- Here is a video I made comparing 6 high-speed dental drills in glass. This is from some of the testing I did for my book review.
- SCM 400XS
- Shofu Air Lab-Z
- NSK Presto
- Turbo 300
- Vortex F5
- Turbo Carver
I am wanting to get into duck egg carving .This will take a very tight , intricate detailed carver. Do you have an opinion on what would work? I've been thinking of the SCM 400 but after watching your video am thinking it might be a bit too bulky for that kind of cutting. Thanks for the video. It really helps to get an idea of how they work
Thanks for doing this demonstration. I'm a woodcarver. I'm still wanting to do gunstocks. I've been holding back buying one yet because there is supposedly one coming out designed for what I want to do and has special bearings that will hold up.
19stoney64 who is making it ? and whats the release date?
Alan Moore I am checking for latest update. Get back to you. I can tell you it's made of very few pieces and also has even more rpm.
Alan Moore It's available now after a couple of years production troubles with machine shops. Contact sculpting studios 438,000 rpm. One guy in my carving club had his order come in last week.
Cheers stoney thanks for the info much appreciated
I believe 19stoney64 is talking about the Vortex F5 in my video. I received a prototype ahead of the production release.
I got a scm 400xs for detail on relief carving steel. I like it but should I have gotten the vortex f5 instead. I will be buying a couple more for my two sons so we can all work at the same time
thanks
Ross Clendening why do you feel you should of purchased the Vortex?
not as noticeable a difference on the glass as there was on the wood ,but they taking alot less off in the glass demo
they are to expensive for me on disability. ..do you know where I can buy a refurbished or excellent quality or maybe you know someone that is selling one???
James Carlin thanks for watching the video. You could watch EBay for a used dental drill.

And what is the purpose, other than your book review? To blow thru an engraving or etching? Do we really need to buy a dental drill? I am satisfied with my Dremel 4000, I do not want to do teeth or I would be a Dentist. Is this a speed thing? Do Dentists watch this? Are you a Dentist? Bye
CATHY SCUDERI the pneumatic dental drills rotate about 400X faster than a Dremel tool. This provides much more control. Making carving as easy as drawing with a pen in even the hardest of materials. They are also much lighter and more comfortable than a Dremel tool. I hope you get a chance to use one. I’m not a dentist, just a artist that uses dental equipment.
