Um if we know that tobacco products do nothing except cause diseases why are they still legal? If we know that certain “foods” like soda and other garbage have zero nutritional value why are they allowed to be sold to consumers?
Well you can walk around barefoot if you want, it's actually not that uncommon here in NZ. I didn't really wear shoes til I was 13 and it was school uniform.
I'm using silicone toe spreaders or a splint. Once the toes get use to it, the big toe toe will stop fighting with it's own muscle memory and begin to move back. It actually works. This will take more time to correct the damage already done over the years. Buy wide boots or shoes that fit comfy and the foot can move from side to side without any toe squeezing. Toe socks do not work for this method. Continue using toe spreaders or splint each evening for a few hours and remove if discomfort begins. Repeat process each night or every other night as your toes will begin to adjust. Try to catch this before it gets too severe and need surgery. Surgery cuts nerve endings in the bottom of your foot and causes a permanent numbness that is uncomfortable. Foot doctors may not tell you this and you will have to live with it for the rest of your life. Try to avoid surgery if possible.
😮 I imagine nerve damage in feet negates any benefits of good toe spacing that might improve balance, and just replaces that issue with a new one of lack of/inadequate sensation... Not to mention a long time with strange cold/burning electrical pains that can recur years on. Nerves take an age to heal or re-map, if not at all. I had experience of colectomy to remove a tumor. The surgeon thought "saving my life" was sufficient not to have to warn me about 45% risk of pudendal nerve damage, in my case, 5 years ago... nor the LARS that affects bowel cancer survivors for the rest of their life. It takes a long time to heal, manage and adapt to a "new normal". My experience of hip surgery at RNOH was much more positive. It depends a lot on the consultant, the hospital culture, and essentially their patient attitude. Their experience of your condition is often very academic, and they have little idea of how their intervention affects you long after you leave hospital. They assume you'll have read it in the pre surgery literature, or accept it when you sign consent forms
I can definitely say that wearing wide toe box shoes, being barefoot more often, wearing toe spacers, and doing foot strengthening exercises has helped a ton with my bunions and flat feet. Been using the ByeBuns kit for the past few weeks and it has truly made a difference. Great video
I was a medical massage therapist for 20 years, studied MyoSkeletal Alignment, specializing in correction of muscle imbalances, I was an instructor and wrote extensive lesson plans on teaching therapist which muscles groups were involved in specific and common complaints/body issues and THIS WAS THE MOST INVOLVED AND INFORMATIVE VIDEO ON BUNIONS I HAVE EVER SEEN AND I LEARNED MORE IN 15 MIN ON THE SUBJECT THAN IN 20 YEARS!! LOVE! NOT ONLY DID IT COVER A LOT OF SPECIFIC & USEFUL INFORMATION , BUT IS EASY FOR ANYONE TO FOLLOW!! THANK YOU!!!!
I see you didn’t mention genetics as a possible reason. My grandma, my mom and now I all have it. I can assure you my grandma and even my mom never worn narrow shoes. They grew up on a farm and back in the day in Eastern Europe shoes were very simple. Neither of them had flat feet or walked weirdly. I can only check the box for occasional pointy shoes. Yet we all have it…I believe genetics play a part too. All the advice I find very helpful and will try them all. Thank you so much for this video
Completely agree, my grandmother had bunions. I was born with the same hands and feet of my grandmother and I also inherited her bunions. Definitely genetics
He did say acquired flat feet, which I would say acquired by genetics. My mom overpronated, and my arches totally flatten and feet pronate. My mom's sister probably did too as she had bad bunions. My mother also had hammer toes and other foot problems. My dad's feet were great, and I seem to be in the middle between them for foot problems.
When I took my mother to get her bunions fixed, her consultant took one look at my feet and said “I’ll be doing yours one of these days”. I am very happy to say that since I went barefoot several years ago, my feet are so much stronger and healthier, and there is no worry about me having a problem with bunions now
So you go to work and/or work barefoot, drive barefoot and just do everything barefoot? Not many can afford to do that, and I don't even mean money, just simply via the nature of their work lol.
Man!I have very flat feets and had orthopedics shoe soles for years and it's good but i tried to correct my posture like you suggested and it's incredible, the feeling to have the toes streched, the correct muscles used and the correct motion is incredible,it took me 15-30 minutes to feel the effects and i felt my body saying "YES",walking feel like never before now,it's such a delight!!Many Thanks.
When I was a child in Singapore, aged 3, my amah taught me to spread my toes as wide as possible and also to pick things up with my toes without bending down or if my hands were full, I could also pinch my siblings when play fighting and they couldn't do it lol. I am now 63 and I can still do this, I don't have bunions, but I wanted to watch this to make sure I never get them, prevention better than cure. But walking around bare footed every day, I have noticed my arches have fallen, so on to my next video with you:) Thank you for the time you've taken to give us this valuable information, much appreciated, glad I subscribed.
Excellent video. This really was full of the basic information that explains the causes of bunions and crowded toes. Then the basic methods to correctly help treat and resolve these problems is so well explained. I'm a Physician Assistant, practice > 45 years and have seen thousands of patients with these problems and had no real idea of how to address them, except for wider box toe shoes and referral to a Podiatrist. My wife, who started Ballet training as a young girl, had terrible hallux valgus/bunions and trouble finding any shoes she could wear without pain. These well explained methods would have really helped her and my previous patients!! Thank you!!!
I've had bunnions my entire life. My younger daughter is starting with them too and I've always made sure all my kids shoes fit properly. They mostly go barefoot anyway, lol. There is definitely a genetic component.
Same here. My left foot is the worst! I had it fixed June 30th. Still healing! My right foot is bad but tolerably unlike how the left foot was. I'll be fixing that one in a few years. U should definitely look into surgery if it's bad and pain meds doesn't help! But definitely be prepared ! You'll have to depend on humans and most humans aren't reliable.. Hopefully you'll have reliable ppl to help u out If u do decide to get surgery. Good luck 2 ya!
This is really helpful! I’ve started ballet since young, and I think it’s one of the main causes that I have bunions and internal knee rotation. To add on, I have flat feet which caused my feet and legs to ache terribly when I was younger. I’ve always been wondering why my legs and feet were different from my friends and this helped. Thanks for the video!
lol yeah i used to wear narrow ass shoes and now i got anime girl ass legs caving in and out looks so goofy on a guy has ur situation improved doing what this guy did ?
