I used to have severe big toe pain. I did a lot of research. 1) I got custom orthotics. They are built to take pressure off of my big toe when I walk. 2) I bought shoes with a wide toe box AND a stiff, rocker solel. 3) I take a turmeric/curcumin capsule everyday. Over the course of 12 months my big toe pain has completely gone away.
@@patriciamercurio7741 I know you weren't asking me, but I know of a couple brands that might interest you. Brooks shoes tend to have a wider toe box. The best shoe for the toe box issue though is Altra in my opinion. Their shoes are directly modeled for the actual shape of your foot. The issue with those is that while there is ample cushion, those shoes have a 0mm heel drop. If you have issues with your achilles, you may have issues. You may have to ease into them over time to get your achilles used to it.
Have you ever had your big toe suddenly cramp and spasm and stick straight upwards in the middle of the night? (excruciating ) and take a while for it to relax and come back down?
I KNOW THIS MIGHT BE GHETTO BUT HEAR ME OUT...... A Trick i do as well WHILE IN PAIN to take pressure off big toe, if you HAVE TO go out or handle errands is, if foot wear is big enough and wide enough preferably a wide foot sneaker or just size bigger.....FOLD A THICK SOCK from the back of your heel to litterally where the big toe starts to begin. Test it out side the sneaker then once correct fit, slide it into the sneaker that way your big toe should feel like its in mid air more and the back part of your foot and mid takes more of the pressure of walking........until you can get your meds and or rest you need to fully heal.....have a blessed day.

Hi My problem is my bunion, I am from Nort Africa and All my family has this condition. I am thinking about surgery but am worried. Thank you for all your help and effort
Hey guys, I'm glad I found this video. I'm a late 30s gym bro who just recently started having issues with my great toe. I haven't been able to workout legs for about a month now, just expecting the toe to resolve on its own. This video was reassuring that some of the stretching techniques I've considered doing will not cause harm. I followed along during the vid and would estimate that i felt a 25% restoration of function and feeling immediately. I'm going to continue the routine. And I would be remiss if I did not comment on how awesome your intro and theme song are!
Thanks for this B&B. I have arthritis and both my great toes have been painful for for a long time but getting worse over the last couple of years. Watching these stretching exercises makes me feel queasy but they all make perfect sense. I'm going to try them but gently at first!!!
Oh hey Bob and Brad! Great to see another vid. A big plate fell on the first knuckle of my big toe almost 20 years ago, so it sometimes bothers me. Thanks for the toe health info, happy Cinco de Mayo yall!
OMG how you know everything about the big teo arthritis, the exact location the frequency, the intensity of pain, sir it gonna kill me I found your video a blessing for myself I got relieved thanks
May I suggest something CHEAP ? For spacing: #1 styrofoam curly packing noodles. These worked better than the yogo toes for me😊 #2 water shoes! It’s crazy, but they have lots of toe space.
Thanks. I will try this. I had an x ray done that shows nothing wrong but that bone hurts on the side a lot, even the smallest amount of pressure makes me want to scream. I thought it was a bunion but compared to most bunions I’ve seen, mine is super minor but I have huge pain. It’s not gout either.
I for years had issues but generally only with activities like planking - I couldn’t do them with toes tucked under, so pointing the toes feet flat is the ony way that worked. I always assumed was related to running activities, wide feet, and hammer toes, so nothing to do with the things discussed in this video. I think?
You could have some arthritis in the toe and/or have hallux rigidus hallux limitus. I have this and I got a cheilectomy surgery. It didn’t help. 😕 I just limit exercises that will irritate my toe like planking and some yoga poses. Wish I could give better advice.
OMG, I’m on state insurance, only told to take NSAID for hallux rigidus, that was it. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I live in my ugly but comfortable Hoka Bondi shoes Always. Biking is okay if I don’t stop on my toes. There is a great Facebook peer support page on this with great shoe lists. Lost my Homeless outreach job due to this condition…seeking a new career. Not looking forward to the end game on this condition, surgery.
Thorogood boots I got feel amazing but after wearing for a couple of months it began to really hurt and cause bunions. They were apparently too small. Went a half size up and everything went away.
I went on Dr Berg keto and follow his protocol for acid build up in body. My tire no longer hurts!!! I had issues for the past two years to point I couldn't walk on it. All gone now. It can be reversed.
My toe pain and metatarsal pain started after my sciatica, I have pain in my big toe that seems to go away with press ups and relieving pressure on the l5 disc. I am starting to think it may be gout but, could it be?
My podiatrist showed me similar exercises to try - but my back is so stiff and sore, my chances of ever being able to get down there to do them are not great!!
My toe hurts from walking with a locked: flexed foot from and ankle injury that's been healed yet I can't program myself to walk correctly... I somehow still walk flexed and it causes my toe to be sore now
I had to have a sesamoid bone removed a year and a half ago, and while the pain is mostly gone, I still can't do what I used to do, like go relevé or walk long distances. I'm hoping exercises like this help and I can eventually get to the point where I forget I ever had surgery!
@@aspireonlinelearning9194 Hi! I'm not at the point where I forget I had surgery, but I have seen slow and steady improvement! I'm still careful, still wear good shoes with inserts most days, but my toe isn't slowing me down any more. I live in New York City and can walk for an hour at a time. I don't run for exercise regularly anymore, but I can run a mile or two with no problem. I can go on relevé. I haven't been super consistent with the exercises, but I do think they help, especially with confidence. The mobility exercises assure me that I can move that joint and use it with no pain, which I think helps me actually use it more and build up those muscles again. I hope you recovery fully!
I’d love to know how to kneel when I can’t bend my toes. I have herniated discs, and osteoporosis, so it was already difficult. It’s been impossible for years now to kneel with 1 knee on floor, because I can’t bend toes at all to get up.
Hello Bob and Brad, Do you have any advice for people who have to wear heels for work? I have large and wide feet which makes finding shoes a huge challenge for me. I have tried on so many court shoes and heels with different toe shapes but nothing works. I honestly hate wearing heels and court shoes personally but I have to wear them for work. Hope you see this comment and can share what I can do to relieve the pain.
Doing this caused my big toe to hurt for longer and worse than ever... Normally it's better and I'm hiking again in a day or 2 it's been 4 days and feels the same..
Broke right big toe sesamoid 17 years ago, when a steel bar in my lab decided to interrupt my gait ;) Still hurts. Amazingly, still have the blood blister at the tip of my toe. Doc said nothing could be done. Any suggestions from anyone's experience? Steroid injections maybe?
My first experience with the sesamoid area, is standing up and feeling like something was stuck under the area. It wasn't pain. I have had cramping with I curl my toes on the same foot. There is a slight bunion. The other foot doesn't have a bunion. I am athletic. I notice there is swelling inside the bottom of the joint. The swelling is more unfortable, and if I curl the toes I can induce cramping. What the???
My husband was seen by a podiatrist and he said it was arthritis on his toe gave him a steroid shot but now how can I help him so he wont go through the pain again
My big toe is in excruciating pain.. this is the second time I'm experiencing this which lasted for 3 days initially. My question is why when I elevate my foot it is more painful? It feels as if my toes has been hit with a hammer and set on fire and it comes and with flaring feeling
Ugh. Having a gout attack that's effecting my big toe. Working it through the full range of motion but sometimes it's sooo swollen. It feels like I'm pumping out sand/rust as you said. Trigger is high purine foods. beer and surprisingly broccoli flares it up for me.
