@Bob&Brad Hey fellas, I learned recently of a study that was done a while back on patients with knee osteoarthritis, where they took castor oil in two capsules, three times a day and it helped their pain and mobility! Since reading that I started taking it myself but only twice a day and I've got to say after the past month, my knees do move a lot easier! Just wanted to pass this gem along so maybe you could add that to your list of advice! Thanks for everything you all do! God bless all y'all and your families with a beautiful Christmas. 🙏♥️🌲
Thanks! Am trying to avoid a double knee replacement. Just got more cortisone shots this morning. The surgeon is still recommending the replacements, for which I am not yet ready. I've dealt with diet and weight loss and activating my glutes more when walking. But these tips are great for me to try now.
@@patriciamercurio7741 blood is taken out of your arm and put into a machine. The remaining plasma is injected into the knee . It slows down the process of osteoarthritis. PRP.
PRP usually aren't covered by insurance and are pricey ( where I live). Check your insurance plan; maybe they will cover costs.. or they may be less expensive where you live.
@ I pay €150 per injection, and had about twenty of them in the last three years. I think they are worth every cent of them. Yes, insurance won’t acknowledge them . They rather pay for destroying cortisone shots.
Another helpful video. BTW, I love the "babbling". I have been following you all for several years. As I will be 70 in a few weeks and will be celebrating with a 10 mile hike. I have my snow shoes and micro spikes ready for whatever the trail conditions. dictate. Please keep the Bob updates coming. I love seeing his smiling face Because of your UA-cam channel I maintain a lifestyle many of my peers are envious of. Thank you.
Thank you guys! I have been experiencing more knee pain recently and sure enough I had added quad and hamstring sets to my weekly routine over the last couple months.
Bob & Brad I'm enjoying the videos for your listeners health and wellness. I've learned so much about my body from watching. Your channel is thorough and easy to understand. I appreciate the valuable information!
Glad you’re enjoying the channel! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! We couldn't continue to provide such information without all our loyal followers :)
I find it effective to multitask the hydration: ice is great for reducing inflammation, so I freeze the water, then to reduce risk of infection I pour a couple ounces of rye over it... Then there's the double chocolate protein and rum recovery shake after a workout. A full video on the trekking poles would be nice, covering single and double, using them uphill and downhill, etc.
Got it! Here are some videos we have done on those trekking poles already and I have added it to our to do list as well: www.youtube.com/@BobandBrad/search?query=trekking%20poles
excellent video again guys - thankyou so much -Good note on the winter boots thing, and something for people with arthritis and fibromyalgia to note - changing your shoes - ouch. so treat that like an exercise because those things DO weigh alot Also the heel strike , i find it so frustrating that alot of shoes actually encourage you to do that . I walk barefoot in my house and backyard all the time. I used to dance so i have body reminders of walking properly that way- but for those who don't check out really simple belly dance exercises; they train you to use your legs and feet properly as does Qi Gong.
My surgeon said arthritis in the knee is the same thing as a meniscus tear. I was bone on bone, and he said I was a candidate for a partial knee replacement. I am glad I got it done, but it is a long healing process. Painful to do the physical therapy, but I know it will be worth it in the long run.
I started cycling again about a year ago. I think it has helped my knees. Along with building leg strength I have improved my core and general balance.
After 22 years with knee pain I learned most of these on my own cuz I searched for the comfort till I found most of these on my own. Hot showers also help to relieve body and knee aches.
I broke my knee in 2015. They recommended surgery. I asked what the downtime was. 4 months no weight bearing with or without surgery. I said forget the surgery. That knee is almost stronger than the other one. Love I can ride my bike still!
I hope you can help me with this question. I do the band exercise that you showed with the yellow band over the knees but I put it over my ankles. Is that OK or should is there a reason it is better to use it as shown? Thank you. I watch your videos all the time.
im bone on bone and hoping this will help to not have to get knee surgery, also i would just like to be able to walk more than half a block without being in severe pain to knee and hips
I have some bad arthritis in both of my knees and am scheduled for a right knee replacement. Xrays show that I have no cartilage left in my right knee and my left knee is not far behind. Will these exercises salvage my left knee or am I destined to replace both knees?
Great informative videos! I am confused re: recommending deep massage of the popliteus muscle… the popliteal fossa is an endangerment zone in MT. Can you please explain? Thank you!
😂 “Walk with your hands on your buttocks, like you normally would.”😅 But, seriously, I started doing squats while I brush my teeth every evening, years ago. Two minutes. I was told I could have a knee replacement, but I was too young. The squats do the job! If I slack off, my knee pain(arthritis) returns. No knee replacement needed!
weird question but what are the shoes you are both wearing? they look very comfortable. I have foot issues and am always looking for a shoe that keeps pain at a minimum. thanks! happy holidays!