I've had this for about 17 years and for the last 9 I've worn a toe spreader just on my big toe and it has absolutely stopped the progression. I just use the ones women use to paint their toes with from the dollar stores. If you should try this beware that for some time your foot will be MORE sore as your toe is being somewhat forced back the other way. It goes away.
@@everyneed3959 It is better than it was when I first started doing this but it will never be right. I'm 55 and am extremely active on my feet, have been my whole life and this has kept me going good so far. The thought of toe reconnection surgery, well...FORGET THAT S--T!..LOL..
Andy L, thanks for sharing first of all. Do you wear the spacer all the time or just when you have shoes on? I’ve tried them and wow!!!….they seem to really hurt at night when I go to sleep. Thanks again for giving real world info!!🦶🏽
@@mebeingU2 Well first I thought he was going to provide a link to that product but I don’t see one available and second you are probably supposed to just put them on for a few minutes and work up to a longer time frame but I don’t think you’re supposed to be wearing it 24/7
I had a bunion developing in my right baby toe and Morton's Neuroma between my 2 & 3 toes, on the same foot. I've taken your advice and switched over to zero drop shoes with really wide toe boxes. I also took the cue from your cute newborn baby and started doing exercises of splaying out my toes and curling them and doing about 25 of these 2 or 3 times a day. My feet feel energized after I do these exercises. To my great surprise, my Morton's Neuroma has nearly disappeared and my bunion is about half the size, and it has only been 2 weeks! Hopefully in another few weeks, these 2 problem will have completely healed themselves. Thank you for video posts! They have been very helpful.
Your comment about the exercises for bunions got my attention . Gonna try them for my bunion on big toe of right foot . Hope the excesses work for the big toe . 🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
@@joebiscit My bunion on my right baby toe is gone. It is now nice and straight. The Morton's Neuroma is not bothering me as much anymore, but there is still a little bit left. This may take a little bit longer.
I found this video before my bunion got bad. I just developed it over the past month. I'm very grateful to find this, I was told that it only got worse once you developed one. I'm also going to start wearing toe separators used for pedicures when I get home from work every night to help separate my toes. I bought some running shoes that I really liked a couple years back and have been wearing them ever since. And I think that's what caused the bunion. Also I wear too tight socks that push my toes together too much. And I work on my feet all day. I'll be back with a two-week update!
@@tylerd55555 I have started getting a tiny one and i only wear crocs and trainers that are not tight ,I never wear high heels or any pinched up shoes so how have i got it
This is one of the best videos regarding our feet that I've ever seen. Very well thought out and presented so that it is completely understandable. Thank you so very much for the explanations. This confirms to me that post surgical binding to remove calluses and reduce the bunion has only accelerated the hallux valgus. Now that I've viewed this video, I will try a few of the resolutions to realign my left big toe. Thank you so very much.
I wear Altra running and hiking shoes. It's the only brand of athletic shoes I can wear. I am aging with little fat pads left on the bottom of my feet so regular bare foot shoes with little to no cushion are too painful to wear. Some Altra shoes are well cushioned so I can walk long distance in them without any issues. For casual and at home wear, I swear by Crocs. They have natural foot shaped toe boxes like the Altras but you wear them like sandals or slippers.
Focusing on placing your feet straight helped me deal with back pain from my scoliosis. It is also pretty incredible to try and focus on pushing yourself away from the backfoot, instead of only thinking about the front foot landing - it can make you surprisingly faster and shift a lot of strain from the thighs onto the calves and ankles. :)
Best video I've seen on bunions yet. Would love to see a video on best shoes for bunions...I've googled just this over the years and can never find good shoes.
I'm so glad I found this channel. I have bunions, heel spurs, and had plantar fasciitis at one point in time. I noticed something was wrong with my ankles when I started practicing yoga and the same exercise you suggested to straighten your ankles was a yoga pose I was struggling with. After a week I was able to maintain balance but I will admit some weeks after I still have not perfected it. Now that you have explained this in detail I understand now how my ankles contributed to collapsed arches and how it exacerbated the issues I have with my bunions. I also think that my knees are a bit inverted which also contributes to this problem. I definitely look forward to your program.
This is so helpful. I've had a foot phobia since I was a little kid, which led to me wearing shoes and socks pretty much at all times. As well as having a really big shoe size but wearing a few sizes too small for a long time. I've had an operation, but the bunion just came back. It's nice to know there's another way to solve the problem.
@@MsBahbii he also asked for people to comment if they wanted to see future videos about the best shoes for bunions. Thanks for the link, I'm really insecure about my feet. In addition to bunions I have long skinny toes and they look odd.
Thank you so much for this very well described video. I am blind and haven’t been able to find anything that makes audio sense along with understanding. This is excellent and I can’t wait to get started to improve the health of my feet. Thank you! My mobility is incredibly important to me.
** i Found that For my feet, i have only one bunion, on my right foot. I traced the cause, i was having to be on my feet too much under stressfull conditions of work style, and how i was carrying my stress...which i found i was carrying stress and tension, concentrating it in my Lower back region. This was squeezing the nerves that run down to my feet. Then add the excessive stress on way i had to work on my feet and legs it aggrivated it effected my posture greatly in my lower and mid back. i have always been one to buy footwear wide so i can wiggle my toes and prefer they have extra room to move. I am glad to say i no longer have excessive demand of stressful activity on my legs and feet and am glad for the help and guidance of this video information. My feet responding some right away after i tried video helps, which tells me Foot wants to return to its original way of movement. Wonderful. Thankyou, very much for your helpful advising !! 🤓
As a nurse, I know that a baby learns to walk when his/her legs are ready. It did not occur to me that the foot-toe movements are actually part of the preparatory stages that they do. Thanks for this knowledge, Sir. Nugget knowledge as it may seem but it shows how intelligent the body is.
The Creator's creativity in HIs Works is beyond Genius; He creates the body to heal itself, so knowing what our temple requires for any healing process is by keeping His instructions!!! All Praises unto Him for His Existence and Authority!!!
Thanks for this, I developed a bunion 3 weeks ago , then got swelled up I had to be on crunches. Went to idmeitate care, specialist, emergency care and Va clinic. Thanks for the motivation!
