Grow lemon balm around your hives. The Greek name for lemon balm is Melissa which means bee. The old bee keepers grew it for the health and happiness of the bees. Rub some on the hives to keep the veroa mites away.

Your farm & family continues to become more beautiful.
I wonder what your little daughter answered when asked what she thought about having new bees, after you & she got stung.
Homey bees are usually less likely to sting, especially after they get to watch you a while, & come to trust your presence in their vicinity. You probably already know this, but they were likely just aggitated by being transported & handled so much on the day you bought them. They'll love their new home with wide open spaces, & hopefully, find enough food sources. You have enough room to grow wild plants just for their preferred food sourcess, so you might ask the vendor which wild plants there were around them where they had been living. They will feel more content if they can still find familiar food sources, in addition to the new ones you grow.
They study faces & recognize us as individuals, which seems remarkable, but it's true.
I was once digging a new bed in the yard (where I rented an apartment), to plant spring bulbs.
I kept on finding big, Japanese Beetle grubs. I was lifting them out with my hand trowel, & placing them on the concrete structures around the front steps, into which the wrought iron railings were seated, & would chop the heads off so each one wouldn't wriggle it's way back into the soil.
Within a few minutes, a Yellow Jacket showed up. I bent my face away, since it seemed interested in me, then I noticed it trying to lift a grub, but it was too heavy. I felt as though we began communicating with each other, & suddenly didn't feel threatened.
It had grabbed a head & took off, soon to return. By that time, I'd begun chopping them each into 3 sections, which it could manage to fly off with. It would land & watch me do that, & then would pick up a piece, fly off briefly, & return for another.
This went on for the entire time it took me to dig out the 1.5' wide beds alongside the walkway.
Please read up on no till gardening. It's proven to give a jump start to the plants we start in spring. The complex biology within the soil is destroyed by tilling. It may or may not restore itself, eventually, but why not respect that it will provide a far superior growing medium if we add our amendments on top, seasonally, dig a hole & plant in that, & let the rain, gravity, microorganisms, beetles & worms assimilate the new material naturally. They will not let you down.
Please check out the research of famous UK gardener Charles Douding. He's well published & has many wonderful vids on UA-cam.
    charlesdowding.co.uk/
Love learning about bees, & seeing them in my gardens. They let me work right next to them, if I take the time to observe & acknowledge them. I've had bees fly up to within a few inches to study my face. I just say hello, then go back to work. They don't ever bother me.
Hope you'll share often what you've learned about yours, & whst you've learned about them dying. Hope you're not near any areas where they use crop dusters to spray for insects.
Oh those Madeline cookies look amazing & whose music is that ? Love that too!

Love that little fence/border! If your grapevines are too rigid, you can soak them a bit to make them more pliable. That's what I do when making wreaths. Keep up the good work and thanks for another great video!

We lost our hives over the winter. Didn't rehive this year. Harvey currently has a couple of traps set hoping to catch swarms. We are focusing on finishing projects this year and thinking about what we're going to do next year re bees. They are amazing aren't they? We find ourselves stopping what we're doing many times just to watch them. Your homestead is shaping up beautifully. Thank you so much for the tour. I always find myself not wanting your videos to end. They are so relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for all of your hard work. We were in Chelan yesterday and I always think about you as we're driving and can see Malaga across the river. You live in such a beautiful area.

Very nice video! Do you own the orchard too? That's even more work to keep up with. The ducks are so cute. We are getting some this year. Do you have any problems with preditors? We have racoon, possum, fox, and hawks. Oh and ground hogs that get in our garden. We have rabbits, but they don't seem to bother the garden. So anything we have has to be supervised or in an electric fenced area. Take care.

A property as this big during the medieval period would have been managed by a monastery. To make it productive they would have given tenancy to atleast 4 farmer families. This is amazing how times have changed . Single family where two adults are able to manage the produce of earth sustainably. I always support farm produced products. Even things like soap, cloth or ceramics.