7:18 Smoking on airlines: United Airlines created a nonsmoking section in 1971, the first airline to do so. In 1994, Delta was the first US airline to ban smoking on all worldwide flights. In 1988, airlines based in the United States banned smoking on domestic flights of less than two hours, which was extended to domestic flights of less than six hours in February 1990, and to all domestic and international flights in 2000
My knee pain is mainly when I bend the knee past 90 degrees...pain is in the back and to the right (outside). Otherwise, it's fine. But then again, I'm 70.
I have knee pain for over 6 months now gave me 2 cortisol shots, nearly got hit by a car and now it hurts more... got a xray done found nothing, got a bed side ultrasound done at a sports medicine doctors office done found fluid build up but he doesn't know what is going on. I got a special ultrasound done at mayfair a diagnosist place yesterday and just waiting on the results. I also have a small bone spur in the foot of the same leg...so walking is quite terrible to say the least... exercises like sit to stand they want me to do but I can't without severe pain.
Review their knee pain playlist videos till you find one that fits your situation. Or see a good physical therapist. While many doctors have Pooh-poohed my request for PT, I’ve had amazing results for my many issues. I have several neurological conditions that might have otherwise caused me to end up bed bound or using a walker, instead I’m quite active.
@DNAConsultingDetectives ultrasound just told me it's a menacious tear... need an mri to see how big it is.... just got an hydrochloric acid shot in it to... no help
What two different problems are you talking about? If you are talking about arthritis and bone on bone usually they occurred together. It is very common for most people over the age of 65 to have Bone on Bone, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will always have pain. Some people go through their entire life with arthritis and bone on bone and do not experience any pain .
Yes, I have roulette leg pain… Every day a different number is gonna come up. It doesn’t matter what I do or don’t do the prior day. My body pain has a mind of its own.
I had a knee replacement a year ago. I was bone on bone on one side. I would never do that surgery again, it was the most horrible experience of my life and I have had at least five major surgeries. I would have just suffered with it, never again.
Thx ! I’m on my feet all day long, & suddenly, at 64, I begin waking up with knee & hip pain these last couple of weeks. The one thing different? I haven’t been able to carry my 42oz water bottle on me all this time. So, I’ve only been drinking maybe a quart or two a day, instead of my regular two gallons of water per day. Doesn’t help that it’s 80°F here.
Can I identify with this episode. Two big problems I had with severe knee arthritis in my left leg and moderate in my right, were thus. First, and likely foremost, mental. "Pity poor me." Which led to number two, this stuff hurts. It hurt to stand. It hurt to start to walk. It hurt to get in and out of a car. So ... one does it less. Which, of course, makes it hurt more when doing it. Thus see yet again, "Pity poor me." Guess the outcome. Or outcomes. Fast forward. Do these exercises. I could pick out most of them of variations thereof that we do in an aerobics class (age appropriate, I'm 71), at a senior center. I walk there about half a mile and back carrying a 20 pound or so backpack that has my weights and mat). Now to the benefits. "Pity poor me" was replaced by, "It's good to be active" me. Out and about. It hurts only slightly to do the things I mentioned. "Use it or lose it" pertains. It's not just about longevity, but quality of life. Positive, upbeat, work at it. The rewards aren't obvious at first. Life is unfair. It's hardest at the start. And yeah, some days it's a slog. Most days, not. If you watch these guys (and I have for some time), they are onto something. Maybe one key is physical therapy is in a sense mental therapy. Get up. Get moving. Your body, your world will thank you. In turn, enjoy. You earned it. Be happy!
That you can’t beat the race against father time… everybody gets old eventually. If I could only do one thing out of this entire list, it would be to maintain a healthy body weight. It’s simple physics all right a close second would be drinking water. I find it amusing that knee pain from the result of being fat and sitting on your ass for 30 years is going to be fixed by that same person all of a sudden adopting a healthy diet with exercise and stretching and stick with it to see even incremental benefit

@user-px2xu6qr9h capsules she said so I'd assume pill form
Very interesting thank you!

Cortisone shots Will destroy your cartilage. Better try PRP.

Very informative video. Just had my TKR. Broken hip in the spring, so I have a long road ahead of me, but I’ll get there.
best of luck!
Thank you! Gonna try these exercises!
YOU guys are the BEST. I've been using Bob&Brad (and Mike ;) stretches and exercises for knees and cervical radiculopathy and this stuff WORKS!
nice job guys! (I am a PT but, my specialty is pelvic floor!) nice review for knee rehab.

Words of wisdom
Using ankle weights can cause shin splints. I would not use them. (This happened to me when I was in my teens.)
I remember in 1990 or 91 when I went to Europe on Air France, I think that I remember smoking on the plane. But the French smoke more.
This moment when Knee Surgery.....is not tomorrow?
I didn't hear any crunching or squeaking 😊👍
I'm not in lock. I need both replaced 😭
The voice of Mike 🙉
Me too 🙉
Not nice!
Thankfully NO
Or you could lose weight, that's the best why to help reduce knee pain.

Brad putting a little more weight on in the midsection.
What a rude comment! 😮
@garfielda34 sorry. It's an inside joke.