I loved this video! My mom has a flat foot and is developing bunions- her doctor literally didn’t tell her anything about how she could prevent the further development and it got me rlly angry so I went on a information hunt and landed here, now I know how I can help!
I can confirm that all of this really helps. After 2 years of wearing barefoot shoes, toe socks and doing foot exercises, my feet are much better and they certainly don't feel comfortable in "normal" shoes anymore. (I can't believe my feet put up with them for so long.)
Have you noticed any loss of height from those shoes? I do like the idea but am concerned about the arches falling; can they be kept as they should be. Me feet are healthy now, so I don't want to risk them but would value your input. Thank you, Glenn
@@glennmariacher4525 i haven't noticed any loss of height and regarding the arches fall, i would say the opposite, mine look stronger and more stable. Note that if you're used to shoes that have a strong maintain of the arches you'll probably need some time to adapt (maybe some muscles need to be traîned)
Thank you Thank you. Your narration was on point, not too fast, smooth articulation. I rarely finish full videos. Stayed throughout yours. Will follow all your aid points.
Thank you - I have been experimenting along these lines in recent years - and your recommendations confirm my findings. Reluctantly my glamorous footwear is no longer an option. I am also finding that as my foot health improves, so does my posture and spine.
Thank you so much for this info. Not sure why this video was recommended but I needed it. I have been using the barefoot shoes for months but still have bunion pain. Just placed order for socks and toe spreader while watching your video. The random shooting pain is unbearable sometimes.
This is video is so helpful for anybody if we only do what this person is telling us to do we all be in a much better place When it comes to our feet. when I was in my 30s I start having a lot of bunions pain especially at night resting I try to avoid at all cost wearing high heels so I went online did my research and I found this things call Gel toes separators and they have been my saving grace I wear them every day I wear them at night for a long time and my pain went away I did what I could to keep the pain a way now I’m 50 and my thought is pretty straight doesn’t have a deformity and I keep wearing those things all the time With another new products that have come in the market for the same thing.
Lem's Barefoot Shoes are my favorite brand so far besides Vivo! They have really incredible boot options and I got rid of all my existing shoes and replaced everything with Lem's and Vivo. Currently using Correct Toes to stretch my toes and help my hammer toes and bunions. Feeling better already, thank you for posting this very helpful video.
Lem's used to be my go-to for enclosed shoes, with Xero DIY huaraches for open shoes. But Xero started making really good enclosed shoes and now I prefer their HFS sneakers to Lems Primals (edited spelling)
I've recently seen a newer surgical technique for fixing bunions. Instead of the older bunionectomy surgery, this new technique uses small plates to correct the unstable big toe joint. According to what I read, some of the newest evidence points to unstable toe joints as being a primary cause of bunions. As opposed to earlier beliefs that the pushing out of the big toe bones was the primary cause of bunions. Thank you for your information, as I'm sure it can all be used together along with the newest understandings of bunions to help curb and repair bunions. Preferably without surgery all together.
I wore great shoes in my teens, seldom wore heels and gave them up completely at 21. I never wore pointed shoes, I have a good arch in my feet, get plenty of exercise, been doing those exercises to try to get the bunion to lesson....I have done each suggestion except for the shoes as I have worn the right shoes since I was a teen. It took me to be 55 before the bunions that appeared some years prior actually hurt. I have tried each thing you suggest and none worked. My entire family gets bunions and all of us wear good shoes! For us it is inherited.
quit. wearing. shoes. as he said, our feet were meant to connect to the earth. for me, this meant quitting my work in the city and becoming a barefoot farmer. no more bunions corns or pain. change.
@@readingwithamy9397 I don't wear shoes much and that isn't what caused me to have bunions! Each person is different! My family were all FARMERS. They went barefoot and alot and so did I but all of us got them. It won't help my feet to go completely barefoot as they TROB terribly barefoot. Please feel free to not wear shoes but don't tell me what to do. My twin sister died last year from ALS. Her bunions were worse then mine and a solid year of her not walking did not help hers! Thank you so much for this video. It's so helpful, I am 44 & have been wearing narrow toe box shoes for a long time, not all the time but my feet feel & look it. I look forward to applying these tips & will be on the look out for wider toe box shoes for my very wonderful 10 year old. Oh! And your baby is so cute!! And she's doing her exercises!! 😊🎉🙌
Whenever I talk to physiotherapists or trainers about how I think my bunion is treatable with exercise they look at me funny. That attitude is probably why I never heard of ankle mobility being a factor. Many thanks for your clear and informative video. Subscribed.
My problem is tarsal coalition. I was born with club feet that were treated with wearing boots wrong way round. Now bunion harrasment. I am going to follow your advice. Thank you.
This is great, and explains things so well. I thought it was all genetic but after some time basically in the house because of the pandemic, and wearing loose shoes all the time, my beginning bumps disappeared on one foot and greatly improved on the other. Now I have these ways of continuing to improve foot health- thank you!!
I thought it was genetic too.until I started watching children walking with their parents, they walk just like their parents because that’s all they see on how to walk, it’s a learned behavior or learned posture. amazing right? Our human bodies are just amazing!
Perhaps a combination, my Grandmother and mother had bad bunions, big toe near horizontal, both feet, only my left foot has this problem !? so shoes alone can't be the issue
I wonder where this "genetic" idea came from -- Why would we be pre-designed to fail and hurt? What is genetic are the tendencies that can lead us to not use our feet ideally ie our gait etc... BUT PROPER BODY USE IS LEARNED NO ONE IS DESTINED TO HAVE BUNIONS!
I’m 74 and don’t expect my toes to straighten back up unless I had surgery, which I have zero interest in. But I did order and receive some of those silicone toe spacer things and the very first time I used them, after wearing them for 2-3 hours I removed them and noticed my toes were separated and I was able to wiggle them around! They’ve been almost like they were glued together tightly for years and now I can actually splay them and wiggle them! So thanks for showing me that those things exist 🤗
I'm a pilates and yoga instructor and we always do something in the class within the month for feet. I believe that if we have mobility and flexibility in the foot and ankle then better balance walking, running and standing is achieved.
Somehow I ended up here from The kneesovertoesguy's channel. This comment really resonates with what he's shared so far. It's all about the foundation.
@@MrCmon113 it does however make up for the lack of awareness in your biodynamics that cause people to make improper adjustments. Yoga is about sensing and conditioning, not physical therapy.

