to Mt. Baker to cut our own tree. Those are amazing memories!🥰 My dad loved it so much that he started a commercial Christmas tree farm and U-cut😂 That was 35-40 years ago & now he’s got one of the biggest tree farms in northwest Washington. We live, sleep, eat and breathe Christmas trees in our family at Christmas. We missed cutting the “wild” trees so much... that he started a special section for “wild” unsheared trees. They’re bushier than eastern Washington trees...but still fun to cut & decorate for those who can’t quite make it up the mountain any longer😉 Totally jealous of your beautiful snow....hope you are feeling better and that you’ll have a merry Christmas too. Your kids will never forget the special memories you are making and allowing them to participate in. 🥰

trisha, how wonderful that your family has a wild section! it is hard to describe how much I love a wild Christmas tree! Great memories of tromping through the woods looking for a special tree that would fit in our house in Tacoma....I have not had as great of a tree as I did when I lived in Wa as a kid....thanks for seeing the need for such a tree for all of us that love that look. =)

Loved watching the children dressing the tree.It is so nice to see what I call a traditional tree with different coloured ornaments instead of all coordinating colours its one of the most beautiful trees I have seen on you tube merry christmas xx

This has been one of the best Christmas's I have seen for a long time. It was old fashioned and cold and rich with food. Your children have all this documented. I am a farm girl but rather spoiled. My Dad didn't make my sister and I do chores in the winter. We did everything in the summer months. Which included chickens, cows, pigs . I have a lot of good memories. Now at 70 and a grandma I wish my grandchildren knew what it was like to be in an easier time. Bless you and your family. Thank you for sharing. I will continue to watch. Joyce

The childhoods you are giving your children are filled with meaningful memories but another gift you're instilling in them is the wonderful attitude of finding the abundance of blessings in the hardship. Being sick, at CHRISTMAS of all times, is something few would seek the blessing in but you both did and your children will grow up with that tendency as well. Well Done Mom and Dad!

One of our children’s traditions was to have a small tree in our piano room and they put all their handmade ornaments on it. We would put someone’s binky that went into retirement under the tree and set up their bears and hand made dolls with a little table and chairs and someone’s tea set on the table. Each child made a card ornament and wrote what they were thankful for and on Christmas Eve before some of the gifts were opened they read them. The gifts from us or the out of town grandparents were opened to make room for Santa’s gifts......That was Christmas and I miss it so much. Each received a homemade gift from us and the four girls had kept most of the dolls I made now that they have children.
Unfortunately my house it too small for 16 grd kiddos and 16 grown kids so we have it at someone’s house that has room. I made a fabric bag for everyone’s gifts this year and those who didn’t want to keep it I brought back home and will use them to put in the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child whereas those children will use them to store their presents from us. Our children in America wouldn’t be happy to receive just a shoe box with a toy and personal items like soap, wash cloth, toothbrush and hair accessories. They even love large safety pins.
This year I made soft small blankets for two to three year olds and in the teenage girls I made up sewing boxes with material, a sewing kit, socks and a small wow gift. For the teenage boys I made a fishing box with a thin rope, lures, bandaids, personal hygiene items like wash cloths and soap. The boys in the third world must hunt for food and fishing items were suggested.
It’s so heart warming to watch them open their Christmas box on their website....it’s humbling to my grandchildren when their Moms show them how excited these children get and that one box might be the only one they ever receive. They can’t believe that paper, sizzlers and school items allow them to go to school whereas being so poor they cannot go to school without them...so humbling.
I love the aerial view of the farms and trees so pretty.....yesterday we had 53’ weather and comes Christmas it will be around 60’ just doesn’t seem like the holiday without the white but at least it’s safe to travel.

the kids will love their memories, farm life grows the best kids for sure. The tree looks amazing, i would put on the lights and the girls would do the rest, yes all the ornaments hung in the middle and front for the first years, but it was all worth it.
