  • We build a driftwood bushcraft survival shelter on the coast of the Pacific Northwest! In this video, watch my girlfriend and I hike to a remote coastal oasis, build a shelter out of driftwood, go fishing, forage for berries and mushrooms, cook dinner, and spend the night with no tent, sleeping bags, or fuel.

Hey guys, wonderful adventure! You're making memories that will last a lifetime! I did almost the _exact_ same thing in my younger years on the coast of Oregon. I now live in the PNW and still enjoy the Cascades and Olympics - primitive camping and communing with nature in my 60s. God bless you younger generation for carrying on the the tradition. Loved this! Always live life to its fullest while you can. We live in a beautiful and unique part of the world to do it!!! ❤❤❤👍

15:18 "Pro" -Tip; You can throw those egg shells right in the fire so you don't have to haul them around to the Van and dispose them there 😃
And that must have been the most beautiful shelter ever! Just because I have a weakness for driftwood ☺️

This was so cool! I've never seen so much driftwood. The large "tumors" (burls) are caused by various things that disrupt the tree's growth hormones including insects, frost, fungi, injury, bacteria etc. Inside the burl is often a twisted symphony of wood which is gorgeous when polished, and is prized among wood workers for it's unique beauty. I tried to buy one in an auction once and it sold for £300, but they can go for thousands! Yikes 😅 side note - I recommend reading "The Hidden Life of Trees" - it's absolutely fascinating if you're into trees

You should definitely build a more permanent off grid home! I was curious, how old is the van and how many miles has it got? Obviously you'll need to change up at some point, so what's the plan when you do? Get an old school bus and convert it so you have something bigger? Or do the same again? A semi permanent off grid home might help cut the miles so it lasts longer and if the Van is out of action you've got somewhere still lined up and maybe even able to do minor repairs there.