This video was extremely insightful. Better than any podiatrist I have ever been to. I don’t like podiatrists typically as they seem to just be salespeople pushing orthotics and not actually interested/capable of providing actual treatment
I would humbly disagree. You'll find shady practitioners everywhere. You can thank capitalism for that. A good podiatrist would be completely honest with you with you about what is effective. I had a wonderful podiatrist, and I couldn't say enough good about him. The man was an angel in my life. But he is retired now and I know the game so I'm weary about finding another one, even if it is my podatrist's successor; this person has some giant shoes to fill. Pun not intended.
@@beelzebootthecanadiandevil9600 Obviously, you do agree if your one positive encounter was with a podiatrist who has since retired and you have been reluctant to find his replacement (should you ever need that type of care again). Conversely, you can disagree but I was there at my appointments and this is my perspective. I understand the value of capitalism. Here’s my point: Don’t pee on me and try to tell me it’s raining ☔️! My personal experience still stands and is as follows; the “Podiatrists” that I have visited have posed to be concerned with treating the ailment but are soon revealed to be merely orthotics pushers similar to what he suggested at the end of the video.
@@DevotedtoTruth You did say, "typically," that's my bad. I guess I missed that part. Good on ya. I just wouldn't want a comment like this to dissuade somebody from getting orthodics or consulting a podiatrist. First thing I will is say is that my consultance was FREE . The Podiatrist advised me AGAINST purchasing orthodics and suggested that I just stop what I was doing(being the 3rd random medical specialist to suggest this--all for different reasons, of course). I won't give y'all my life story, but those orthodics probably saved my life. A couple months after I got them, my ex's dad placed them on a heater and pretty much destroyed them. My podiatrist repaired them for me free of charge. He advised my exgf against wasting any money on braces and stuff for hammer toe and told us the only way to effectively fix that is through surgical intervention. Everybody was telling me this guy was out to take my money, but he was a life saver for me. Those orthodics lasted me 10 years until I lost them. Where I found they were making money was off of shoes. However, they weren't making a whole lot. I could have ordered the same shoes on the internet for $130 and have to wait several weeks for them to come in. Or pay $180 at the podiatrist. I had no issues paying the $180 for the first year or so. But when you're running 10km a day just to warm up, you go through shoes quickly. I used to joke that I was going to quit running and take up smoking again because it was cheaper.
I went barefoot much of the time until my mid 20’s. Even with flat feet, I had no other foot issues and enough dexterity in my toes to tie and untie shoelaces. Now in my 60’s, after way more shoe wearing, my feet aren’t so good. The last few years I found the most comfortable has been quality sandals year round. I live in Canada so, yes, even in the snow. I’ve only recently heard of barefoot shoes and will be watching your review of the best ones for bunions.
OMG, thanks for the clarity! I changed to wider shoes years ago and used a toe spreader for a while. Neither helped. Plus, my arches are clearly not fallen. But boy oh boy, you definitely got me on poor ankle mobility. That would be me, though I'd never heard of that as a cause for bunions. That explains a lot. I did that stretch just now, and the toes splayed automatically - not a lot but noticeably. I will do both of the exercises and see how I do. Cheers ~ P.S. Cute baby!
One good thing at our times, snickers and all the other flat athletic shoes are what most of us wear, and nobody acts strange, as this was anheard of,some 20-30 years back. .....

When I was 22 I got a moderate borderline severe bunion on my right foot and as the years went past it started to get worse. I chose after much consideration to start wearing the Vibram five finger toe shoes. After about two or three years of wearing them every single day as my only shoe I had a noticeable difference on my bunion. After about four or five years I was able to stand on my ball of my foot only on my right leg. That had been impossible before. Vibram five finger toe shoes check many of the boxes that you had discussed in this video and I think they’re a fantastic solution for people who are early and their injuries don’t have a severe bunion.
I’d also like to mention that for most of my young adulthood I allowed myself to stand and walk pigeon toed and after I started trying to fix that I realized that the vast majority of that issue was in my hip. This was by far the hardest thing to correct because it took just sheer will power to force myself to walk with my toes facing forward and after about 10 years it is started to feel second nature. I would say this is one of the easiest things to correct if you notice your children or other individuals stand that way to mention to them that this may cause lasting bodily injury in the future for them if they don’t correct early
You explain things very thoroughly and in a way that makes it easy to understand. Your videos were particularly helpful. Your daughter looks adorable.🎀 Hopefully we'll see more of her in the future.

I would love a video about shoes specifically for feet with bunions! That desire is what led me to find barefoot shoes. From the first day of wearing them the pain reduced significantly. On another note, I had asked my chiropractor awhile back about the bunions and he was able to adjust the joints in the feet as well. Not as a primary solution, but as an additional took to help the bones realign.
Thanks for making this very informative video. My right foot has a bunion, and I was thinking of surgery to remove it. I am glad I found this channel and will try the 5 steps you outlined here.
definitely want to see a video on the best specific shoes for bunions, as my wife has one (one was surgically repaired/corrected by a podiatrist when she was younger, and is doing great now).
As a personal trainer and someone who has had bunion surgery herself, I highly recommend exercising your feet! Look up videos. We have layers of muscles on our feet and modern shoes only keep the muscles dormant. I also now wear “zero drop” shoes that make your feet work as you walk - the way they were meant to.

Thank you! I've had pain in one foot for yrs. It was always the slightly wider foot and the shoe that needed stretching. For years I took great care regarding shoes, being a single parent for 30 yrs, I wasn't really paying attention and recently found none of my shoes really fit the high standard I used to have, hence the bunion. A toe spacer is helping, but I think now I'm gonna separate EVERYONE. Will be checking out the shoes and work on going barefoot around the house
I've had bunions my entire life due to being a figure skater from childhood. Figure skating boots are very narrow at the toes and are relatively inflexible. I never thought that there was something wrong with the shape of my toes because I've always had bunions. Hopefully they can still be fixed - I'm 22 years old now and started skating since I was five years old.
I've been a ballet dancer and the tight shoes in combination with the movements and insufficient stretching made me have a bunion at 10. It also runs in the family with me. I've only recently discovered there is something I can do about it. With plenty of exercise I hope it's not too late for us!
ive been a runner for almost 8 years and the tight shoes along with the constant practice put a strain on my feet. sice the foot is the most important body part in my sport, it effected my heels/shins, knees, hips and hamstrings. i hope its not too late for me. im 20 years old btw
Brilliant explanation that ties together all the wonderful healthy feet, barefoot movement information that is evolving in the 21st century. My partner has bunions from wearing bad shoes and now we’re addicted to minimalist shoes.
Thanks for making this educationall video. I recall prior to adolesence when my mother came home I was astonished at the sight of her bunions. It looked painful, yet she relentlessly wore those high heels with narrow toes until she changed jobs. Concerning the newborn, Congratulations. .
I've noticed the image with the silicone toe spreader applied to the big toe with the fat part pointed in toward the middle toe. The corrector I have purchased shows it being worn on the middle toe with the fat part pointed toward the big toe. I wonder if this would make much difference but wanted to point it out if it hasn't already. Thanks for the video!
I was limping last week because I went on a “surprise” hike with a friend who thought we were going for a walk! 😂 My bunion kicked in and I used a bug toe spreader for 6 days and while sleeping. I only used a splint for one night. My first flare up lasted about 3 weeks and I wore water shoes for walking and hiking for at least a year. I feel great just after a few days of spreaders! 🦶 I also wear Zero gravity shoes when possible, cause lifts or heals also press toes forward. Thanks for reminding me about Barefoot! I’ll visit their website today. Finding cush and spread is a challenge.
Did you have a bunion before the hike? was yours corrected by using the toe spacer only while sleeping? because i have a bunion and would imagine using it during the day would not be effective because the foot would overpower the spacer and go back to normal but that it might work after wearing it lots of nights
Thankyou. A great video, with terrific explanations. I had a bunionectomy on my left foot 10 years ago, and have 4 screws in that foot as a result. I have a bunion on my right foot and am working towards NOT having another operation. I heard about Barefoot shoes a year ago and have changed my footwear. I wear toe socks. I bought toe separators and use those - though perhaps not as often as I should! Must confess they hurt after a while. Should I perhaps only wear them at night? Thankyou for your recommended exercises. I shall start doing those straight away. 🙏

Very informative for me! I have found the I have been doing the toe spreading exercise without thinking about it while I read! Barefoot of course. Someone saw me doing this once and it sort of freaked them out seeing my toes spreading out-they commented to me, and I said I didn't even realize I was doing it! How neat! I'll try these new exercises. Thank you for this video. I have more to learn!
Great vid and useful information for the masses. Happy you kept the dialogue simple and straightforward. I just subscribed because you are a great teacher!
New subscriber here! My bunion had almost torn through the flesh and I had to get surgery to file the bone and loosen the flesh on the inside of the big toe. The bone has grown back (almost 35 years since the surgery!) but mostly manageable. Except during the rainy season or cold weather when it hurts and often gets inflamed. I wore a bunion brace for years but now a toe spreader helps most of the time. I mostly wear open sandals with a toe separator stump but I will check out the barefoot shoes. Thanks, Lajo
Very well done. However, I didn't notice much difference when I use those silicone toe spreaders for several months. Also count me skeptical about socks squeezing toes together. Shoes definitely I would say r a problem, and the wide toe box would be the solution. Overall you make a nice presentation and show genuine concern 4 people.
They don't work! Save your money. Either live with your feet or have a podiatrist take care of the problem. It will take several months to heal, so if you normally do exercises I don't know how you'd be able. Even with surgery, bunions can come back. Don't be fooled. Other than surgery, nothing will remove bunions. Don't be taken!
I have size 13 E feet and socks definitely inhibit my toes from spreading. Seems like all sock manufacturers have a "one size fits all" approach further contributing to my bunion problems...
The toe separators saved my feet. I had a huge reduction in my bunion. I wear them around the house and always in my closet toe shoes. I’m obsessed with them.
Love your video and very informative. I might consider the toe spreaders. At this moment I have a brace to try, but I always manage to get rid of it during my sleep. So this doesn't work. However, there is nothing in your video about inheratance. My mother never wore shoes and always wore very loose and big slippers for 99% of her live, didn't get out of the house and didn't have high heels. I was shocked seeing her toes at the end of her live. Her big toe was almost I think at least 45 degrees pointing to the other toes and overlapping the first toes. So, where did this came from? Not from bad shoes for sure. Furthermore, I can't buy good shoes in the Netherlands. There are some producers that pretend to sell good shoes, but in practice the shoes are very uckly, not fitting and a frustration. Producers don't seem to understand that a wide feet doesn't mean a wide heel. So, even if you are lucky to find a shoe that fit your toes, you can't walk on it, because you slip out of it at the heel. Tried a few shoes, but it felt like I was 6 years old and trying my mothers shoes. Why doesn't these producers do any investigation and think that a toe problem also means a wider heel?
Thank you for these "foot" videos. I did a complete rupture of my left Achilles some years ago. Despite all my constant Pilates , physio, and good shoes, the arch on the left foot is slowly falling and I am developing a bunion on the left big toe. it is a constant battle with my foot and leg, and I am concerned about decreased function as I age. Do you have any suggestions or comments about how to slow this process, or prevent this process from continuing?
Great video. At volleyball we threw small towel down and use toes to scrunch it, gather it underneath foot. Ankle health and ROM are very important for volleyball players.
A simple and very effective exercise for your feet is to stand on one foot without holding you balance to anything else. Feel what happens then. It improves your foot arcs by exercising the relevant muscles.
i'll try that, hope it will cure my bunion but I blame shoes for this even though I never wore pointy or high heels, my shoes never fitted properly and never had the natural shape of the toes. I should sue all shoe manufacturers because they can make classy and comfortable shoes. I think they were designing them for a different type of feet which the majority of people do not have.
@@frostflower5555 yeah some of my shoes don't really fit right too.. i only have bunion on one foot which is kinda weird idk why. I bought the toe separator but stopped using it cuz lazy lol. Should probably get better shoes next time
@@frostflower5555 Hi Frost Flower, this exercise will not cure bunions, but it will add strength to the muscles of your feet and hence support a better posture. Bunions can be cured to some extend with toe-spreaders and, of course, wider shoes.
I literally went to the podiatrist today. I'm in big trouble! Thanks for this. I will do as much as I can with my doctors advice and yours, so I can avoid surgery and help my body heal as much as possible.
This is an excellent video! Love it, very informative and well explained. Can you make one on bunionette/tailor's bunion, please please? It's usually harder to find any good information about that less common condition, and it seems I could get a lot of help from you.
As a human who has no arch an actual orthic doctor confirmed it for me and have total duck feet. I appreciate this video!? I just started wearing a "toe ring or separater" between my big toe and middle toe. I just wear it 24/7. I take them off to shower, I wash my feet really good, then I wash my toe separators. Make sure both are dry and then put them back on.
I agree, my feet look just like my grandmother's.... bunions on both feet worse on the right. The thing is they NEVER hurt me so I have no desire to have any surgery.
Thank you! Such a great video and I wish you success with your shoe business. I went to a podiatrist and I do have a valid Hallux problem. I wore high heels almost every day for about 10 years. I do not want to do surgery though. Your video really helped me feel more confident about what I am doing to heal it myself. I have become more conscious of what shoes I buy but not socks! Very good point! I will try to support your business and share this video you took the time to give us for free. Have a great day!
Since Covid staying at home has helped my feet they look way better and my bunion isn’t as protruding now 🤗. I have flat foot bunions. I wear Archies flip flops amazing.
You should probably get some orthotic shoes for work, or ask an orthotics salesman which brands are ok to get. I know there are wedges and other dress shoes that are ok to wear and aren’t ugly. I actually wear UGG boots and fuzzie sandals almost anywhere, but I have my Clark’s, Bernie Mev, etc. for work. You can get decent boots for a lot of labor jobs, too. Just got my son some Danner police boots that are comfortable.

@@alisonsneed3707 hi, you can find silicone toe spreaders on our Amazon store front, under the barefoot care tab. www.amazon.com/shop/exercisinghealth
My beef always was that if humans know that shoes causes bunions, why do we let shoe manufacturers get away with conning people?
A lot of people don't like the way their feet look and shoes give their feet an elegant, sexy or athletic look that many can't resist.
Um if we know that tobacco products do nothing except cause diseases why are they still legal? If we know that certain “foods” like soda and other garbage have zero nutritional value why are they allowed to be sold to consumers?
Try walking around a City without shoes on and see how that goes. That's why we wear shoes. You people are ridiculous
Well you can walk around barefoot if you want, it's actually not that uncommon here in NZ. I didn't really wear shoes til I was 13 and it was school uniform.
@@logansaxby7224 i don't think they mean walking barefoot, just make healthy shoes for the feet the standard
Thank you...

True. My great grandfather, my grandfather, my father and l have it. So genetics play part
Agree with you
When all us cousins get together we all have the same feet all have bunions
I am very happy to say that since I went barefoot several years ago, my feet are so much stronger and healthier, and there is no worry about me having a problem with bunions now
So do you bare foot everywhere?

Yeah I know some people that never wore tight fitting shoes or badly fitting shoes and they have bunions
My podiatrist told me bare feet is not good for bunions.

I've had this for about 17 years and for the last 9 I've worn a toe spreader just on my big toe and it has absolutely stopped the progression. I just use the ones women use to paint their toes with from the dollar stores.

Focusing on placing your feet straight helped me deal with back pain from my scoliosis.
Exactly. Don’t blame the shoes. I wore shoes on both feet, but only have a bunion on one.

Well said. Same for me.

Whenever I talk to physiotherapists or trainers about how I think my bunion is treatable with exercise they look at me funny. That attitude is probably why I never heard of ankle mobility being a factor. Many thanks for your clear and informative video. Subscribed.

My foot changed in a month from wearing Altras. (I don't have bunions, though). I used toe spreaders too.
@@cavemanjon6952 Possible grandma wore less forgiving shoes? Was on her feet way longer than you?
pure fiction, aka lies, prevarication, CRP, B.S.
Doing sth once a month can't make up for the shoes you wear every day.
Showing hollistic body understanding there makes me respect you a lot. Most people would just go through asanas by route and call it a day.
@@MrCmon113 it does however make up for the lack of awareness in your biodynamics that cause people to make improper adjustments. Yoga is about sensing and conditioning, not physical therapy.

I like your videos. They're informative but not boring! And your baby is adorable.
i would love a video on footwear options that are best for people with bunions! i am actively working on correcting my bunions and am slowly trying to shift into barefoot shoes. i worry about going too far too fast with that and irritating/worsening my bunions and foot pain. thank you for providing this content! so thankful
This video was extremely insightful. Better than any podiatrist I have ever been to. I don’t like podiatrists typically as they seem to just be salespeople pushing orthotics and not actually interested/capable of providing actual treatment
I feel the same.. actually feel the same about most medical advisers.. such a waste of time!!
First thing I will is say is that my consultance was FREE
@@beelzebootthecanadiandevil9600 cool, understood
Cute baby!

OMG I've had toe issues for 2 years and your description of bunions fits perfectly!
pls say me how??

My bunion kicked in and I used a bug toe spreader for 6 days and while sleeping.
Full of knowledge of health. I'm glad youtube suggest this to me and thank you for your efforts of making this video.
As long as socks have enough stretch. There are some socks that fit too tightly.
Would you share which brand?
What are they made of?
Where did you buy the
Love your video and very informative.
Did you not watch the video? He’s addressing your very question.

I have hearing loss and can't balance w/o holding on to something. Most people with hearing loss can't, but need to lessen our bunions.
i'll try that, hope it will cure my bunion but I blame shoes for this even though I never wore pointy or high heels, my shoes never fitted properly and never had the natural shape of the toes. I should sue all shoe manufacturers because they can make classy and comfortable shoes. I think they were designing them for a different type of feet which the majority of people do not have.

Since Covid staying at home has helped my feet they look way better and my bunion isn’t as protruding now 🤗. I have flat foot bunions. I wear Archies flip flops amazing.
What happens when you have to go back to work?
Good for you 🤞
You should probably get some orthotic shoes for work, or ask an orthotics salesman which brands are ok to get.
Thank you, colleague! Brilliant non-invasive advice!!! Keep going!
